I looked in at 4am, horrible cold, unable to breath so had to get up and mooch around. No server errors at that unholy hour. wink

Hope you're enjoying some sunshine TG. We've had torrential rain through the night, it's sunny now with 40mph winds later.

Good to hear you've made progress with your house sale Debsc.

Hope those with Covid in their families keep safe and well. At such an early hour today I ordered another test kit and switched on itv's "relaxed" channel and watched sheep and wildlife on a river, the scenery looked very much like the levels round here. Didn't help much, but I'm grateful to have had two cold free years, couldn't escape much longer, my luck has run out! wink

WN We loved Hardwick Hall when we visited with friends some years ago. Also liked the ruins. I am also a great admirer of Bess.

Brue sorry to hear that you have a bad cold. Hope you soon feel better.

TG Glad to hear that you have some sun and warmth.

Bakers2 You sound as though you have everything organised. Not too long now.

The sun is out here at the moment but I have a feeling not for long.

"Just heard, via our daughter, that our son's 2 children now have Covid, contracted at school presumably as they have not been anywhere else recently."

share your frustration KJeIIN, we should have been spending a weekend at daughters in EG, but they have all now proved positive, she is a teacher at a very large school in Sutton and  her partner works from home and has very little contact with others aspart from taking Gdaughter to school, so it is def schools which are the main spreaders i feel.

This would have been our last meet up before we hopefully head off to Spain soak up some some, but feeling a little bit guilty and apprehensive with all that is going on in the world but hopefully things will not escalate into another world war.

OH was just reading on BBC news that if you have a cold, especially a bad one, it is very likely you actually have Covid.

Little Nathan has had a cold for about 3 weeks and several children at nursery have been off with Covid, both in his room and Callum's room, so quite possibly Nathan has been the one spreading it while Callum has been getting the blame.

Both SIL and DIL are teachers, SIL has managed to stay clear of Covid but DIL had it back in November, though nobody else in the family succumbed. A few other teachers and pupils at her school were affected, so certainly schools, and nurseries, are a large part of the problem at the moment.

Just done my day 8 LFT......still positive.  Callum was also still testing positive yesterday after 9 days.

Having taken our caravan for service last week, it is still sitting at the dealer as we are unable to go over to fetch it home yet.

Apparently, after 10 days we are allowed out again even if we continue to test positive, as we are unlikely to still be infectious/contagious.........is that right?

Our EG mob have had Covid 3 times now despite being fully vaccinated, fortunately not very ill just sore throat and eyes.

quite a stunning day today with a great cloud formation over the IOW, found lots of painted oyster shells this morning, not quite sure why, my first thought was something to do with Ukranian flag but not sure where the green fits in.

We both keep testing Kj. frown Our daughter was three days into her Covid session before the test became positive with a very feint line. The viral effects have lasted several weeks, mainly her memory and speed of thought, she's ususally very lively but has slowed up.

I don't know about what you can and can't do, are the rules different in Scotland? I suspect easing of advice has helped to increase the numbers getting it.

Our daughter and family had covid, one after the other, the test always showed negative for a few days after the symptoms started before turning to positive.

OH has just given me praise (very rare), the gas and electric bill for Feb was half that of Jan. I know Feb was a bit warmer and shorter. I am not tight but I hate giving money to utility companies and shareholders. We usually have the heating at 17 during the day and 19 in the evening, when we close the living room door. Last month I switched the thermostat down if we went out and if we were busy during the day, also doing other small economy things with the electric. It did make a difference and now has become a bit of a challenge.

We went to view a house today, we thought we might like it but weren’t too excited by it. Just as well, it wasn’t for us. Other viewers left as we arrived and more arrived as we left. It looked nice in the photos but they were deceptive. I did a clean and tidy before viewers came to ours. Clearly some aren’t so bothered, although making the beds and doing all last nights washing up might help, let alone giving it just a bit of a tidy, I’m sure it was bigger than it looked.

Oh DEBSC I know where you're coming from, we didn't see many that hadn't made an effort but I remember one that started at the front porch. Cobwebby and unkempt, into the hall with very old paint splashes on the floor. OH asked should we remove our shoes, I shot him a look as I felt they were cleaner than the floor! It was September and the hearth was covered in candle wax and the grate full of cold ashes. It didn't get any better..... 1st viewing with that agent and he asked if it was what we were looking for, house wise yes said I but not in that state at that sort of price. Poor guy he understood where we were coming from!

That said I'm spring cleaning our conservatory I don't want to be found wanting on the cleaning front. I'm less and less impressed with our cleaner sealed.  She would have gone a while back but seemed mean with our move imminent, as it was before Christmas! She does have a hard life similar to one of the soaps from what I gather.

Rest break over, time to get on and ice little buns and finish conservatory. We can't all be sunbathing Tammygirl - jealous moi? Actually conservatory is beautifully warm and sun filled but clouds gathering so washing needs to come in too.

Hope the poorly ones are feeling better and those celebrating recently are enjoying themselves.

I was being kind Bakers. One bedroom was so full of stuff it was really hard to see how big it was. OH said, ‘look their shower cubical is the same as ours’, it was, but ours is minus the black grime. All of this was added to by the aroma of three big dogs and their very smelly beds.

Sorry to read the Covid related posts.  The number of cases in our local schools have gone up recently, but I guess the good thing is that cases appear to be relatively mild.   Keep safe everyone.

Yes, or rather it is or rather was down here, also if you get two negatives tests for two days running after day 5 I seem to recall (but check) you can leave as soon as that happens and before the 10 days are up.

When we all had it, some of the family had the two negatives before the10 days while others were testing positive after the ten days. Some had no symptoms what so ever while others just had minor colds symptoms which were completely masked by taking cold relief. No big deal really - luckily.

DEBSC and Bakers2 I know where you are coming from. Some years ago when our daughter was house hunting in this area I went with her as she was single at the time and we saw some 'beauties' (not). At one house the owner spent ages complaining about the neighbour and when she opened the garage door it was crammed with stuff and said most of it would go when she moved at which our daughter (usually very quiet) said she would expect it ALL to go. Also when we were house hunting before we moved to our present house many years ago we looked at what should have been a very nice house but it was a complete mess - beds unmade, piles of washing in the kitchen, dirty towels on the bathroom floor and the crowning glory was a child's potty in the middle of the living room floor 😱

    Had an interesting day.

Rang around a few places locally to see if anyone had a calor lite propane cylinder and luckily someone did but we had to drive out and pick it up immediately as they wouldn't save it, even refusing payment until I was there. Anyway off we went. Fine. Start the day again.

Mrs WN did some washing until the rain stopped, we had a shower and then we had lunch. After lunch we went for a walk locally for a couple of hours.Hopefully a nice photo of local bird life on reservoirs. I then needed to do some jobs outside the caravan and tried to attach the piping to the calor. Gas leaking so I needed a new pipe. 4.30 pm!! Robinsons on the other side of town had one so we hopped in the car and made it just in time One of the new pipes, non rubber so it was more expensive!

Anyway needs must so off home. Attached to gas bottle, still leaking!!! Never happened in 30 years of caravanning. So Mrs WN tried it. Still leaking so we think we have a duff bottle as it can't be the piping and we have a few years experience in putting this together. So, off to the nearest shop for microwavable meal.yellsmile We are off site tomorrow so can't return the bottle here. Will have to call at home to pick up our butane stuff before heading to the site on the Wirral.

Hope all with Covid improving. It's still around. Not many with masks on locally

Millie, the ruins had scaffolding around it so no having a mooch.

Glad you got sorted at Pebbly Barn Farm K, I don’t think you will be disappointed.

We have used a few round Ludlow/ Church Stretton area. Nice one, but didn’t have HS when we were last there is Hucks Barn Farm. Stunning location, and a doable walk into Ludlow. Bit pricey for what you got, but on edge of Mortimer Forest. Another nice one with HS and a facility block is Upper Farm at Gretton, which is off the road between Church Stretton and Much Wenlock. Very nice, has a small private site alongside for seasonal vans. I think at the time we visited each CL pitch had a tap and waste drain. Showers you paid a small fee to use, but they were spotless, very plush. https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/certificated-locations/england/shropshire/church-stretton/upper-farm/

We have usually given Gilberries a swerve, but I think we have used Castle Hill Farm at Leebotwood. I will take a look and get back to you👍

Yes, we have been to Castle Hill Farm. Would have been more than 20 years ago I think🤣Might to too far North for you, closer to Shrewsbury than Ludlow, and looks as though it is still all grass. A grand old fashioned CL though, very nice.

Bad luck on the gas bottle WN. We had similar a few years ago. OH just took it into our local BOC outlet and they swapped it for us. Don’t suppose you will be close, Shepcote Lane in Sheffield.

I don't think that both Hucks Barn and Cast!e Hill Fm would be really suitable for Kjell with the size of his caravan and having to tow over grass to get onto the H/S pitches. A CL that might suit is Portway at Olerton. The pitches aren't huge and he would probably need the mover to get set up but the site is easy to get to, with good access off the road and is midway between Ludlow and Leominster but off the main road.

Bad luck with your gas bottle, WN. Have A safe tow over to The Wirral tomorrow. Nice photo of the Mandarins on the rezza!

After rain yesterday evening, and some smerr early this morning we have a a fine dry day, although a bit cloudy at times with a cool breeze. More coastal walks today, this time from Gullane, over the Genre and back along the beach before lunch and to the Point this afternoon.

Sorry to hear of those with families who have caught Covid and that's stopped ones meeting up. Hope that all recover soon and you can all meet up once again.

KJ, the one Nellie suggests is good. The one we stayed at in the area was Middleton Farm, Yarpole. Fully serviced H/S pitches. Quiet. Not really a farm, and no long potholed farm road to negotiate either, and accessible for Croft Castle. A few miles north of Leominster. The approach to the village from the turn off (opposite the entrance to Croft Castle (NT) is a tight squeeze in places for about 400 yards but opens out and C.L. at top end of village. Nice people that run it. Shop and pub in village.

We looked at Middleton Farm, it sounded good, keeping it in reserve, but have meantime sent an e mail to The Bury, which is a bit further  north, no reply as yet.

However your mention of a "tight squeeze" on the access to Middleton is  a bit concerning!   I will need to take a closer look.  We are approaching 13m total length when hitched, though we do not have one of those newer "fat caravans" , thankfully.

A little north of Ludlow is also fine.  EHU, hardstanding and decent access are the main requirements, for everything else we are self sufficient.  Serviced is good, but certainly not essential.

OH was commenting on some of the prices she is seeing for those CLs that have invested in toilets and showers!   As we do not need them, though might use their toilet just as it is there, we are disinclined to pay more than £20 per night for a site with facilities we do not need.

Will check out Portway, Nellie, thanks.

Sorted!    Just heard back from The Bury, which  is not that far from Portway, so now booked in there for 5 nights.

Not far off the road, wide entrance to nice straight paved farm road, serviced hardstandings, £20 per night.  Reviews are very  good too.

Only one more site to book now, hoping to secure a pitch on our usual site  near Broughton to visit our friends in Ruthin.  Then we are booked on Spital Caravans in Kendal for 3 nights  to break the homeward journey.

I can feel OH's next query approaching........"where shall we go in September/October?"

A lot of rain here in the last 48 hours 28mm yesterday and so far today 14.9mm so no chores outside. Thought I could some curtains we had to make some new ones for the caravan as we do not like them but after checking measurements etc not enough material so have ironed the caravan ones with a clean pillowcase over them as odd material so they look better and will do for our holiday in Cornwall and will get some new material etc when over there, so the new hooks and sliders will be put away until we come back in May, got some other material so making 2 new cushion covers for the two caravan cushions again do not like the original ones who ever designs the curtains and cushions for caravans have a different idea to ours but we are all different.

Another door and frame to start painting tomorrow

All sites now booked.......and OH IS now asking about September/October.

Out of the 8 sites she has booked, one is CCC, one large commercial, two small commercials, and 4 CLs.   Our most expensive, at York, will be £27 per night, the least expensive, a CL, will be £15 per night, so not too bad on average for a June/July tour.  All hardstandings, and the majority are serviced, so I am happy.

Off now to see the birthday boy in his garden.......or maybe in our car if the weather does not improve very soon!

We had lunch at home after driving there from the Peak District in order to pick up our butane gas and fitments. MiL glad of a good chatter. We thought the journey might be more adventurous than it turned out although the gusts of wind coming from the south didn't help as we were travelling east to west most of the time.

The Wirral CP site is almost full. This might be our once a year visit but we may squeeze another in towards the end of the touring season on this site in late October/ early November.

    Hope everyone enjoying their weekend.

Still got an annoying cold, OH volunteering in the kitchen this evening. We're booked to go away soon but can't find much enthusiasm for it, glad to hear others have got some get up and go!

More changes of neighbour, one lot moving over the next few days. They replace "Mr Weed Sprayer" an individual who sorted out anything that grew with biological warfare, we were glad to see his departure, mother nature will be pleased too. Another set of neighbours who came out from central London are now going back, a failed move to the country.

Hope you find some new fabric for your van RedKite when you do your trip over here, we've been lucky with our present van, nothing garish and plain cream curtains.

Well I await the creation from the kitchen and hope I get a decent sleep tonight, two nights awake have been unpleasant! Have been watching Crufts as a diversion.
