Poor little Rosa, hope things go well for you JV. Vets are marvellous in things they can sort out nowadays, so hopefully all will be well🤞

2CV’s are absolutely brilliant in snow👍 Great cars, but as you say, the gear change takes some getting used to.
Worse car I have ever been forced to use? A Wartburg. Belonged to BIL who kindly loaned it to OH when our vehicle was off the road. I never drove it, and developed a mad keen need to Cycle to work at that particular moment in time😂

Best wishes from me too for a speedy recovery for Rosa, JVB. I know how much she is a major part of your family.

TDA I absolutely loved my 2CV. I wss devastated when it finally died. Our children were teenagers at the time and found it 'embarassing'. Apparently it wasn't 'cool'. 😳.

JVB best wishes for a speedy recovery for Rosa. It must be a worrying time for you especially as you have quite a wait for her appointment.

Thank you all for the posts about Rosa, she and OH now make a great couple I have got her a harness with a hand hold to help her in an out of caravan (Rosa that is) we just have to wait and see what the Vet college ,say
One thing that our vet did say the last place that they and others would refure to is Fitzpatrick as he would charge the earth and goes ott with his remedies

I thought they were "cool" Millie.

Best 2CV story? We set off for a walk along a few dales in the Peak District with our Westie and parked just off the A6 outside Buxton. We admired the 2CV parked next to us. It had gone by the time we got back and I didn't think anymore of it. I took the filthy animal down to the river to clean her up and lo and behold the poor 2Cv was upside down in the river. The handbrake had apparently failed and it had gently rolled down the slight slope and off the end of the car park. The owners were sitting nearby waiting for it to be recovered. Poor people.
It still looked cool though.

We get home yesterday midmorning, not long before the drizzle started. Just as we got to the Brettagh Holt roundabout we were stopped from going round by a police car and bike. A large load then come down off the A591 onto A590 and with no-one allowed to pass it, we had to follow it all the way to the top of Lindale hill where it eventually pulled into the layby, I guess to allow traffic to clear, before continuing its journey. So there was another long queue of traffic along that stretch of road, following that on Monday after the accident at Gilpin Bridge.
OH has managed to get all the washing done but most of it has had to dry off in the house as it has been raining again this afternoon.

My 2CV story occurred in France when a pal and I were hitchhiking to Spain. We got a lift in a 2CV driven by a couple of French students heading back to college. There we were in the back with our ruchsacks on our knees when the driver took a corner too quickly and rolled the car gently into a ditch!!😯😵. Fortunately no one was injured but after being rescued my pal and I decided that we would continue the next part of our journey by train! 😊

Whoopeeeeee. Finally, FINALLY, got around to washing the caravan. Francis and Nellie would be ashamed of me.

Only taken nearly 3 weeks since returning from the Malvern.
Lots of packing going on, plus acting as taxi for MiL to take her to Chiropodist, plus a Click and Collect from Tesco to make sure she doesn't run out of Wine whilst we're away.

The C&C didn't have some printer ink that we had ordered so Mrs WN nipped into the store to see if they had some. Looks like Tesco have had a run of Thefts of them as she had to take a card to service desk and they had to go to the storeroom for them. She did mention that the other day she had to use their toilet and found a load of clothes tags on the floor. Staff said it's unfortunately common but you can't put a camera in the toilet area and can't stop people without a reason. Shameful but some people don't know the meaning the word.
Hope Rosa is OK JVB. Don't like to hear of poorly animals.

Finally commissioned our solar panels down the beach house this week, makes a tremendous difference to have some electricity, we got a new fridge, old one gas which we will decommission, new kettle, although will keep the old whistle gas one for nostalgic reasons, and we still have the gas lights on the walls, but will now use more and electricity and ween ourselves off the gas.
Off to E.G. to see family, pooch just gone for a wash and set at the groomers, not sure how he is going to re-act with all these little beauties, they also have a pet rabbit which roams around freely and their dogs are ok with this, pooch wont be, could be having rabbit pie for Sunday lunch if we are not careful.
Another of those strange days today, not cold, very still, but not a lot of sunshine, will try a swim before we go to E.G. outside temp showing 19c so not too bad, water temp is showing at 18c but did not feel like this a couple of days ago

"2CV’s are absolutely brilliant in snow" ....and the reason....
very narrow wheels, had a friend who owned a garage in the Lake District used to swear by his 2CV for getting about in the snow. We had a short wheel base Suzuki Vitara when we lived in Scotland, the sort you had to get out and lock the front wheels to get 4x4 drive, used to beat the Discovery hands down in deep snow, for stability.

Today most of the family are at Penrith Auction Mart. It's the annual sale of The Dairy Shorthorn Society and we've taken up a contingent. Three in-milk heifers and five in-calf heifers. Plus a 6 week old calf that we are selling for charity (R.A.B.I.). My husband is President of The Westmorland Show and in a normal year would be expected to host some sort of money raising social event (on farm). But the way things are we didn't fancy that. So have donated a calf to be sold at Auction. It starts at 12 noon today, so there's still time to place a phone bid!.
Meanwhile I'm at home paying bills.
Photos from my son's Instagram. I know they're not the usual subjects posted on here! Showin the "business end".

Great photos Goldie especially the calf, memories of being brought up on a small holding in Shropshire we just had a few Herefords.
Gosh those pups are growing well cannot not remember what they are please Rufs.
Our friend over here has a 2CV and loves it, OH had one ride in the front and said never again give me a 4x4, many years ago we went on a Land Rover off roading trip in norther France around some of the 1st world war cemeteries as it was the only way you could to get to some and the chap who did the tour in an ex military Land rover and his back up vehicle was a suzuki likes yours rufs and it went anywhere, we had at that time 3.9 soft dash range rover classic OH's last one of 4 he did change to wheels and tyres for the trip and then sold them back in the UK a bit noisy on main roads.
Now gone very warm here upto 31C today and tomorrow then cooler from Sunday so outside chores left until Monday and inside chores.
Looks like our break away will be 2-9th Sept as OH got doctors appointment on the 10th so will be going to the site that TG stayed on near Cordes-sur-Ciel so looking forward to that.

Gosh fancy you remembering that RK, we did like that site, we had a great pitch felt like camping in someone's garden. Handy for lots of places to.
Have a good trip, we are getting the tunnel over then but not yet sure where we will aim for

Hurray, my new shed has arrived and been installed
now if I have time I can get it painted.More packing gone into MH I've done OHs clothes, he thinks it might be too much. Ha anymore than 1 pair socks, a pair shorts, t shirt and some undies is what he would pack
I'm tempted one holiday to just let him go with his meagre offerings
Dry grey day here but not chilly. Off to hairdresser shortly to get cropped, I'll do OHs next week.
The chap came this morning to 'fix' our small worktop and cupboard door in the MH. What a great job he has done, if you didn't know they were damaged you would never see it. Highly recommend him and the company he works for.

Today has been an expensive day!
Car went for service and MOT, now 5 years old, on Monday and garage informed us that the rear fog light light did not work.....MOT failure apparently. So I said OK to fitting a new light unit.
However that did not fix it, so they had to investigate further, which of course has to be paid for!
Got word yesterday that car was now fixed, so picked it up today. £800+ bill for everything, and this is not a VW dealer, but a less expensive independent specialist!
Turned out the problem was caravan related......when towbar was fitted the specialist towbar place had apparently cut the earth wire to the foglight for some reason, and not connected it again. So foglight has not worked since then.....February 2017.
So.......since then the car has had 4 services at VW dealer, and 2 MOTs, yet nothing has been said about this, so we are well out of time to complain to towbar fitters. I do not think we have actually had cause to use the rear foglight since we bought the car, so never realised it did not work......and neither did anyone else apparently!!

Why is it that when you are packing the car or caravan every neighbour wants to stop and have a chat? The job takes twice a long.
Had a phone call from the library. A book I placed an order on in the last lockdown has finally surfaced. Did I still want it? Half past 4 on a Friday night. Yep, sure did, so a mad dash to pick it up. Now have had a dozen books to read whilst away. Glad we don't have a TV. Good old library.
Supposed to rain all day tomorrow so wanted to get as much done as possible today.
We'll be off soon to not far from where Brue is and hope to call in at Hartland Abbey when taking a walk around the headland. I know Brue is further inland but she's a lot closer to Hartland than I am.
How's the ankle holding up?KJ, presumably you'll not be using the VW dealer any time soon. That's a poor indictment of their work.

It has held up well and I managed one good walk WN! Have a lovely time, we'll be over that way in a couple of weeks.
Eek Kj, that sounds expensive!
A friend has phoned suggesting a get together with other friends, fellow students from 55 years ago...she apologised for even mentioning such a big number! I like seeing my "old" friends but not having reminders of such very long lengths of time.

Yes.....very expensive.....not at all pleased that a local to us, and supposedly good company messed up, but no doubt far too late to complain.
Are consoling ourselves with the knowledge that they were a lot less expensive than having the dealer fit the towbar.
Bemused as to how this was not picked up before now, have rear fog lights only recently been added to MOT?
WN......we bought a 4 year service plan, which was very reasonably priced, when we first bought the car, and were happy at the time with the service received, but went elsewhere for repairs such as new discs and brake pads as there was a good saving, then decided to use them for servicing too.
Main dealer is Arnold Clark, they have mixed reviews but are conveniently local. Arnold himself is no more, but we did know him previously as his youngest daughter was in the same class at school as our daughter. He was a shrewd business man, but a very pleasant person to talk to.
Cars these days seem invariably expensive to service and maintain. The garage said the car was going very smoothly otherwise, so that is good!

Me too, Francis. As it just so happens it was fine today, after two wet ones since we got home, so I was able to get both the caravan cleaned this morning and the car this afternoon. Also managed 3/4 hr in the garden doing a bit of weeding, and finished off the afternoon with a 3 mls walk with Flyte, on which we got caught in a shower. Just chilling out now, and should sleep well tonight, hopefully.

I am going to take mine in to the Volvo dealer a week on Monday for it's 5 yr service and MOT, and hope that it won't be anywhere near as expensive as yours, Kjell. It is the final year of our service plan, so am expecting that they will find something that needs doing, brakes possibly.

An update on yesterday - we sold all our heifers and were pleased with the outcome. And the calf we were sellng for charity (R.A.B.I.) went for 550 gns - to a local breeder so we may well still see it in the future. It was a long day for those at the sale, but we managed to raise a glass or two in the evening.

Can we deduce that you don't do a lights check when you hook up the van then?

Just back from a pleasant 3 day break in Northumberland. Stayed on the C&CC site (Dunstan Hill) a mile walk from the coast and 2 miles from Dunstanburgh Castle. Considering even with a car it’s a minimum mile walk, it was surprisingly busy. They were turning folk away who hadn’t booked. On the second day we caught the bus, which stops conveniently right outside the site, a few miles south and walked back along the coast (St Oswalds Way) through Craster, with a visit to the smokery. Van now washed, refuelled and back in storage ready for the next outing. Refuelling was a bit shocking 😱 at over £80 and the tank was nowhere near empty. Unfortunately I can’t see it getting a lot cheaper.

Our car is going in to the Volvo specialist in Glasgow next week for its MOT when it was in for a service with them in June they advised that it would need new discs and pads for the MOT so it is booked to have them done also there is an issue with the windscreen that they are fixing and I have a feeling that it may need new back tyres so I’m expecting a bit of a bill next week

Our M/H is due for a full service next time, also new tyres for EV, expensive outlook! Found a local garage to fill the van on our recent trip, slightly less than the tourist routes afterwards.
Steve, we had a good stay at Dunstan Hill a few years back. Enjoyed the walk to the coast from the site and an outdoor lunch at the golf course. It's a very popular site! Enjoyed Beadnell Bay this time round.

Great fund raising Goldie👍Gorgeous calf. I like the udder photos as well, pun intended😂
Pups are looking lovely Rufs, and yes, narrow wheels on 2CV brilliant in snow👍
We are revving up now for our tour. Will be our longest trip away for some six years, so fingers crossed everything let’s us get away.🤞
I think we stayed on that Site back in the 1980’s Steve, that or Dunstan Stead’s. Great location and Dunstanburgh is one of our favourite Castles. Back in 80’s, we got there late, but custodian said if we could climb over fence, he would lock up and leave us to it! Those were the days😂 I think our Rotty squeezed through fence.
Another tour over Nellie, we will save you some SW weather. And I hope you get away ok WN👍 Regards and good weather wishes to others as well.

Hope your plans fall into place TDA. If anyone is coming down to the SW and is looking forward to a meal out etc it's a good idea to book in advance. We sat in a Devon pub this week for the one and only meal out we could find and heard the Landlord turning countless people away on the phone. Same at our local in Somerset, tea rooms and many other places too. So forewarned is forearmed! (Have I spelt those words right?! 😊)
