I suppose the fuel shortage will work out the same as toilet rolls. When everyone has more than enough there will be a plentiful supply? I always fill the motorhome up after every trip so I always start with a full tank, last did that a week ago. Must check the car which has probably got more than half a tank but we tend to do far fewer miles in the car. It seems when ever the official advice is not to do something the public do the opposite?  The supply of lorry drivers is not going to be resolved anytime soon so I expect we will have to put up with the situation for a while longer yet.

The problem i have and others i suspect ,is going to be finding fuel for our car, i have to take OH to Stevenage Hospital  tomorrow ,our car is low on fuel, as there has been no need to use it since our last tow back from FM ,what can i now do? OH needs me around because of her falls,so i cannot spend a long time today looking for fuel

Ps  I think this will get more people to buy alternative fuelled vehicles (conspiricy theory)wink

The shortage of HGV drivers it seems is in many countries not just the UK  and has not just happened  ,as some would like us to believe,

Before venturing out for fuel check fuel stations in your area on google maps. It shows a few around me as closed.

Sitting in the sunshine having done all my chores smile washing all done and almost dry, van cleaned inside and once again tidy.

We are moving on tomorrow going to give the north Spanish coast a try. The forecast is mixed but they have been wrong so many times over the last few weeks we are going to chance it.

Millie, sorry to hear of your TIA, I know how scary they are. Good that your OH took you to A&E straight away, now you are in the system you will get the correct treatment.

NTH, sorry to hear Flyte is having problems with his eyes, hope they get better soon.

The fuel situation isn't good is it. I remember being over here when there was a strike on once. It was worrying as we were on our way home and was concerned we might not get diesel. As it turned out we did. Hope it gets sorted before we return, we can fill up at Calais but will need another one before getting home. That's not until the end of October so I'm sure it will be better by then.

Just a thought could you not take your OH with you when you go in search of fuel, just to be on the safe side?

Got the van washed and cleaned out and back on it’s space on the drive not away next weekend but heading down to Chester for 10 days in a couple of weeks so looking forward to that. Busy week ahead this week then a family christening next weekend which should be good looking forward to that will be nice to catch up with family again.

Had a very relaxing day up to now.

This morning we drove the short distance to Much Wenlock and visited the Priory. I had a good wander around whilst Mrs WN decided to do a drawing . Lovely sunshine this morning. We came back to the caravan for lunch and then visited Benthall NT which is walkable from the C.L. The Comma butterfly was taken in their vegetable garden and the little hut was there as well. The sun has now disappeared but still dry.

Not sure what we'll do for diesel. I still have over half a tank left after yesterday's drive and I'll have enough to get me home to North Wales. If I see anywhere tomorrow in Ironbridge I'll top it up. As DK said it should all settle down soon. Bit worrying for those far away from home.

Much Wenlock is very interesting, I like the topiary. There was a huge Walnut tree in the garden last time we were there. Needless to say, we came home nut laden😁

Gardening day for me, I am tackling a big mixed hedge. OH is out on his bike somewhere hilly, possibly half way to Manchester, but I have him tracked😂 Then cooking Sunday dinner for us all later. Pooch is asleep. Until his tum nudges him at 5pm🤣

Meant to mention that The Wenlock Olympic Games were being staged this weekend.laughing

Of course those in the know realise that these are in fact the forerunner of the slightly larger Olympic Games.

It's been a day of two halves,  weather wise for us today. This morning we set off from the village to walk over Rhossili Down in cloudy but warm and dry conditions. I popped into the church where there is a memorial to Edgar Evans, a member of Captain Scott's ill fated trip to the South Pole who was born just up the road (we actually walked past a rather swish looking cottage bearing a plaque claiming his birthplace,  but I'm guessing a considerable amount has been spent doing it up into a good looking holiday home.

We made it to the trig point at the top of the downs where there are spectacular views along the whole of the bay and you can see why you have to walk across to Worms Head at specified times, it gets completely cut off at high tide. Minutes after I took those pictures the mist and drizzle rolled in and the views were lost. frown

But after lunch the sun made an appearance (hooray! smile) so we took the dogs down to the beach for a romp and a close up view of the wreck of the Helvetia, a prominent feature on the beach here.

Forecast for the next couple of days is not so good, could be searching for a dog friendly pub to spend a couple of hours tomorrow! wink

Wherenext - if you should spot this - you're probably familiar with this area but I remember in the past you've asked for self catering suggestions. This farmhouse would be ideal for you as it's got a down stairs bedroom with en suite wet room which I think you look for for MiL? (Apologies if not). 3 more bedrooms upstairs with fabulous views and a nice south facing garden too. Happy to provide details, if you're interested, just drop me an email. smile

RE - The diesel situation I put £40 in the Volvo on Thursday afternoon but after seeing the news on Friday morning I went and just filled it up just in case (I know against the advice) but needs must after our weekend away it’s still showing between a full and half tank so should be enough to see us through the next couple of weeks as we don’t really tend to use the Volvo unless we are towing hopefully the situation sorts itself out soon stations here have been very busy over the last few days

I filled up when we were at Bideford just before the disclosure of the lack of drivers, and apart from the tow down to Chapel Amble our trips have so far been only a few miles each day. Hopefully the panic will have died down in a few day's time and we can top up before our next tow.

Another fine day out without travelling too far. Went to Pencarrow House and had a good walk before lunch around all the grounds and then into the house for an hour's escorted tour through the property. We were the only ones on that tour so got full attention from the guide. One bit of excitement was trying to guide a Robin out of the last room of the Tour, with success in the end. Although the main car park was nearly full there didn't seem to be many people about, except at the cafe.

Sat out for an hour in the sunshine when we got back to the van, but rain started early evening so could be a wet final walk tonight.

Those away have obviously had a good day today, and good to read that you got home ok, Francis.

Thanks for the concern expressed over Flyte, his eyes look a bit better the last couple of days, although his left eye is still milky.

I think the fuel situation is going to be quite a problem re tanker drivers and refilling, too many fuel stations  have now been emptied out. frown

Day off today but have to sort gazebo blown down in the night, 41 mph winds which we hoped wouldn't reach us. Then a trip to a printer's in Wells, wondering if the traffic will be quieter?!

Definitely ' Back End ' Weather today Brue !! Woke to the rattling of the vertical blinds as I leave a slight gap in the windows for air flow. Went to close them to see it absolutely lashing down so won't need to pressure wash the yard, nor indeed top up the bird baths smile.

Decided to spend a bit of time on-line shopping starting with Christmas cards from BT Benevolent Fund so put the CD player on.  surprised I knew there was a CD in there but the CD case was Johnny Cash's " Out among The Stars " Got the shock of a Monday morning when it burst into life with Katherine Jenkins O.B.E. singing { Most Beautifully I have to admit } "Silent Night".

I think it's been a while since I checked through my CDs   defo a job for this evening embarassed

What a weird day we've had weather wise today. Woke up to torrential rain first thing, but between the downpours managed to get Ralph out for a quick walk to make himself comfortable (euphemism intended!) whilst the ladies (human and canine) had a little lie in.

Then middle of the morning it looked to be brightening up so we set out to do the walk we had planned from Burry Green over to Cheriton and Ryer's Down. Blue skies and warm sunshine nearly all the way until the skies clouded up and, fortunately, just after we'd made it to the pub at Llanmadoc, it started pouring down again. A good excuse to loiter in the pub anyway!

By the time we left it was all clear and sunny again. Now back in the cottage and it looks as if the wet stuff has set in for the duration.

More rain forecast for tomorrow but Wednesday looks much more hopeful.

We've arrived in Spain smile and so has the rain.

We are the west side of San Sebastian at Zarautz. Its a big site 440 pitches, quite a few permanent ones. Great views over the bay and town below (we are on a cliff top) in good weather I think it would be stunning as the mountains are behind the town.

Moving on again tomorrow to Gijon area, doing all our sightseeing en route. Think weather is to be mixed.

Surprising how busy it is here, lots of surfers but also lots of German vans. Not overly generous sized pitches for MHs and definitely not 6m between units laughing

Thanks all for all your good wishes. Much appreciated. I spent the morning at the hospital as consultant rang and wanted me have a scan of my neck (to make sure the blood flow is going to the brain OK), All was good. Had a chat with the consultant afterwards.  He is happy so far. MRI scan appointment to be sent in due course. He said it was fine for us to go away to the coast as planned this week so will set off after son sets off for NI tomorrow.

I hope Flyte's eye settle down soon nellie but it sounds as though there are plenty of recommended vets in Cornwall if needed.

Hope the rain holds off for you TG and that you have a good time in Spain.

Hope those away and planning to go away get some fuel.  We went to get some on Saturday. Yes there was a queue but we didn't have to wait for long.  There was a notice saying £30 maximum.  The women in front us us went to pay and then moved forward by one pump and put another £30 in! When OH went in to pay the guy on the till was having a 'mutter' about it. Son went to do some shopping at our small Tesco garage round the corner this afternoon and said there were only 2 cars there. Daughter is being very smug as they have just bought an electric car!

Pleased to hear your news MIllie, hope everything goes well and you can all enjoy your planned trip to the coast. smile

We are bracing ourselves for the final week of the open studios. We've had over 100 visitors up to the weekend, wish I could direct the weather, it was so good last week and that helps things along! Leaf sweeping duties begin again in earnest and I think the farmer is about to start muck spreading in the field behind us.....surprised

Interesting to hear about your Spanish tour TG, hope the weather improves.

Sounds like a good holiday in Wales Moulesy.

I've heard from Canada that Turkeys are in short supply for Thanksgiving, looks like it could be the same here at Christmas (I'm sure Turkeys will be pleased to hear that) so I'm hearing about the same issues with food and deliveries from a worldwide viewpoint. I think there'll be much hunkering down this Autunm and Winter. 🍁

You sure you don't want a second opinion Millie?laughing Good luck. Will this impact on your days at the cathedral when you get back from your break? BTW, enjoy the break.

Looked at the weather forecast for tomorrow at home and decided after lunch to head on home so we packed up and got back without a problem. We weren't doing a lot today as weather quite poor first thing and I hadn't manage to fill up since leaving Wiltshire so didn't want to travel far.

Essentials unpacked, the rest can wait until tomorrow. Spoke to a neighbour who told me the local Shell garage had some diesel so as I was down to less than a quarter tank I rushed around there and paid the premium to fill up. We left Mrs WNs car fairly light on petrol when we went away and hope to use it whilst we're home for a fortnight so I suppose I will be looking to fill that one as well tomorrow. Should have filled it 5 weeks ago.yell

How long do you have the festival on for Brue?

Have you got a destination in mind TG?

We both had our Flu jabs today. A bit earlier than normal as they are usually towards the end of October. Just have to wait now for our invitations for our COVID booster jabs from the NHS.

Whilst we were out in the car, decided to pass by the nearest Tesco to see if they had any fuel. Fortunately they did but no diesel or the cheaper petrol. I do from time to time do a fill up of the "better" petrol anyway. It was all well organised  and we were probably delayed no more than 10 mins. All the queuing was on Tesco premises so no one inconvenienced.

Not hard and fast, hoping to go to Santiago but if the weather isn't favourable we will just turn left and head south. Once the weather turns here at this time of year it doesn't really recover. Still have 4 weeks left so can pick and choose.

You sound like you've had a good trip.

Brue I hope you get good weather for the last week of the Open Studios.

Hi TG, yes we really enjoyed the trip this time around. The very decent amount of weather we had helped .

Still trying to avoid some situations where we don't feel comfortable with and to be honest that was probably the hardest part. We're still used to face masks on public transport and in shops in Wales, something akin to your regs so to see a fair number willingly abandoning these came as a shock to the system but we tried to shop at quiet times, only ate out twice in 5 weeks and visited inside of Houses etc. when things were quieter etc. Didn't stop us enjoying it though. A lot of time spent walking or on the bikes.

Hope the rest of your trip goes to whatever plan you eventually come up with!laughing

Good to hear things went ok Millie.👍 Hope the weather stays nice/improves for those overseas.

We had a lot of rain early this morning, but by breakfast it had stopped, and the sun was back out. Quite a drop in temperature though. We started our Autumn foraging today. We pick up sticks and pine cones to use as stove kindling once it has dried out. Also had an afternoon woodchopping, getting some of our stored wood cut to stove size, and moved around to dry out further. It’s a task we both enjoy thankfully. Mid way through I had to break off as my Mum wasn’t to well today. It’s so rare for her to be poorly to be honest, and I think she was frightened more than anything else. But Sis and me sorted her, I left her more confident and comfortable. It’s a worry though, can’t rely on doctors, and it would be hours and hours in A&E☹️ Hopefully she will be fine tomorrow. I normally take her out for a drive, but a bit difficult with fuel situation at the moment.

MiL was glad to see us back. Well she was glad to see Mrs.WN.😂 I think she prefers to have her decisions made for her at the moment plus she's very worried about all sorts of things, some understandably so but others trivial. You'll no doubt have the same scenario.😉
