A Bow Bridge near the Abbey, especially for WN, and the waterfall at Blickling Hole

Cheers Nellie. Mrs WN asks that you send it to her in an email and trusts you haven't copyrighted it yet as she has designs on it for a painting project.smile

We've nearly finished most of what we set out to do in the garden, housekeeping wise, after another couple of hours first thing these last 2 days so now we have some space to allow some things to breathe and grow, albeit it won't be until next year when we see the fruits of our labours. We'll probably put some pots down on the areas for the rest of this summer. Have been regulars at the recycling centre and need to go again tomorrow.

Another hot week in store for most by the sound of it. Take care folks.

We got home early this afternoon from a nice weekend at Ayr Craigie club site weather Friday and yesterday was good so we made good use of the Cadac also met up with an old work colleague yesterday who lives in Ayr so that was nice. Site very busy lots of kids as it’s the school holidays. Easy 30min tow home today and I finally managed to get the van and the Volvo washed they both had around 1200 miles of road dirt on them so not both sparkly clean and the van is back in it’s space on the drive where unfortunately it will stay for the next 4 weeks as we are busy with family commitments the next 3 weekends as we have relatives visiting from Canada will be nice to see them after 3 years. Hope everyone else has had a nice weekend

Recovering from a big local outdoor event that didn't end by 11pm as promised, the revellers were in full swing till 2am....I had forgotten how pleasant our summer evenings had been until last night. wink

Trying to sort the van for a short break and have booked another get away in September.

Forecasts of 34C so not much to pack for this coming trip...although it's extremely dry I'm glad we've had a proper summer and people have had good holidays down here.

Hope you have a good time with your Canadian visitors Francis and nice to see the photos from others who are away just now.

I saw the recent photos of Aysgarth Falls looking, well not looking like falls at all, is the water situation now better further north?

At last a day with no rain, so we’re busy silaging. Only mechanical breakdowns slowed us down. Fortunately we have very good neighbours and were able to borrow a machine (a rake for rowing up).

Tomorrow a contractor is coming with a specialist machine to get in our Wholecrop (barley and peas undersown with grass).

No drought here, and plenty of green grass.

Not had much of a sunny summer so far here, its been dry and warmish but not overly sunny frown most days cloudy and blowy, we've had it like that for months always windy.

Been busy making a mozzie screen for the PVCs big sliding door, all made but can't fit it into place as it to windy 😩 if it's the same tomorrow I think I'll get OH to turn the van round against the wind.

Had a nice cycle ride this afternoon, been awhile since we did that.

OH been busy cut the 2 big hedges and making more 3D printed brackets so far he has made 50 sets all been posted off to happy V-Liners who can now remove their sinks to clean the undersink. Another 30 sets on order so another couple of weeks before he's finished.

Good to hear folk getting away in their vans and having family visits.

Lovely to hear about all the out and about visits.  We went to Barnards Castle earlier on in the year.  I remember visiting Egglestone Abbey and Bowes Casle.... and also Low Force Waterfall which we really enjoyed.  We went on to High Force but decided not to stop as the car parking was an extra cost + a bit of a walk.

At present we are in Newton Abbot.  Today we have driven down to Bovisand, near Plymouth, overlooking Plymoth Sound... weather was great today...

Glad you had a good weekend away Francis. Hope you have a good family visit. And hope you are having a more restful evening brue. I am enjoying all the photos of the days out.

We took son and family's cat to the cattery first thing as they left for their holiday in the early hours. We then took ourselves out for a very enjoyable day out at Deene Hall and gardens. It is such a lovely place. It has been owned by the Brudenell family for centuries. One of them (The Earl of Cardigan) was of The Charge of the Light Brigade fame. We then fed daughter and family's cat, rabbit and guinea pig on the way home - families, don't you just love them!!

Will do, but it might be tomorrow as I have just read your post. Love to see the finished item though. I know nowt about copyright, so if Mrs MW wants to do that all I ask is a small percentage of the profits.😄

No photos of interest today, but we did visit a couple of industrial archaeology site, Gaunless Lead Smelt chimney and site, and the lead mine tips up on Eggleston Moor, where we had a decent walk. Then visited Eggleston Hall Gardens and Nursery on the way back to the site, which is full tonight.

Brue, Yorkshire is still very dry, all parts. We are expecting 29c next week, no rain forecast for all next week here in SY. We do have plenty of reservoirs, not all of them are very low. No mention of hosepipe ban.

Finally get some big jobs done 😀.

Friday we had garden help, can't find a photo of it before but after I'd started and filled the garden bin. Found the light and guttering for the 2nd time since moving in in April.... Garden help takes waste away thankfully, his transit van was full with what he cleared 😱.

In the house that jack built we weren't surprised by the frame around the waterbutt, nor the duct tape keeping guttering together, or that the diverted not being connected to the pipe leading to the waterbutt 🤐🤣🤣. Nor even the paving slabs under the growth - not sure what they are a supposed to be for??? Oh and he found the side fence damaged by another jasmine, brambles and other climbers, but since carpenter was here we had lots of choice of bits of wood so it's joined the house that jack built for now 🤔

That's the area, once I move pots, ready for the hard landscapers to realign and grout slabs to avoid the trip hazard along the back and side of the house. Then they'll tackle the veg patch at the front.

Friday the carpenter arrived to turn recess into shelved cupboard. Very pleased with the result on Saturday. Grandson enjoyed ' exploring' inside this morning before I put our loft stuff in there. Needs a tweak or 10 but I'll do that when it's cooler.

We have 2 lots of visitors from Essex tomorrow and Wednesday so just trying to get back to previous level of straightness.

Too many photos for one post, so it'll be over 2.

Good to read folks news and see photos - mine won't tempt you to visit 🤣🤣

Recess loft. Delighted I have a good stock of archive boxes, so pleased they decided to split the larger boxes down into smaller boxes as we staff acquired the discarded ones, so that will be part of the reshuffle/tweak, they're already in there empty 🤣🤣.

Christmas Dec's will be so much easier to get at and restore but sorting those will wait until they're next in use - I did have a bit of a sort out before they were returned to storage early in the new year.

Also managed to get all my bags of knitting wool, sewing materials and work box in there too. We have soooooo many suitcases that will need culling......

We are the same, some hawthorn bushes on our walk in a green lane look like they've been burnt, as do some of my plants.

Met a lady who I've spoken to a few times on a dog walk yesterday. She's recently been to the lakes with her daughter and family,  she said it never got above 20 and rained everyday they were there. Can't imagine it!

Was surprised when briefly chatting to son during a pop in visit this morning that they're running out of room to store grain - there's been some good yields despite the lack of moisture. He doesn't get involved much and less now as he has house and childcare duties as well as full-time job. He still sounds worse than I did at my worst with this cold/virus, thank you grandson, I still have very sore throat and catarrh 1st and last thing but achyness is passing, managed 2 days without ibuprofen 🤞. None of us testing positive, but his family did about 4 weeks ago, he said he's feeling like he expected to feel when positive,

B2. Hope you all feel better soon, I felt unwell for several weeks and wasted quite a few Covid tests! Looks like you have  been industrious with your new home, nice to gradually get it shipshape and make inroads into the garden.

Sounds like here B2 & TDA, parched but not totally yet, tinder dry wheatfield by us which I think will be cut soon (corn for the Dorset Down sheep etc  in winter.)

Visiting dogs now handed back, cat 😺 happy. Daughter had a good time at the Wickham festival, Show of Hands and all the favourites. It looked good on the photos and video clip.

Room looking good Bakers2.... it looks like a really useful space.  However, you've reminded me that, when we are back from our summer breaks, I'm going to need to book in multiple trips to the tip, of even hire a largish skip to try and get rid of some of the stuff we've acquired over the years.  The trouble we have with 'space' is.... the more we have, the more we fill!!!  Mind you, I do mainly blame our kids!  The amount of stuff we have 'belonging to them' doesn't bare thinking about!!  I'm going to have to have a 'bin or collect' session with each of them in turn.... 😀😀

B2,  I think you'll need a " Bump Stop " for the door ( in third Picture ) or you'll create a nice dent in that plasterboard with the door handle !!surprised

    Otherwise all looks good smile

It took a move to reduce loft contents and pevious years of 'returning' stuff to the children. Not so easy with one in NZ 😲 but lots has gone out that way over the years. Still have 2 boxes of son's stuff, not in there cos it wouldn't ever go! It's never convenient for him to take it and I'm too kind to take it to his to add to the unstored items already awaiting homes in their house that included the 4 boxes we gave him this time last year which are untouched in the garage. Remaining boxes have more precious items 😉. I still have a drawer under the bed full of daughters bits which would have gone by now, but we've been restricted by Covid and health. Hopefully it will happen but postage has gone through the roof in the 15 years she's been there!

If you sort out and do the offload to offspring charity shops etc it might be as economical, and less hassle, to have a licensed collector take it away. I know it was for us in expensive Essex no dirtying the car and the physical bit either.

ABM I don't think the door opens far enough to damage plaster but I will check, thank you.

Lovely visit from a friend from Essex travelling to Lincoln. My jaw aches now 😱. Arrived about 10 left about 1530 and we still could have gone on 🤣🤣🤣🤣. That's about the only real miss I have from Essex, catch up in person with friends and an unloading, for both sides 😉, chat. Very nice pub lunch too but too hot to do a dora or oher proper walk. Good job i took dora out before 7am in the cool. Hopefully they'll be more. Another Wednesday but that's a friend and family so will be different 😀.

Very warm today and HOT when the clouds let the sun through.

Took visiting dog to Crow Point today. Anne Cleeves based a couple of her novels on the place. Usually very quiet and mostly locals but busier today. People kayaking, boating, and two girls with life jackets on just floating and chatting. Dog just runs all the time, so cooled off in the water, me getting hot walking her, while others sunbathing but just perfect for dog. Lady watching asked,‘does she ever stop?’ No!  Sadly she only has one eye, I noticed her rubbing it, sand I think, no chances taken, time to go home.  Oh and yes, she won! Couldn’t stand the 5.30 wake up calls from the kitchen, so last night I moved into the spare room and she joined me, ‘laid in’ til 7.30. worth it. Not how our dog was ‘brought up’ years ago but ‘old dog new tricks etc’. Also she isn’t in her own surroundings with her own family. Seems very happy here though.

I do hope you feel better soon bakers2. I always think the hot weather makes you feel worse. OH always got a lot of chest infections when our granchildren were little, caught from their recurring colds and  coughs. I am glad that you had a good catch up with your friend from Essex. We finally managed to get our local son and daughter to take their belongings away to their own houses but still have quite a few boxes of youngest son's stuff in his old bedroom and all his Uni stuff in the loft (he is now 46 😁). He is promising to clear our loft next time he comes over from NI. I will believe it when I see it!. Goodness you have been busy in your new house. It must be very satisfying to tick the jobs off the list.

We are finally off duty with our animal and grandchildren caring duties as our daughter and family are home tomorrow and OH gets his car back, hopefully in one piece. We just have to fetch our son and DIL's cat from the cattery in 2 weeks. Their journey to Greece was trouble free and they are having a great time. I am so pleased for them as their 2020 holiday was cancelled and it took them nearly a year to get their money back after a lot of hassle.

A very hot day here and even hotter tomorrow 😳

It's funny about lofts and children. Both our sons have houses which are either the same size of bigger than ours and yet we still have some of their stuff here. In one loft I have a large suitcase full of Jaguar Racing F1 team clothing. (As a reminded Red Bull took over the Jaguar Team way back) I am pretty sure I could make a fortune from selling it online! But I am not allowed toundecided

As well as the two lofts, extension loft separate from the original we also have an over stairs storage space which is full of other sons University work from all the different degrees he has done. The problem is that new houses apparently don't have useable loft space, well that is their excuse. No doubt one day they could get the job of sorting out anyway!!!

We don’t have easily accessed lofts, but do have a Box Room. There’s paperwork and family stuff going back to nearly 100 years. We won’t be the ones to get rid of it. Just pass onto the next generation.

I’m a hoarder, married into a family of hoarders. It’s a big house, but full of stuff we probably don’t need. But you never know. It might come in useful.

i tend to box things up, put to one side and my OH reluctantly takes down the cellar, or up to the Box Room. Or one of the bedrooms.

As our place is a modern bungalow and there is a loft of sorts but no stuff in it too small and just cables across the space, seems to be over here that modern properties do not have big lofts and hence no storage space, friends of ours have and older house but not loft as their lounge/dining/kitchen ceiling is very high but they have an outside building and a large wooden type shed at the bottom of their field and part of that is a shelter for  their two donkeys  and at the moment trying to sort stuff our from her OH's  move from UK.

I usually have a sort out in our outside cellier and need to do some at the one end of OH's shed that will be fun I am fairly tidy OH not so good seems to be like his late father, that is a job for the winter to hot at present and 40C forecast for tomorrow roll on the weekend as it looks to get cooler and perhaps RAIN!!!
