Goldie, is your OH on Presidential duties for the Show? If so, I hope you all have a wonderful and memorable time
Yes, as there was no show last year (and very few other activities) he gets to "stand on". It raises all sorts of questions for me - as it's a two day show (this year only!), do I wear two different outfits, including two different hats? And can I justify spending quite a bit on a new handbag? It would match my shoes (which are not new, so no extra cost there!). When he was President Elect in 2019 I bought a new hat, but in the end couldn't wear it as it was the wettest year ever. But it came in when our daughter got married in June. Luckily my husband is happy to wear "old" clothes.

I found some motoring magazines from 1958 to 1962 in the loft of my late in-laws house. They are from a magazine called Milestones - for the motorist who drive with skill and responsibility, was there a magazine for those that didn't?
I find some of the adverts, articles and letters incredibly fascinating!
Did anyone use the air bridge?

Some car adverts, my dad had a Ford Anglia, anyone had any of these?

And it was ahead of its time, speed limits and over there driving!
Or perhaps nothing changes?

1938 Austin 10, A35 van, Anglia estate, Hillman Imp, Austin 1100, Renault 12, Fiat 128/3P ~~ and then I saw sense ~~ the V.W. T2 Eurovette was the first of 8 (
) Motorvans Corners, How pleasant it is to be reminded of the high standard of English used in the adverts there, especially the Quote from the Harbour Board ~~ Flush Haynes, one of my teachers of English, would have had it etched on a baseball bat the better to drive it into our wooden / woolly heads

My Dad had a Ford Anglia, the first time we came up to Scotland there was 5 of us in it. A bit of a squeeze I remember. Mum and Dad in the front, bug sis and big brother in the back and me squeezed in between them. No seat belts back then. Still remember its registration number, 482 EWJ. Strange as I couldn't tell you what my car reg is.

Yes they were a small car.
My dad who would never wear any bright colours, I mean dark blue was his usual colour for anything, had a bright yellow one! It was so out of character. I assume it was cheaper because of the colour?

I had an Anglia too but mine was the estate version. Then there was the Zephyr with its lazy 3 speed column change gearbox and front bench seat.🤣🤣

We've had a couple of smashing days. On Monday we were invited up to eldest sons In laws house for dinner. They are staying there for a few days prior to the gkids going back to boarding school. All of us usually go out for a meal the night before they go back, this time the gkids decided they wanted to cook for us all. What a great job the did, lasagne, mac and cheese, lots of salad and bread followed by individual apple pies. They both love cooking something they don't get to do at school. Now both back at school and. Mum and Dad on route back to Tidworth. They have a house to pack up as they have to move due to subsidence.
Then yesterday we spent the afternoon and evening with friends we made, while on a CL near Stranraer. They are on a site near us and asked if we fancied a meet up. They have new bikes they wanted to test out and show off. So we took ours up and we all went for a ride. Back at the MH we had lots of laughs and great food once again (I could get used to this) they have never took their MH abroad, so are thinking about tagging alone with us for awhile next Spring. We don't usually go with anybody else, been there done that, not always a good thing. However so have they and we all agree there has to be ground rules 😁 think it could be fun. Will have to see if they still feel the same come next year.
Back to reality today and more work being done around the house and vans. The caravan is now back from being serviced, with a new skylight to replace the Omnivent that exploded when we were away earlier this year. OHs wallet considerably lighter.
OH had a trip up to the saw mill to pick up more fence posts and rails, going back tomorrow to collect the boards all 480 of them. The guy next door is replacing his all around his garden, some of it borders ours some the other side of him. He's been at it all summer on and off, mostly off. We have access to a double axle trailer so OH helping him out as neighbour doesn't have the license to tow it.
Cute photos Millie and Heddlo, kittens and puppies done you just love em.
Its been fair decent weather the last few days, warm enough for just T shirts, when the sun is out its quite hot. Clouded over now but that's ok all my washing is nice and dry ☺

I had the Corsair column change and front bench seat, what more could a girl wish for

Weather been very unkind today, and swimming was def not on the agenda, but caravan is looking sparkling hitch up and she is all ready to go.
off to EG daughter first to look at some puppies, still not sold any
, i could well be coming the owner of a new puppy
just started to open their eyes, had some interest but daughter is asking £1700 which i think is too expensive but early days 0 -
We have had Ford 100E Anglia, Ford Zephyr same as tinwheeler's (maroon) Austin A60 Cambridge, Ford Cortina mark 2 and mark 3, Standard 8 and 10 thanks Cornersteady for the memories.
Caravan cleaning today and the weather was just right not to cool or hot, tomorrow fill two trailers ours and a friends with bushes and small trees we chopped down earlier in the year so there will be some grass for strimming after that next week also a hedge to trim outside our wall ext week and more strimming in the same area also I have some pruning and chopping to so another busy week next week and the weather looks cooler again next week.

Did anyone have the Ford 105E, side valve, Popular?
I remember lifting engine out, carrying it indoors and reconditioning it on the lounge floor. Grinding valve seats and valves whilst watching TV.
Couldn't get away with that these days!

No, but I had the Ford Pop E93A. Double declutching was a must on that.
Oh, I do love modern cars with all mod cons.

Thanks, Ina, we knew about them as our daughter had driven up last weekend to spend a few restful days at our place when we were still away. We will be there mid morning so it shouldn't be too busy, fingers crossed, but we won't be doing more than 50 mph so the speed limit will not bother us.

Great that he gets to enjoy things after last year, lots to think about as well😁
Definitely two outfits👍 I hope you both, all, have a great show. We used to go to lots when we had our horse, competing and spectating, love a good Agricultural Show. Great Yorkshire (of course😂), Royal Highland, and Stithians in Cornwall we always enjoyed, then later in year, Game Fair at Chatsworth. Must try and see if we can be around your area next year for your show, looks excellent👍

I might be wrong (it's a long time ago!) but I thought the 105E was in the Anglia with the backward sloping rear window and the 100E side-valve engine was the one fitted in the Anglia / Popular that preceded it? The 100E Popular was my very first car (when I was about 16!) - never drove it on the roads - just backwards and forwards on the drive until the battery eventually went flat
When I was a 'proper' driver, my very first 'real' car was an Austin A35!! Gosh how things have changed.0 -
Riachardandros you are correct re cars as OH had the 100E 1172cc engine with side valve engine it used to belong to his father and when he had it the big ends went and ejected the con rods to the outside those were the days as he was an apprentice in Malvern friends got together and one friend had a ford popular and not in good condition so an engine change overnight as they had a workshop to do this sort of work, he still does the odd bit of servicing to the Landcruiser but not engines anymore.
Another dull day to start with but a bit of caravan interior cleaning then tackle gardening chores at the bottom of the field.

Going back to old cars - I learnt to drive in an old Anglia (I don't know the model, but it had three gears on a long stick that was like stirring porridge) reg WBP 2. It was a step up from the "sit up and beg" model we had before. Then we graduated to my Dad's pride and joy - a bright red sloping back model. This is in 1968 with my then boyfriend (now husband).

Talking about Ford Anglia's, around 1959/60 we were taken on a school trip to the Ford factory at Dagenham and saw the Anglia production line. Also saw the Fordson Tractor line as well. It must have been a long trip from Southampton and no M25!!!

That made me smile, Goldie - can’t remember how old I was - probably about 8 or 10 when my Dad got a brand new 105E like that - except it was pale blue. I thought it was really sporty! (Probably did 60 flat out!) I also remember he got a set of those clear plastic seat covers to protect the upholstery from us kids! Can you imagine that now! How is it new cars today never smell like they used to??

The sun has finally come out on our CL but not before we got drenched on a woodland walk this morning. Attempted a walk down to the river Mole near where it joins the Taw. Soon realised the next walk along would have been easier, no bridge on our walk so could only glimpse the river!
Cars.....Trying to remember cars my Mum had when "newer" designs came out but I think she was keen on Minis from an early stage.

I learned to drive in an A60 Suntor Caravette😁 Column change, I hated that column change. Then I graduated to Land Rovers....a 2, a 2A, a3, then a Fire Engine Red Range Rover, then a Defender, then a Discovery. Alongside we also had an MGB GT, an MG Metro, a Riley Kestrel, a Rover P6 3.5litre (hell, was that car fast😱), a Mini Cooper, a Rover SD1 (also a 3.5 vroom machine), an MGB Roadster (asleep in garage at moment), a next to useless later offering from LR, the Freelander 1. This is the vehicle that finally ended our love affair with Land Rovers, and we moved onto Jeeps. My sister still has Vanden Plas 1300.
I never knew what might be arriving on the drive next at one bit, OH loves old cars. Mum and Dad never drove, but OH’s Dad had all sorts. OH learned to drive in an Austin Champ. And his brother’s Daimler V8, stunningly lovely car.

Regarding old cars: I had one of the Ford Anglias with the sloping back window during the late 1970s. It was maroon and grey. A 105E reg no. SEG291. No seat belts but I drove our children and their friends all over the place! It was a great little car. My very first car was a black Ford Angla. The one that looked like a black box. I also had a 2CV at one time. Now that is a gear change to reckon with! I am very boring now as I have a Renault Clio.

Cloudy day but no rain.
After doing our covid tests swabs and blood samples (finger prick) for the NSO this morning, OH did another run to the saw mill for more wood. That's it all done now with enough for us to do a small fence as well.
I did the housework + the ironing, exciting life I have just now.
The gas boiler man came this afternoon to service it, so all good for another year.
Tomorrow my new shed arrives and there is a man coming to do the repairs to the MH worktop and the small cupboard door. Its taken 13 months, 1 failed wasted trip to the dealer but finally it appears we will get it done.

MH still to go to the weigh bridge but we've been through the books and adding up what we've put on it and what the MIRO was, against the max payload, we should still have plenty to spare but would like to have that confirmed.
Most things are now in the van, OH still to sort out his clothes which I will then change

Starting to think we just might get to Europe this year.
My first car was joint ownership, with my, at the time boyfriend an Austin A30, shortly after I passed my test. Used to drive Dad's Avenger much to the disgust of my brother who wasn't allowed.
OH had a Ford Cortina Mk1 when we got together, since then we've had lots of cars of all types of makes. Rover, Audi, Peugeot, Ford, Mazda, Nissan, Renault, Toyota, Kia, Triumph, Chrysler, Honda, Vauxhall and a Simca which was our first ever brand new car.
Favourites were the Rover 3.5 Automatic V8, Audi 100, Peugeot 405 estate, Nissan Primera and Triumph 1300 TC, lovely car, British racing green with walnut dash.

We are now back at our second home FM and as posted the third thing has gone wrong. Rosa is not well we had an emergency. appointment at our vets this morning , as she has started to wobble as if drunk it is a neurological problem they think, she is still as bright as usual and eating OK but cannot coordinate her rear feet ,, so she has been referred to the Royal vet college at Brookmans park for a scan but not until, 12sep as unless it is a real emergency ie RTA nearly all vets are absolutely rammed with appointments
While home picked up mail Glanced at "meadow", could not get close to house as they are using our local pub for a film of some sort ,,lots of vehicles
