What are you all up to

That is a lovely little baby😁 Sorry to hear about papgeno’s dog bite, nasty. A&E anywhere is not the place to be at the moment.
We had a lovely day today. Weather fabulous, we spent most of the day at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Couple of photos, I think we were on the menu in the Polar Bear Walk🤣
The other photo is of an Amur Tiger. There are now only something like 25-35 in the wild, and because they inter mate, the gene pool is tiny, and a side effect is infertility. So zoos around the World are carefully breeding these wonderful animals to try and keep them from extinction. Such a sad state of affairs.

Congratulations! He looks very alert.
He will soon catch up in size, our latest was 3 weeks early and 6 lb 11oz, here he is 1 day old and just under 2 months old......

A nice day out at the tea rooms in Selworthy, in Somerset yesterday, meeting up with friends.
Good to hear about the Hartland Abbey visit Nellie, we missed it on our visit but I always find the coastline there impressive.
Hope your OH gets the ferry DSB, a long drive home (if she's driving?)
ABM, Just for once I was glad to see there was no shortage of glass containers.

Another busy day ahead, we have a group of adults with learning disabilities visiting, our daughter works with them sometimes. They are going to have a picnic here, should be a nice day out for them. Daughter has set up print demonstrations and they've proved popular with all ages.
Sunny Selworthy coming up in the photos. ☀

Had a quiet day, part of it spent at Bowood House.
The car park has been partly taken over by "Temporary Accomodation" for the cast and crew that are currently filming some sort of period drama there, fortunately in the private enclosed walled gardens today, so we and not too many others had full run of the bit of the house that's open and the grounds.
The House was well worth a visit. Loads of works of art in an exhibition that also includes such things belonging to diverse characters as Lord Byron, Queen Vic and Napoleon.
I'm under instructions to take it easy for a couple of days. One down, one more to go.😁

Got home today 13.20 after our 25 night trip. 2 hours 40 minutes from the CCC site north of Oban, weather pretty miserable so could not admire the scenery much.
We came via Connel, Inverary and Arrocher to avoid the bad road at the top of Loch Lomond, distance is not much different. The A85 had been closed yesterday due to a big fire in Taynuilt, but the debris has been cleared a bit and temporary traffic lights installed, so only a 6 minute delay. Very glad the road had been reopened as otherwise a 40+mile detour!
Not done much with the caravan as yet as it is wet and windy here. Have turned on the heating in the house. Pile of dead wasps in one bathroom, we must have a nest somewhere, investigation required, plus there seems to be an overflow from one of the cold water storage tanks in the loft above it as the paving below is very wet. The jobs are mounting up already!
Trip was good, though weather pretty hit and miss. We used CAMC Banchory, Gamrie Bay CL, CCC Dingwall, Glencoe and Oban. DD, Callum and Nathan joined us for 2 nights at Glencoe and 2 nights at Oban, so we had outings to Fort William, Neptune's Staircase, Glenfinnan where we saw a steam train on the railway viaduct, Ganavan beach near Oban for a picnic and sandcastle building, and McCaigs Tower above the town....2 sunny days and great views.
Had hoped to take a day trip to Mull but ferry was fully booked on the 2 dates we had available.
A few things to organise now we are home......car service and MOT.......renovation of our en suite bathroom.......installation of a new CH boiler. The old boiler is working fine at present, but as it is now 33+ years old and not very efficient compared to modern boilers, we have reluctantly decided to replace it while we are still allowed to do so, hope we will not regret it! It will be a straight swap, keeping the same type of system, so should not take too long once organised.

Sounds like a decent trip Kj.
We're less than a week away from returning home ourselves. I think we've had slightly better weather as we've not yet had a full day rained off. An early and a late thunderstorm and a few mornings with mizzle but generally very pleased with it.
We have had some smashing sunsets and last nights was a belter. Looks like we might get another tonight.

WN, it was the same last night for us but no sign of one tonight. Glad you had a pleasant day out at Bowood, one we've visited a few time in the past.
Nice photos, tda and brue, you both have had good days out.
Sounds like a good trip, Kjell, even if the weather wasn't the best.
Another fine day again after early morning mist. Parked up below Kiplin Tor at Westward Ho and walked part of the coastal path. The car park was quiet when we arrived but nearly full on our return, although there were not too many out walking the coastal path. After lunch drove onto Northam Burrows Country Park for a further walk by the estuary, where it was much less busy.

Got a bit of a surprise today as we both got letters from the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Apparently they have closed down the local solicitors we have used for much of the time we have been in MK. The branch we used is part of a much larger group and there is no suggestion, as far as I am aware, that the reason for closure was anything to do with our branch. It seems on looking into it there are millions of pounds missing!!!
In order for them to release our deeds and wills (solicitors copy) we have to start gathering proof that we are who we are and that the mortgage is paid off. We did that in 2007 and at the time commented how little confirmatory paper work there was. It looks like a trip up into the loft and maybe a letter to Halifax as end of mortgage statements are not accepted!

Still nice here, we had another one of those open furnace skies tonight.
Gritted my teeth this afternoon for my 18 monthly wrangle with Virgin Media. As usual, all our applied discounts have now expired, and your new monthly sum will be......£20 per month more!😡 So duly armed with all the information, I cut to the chase, went straight to the “retentions, tier 1” person (those empowered to give out the discounts, not just quote back the usual sales guff) and started haggling. Took me well over an hour, (half of that just to ensure I was who they thought I was🤨), but a decent result. We now have the same BB speed, which is very fast, a landline with free weekend calls, and a new 5GB sim, unlimited calls and texts, with a saving of £25 per month. Worth the effort, but why they have to make it so protracted beats me.

We all had a good day yesterday with our learning disabilities group visit, they had their picnic lunches and then had a go at making prints. One of the visitors also had a guide dog, he had the afternoon off without his harness, lying on the lawn, keeping an eye on the cakes (in true Labrador fashion!) Even guide dogs need some relaxation and his owner, with limited eyesight enjoyed making a print.
We have another group visiting next week!

Brue that looks and sounds like a lovely day 😃
Takethedogalong I admire you for getting discount. Best I did was get the 'free' SIM . They make it hard because folk, like me, hate the hassle. I did get £50 ish off my car insurance thanks to an email from confused who I must have played with last year. They gave cheapest quotes, both being MY insurance company one with car hire and breakdown one without. When I called the insurance company,.they've had our business for many years - not always for more than 40 years. The company matched without hassle, just as well as I don't need more! But when I said why did I have to jump through these hoops there was remark about algorithms and frankly it wasn't worth the brain power to pursue....... With insurance I don't do cheap I want good cover should the need arise at a fair price....
Right enjoy your day folks must get going running a bit behind. Lovely day appears promised here weatherwise 🤞

I always haggle with them - the only exceptions are energy suppliers will not haggle.
We're with Plusnet for landline + fibre, who offer their customers 4Gb and free texts + calls for £6 per month. So I thought why pay PN £7 extra I was paying for the free landline calls, on top of the cost of the rental. So we now pay around £28 for the two and I use my mobile for all out going calls.
If they didn't make the haggling so long and protracted, everyone would have the patience to do it and the discounts would not then be as good :-)

We both had texts from our GP surgery today inviting us to apply for a flu jab. Only trouble was that when we clicked on the link (which we did within 10 minutes of receiving the text) it came up with no appointments available for any of the dates given!

So after a protracted exchange of views on the phone they eventually fitted us both in on the same afternoon - in two weeks time!

Great weather here today again, we are at Cap Breton. Nice site just a short cycle to the beach. Won't be swimming there though it looks a bit to rough. Lots of surfers in the water but very few swimmers.
Having crossed from the Med across the Pyrenees 3 days ago. It was a bit wet in the mountains so we didn't hang around just spent the one night.
Moving on again tomorrow another 90 mins down the coast for the weekend. Still looking at going across the north coast of Spain next week but the weather isn't looking good so might have to change plans again.
Good to hear others are enjoying their trips away in the good weather.
DSB, congrats on the birth of your grandchild.
AD, I think your storm is heading our way, hope its spent itself out by the time it arrives here. We are heading down Madrid way next week if the north coast is a wash out.

Second day of "taking it easy". Had to as well this morning as it was that horrible mizzle that seems to soak you as soon as step out in it.
So some clothes washing and a visit to the Co-Op in Pewsey just down the road, principally to see what the road was like for extracating ourselves on Saturday. Probably go a different route as plenty of Road Closure signs around. The Co-Op also had lots of signs mostly apologising for the bareness of the shelves. General tinned stock seemed fine but all fresh meat and prepared meals were sparse. Hardly a fish in the store, unless it was in tins.
Brightened up after lunch so we wandered down the canal to All Cannings and back just to stretch our legs.

Dull start and then drizzle until after lunchtime, although it cleared up after that until this evening, The mobile mechanic came on time, at 9:30 this morning, and after a look at the job, had to head into Bideford for a couple of bits. All fixed now, hopefully, having spliced the wires and encased them in a waterproof box attached to the hitch framework. It took him until about 12:30 and charged £60 + VAT including parts, which I thought was a very reasonable charge.
One of our gas bottles ran out last night, but a phone call to Morrison's service dept resulted in us being able to get a bottle from the local store after lunch, saved for us from their delivery this morning. Another piece of good customer service.
Had a drive up to Instow, after collecting the gas bottle, and Flyte had a run on the beach.1 -
We had a text from our doctor's offering both of us a flu jab this evening with a walk-in clinic with no need to book. Just a pity we are in Devon tonight, 200mls away!! We might see if we can get an appointment at a pharmacy at our next port of call. Might just have to wait till we get home otherwise.

Hope your trip goes well, robsail.
Brue, your visitors must have had a lovely day looking at the photos.
WN, similar weather here this morning, quite heavy at times too. When we went shopping earlier in the week Lidl's shelves were quite clear compared to those in Aldi.

Plusnet are good, I sorted out Mum and Dad with Plusnet years ago, and have stayed with them. Ironically, it’s an offshoot of BT, but the deals and customer services are much better. It isn’t fast enough for us though, and we are fortunate to be able to get VMs super fast service.
I am quite prepared to haggle, right up to the point of pulling the plug entirely, they always come up with something far better than the starting price. You just need to get straight to the ones who can give you the discount rather than fannyannying around with a heavily accented “Clive” based in Kolkata.
Mum day for me today. Nice warm sunny day, so I took her to Wentworth village, and we dabbled about in the ducal churchyard for an hour. These are all the “Earl Fitzwilliam’s” of Black Diamonds fame. Mum’s dad (my maternal Grandad) worked on the Wentworth Woodhouse Estate, his parents had a lovely old tied cottage somewhere deep in Estate woodlands, so Grandad will have seen a few Earls down the decades. He was given a piece of wedding cake when Viscount Milton married Olive Plunkett. He was the Fitzwilliam killed in a plane crash with Kathleen Kennedy in 1948. Mum still has the boxed cake somewhere. I can remember the last Earl when I was at college there.
Got home to find OH now has restored springs and shockers on our MG. All back together, could be a run out tomorrow👍

Good to hear you are all fixed. I hope Flybe’s eyes are a lot better as well.😁

As I posted a while back { page 4606 }, I needed a 'yellow-top' sample bottle for my annual renal checks, so took a gentle drive round Cheshire & popped into the surgery this morning. Not sure how to describe my feelings as I entered the 'waiting room' only to find that all the seats in six deep piles against one wall and the other little tables which used to hold reading matter, mags and such like arranged in front of them. Just one receptionist on duty, a late twenties young man who was none too sure of what I was after, but found the container they are kept in and produced one for me. Then he asked if I knew how to obtain and provide the sample { !! } After at least one a year for over 30 years, I was happy to give him the required instruction !! Not another person appeared in the whole time I was in the Waiting Room.
The only thing I can think of is that they were preparing for the floods of patients passing through on the " Flu Jab / C19 Jab " trail. at least I hope so 'cos I cannot see any other reason for the state of the room.
Best Wishes Triky, Hope it has not changed too much !!

We had a text message from our Doctor saying ‘we will be invited for a ‘flu jab soon’. I had to go into the surgery on another matter and asked when was ‘soon’? Apparently they haven’t been able to obtain any stock so maybe late October or early November. Our local pharmacy, where we’ve had one in the past, also cannot get stock at present but will let us know. I have managed a booking at Boots for mid October so hopefully that will go ahead.

Our local Lloyds chemist is taking names for this years flue jab, ,one of the staff who lives near us ,told me that they have not had any stock, but were hoping to receive some soon? If not recieved when they would be advising all those who were due
