I bet you had a wetsuit on......I didn’t.
MH is safely back home with new exhaust fitted. OH had a nice day out, easy run to Louth and back. Got a day out planned fairly local before we head off to Cornwall, so plenty of time for a big sort out. Got our travel down Sites sorted out, but still pondering over what to do after Marazion. Won’t be Dartmoor or Exmoor, we did that route last time we were down SW. I quite fancy exploring inland Somerset and Wiltshire a bit more. Might be a bit quieter away from coast as well.🤔

Rufs, I hope you are putting some 50+ cream on your nose and ears, as well as your head. It's a must for me now, as well as a cap or big hat, each day we head out, after having the Basel cell carcinoma removed earlier this year. Don't want to have to postpone more trips for another hospital visit..
Glad to hear that ON is back with a new exhaust on the M/H. Not something one wants to have to get done while away on holiday, tda.

What a little poppet hedlo. We are having a 'house guest' next week. Eldest son and DIL have got a new kitten so we are having her here while they go over to NI. It's years since we had a kitten so it will be a bit of a 'learning curve'.
I’m sure you will enjoy having your ‘house guest’ Milliehull. Just mind the teeth and claws!!! OH and I have both had injuries from the puppy, (he’s 12 weeks old) his teeth and claws are like razors! I hope the kitten isn’t as tiring as having this puppy, I’ve totally forgotten how exhausting it is although it’s probably because we’re 20 years older!!! This time of night I’m quite looking forward to handing him back next weekend.

After rain showers during the night we had a fine day although rather breezy at times. We had a good walk from Clapham, up last the church, under Norber and along to Wharfe and back through Austwick. Got chatting to a couple who turned out to be fellow caravanners, and got another CL recommendation.👍
A car parked just down from us near the church at Clapham was struck by a large branch blown off by the wind, leaving quite a dent in the passenger door. Friday 13th was certainly unlucky for that car owner.
Glad you had a good time over in NI, millie.

If it wasn’t so bulky I would’ve worn a dry suit🤣🤣. I did it once more after that then realised I wasn’t as committed as my Summer self was👍🏻

That sea pool at Bude was always freezing in July when I was a kid. I can recall being too cold to unzip my wetsuit after a surfing session at Newquay one Whitsun. Has to be really warm or south of the Loire to lure me in these days.

There's a good list of Lidos and tidal pools on Country File, beware the tidal one at Weston super Mare my OH spent two weeks in hospital after a visit there when young! (Bugs lurking in the mud....probaly not the best place to go snorkelling)
1 -
There is also a tidal pool at Westward Ho! Mum and Dad lived there and we sometimes went in as kids. Dad said he used to go in as a kid, so it’s been there a while! We often walk along there in the winter months and usually saw one lady in particular who was often in for her swim whatever the weather, usually in her wetsuit. Now, in the summer months, it is usually full of kids with their inflatables, much safer there with inflatables than in the sea.

Always wear a hat even when swimming if the sun very high in the sky, still have a very freckly forehead that some folk mistake for carcinoma but having a daughter as a nurse and SIL a doctor they keep a good eye on me.
Well despite this weekend being festival weekend in Lee On the Solent there were certainly no crowds yesterday. Swam at this spot around 1630 ish yesterday, strong off shore breeze was a tad chilly but beautifiul sunshine.
When we moved south did look to moving to Devon or Cornwall as we remembered it being so idylic when we used to take the children. I guess it still is idylic but just not during July/August from what i have read, so LOS for me, beach may be pebbles but that is no bad thing

Started watching that Paul Merton thing on channel 5 last night, i thought the first episode was a bit grim but this last one was just worse, plain to see it is not their MH and they will just hand it back when finished after going in doors fully booted and spurred in dripping wet wet suits, starting a fire outside and then deciding it was too cold and damp to sit outside so just going in doors again fully booted and spurred and leaving the fire burning

I wondered if they even stayed overnight in the M/H Rufs, it was parked at a very jaunty angle! It was on the site that you walk into from CAMC Coniston site when you go down to the lake. I presume Ch5 commisioned this series or were persuaded to buy it....? Where was the walk from Grasmere, I couldn't quite work it out. (OH thinks the van number plates will get changed!) They are quite entertaining as a pair so it's an easy watch.

OH and I have watched the two programmes of Paul Merton and Partner and apart from entertainment value. It is showing motor caravan ownership to be. carefree great fun? and keep a spare set of nearside rear view mirrors. we thought the same with the angle they had parked ,unless they level it they did not sleep in it

HI TDA there are some good cl's in and around the Somerset Levels there used to be a
lovely one near Catcott and Edington as we lived about 3 miles away from both those villages and there are some very good clycling routes on very quiet roads having done some of them many years ago.

Thanks very much RK👍Will look those up. We like to visit interesting/ historic places, combined with some decent walking and cycling. We have done a few places, but not for a while. We shall avoid places like Glastonbury and Wells this time, too busy for us, and we have been before.

Never seen them empty the loo, or the grey water,
dont think Paul's heart and soul is into it, but no doubt they will have been paid for their Hansomelya tad cloudy today but just cycled into Lee to see what is going on, lots happening in the high street and good to see that the place is not overun with foodstalls, lot of arts and crafts instead

TDA, another idea for Somerset, interesting area, Bruton is getting popular with outsiders but it's a nice little town with good food shops. This site looks towards King Alfred's tower LINK
It's strange, living in Somerset I never really spot CLs. There is another nice one in Long Sutton, a pretty village in the Langport area so you've got access to the levels too and river walks on the Yeo and Parrett.
I've been checking our CL bookings coming up this month and September, had forgotten where one of them was, panic map search!
All in rural N Devon.0 -
Thanks Brue, noting all these. At the moment, I am looking at close to Forde Abbey (“not another ruddy garden” says the OH🤣) and then possibly heading North through Chard. We might head further East into Wiltshire, so that would be up to Barrington Court area (A303) and then along to Haynes Motor Museum (pay back for OH🤣). This is where we miss good old Wincanton Racecourse, so I will look in that area for CLs. I like to navigate via places of interest, rather than just boring roads. Thanks for Link, will have a look.

Interesting morning. Finally got one of my 2019 Christmas presents. A hands on helicopter experience. There were three of us and after a 15 minute briefing on safety procedure and what the various controls did, we each got a go at the controls, whilst the real pilot covered / corrected everything from the other seat. Up and down wasn’t bad, neither was round and round. I managed to keep it lined up with my tree after doing a full turn and maintain a sort of constant height. However, using the cyclic for forward / back and side / side was very, very, very difficult. As to putting all 3 together, we’ll it was a bit windy so he let us cover the controls whilst he hovered the helicopter. The number of inputs / corrections required, which you could feel through your feet and hands was staggering. After that we had a little fly round and did a simulated engine failure landing, which was fun. The dual carriageway is the A46 about 10 miles or so north of Leicester.

Good dry and mainly sunny day.
Bit of gardening this morning and some more MH packing.
This afternoon our eldest son and his family descended on us
the children, now both teenagers, are back to boarding school on Tuesday. Will see them again on Monday when we all go out for meal, its become a bit of a tradition that we do that the night before they go back to school.
Son and DIL will go back down the road on Wednesday as they have to pack up their army quarter to move. The modern town house they are in has subsidence so they all have to move out in his block. Moving from Tidworth to Bulford so not to far away.
Neighbours over the back from us are having a party today/night wonder what time they will go on to.

Thanks Brue, I have found that one, looks a really nice Site. Will phone tomorrow. Going to hop home doing a couple of nights on CLs at a time, so we get a day off from being on the move, get some cycling in hopefully. We have Britstops book as well to go at, so some good options. Thanks to everyone for suggestions.

It’s been on our list of places to visit for a while. We missed it out a few years ago when we camped at Wincanton, heading down to SW. We did have a good visit to Gaydon a couple of years ago, staying at Warwick Racecourse. OH loves his classic cars😁

Busy sulking now !!
Had an awful day at Astle Park Steam Rally ~~ Very well attended but only about a dozen of us bothered with the C19 advice and then it rained on us so I didn't get to see the fire works
. What's a man to do under conditions like that ??I came home, stripped the camera down and gave it a thorough drying and dusting, turned on the Test Match Commentary ~~ almost immediately started double sulking.
Brian is not an 'appy bunny !
Do so hope all you lot out there had a wonderful, pleasant, happy day whether at home or away ~~ keep up the enjoyment

Down at DD's today to remove skirtings in the lounge to make painting the walls easier, plus some were coming loose anyway, and others were badly fitted. Painter is coming hopefully on Wednesday. That will be more work for me next week, not sure I will be able to alter and refit them before we go away again.
We had a request to buy nappies from Lidl as they were running out, and could we bake some bread and bring some lunch stuff..........seems they have not managed to do any shopping since their holiday!
Last few days of school holidays up here, SIL starts back at work on Monday, so they are having a final few outings while they can, plus SIL's Dad is not well so he has been helping his Mum to look after him, so at least there is a good excuse for lack of shopping.
Following feedback from the new caravanners, we decided to upgrade our sun canopy to a fully enclosed porch awning, which arrived today, so we will be able to try it out on our next trip. We had thought to get an air awning type, but they were out of stock everywhere, so we had to stick with the poles. Much less expensive too!
Day at home tomorrow, I have a blockage in our CH system to resolve, and a toilet still to fix, so plenty to do. Plus car has to be emptied for service on Monday. Gas inspection at Guide Hall on Wednesday, new alarm and tracker to be fitted on the van on Friday, and DD wants me to go swimming with her and the children. Going to be a busy week!

Brilliant day yesterday as can be seen from the photo, joking that was the temp on my Spanish daughters balcony yesterday, so glad we decided not to go to Spain, they are half filling hot water bottles with water, sticking them in the freezer and then using them to keep cool. The holiday cottage is a very old Spanish stone built cottage, coolish inside, but no aircon

MIL's send off day today, then a family party in Wendover woods Tring, very fine drizzle just now but set to improve it is very sticky looks a bit thundry but not forecast

Goodness. Exciting and terrifying in equal measure Steve!!

Nice morning here, a bit damp but that will help a few veg plants that went in yesterday.
Kj I feel tired reading your post! I was just wondering when the schools went back...autumn reaches Scotland earlier than here. We had very short summers in the Highlands. Going to watch the Beechgrove Garden in a minute.
Debsc, yes we're off to N Devon. Three trips, one soon and one in September, a long way inland for the first, I think the coast will be too busy for us just now. Near Hartland later on.
