I shudder at the thoughts of house moving to be honest. If we did, it would likely be our one and only move, so would need to get everything future proofed to make sure we hit every box, crossed every bridge. We have a lovely house and garden, albeit not in our favourite part of the country. But it has more upsides than downsides, and I certainly wouldn’t want to start again on what has been a near 40 year project. It would be a big downsize for us, both house and garden. Our luck is holding at the moment, each new neighbour has been just perfect, there’s enough to keep us amused and exercised locally, and the transport links are excellent for getting in all four directions. We avoid the town, ruined by our Council, but essential services are good, and it’s suddenly become a bit of a hotspot for incomers from elsewhere, so we take heart that others are seeing the good in the area as well.

Mind, I could be persuaded by a small cottage in Northumberland🤔😁

I think our only reason for moving would be to downsize. We like where we live which has everything we need. We do look but new housing in MK, even if we downsized from our current 4 bedroom house to a two bedroom, the price gap is so small it seems hardly worth the effort, although running costs would be less.

It would be a complete change of location for us. We have looked in past, Cornwall, gorgeous, but has issues health wise nowadays for us, plus you don’t get much for your money, unless you can do lots yourself. I do love North Yorks, but seriously expensive for anything we fancy, and that’s with a tiny garden and just the one car space. Northumberland ticks all the boxes, but perhaps even more inviting is just over Border into Scotland. It’s a bit of a conundrum. Nice house in a not so fashionable location, or make do and mend house in a gorgeous location🤔 We need a helicopter landing pad anywhere remote as well, just in case OH decides to throw in another health scare😲

The nice house does have a few steps up to it, which did make me stop and think, re future, you just never know. Plus we have a disabled teenage granddaughter in a wheelchair but she can just walk up the steps and hopefully always will be able to. We have seen some lovely houses in villages but, as now, we need to be on a regular bus route for the future. What you buy as you get older does take a lot more thought. We bought this one 36 years ago as it had good access to schools.

Had to smile, one estate agent showing us around said, ‘well it’s a nice straight staircase for the future, in case you need a stair lift’ ! I didn’t say anything, but felt my age.. and more.

Moving house - my advice think hard if it's necessary. Be prepared for stress and then some. Do your best to ensure its future proof, and consider your comprises very carefully. And once you finally have your offer accepted and you all exchange, have plenty of energy and lists. Oh and pay someone else to do as much as you possibly can........

Beautiful start to the day here but gone a little sour as sun's hiding and the wind is chilly. Expensive trip out for petrol, £1.62 and a new battery for car key. Expensive Friday too, OH managed to knock the WiFi thermostat into the dog water bowl 😱. Luckily our heating engineers came the following day with a replacement......

Nice to see a post from Cyberyacht, I hope you're feeling better?

Milliehull thanks I thought it had finished, we'll have to explore elsewhere on Friday whilst family work!

Right back to more sorting and boxing of bits I don't want removers too!

Diesel yesterday in Sainsbury’s near us £1.81!!  We decided we would wait although could be a bad decision perhaps?🤷🏻‍♀️Who knows!

Over the years there have been properties that turned the head but ther is no chance that we will move.

Its not what a new house might have but what it wouldn’t-the memories of raising three children, eight Grandchildren and thirty “looked after” children.

Just back from a great 4 days in Torbay, sea views from the site, great food and some retail therapy but, as always, we stop as we get to our view over the harbour that is home and think how lucky we are.

Another lovey sunny day here. We quickly went out to the shops this morning then the rest of the day has been cleaning up the garden I also managed to give the Volvo a clean. Currently sitting out on the deck with burgers cooking on the BBQ drinking a nice bottle of ale first bbq of the year hopefully many more to come. Sun still out and not a cloud in the sky not even cold I think we can say spring has sprung

Booked into Troutbeck Head for a longish weekend this coming week so hopefully I'll have more news about the Oddfellows for you Francis.

Everyone enjoy the sun everyone as I can guarantee it will pour it down in about 10 day's time as that is when the new garden furniture we bought today is being delivered!

If I lived where you live, I would think I had died and gone to heaven. I am sure it has its down sides, but I would cope😁 And as you say, you have the added memories. That’s the difference between a house, and a home.
Went spent 15 years, three months every year not far away, across the River. It felt like a second home, and we truly miss it, but the memories are still clear.👍

I agree David.... Personally, I can't see the benefit of moving house - I can't think I would want to downsize, and couldn't really afford to upside unless we moved area.  I'm so involved in things here, I don't think I would really like to move away.  Perhaps I might some day??  One of the reasons for having a caravan is that we can get away to wherever we want for a change....  It's just what suits us...

Goodness me, it has taken half an hour or more to get on here, I put a post on and everything stopped!

Thanks for the kind anniversary wishes.

Hm, house moves. This is our second home in our village, we bought it a while back when we decided to move locally and it was the only place for sale. We moved from a small cottage with a huge garden to a small sixties self build also with a huge garden and we know it's the garden that might defeat us in the end. However I keep a weather eye on neighbours who are much older than ourselves and watch how they manage, it sort of makes me want to keep going but the big BUT is health which is so unpredictable. Good luck to all those thinking about moving, it's a decision that's very personal to your circumstances.

Happy anniversary for yesterday, Brue.  Hope you had a lovely day....  I spent yesterday directing a 'Come and Sing' for choirs, so didn't get as far as CT...  I'll raise a glass in just a minute...   👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The price at Morrisons in West Kirby went up by £0.07 in a day Triky. Our local Tesco isn't showing prices any more. The staff said they couldn't keep up with it.

Had quite a busy day one way or another. Didn't intend to wash a car for starters but Mrs WN found hers nicely decorated by a passing Gull and yours truly got the privilege of cleaning it as she suddenly found some more clothes washing that needed her attention. They looked clean to me but who am I to argue?smile

Various other jobs that have been neglected whilst we were away got done. Garden beckons this week.

Sounds like having a cold worked in your favour, at least this time, Brue.

Second lovely day here, really hot in the house.

We have been working on our bathroom counter top, so DD came up to help me lift it into place.  I was then able to measure up and cut the bit that  joins it at right angles to the correct size,  and then make the cut out for the basin.

I now need to give it a final sanding before I finally join the 2 pieces, then OH can  give it a finishing coat of oil.

DD brought the 2 little ones with her, so while we dealt with the counter top, OH gave them lunch.   The kitchen floor was a disaster area  under Nathan's chair afterwards!!

Tomorrow, OH has to be at the hospital for 8.10am for her cataract pre op assessment, so it will be early to bed tonight.

Yes petrol prices have recached £1.79 up here but what is strange is that both the normally cheap supermarkets now have the same price as shell/BP?

Last week I drove to Consett on the way up in the morning it £1.69, on the way back six hours later it was £1.79.

Luckily I filled up about three ago when this all kicked off and both cars still have well over half a tank (3/4 on the tow car) but I'll need diesel for towing later on this week. But is it worth filling up now before it goes up again or wait?

Belated anniversary wishes, brue. Glad that you are feeling better.

It seems this good weather has at last caught up with you, WN. Good to read that you've cleaned the car!😁

Another couple of fine days up here too, but cooler today than yesterday. We've got plenty of walking in, yesterday along the coast, visiting caves and a castle. Today just around the adjacent country park. Still plenty of Snowdrops about, but nearly finished, Daffodils and Squills in bloom and a few of the Rhododendrons, and the odd Camellia, in flower too.  The site is still only about 1/3rd full, and nearly half of those are on seasonal pitches and most are unoccupied it appears. There have been two of the smallest camping units we have ever seen on a CC site here yesterday,  GoPod caravan towed by a Fiat 500 and a converted Peugeot Rifter.

And of course being “across the river you have a better view!

Yes, there are downsides but it’s all too easy to focus on what you have not got, as in a different house, and not what you have a home with a lifetime of memories and one that has been moulded to your likes and preferences all those years.

But, as you say, the location is not at all bad!

Seeing the way prices have shot up, it was a good move to fill up at £1.46 when returning from our last trip. Covid has slowed our next departure a bit, particularly now that OH has today tested positive (BOGOF). My temperature is back to a more normal level but the cold/cough symptoms persist. Getting a bit fed up with it now but it's five star luxury compared to a cellar in Mariupol.

Take a day trip to sunny Lee on the Sea, was beautiful out this morning and very few folk about, you could have a bacon butty at the shack or a sausage sannie, having second thoughts about motoring down to Spain weather much better here just now.

Moving here was our fourth move since we were married, over 50 years ago, how time flies, cant see us moving again, we down sized when we came here but only marginally as the Gkids used to come for sleepovers quite a lot so really needed extra bedroom and second shower room, teenagers now so dont need use quite so much except when they need a lift somewhere. Property prices are up some 80 pct since we moved here 11 years ago

Cant actually see the sea, but beach is only 10 mins walk 5 mins cycle, ferry terminal 30 mins, good selection of supermarkets within easy reach, and of course it is much warmer than Aberdeen, oh! and most importantly we have Rooksbury park 40 mins away laughing

embarassed very belated congratulations to the brue's on your wedding anniversary. My only excuse, you read digest and login, by the time the latter happens you've forgotten bits you wanted to comment on. And of course if you want to change pages while your posting you loose your text!

Good to read Cyberyacht has returned to normal temperature but some symptoms persist. Wish your OH a swift recovery. It seems our younger NZ granddaughter, 5,  may have it but is testing negative. She's quite poorly and vomiting, tonsils are very large now too. Only telephone consultation there too! Cases really rising there, 50,000 school age alone yesterday!

Tricky Auto I hope you had as good as possible R&R? I forgot to add the 0.9p on petrol price. Good news it's still 1.629and 172.9 at our Tesco today.

Beautiful weather here and the wind has dropped. And even if it hasn't as Cyberyacht says we're so much better off than others.

Dry and some sunshine here but a very strong south easterly wind and looks the same all week although getting warmer my plan for cutting back some plants have been scuppered as a fully exposed spot so cuttings would have gone everywhere so other chores being done a bit more washing and that dried very quickly, as I have had ear problems on the right side not keen being out in this wind so have been wearing a lightweight woolly hat even though it is spring.

Still awaiting large parcel delivery today.

    Take care folks.

I did that as well. Trouble is also had to fill up after last weeks trip to Baltic Wharf  and Cirencester, which cost £99.94😱 Although it would have been even more, if we were still towing. I did consider waiting until after the Chancellors spring statement, but as the MH is in storage it was easier to do it before we put it away. Plus of course, it may well go up before he announces his 5p cut.
