We are due to head down to Chester at the end of next week but we are seriously considering postponing it and going in November instead if the fuel issue has settled down. Is it bad down that way too?

Francis, I think it's hit and miss everywhere at the moment. If necessary you could always nip across to Shell Oil Refinery, a stones throw away from the Chester site and ask them for some.laughing

We're due to head to Norfolk at the end of next week (heard you were cominglaughinglaughing) and will carry on with our plans. Just won't leave filling up too late if I see one that's open.

Re flu vaccination. We've had a newsletter from our surgery informing us that those 70 and above will be done in house while all others will have to go elsewhere. So OH gets done there, I will have to wait to see where elsewhere is laughing

Booster dose is still to be worked out but I think it will be at the vaccination centre where we got our other two.

As we are not due home for another month yet no need to worry about them. Will need to phone surgery though to let them know.

We are currently in Burgos. We gave up the idea of going across the north coast of Spain after a 250+ mile drive to find all the sites in that area had closed up a month earlyyell having phoned round a number of sites and either got no answer or to be told we're closed, we turned round and headed back along the coast the way we had come. Finally found a site that was happy for us to stop the night. Shame really but its a long way to Santiago to then find more sites closed and you still have to get back. Always another time, the Picos and the coast looked stunning as we came back this morning, the clouds had cleared and the sun was out.

Still debating where to go next, probably Aranjuez, not sure beyond that. Could be the Costas or it might be Cordoba, will sleep on it.

Hope the fuel situation eases soon and those away or waiting to go away can get back to having a good time.

Yesterday was a bit of a wash out, to say the least, but dogs are dogs and have to be walked so we did venture down to the lookout point on Rhossili Head in a howling gale and driving rain - not really much to look out on! Luckily there is a very convenient footpath right outside the cottage so we can at least walk there.

Today was completely different, bright, dry and warm sunshine. We walked a lovely stretch of the coastal path from Port Eynon to Horton and on towards Oxwich. Quite a few folk out at Port Eynon beach including one brave windsurfer and then a guy turned up in a wetsuit, did a very impressive handstand on the beach and then proceeded to swim out to sea,  never to be seen (by us anyway!) again.

    Forecast looks "interesting" for tomorrow.

Called into the garden centre for some autumn bedding plants for front pots, stayed for a coffee. Been sorting out cupboards etc, plenty to take to the charity shop. Lived in our house for 35 years but we keep talking about moving. Decided to make a start. Difficult though, we want to make sure it’s the right property but, around here, if a suitable one does go on the market it’s sold within a few days. So some local estate agents don’t want any viewings if yours isn’t under offer or sold. Don’t want to sell ours and then can’t find something we like, as they seem few and far between. Chicken and egg situation. Used to be much easier than this. So many people trying to move here at present. Think we will have to put ours on the market and then just hope to be lucky for a property we like to become available at the right time. Not looking forward to it all though.

We are in the same position as you DEBSC.  OH doesn’t want to move though so just an added problem.  We have discussed it so much.  I want to be nearer family but we can’t afford Hertfordshire where they are and not too sure of other areas close by.  As you say do we sell and hope to find something?  That sounds as if we could end up somewhere we don’t really want to be, or like, and at 70 something that doesn’t appeal.  Decisions, decisions.   What also hasn’t helped is that whilst talking to a couple (our age) out for a walk recently who moved to this area 2 years ago, they are selling up next year as they have such awful neighbours!!  Our neighbours are lovely.

Yes Heddlo, pretty much the same boat. Our discussion has been going round this for 18 months now. OH vetos almost anything that isn’t a new build, which I’m not keen on - small overlooked gardens. If we hated our house it would be easier, we just need a few different things now. We definitely won’t be moving out until we find something else as prices are rising too fast. Local friend put hers up for sale last Friday, quite a high price we thought, three potential buyers by today and one has offered £10,000 more than the asking price! It’s all getting ridiculous here. I feel so sorry for those trying to get on the ladder.

A fine sunny and successful day for us. Did the weekly wash before we left Wadebridge, and had an easy, if slow tow due to lots of tractors on the roads, down to our latest CL near Redruth. Rapid set up and washing out before lunch, walk after and clothes dry by the time we got back. Tried to book Flu jab done in Redruth but without success, however then phoned St. Clare's in Penzance, and got appointments to get them done 30 mins after our C19 Boosters.

hope that you manage to sort out Flyte's eye problem, Nellie.

Thanks, David. His eye seems to be a good bit better, especially when we're out and about, although it is still a little milky and has a bit of discharge at times. Just have to keep a watch on it as his drops are just about finished.

With six dogs, chickens, ducks and ferrets, not to mention his lovely wife, he’s currently wondering how he fitted work in. New car is on drive, kitchen finished, I think next thing is possibly a MH.
Driving a lorry, even for a lot of money doesn’t have the same thrill as a Fire Engine on blues at full throttle! 😂

My feelings are that some who rushed to the sea and rural areas might be missing city life by next year, so you might find things calm down later. Good luck to you and Debsc with your plans! Hope Bakers2 is doing well too and the family gathering goes well with a well behaved grandson!?

A wet and windy day here. Waiting to hear from my sister and BIL if they'll be calling in tomorrow. They're going to Torbay for a short break but the fuel situation is causing problems. Although I've seen my sister in her garden earlier on she hasn't managed to see us at home for 20 months and it's a birthday celebration this week.

All quiet on the visitor front this morning so taking a quick break. We thought fuel might hold people back this week but it hasn't, plus we've had locals and walkers dropping in.

Hope the holidays are going well, near and far! smile

It's rather bracing here! We had a wander into Wells yesterday in bright sunshine but it was quite windy. It is still quite busy but we found a nice place to have a light lunch. We then walked back to the caravan and then late afternoon when the wind and down a little we had walk out along the coastal path. It wasn't quite where we wanted to be (we lost our bearings somewhat!) but it was a very pleasant early evening walk. We drove to Cromer today in miserable weather. We had a wander along the front and watched some brave surfers and went to the Lifeboat cafe for lunch where there was a group of fisherman having a coffee and a chat. I hope the weather is a better tomorrow. We dont want to travel too far because of the fuel situation. We past a few garages today some had 'no fuel' notices and others had a queue.

What first class service you have had JVB. Nice to get your OH out for a bit as well.

0ne of my cousins has just messaged me to remind me that another of our cousins (there are quite a few of us!) has a big birthday next week so I must get age appropriate card tomorrow.

A mainly wet day here. After filling up with diesel at Morrisons, no queue, had a wander around a short part of the Great Flat Lode Trail past Old Cook's Kitchen Mine in Camborne. Drive down to Portreath and up to Teidy Country Park where we had another walk after lunch in the car. Stopped off to view the remains of the 3 engine  houses at Wheal Peevor on the way back to the site.

Strolled round to my local pharmacy to collect the carrier bag's worth of meds embarassed for the next month and saw an advert on the counter for " book your Flu Jab HERE! " so I did. It took all of five minutes and t'will be done in three weeks time ~~ no problems at all.

Hope everybody else, Members, ex-members, families and friends are well along the road to a 'protected winter' . Take care but still have fun  smile

Our flu jabs are due next Saturday. Called into the surgery whilst passing a couple of days ago and very easily and quickly booked an appointment for their forthcoming flu jab clinic. There's a sign in the surgery asking people to get their jabs in the surgery and not elsewhere. It appears that they get a payment from the NHS for each jab they give. They don't get this if a pharmacy is used instead. The income helps the surgery to pay for additional staffing from doctors down.

I don’t post on here when we are away - despite remote cameras all around and outside the house and OHs little robot who goes to the front door to check how much post every morning, he is in to technology, unlike me, I’m still concerned someone will pick up that we are away. How do others on here feel about leaving their homes for long periods? Anyway to catch up now on ‘what are you all up to’ we are recently back from a great break at Stratford Upon Avon. Trips around the Cotswolds, NT visits, Compton Verney, which was lovely. Meals out, friends and family at theirs and ours for bbqs. Through FB we even met up with a school chum and her husband that I haven’t seen for 55 years! Now more meetings planned and a friendship rekindled, so the internet can be good. We went to Moreton show and Stratford Food Festival. We tried to keep a distance and wore our masks etc. however, we were a little concerned about the number of people at the show, but all outside. Meeting up with friends was what we needed after so long, felt so much better for it, almost made up for so long not being able to see them.  Somehow it was one of the best holidays, almost normal and we just appreciated doing ‘normal’ things so much more.

Brue, I'm thinking ( dangerous I know !)  that perhaps the sudden drop in temperature has caught a lot of folk out. I was still wearing short sleeves until yesterday. It seemed to be ( atishoo) ok until tea-time after I got ( 'choo ) back from pharmacy. sniffle sniffle. Now I'm trying to get the washing done on the lowest setting ~~ four sneezes per load !

I suppose if you want to enjoy our hobby you have to be prepared to take the risk in being away from home? For a number of years after we retired we went away for 6/8 weeks to Europe twice a year in addition to trips in the UK. Our record was 116 nights in one year but I know there are people on this forum who spend twice as long away in their vans. You just have to secure your property as best you can. Ask neighbours to keep and eye and leave them your telephone number so they can contact you if they see anything untoward. We are lucky that both our sons live or work in MK so they drop in at regular intervals whilst we are away.

At least it isn’t me that’s given it to you AB. I have decided to hunker down, do next to nothing and sniffle this one out. Weather is lovely here, sunny, but cool. I should be gardening but just don’t have the energy.🥱

Just catching up with Tourist of the Year, Wally the Walrus. He’s in Iceland now, so heading towards home😁

We always enjoy the industrial heritage when in Cornwall. It must have been a horrible landscape when the mines were going full chat. Enjoyed a visit down the Levant Mine a few years ago, and Geevor. Some great walking around there, and along to Botallack. Botallack Manor House was the original Nampara in the 1970’s Poldark series. It still looks the same....

Debsc, I expect people make a variety of security arrangements when going away. Since we were burgled while we slept just after moving house a few years back OH has never really had a good nights sleep so we make efforts about security in general but I'm not giving details on here! wink

Mrs WNs paternal great grandfather was a tin miner from Cornwall but when they started to fold he headed north to the coal mines. Adds a bit of poignancy to the visits when we're down that way.

Sounds like you had a good fillip DEBSC. We don't tend to worry too much when we go away. The Mother-in-Law lives with us and looks after the place well. If there are problems she'll ring us or get one of the very helpful neighbours to sort it out. It helps that we live in a cul-de-sac so there isn't too much foot traffic or strangers.

Fine but breezy day for a change this week so catching up with a few cleaning jobs.I arranged to have a blood test done today before we embarked on our recent trip. They were able to fit one in for today as the 1st.October fell on a Friday so that week was available. However the Extracting Contractor didn't have an appointment in her little black book for me. Typical. Anyway she was very nice and took the necessary samples. She handed back the form that I didn't know about asking for a Urine sample. Nobody at the surgery told me there was one needed!yell Talk about not taking the proverbial.smile

I've had quite a few admin problems with the NHS recently. When you get to see someone they are usually great but boy do they make seeing them hard work.

Maybe I worry too much. We also live in a cul de sac but walk way through to the park. OH has allsorts  rigged up, and next door have our phone number. Sister in law pops in once a week to move the post. Neighbour right opposite keeps an eye. It’s more that I don’t post anywhere online when we are away, just in case. OH has just rejected considering a property because burglar alarms and security everywhere, then sure enough viewed from outside and house backs onto a busy road with a lay-by right behind it, would be an easy hop over the fence, another one we won’t be buying.
