What are you all up to

Wherenext I shiver with you. Glad you've got it closed, not the day for keeping it even ajar ❄.
I too fling the windows wide on rising and after showering regardless of the weather. In fact ours have been ajar all the time. Last year I oiled the hinges as they'd got a little stiff, result a slight breeze and we've had some recently, pushes the 2 fanlights as wide as they'll go 😱.
Delighted to say we have a freely moving stopcock now. I was rather cheeky and asked if he had some pipe suitable for the washing machine waste, the bottom of ours had disappeared I noticed yesterday. Possibly the boiler guys knocked it and swept it up? Yes he had so that's fixed too. Only noticed because I was near the drain whilst washing machine pumping out and it sounded odd.
Yes keeping bird water defrosted is difficult but I'm managing. Some of our sparrows have returned but our birds are not getting through the quantity of food they were before Christmas despite the cold. I fear the sparrowhawk is still about.
The gritter has just gone passed again. I noticed it about 4am this morning too.

AMy husband is President of Westmorland County Agricultural Society and today should have been handing over to the President Elect. But because of the extraordinary times we live in he gets to carry on for another year . I still have clothes I bought for events to accompany him hanging in the wardrobe unworn.
The AGM was on Zoom of course and went off very well. By now we’re all used to it. We still dressed up in smart clothes - I even brushed my hair and put make up on. The last time I had my haircut was for the same event last year.
The official business is normally followed by a wonderful lunch, but of course not today. So I ordered a Valentine’s Afternoon Tea Box from a local cafe, and opened a bottle of wine.
I think we’ll be eating the leftovers for some time to come.

Took SWMBO down to the community centre this morning for her Vaccine she got the Pfizer one says so far she feels ok just a bit of a sore arm. A day for the house today it’s snowing outside I’ve just finished a book that my sister bought me for Christmas was a good book so will need to find something g else to read now. Hopefully get out a drive somewhere tomorrow.

Do you not have Borrowbox up in Scotland Francis? Like an internet library. I can usually rely on them for a download or two. Had a phone call from our local library this morning saying they have a book I asked for. It's a click and collect system, so will pick that up on Monday, ironically when doing a Tesco Click and Collect.
Snowing here as well but it's light stuff and I don't think it will last long.
Glad you got your pipes sorted Bakers. Sounds rather rude that doesn't it?😱

It's been snowing here, I stood outside in it just to remember what it feels like...but not for long! 😊
Goldie that's an impressive box of treats. We have booked our take away meal, a £10 special, mains and pudding each. The same from our pub usually costs £30 for two of us. So will it be £10 saved or wasted?

Wherenext, it beggars belief how incompetent some energy firms are. I really sympathise with you, they seem to be making a real mess of it all and now you're on a higher tariff than you were promised!!??
Even though our problem is now over 2.5 years ago, I remember it very well. Initially I did the same as you, and complained to the energy firm itself, thinking it was quite straightforward and shouldn't be difficult to resolve. But like you, the way the complaint was handled was so unprofessional, I really felt like tearing my hair out at times. Trying to get through to them on the phone was almost impossible, and when I managed it, the discussion always ended in a promise of a call back within a week with an update; and that never happened. So then I had to contact them again. In the end, after about 3 months, it was clear I wasn't getting anywhere, that's why I gave notice that I would be contacting Ofgem; I thought I'd given them enough time to sort it out and wasn't prepared to be messed around any longer.
The trouble is that it is not only very frustrating, but also very time-consuming, and as you say, not good for the blood pressure either. You tell yourself not to get wound up, but dealing with people who don't seem to either understand the problem, or don't want to, used to get me really annoyed.
Once again, good luck with it all. BTW, one thing I did all the way through was record dates/times of telephone contact, and what was said, just in case; any emails I kept in a separate file.

Ina, keeping dates times and names is second nature as it's followed on from having to deal with Insurance Companies all of my working life.😁
I've taken to copying and pasting emails before sending them now as well.
You're right about getting worked up.

Goldie that treat meal looks wonderful. I hope you can still get in the clothes 😉😉😉. Gosh you've done well for haircut! Mine grows really fast - maximum 6 weeks usually and more often 4 weekly. However, luckily/unluckily she went a bit mad with the scissors and I was well shorn 😱 the week before Christmas. I was partially relieved when Christmas meet ups were cancelled, as it wouldn't be seen! It was 5 weeks before I considered it ok. However it looks like I won't get it cut on 1st March after all........
Brue as those from certain parts of my county say 'wel jel' of you too. We didn't order our take away Sunday roast last week because of the predicted weather, was going to order for tomorrow but forgot it was Valentines so they're busy! Our sky looks full of snow too. Fingers crossed for next week.
Wherenext its nice to have my pipes fixed 🤣🤣 but I still have to replace the waterbutt connector pipe. Replacement sourced by son but its too jolly cold to tackle yet! I wish you luck with electric my friend had years of dispute with them, as she has complicated set up, seemed to be constantly on the phone or Ofgem with them. She was limited in suppliers because she had cheap overnight and day boost electric. One reason we have never swopped - my life has issues enough without adding to it.....

A very cold frosty walk from home up to the Bowes railway. It looked more forlorn than usual. Something sad about seeing gates than will never open again, points never switched, or is it just me?

I think it's probably you CS. Let's face it, you have previous.
Good photos though.Mrs WN looks at these and thinks, wow, that would make a great painting subject. Last night she was watching her favourite living artist painting a Pig Sty, with a couple of pigs in it, and enjoying the scenery, so you are not alone in your oddness.

Both successfully jabbed today, but what a contrast! I went straight in this morning, was Pfizered within 5 minutes then just had to sit in a nice warm waiting room for 15 minutes. Mrs M, this afternoon, was at the back of a huge, but fast moving, queue, got the Oxford one and was then told to go and sit in the car for 15 minutes in the freezing cold. No justice eh?

Busy day today, final coat of paint in bathroom. Once dry time to clear up and do some sealant work. Toilet roll holder still to go back on but will need to have holes re drilled.
I got an order for 3 hats, managed to do them in between helping OH. All sewn up and bobbles made just need to attach them to the hats.
I have no idea what temp was today other than flipping cold. Went out to feed the birds, that was baltic with an even colder north east wind. Decided we had done enough work we didn't need a walk. I don't mind cold but cold wind, no thanks. This winter it reminds me of the ones we had while living in north Germany

Hoping tomorrow we will have a day off and go out for a drive and walk.
WN, good news on you getting your jab tomorrow.
M, how come you got different jabs, was it different places. Poor Mrs M

Good to hear that you've both had your jabs, M.
WN, glad to read that you're to get your tomorrow. You did well getting the window closed in this weather, if it's anything like the temperature up here.
No sun to speak of today, full grey skies and an even colder and stronger wind than yesterday. Still managed our morning walk, although it was a bit shorter than yesterday. Then I took Flyte up to the sports field for a run after lunch and got back in time to see most of the England/Italy game, out again for a shorter walk round the green before dinner and the Scotland /Wales game.
Goldie, that hamper of food looks delicious, hope it tasted as good as it appears.
B2 hope that's the end to all your plumbing problems!!!

It seems I have been suffering some side effects from my vaccination.
Yesterday I was in and out of the garage, doing some cutting and sanding of wood, it was very cold and I just could not get warm at all all day. Even come bedtime I was still chilled. OH read the paperwork I got and it seems feeling chilled is a fairly common side effect.
Thankfully felt much better this morning, but still have very cold feet.
OH added a special meal to our recent Waitrose order, so tonight we had the Heston prawn starter, with salad, followed by steaks etc, then raspberry cheesecake, all washed down with a bottle of pink fizz.

Oh, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You -- delighted to discover the Gaelo/Nordic recommendation for treating c-c-cold toes, KjellNN. You could have told us that secret some time ago, sniffle, snivel sh-sh-shiver. Will Waitrose recognise the purpose of such an order as being of a Medical nature ?? Wouldn't want to be suffering cold tootsies any longer than needful, now would we

P.S. Goldie, did that gorgeous box of calories help you to keep warm toes as well please ??

She obviously has good taste 🙂 Again, if you have a mind, have a listen to this. Blackmore’s Night -‘Fires At Midnight’, headed up by Ritchie Blackmore, he of Deep Purple fame, but absolutely nothing like DP. The title track is particularly good, I think.

The constraints of my inflamed tendon has enabled me to finish off the editing of my last foray on the continent. It's only taken me twenty months to sort it out. You can't rush these things.
For those of you stir-crazy enough to need a virtual trip, my half hour video is HERE0 -
Oh it was you two who had the last bottle of pink fizz?! I did a similar order but had to have an alternative...a very nice but non fizzy Sangiovese. We didn't make a meal from our order, just ate the nice choices over a few days.

It took OH a couple of days to get over the covid jab side effects but he often reacts to vaccines so no surprises there. (The worst one was a Yellow Fever jab.)
Pouring with rain here, makes a change. 🦆

A quiet day by the fire today - at least for me. My husband still has to get up at 5:00 and milk/feed/muck out/bed etc. Then do it all again at 3 this afternoon.
No cooking - plenty of food left from our Afternoon Tea yesterday, plus leftovers from husband’s Birthday supper last Thursday (Pheasant pate and smoked duck breast).
I have gone back to some Family History - having realised I found the completely wrong person for one of my Great Grandfathers. Very common name. But I found an application by my Grandfather to join the Loyal North Lancs (Army) in 1920. I knew nothing about it, and I think it’s amazing to see his handwriting from 100 years ago.

Had my jab early this morning. Made Mrs WN feel a lot better.

However within half an hour I had a bad reaction to my kidneys. I'm used to pain in that region but for 15 minutes this was pretty excessive. It was like being gripped in a vice. It gradually eased to a dull normal ache, fortunately before Mrs WN could ring someone. Phew. As Steve said, worth it though, and I know what to expect for the second one.
Looks like we'll still be on for our May trip but depends when the youngster gets her jab.

Oh dear! It was good, so probably very popular.
We too did not have the whole menu, one side went in the freezer, the other we ate on Wednesday, so instead we had chips and tenderstem broccoli. We stocked up on freezable items, so those will keep us going for many weeks. Use by dates on the starter and dessert meant we decided to eat them yesterday.
OH always states "no substitutes" so I did not get any cereal, was looking forward to my favourite raspberry and cranberry cereal, odd thing for them not to have in stock.
I usually do not have any reaction to a vaccine, so was surprised, it sounds like more people are having a reaction to the AZ than the Pfizer one.
Still very cold here, we had a little more snow overnight.
Our son was talking to a colleague in Israel the other day, it seems over there that many people have had a worse reaction to the second dose than the first.

WN, sorry to hear you had a nasty reaction to the jab was it AZ, hope you are feeling better today.
Kj, it would appear looking at a survey I've seen that AZ does seem to give more side effects but I don't think they last long and as you say worth it to get the cover it provides. I think your body reacts much quicker to the AZ than the Pfizer one. We had a sore arm for 2 days and then it went, pretty much like the flu jab.
Dull here today and everything dripping wet as its milder, we do have some very impressive icicles hanging from the gutters.
Had a treat this morning in the back garden, a flock of Field Fares came in to feed on the cotoneasters berries. Haven't seen them in quite a few years, now I know its been cold.
Have to pop out this afternoon to deliver the hat order, wouldn't normally do that but the person who ordered them is sheilding with her husband and she hasn't had a her jab yet. Its a friend that I used to work with she wants to send them down to England to her daughter.
All bits and bobs back on the walls in the bathroom, I just have to do the door frame but that is tomorrow, day off today.

Yes it was the AZ Tammy. Feel ok now, well the aches and pains are the ones I recognise.
Never had a reaction to any jab before.Like you it's a day off, even dinner tonight is an easy fix. Nice to see the Fieldfares. We have only seen a few of them this winter.

Kj, I look out for missing items on our Waitrose order as these sometimes appear before the actual delivery day. The order flagged up the fizz was no longer available so I chose my own substitute in advance. I use substitutions too as most of the time they are OK, if not I reject them on arrival.
