What are you all up to

Glad to hear that you are moving better brue, and hopefully can say the same to you tomorrow, tda. I often wake up with an aching back but our morning walk works in getting rid of it.
We've had 2 days of showers and had heavy rain through the night too. Have been over to Chevin Country Park both days, as there's plenty of shelter there for our walking. Walked up to Surprise View today is morning, plenty of people about doing the same. It's a great spot to let ones dog off for a run, as many were doing without any agro between them. Site is full tonight with ours being the only caravan on.

"Rufs, did you see anything of the Fastnet start?"
Brue, No i didnt, they come out of Cowes and then head south via the needles rather than coming through the solent so you would need a very good pair of bins to see them from our shoreline, you need to be either in Yarmouth on the island or Hurst Castle on the mainland for the best views, yesterday was very rough so it would be quite spectacular. . Lots of yachts in the solent last week for Cowes week, but that is slightly different from the Fastnet as most of the racing is actually done in the Solent.
1 -
Even that depends on tide height. Unless there are high spring tides, they seldom get courses set along the mainland shore. When I worked in Lee on the Solent, I spent my lunch break with binoculars but only once in about eight years can I recall a course that routed them from Black Jack/Calshot to Browndown.

Another first today, for me at least.😀 I paid a cheque into the bank, via my phone banking App. Thus saving a trip into town. Well I hope I have, it takes two days to clear, although I have a receipt saying it was successful. The procedure was relatively straight forward, although taking the photo was a bit fiddly. You don’t press the button, it takes it when it reckons you’ve got it framed right and gives on screen prompts, up a bit, left down a bit, just like the golden shot.😂 You’ve also have to take a shot of the back, even if it’s blank, not sure what the point of that is. It only covers cheques up to £500 but we are unlikely to get any that big. This one was from HM Revenue and unfortunately it was much, much smaller.☹️ However, at least moving in the right direction.

SteveL interesting re cheque paying in, which bank are you with? Not looked as to whether you can do via Nationwide App.
Another day of very heavy frequent showers, I noticed the wheat in fields has been flattened in places and that was Saturday 😱. When the sun comes out for a few minutes it's lovely and warm. Hammering down again at the moment! We get an extra water feature when this happens, nextdoor's flat roof comes down the drain pipe missing the guttering the lower sloping roof as it has too much force!
Got a text from GP, to say on next routine appointment discuss blood tests results 🤣🤣. 2 of us share the phone number, we both had blood tests last Friday so not overly helpful. Got through to the surgery quite quickly, shock horror, it turns out it's me, but not all the items requested were checked by doctor yet! Wasn't my thyroid resultswhich I was expecting at the mo to discuss,. Able to make a telephone appointment for 18th, lunchtime - when I asked what that was likely to mean, the receptionist thought between 11am and 1pm so I'll have to stay by the phone. I've asked for GP to call on the house phone, I have before but they seem to miss that in the notes. Mobile reception in our house isn't good and I don't wish to discuss my health on my mobile with random strangers listening if I'm out. Am I being over sensitive?
Because of highly vulnerable OH we haven't done much that involves being amongst folk unknown to us. Still wearing masks on the odd occasion we, usually me, visit shops etc. I think that's how it will be for us for some considerable time to come, but that's better than taking unnecessary risks as far as we're concerned.

We agree B2 we really dislike having conversations on our mobiles. Like you we don’t have a great mobile reception at home so it can cut out a few words which isn’t helpful! I had a telephone appointment a couple of weeks ago and the Doctor called the house phone (as we requested) but the Doctor was obviously using his mobile phone so we had the same problem, very frustrating, but I managed to fill in the gaps!!! OH, being a little deaf just can’t hear on his.

We are with the Nat West. I think the facility has been available for a while, hidden away in the menus, but they have recently started promoting it.
I had a phone consultation re blood tests a bit back. When they made the appointment, they said 3pm. When it got to 3:30 I rang the surgery. “Oh we only give a time so as to put them in the system, it does not really mean anything” I finally got a call about 5:15pm.

it's amazing isn't it? Before all this non face to face appointments there was a very curt sign in our GP waiting room stating if you were 10 minutes or more late then they had the right to cancel your appointment and you'd have to remake another. I was shocked, I'm not one who is late but I do remember as a new mum just about to leave the house when baby needing changing at the last minute., don't recall it ever happening for an appointment. But traffic and other genuine reasons can happen. I'm a great believer in the GP taking time with a patient as necessary. I never had the bottle to ask if it was a reciprocal agreement and thus the GP would keep to time😉.
Aren't we lucky not to have work to get in the way of such important appointments?

Recently I decided to e mail the gp and an hour later got a call back from her saying "I think this is a phone call job...." She is very efficient when it comes to the crunch, I was trying to save her time. However the ensuing conversation regarding my hip meant I had to do balancing tests, prodding etc over the phone...maybe it was like this in the Australian Bush?! (Except she is only just a mile away!)
Have we advanced I wonder, or has it become too DIY?Steve, I can do the cheque thing on my app too, haven't tried it yet but it will make life easier, it's either a post office pay in envelope, fiddly with form filling same as post it and form filling or a very long journey to our nearset branch.

Bakers2, Nationwide are not set up for paying in cheques by mobile phone yet. We tried them a short while ago and it was a no.
Another lovely day on the Moray coast, probably the best yet. Woke to sun and blue skies, around lunch we did get a lot of clouds but they cleared after a few hours. Now we have a lovely sunset shining across the sea, the reflection is wonderful.
Last day here
took a trip west along the coastal route, stopping off at the Dolphin centre at Spey bay, quite busy with cars and people. Then we went on to Elgin for a look around and to get my glasses sorted, lost the little screw that holds the leg on. Thankfully I always carry my spare pair with us.Have really enjoyed our time here its such a lovely coast line.

A cooler cloudy start to the day, which suited us fine as we were booked for a visit to Hardwood House, so could leave Flyte in a cool car as we went round the house. We were surprised to find that the car park was quite full, but there were not many going round inside the property. After lunch we did a couple of the 3 Park Trails, taking in the exhibition in the church. Decided to miss out the lake/garden walk as that was where most of the visitors appeared to have headed, along with the children's play area of course.
Lots of road works in the area so plenty of queues of traffic. We will be glad to move on to a quieter area of Yorkshire tomorrow.

We are with BOS/Halifax, they have been doing paying in cheques on the App for quite a while, works well.
I have had a few appointments by phone with the consultant looking after my hyperparathyroidism, OH and DD have chastised me for telling him that I am fine.......they have a different opinion!
It seems, unknown to me, that I have become sleepy, have short fuse, and have become much more argumentative. I feel no different.
My next call is in November, DD is threatening to sit in on the call and rat on me!

Dont need to pay vast sums of money to see sunrises like this 15 mins on my bike, this is looking out to Gunwharf Portsmouth with the Spinnaker tower in the distance, temp was only 12 degs, but now increasing rapidly and we are supposed to be set fair until the end of the month, need to get out and cut the grass etc once it has dried out a bit

Weird, just lost a post, was rambling on anyway.

Heads up to gardeners, seeds are being sold at half price, treated myself to some yesterday at a local garden centre. OH and I had a coffee out in nice sunshine and a wander round.
TG your holiday sounded good, friends used that site a few years back and we'd like to visit it someday.

Thanks for the seeds tip Brue👍

just been told by a Scots member it seem speeding though a village on the way to Stranraer is quite common so the pelican crossing has been connected to a speed camera close by and if you exceed the limit the lights on the crossing turn red for you, what a Good idea, last time we saw similar was in Majorca when is speeding all the lights through the village were red for the speeder

"Cornwall is heaving" they say, and so it is, indeed. But walk just 10 minutes or so away from the busy car parks and you could have this view for your lunchtime pleasure!

Back home and all unpacked, washing machine just finished first load and the rain has started

Brue, its a nice CL with good views but you do get road noise during the day from the road outside the site. Its amazing how many cars speed up and down that road, its a single road with passing places. Mike the owner has put in new drainage over the lockdown and levelled off a couple of the pitches. Its a busy CL as its open all year.
Before we went away I put down a weed and feed on one of the lawns, I've now got a black and green lawn

Both the cats (not ours) have been to see us, they have had a fuss and a wander round 1 now curled up on the back decking the other one on a chair on the covered deck at the side of the house

Lots of things to get on with now we are back and preparing to go to France. Must get all paperwork sorted.
Picking the MH up tomorrow, not happy. They have had it a week and not done a thing to it we have found out. Couldn't say when they would get round to it
absolutely fuming. We have waited 13 months for them to repair the worktop and a cupboard, it was agreed and booked in for the week we were away, they know we are going away at the end of the month and need it back. So we will collect it and it will have to go back again at a later date to be done. We've always avoided buying from this dealer in the past, now I remember why.House feels quite chilly compared to the caravan, think we might need the fire on tonight.

This is more if a tale of what I didn't do today. Three members decided to go up Striding Edge and come down Swirall edge, three decided to go round all the boring (aka non climbing) shops in Grasmere while I sat on my favourite bench, occasionally going to get an ice cream. The pics are from those of the more adventurous party. I don't normally post others pics but I thought they might interest fellow lake lovers.

We’re getting away again for a few days tomorrow - just up to Englethwaite Hall. We’ve some busy times coming up so we’re trying to relax while we can.
For once I’m not taking enough food for the whole trip, but have factored in a trip out to a Marks & Spencer Food Hall. I can’t remember the last time I shopped anywhere but our local Booths.
We've vaguely checked the caravan and crossed a few things of the list, and hopefully we’ll be away by dinner time. The technology bag is packed with chargers and cables, plus my Kindle and OH’s real books. I had a panic when I went to update my ancient Classic IPod - iTunes toId me it was in “recovery mode” and I needed to restore to factory settings. It then became an empty storage device. But eventually I copied over 12,000 plus songs from the computer and it’s ready to go.
So here’s to 4 or 5 days of doing nothing more onerous than raising a glass or two.

Had a blitz on the water tanks, in and out. Decided to experiment with lower tyre pressures as well since the Carthago doesn't nag me like the old one did. Dropped them from 80psi all round to 72/75 and will see how we go.

Great pictures Corners. You have to be fit and well balanced to do Striding Edge, it takes no prisoners. I first did it aged 12, with school. Not sure if schools would go up there now, but none of us fell off thankfully. I saved falling over for Lake Windermere, along with most of the lunch sandwiches😂

I remember one of the partners in the firm of Accountants that audited our books back in the 1990s fell off Striding Edge and was killed. I never met him but the man who did our books said he used to walk almost every weekend and holiday that he could. The person he was walking with injured himself. It was winter and conditions were not ideal. It really doesn't take prisoners.
Nice photos CS. Vicarious pleasure indeed.
The car was in for service and MOT today. All went well if a little slowly but 2 new tyres need urgent action especially as we're due to go away in a fortnight.
Garden almost finished. Some planting to be done and just a bit more pruning. It was nice to visit my mates at the tip yesterday.

Enjoy the break Goldie. You just might strike lucky with the weather this time. Hope so.

Sounds like folks are busy, OH has cut the grass around our field Monday before it got to hot and I did some mowing around the house and today before it get even hotter some strimming to do then off to a friend this afternoon for OH sort out her ride on tractor tyres and a few other chores, we did the tip run yesterday morning gosh it was packed and nearly everybody had a trailer ours was just a small trailer so OH wheeled it to the garden waste and got rid of a few other bits as well never seen it so busy there then called at a local small Carrefour for a few things and that was packed as well glad to get back home.
Boot sale on Sunday at our friends village and as they know folk there we have got a pitch next to a old garage so hopefully there will be some shade will be taking sun umbrella and stand, even managed to find some more stuff to take.
Upto 35C today and tomorrow then 33C and getting a bit cooler for the weekend and next week as well.
Take care folks.

and if you could throw in a bit of this wouldnt life be grand

Daughter now at her holiday cottage in Santa Barbara, she sent me this yesterday
, we were supposed to be going with her but she stayed over a bit longer in the UK so we decided not to go, perhaps as well 40c is a bit OTT for me, even though i worked in the Middle East for a short while I never quite got used to 40c+0 -
Cornwall is busy, but it is quite possible to find relatively quiet spots. Yesterday, we went accross to Portholland. Beach was a bit 'muddy', and roads are not brilliant. There were folk about, but no where near as busy as the larger places. Off to get a tyre changed on the car this morning before travelling to Putts Corner CAMC site, in S Devon, on Friday. We'll decide what to do today after the tyre change and after due consideration of the weather!! 😃
