Sorry you've lost your holiday WN. We're cutting short our trip and will return home from the Lakes direct. Not the best of birthdays for Mr Brue as planned but I've rebooked the cancelled site for next year on our way up to the Lakes..living in hope I think?!

Plenty of rain today..☔going to do absolutely nothing. 🐌

Tomorrow. House sitter sorted, only odd few things to go into MH now, and finish a bit of cleaning (weird but I like to have nothing to do when we arrive home, apart from put a match to stove). There’s no one in cottage before us, so had confirmation we can get in when we want tomorrow, so aiming for mid afternoon/teatime. Fingers crossed for drive, it can either be a doddle or a nightmare this one, we only do 30 mins on A1 and even that has a 50mph limit. Planned to meet up at Castle Rising, then head via Fakenham rather than round coast. It should be no more than four hours, but we have had times it’s taken six and more. I am Navigator tomorrow, responsible for keeping us moving, Sis and Mum in other car, likely to be off before us.

Another website for you to look at for at home goodies. 😋

Safe travels takethedogalobg and all those making journey's.

You are not alone in wanting a tidy and clean house when you turn the key on return from a trip, in this house that includes beds, much easier now there's just the one! Bad enough that the washing machine needs to be busy on return - don't want a bin full too 😱. Mind you I hate not leaving the house tidy if I have to pop out.

Dora seems to be recovering well from her lady op, in fact rather lively today so will need a good run once she's allowed. We did manage an hour and half before 0900 on Monday when she went in!

Much warmer here, thank goodness! A bit bright and we've done some garden tidying, restricted as both brown bins at capacity - but squeezed in few more bits as they get emptied tomorrow. Just having lunch in the garden and the sun has broken through for a few minutes and its still got some power which is wonderful, so restorative.

Feeling restless, despite gardening which is usually calming, long to do something but no idea what 🤣. Friend was suppose to visit this afternoon but cancelled late Monday as they have a cold - very grateful but disappointed. Can't take ourselves off anyway as Dora has to rest 🤣🤣 so walking far is out and gardening has exhausted OH, besides rain forecast in next hour so by the time I've showered.......

Need some bits in town so might do that just odds and bobs but folk tell me uni is back and large non distancing groups everywhere 😡. So its dodgem and weaving. A trip in is exhausting these days without that added extra. Maybe later in the day it will be better? Folks says its busy by 0930 and gets worse. Sadly I need to add to my stock of cards, sympathy ones 😪 and dog treats. I often liked looking a folks shopping at the tills to see what combinations they had. Almost as good as people watching 🤣. I also need some new footwear, just in case I get to go somewhere that requires smart - I have new trousers, thought I'd better join in the slimmer fitting, but culled ankle boots 👢  early in the lockdown.  Impossible to buy without trying when you have foot issues. Hopefully John Lewis and M&S, have seen some online for both won't be on students list? Years ago it was hard to put a pin between shoe shoes in our town, now its hard to find a proper shoe shop. There's a great one for school shoes and very comfy - not necessarily good-looking adult ones on an estate parade but they're closed today. See proper old fashioned family run shoe shop. Our daughter always wanted to have a shoe shop with boxes stacked to the ceiling and ladders. She teaches instead 🤣.

Right that's made my mind up. Shower, walk into shops and spend spend spend. Never have we spent less and never have interest rates been so low 😡

Enjoy your day and stay safe folks.

Hope Dora makes a good recovery B2, our little dog had only just been neutered a week before we had her but she did well. In fact she hit the peaks of puppy liveliness soon afterwards! 🐕

Cards are a bit of problem for us as the local shop at home has a very unappealing selection so I've been using on line card sales like M**np*g. Our daughter does print making along with her teaching so she has cards printed up but I can't keep sending the same cards to all (she's got a website with Jackson's the art suppliers.) I like Downtoearth cards on line.

Have a lovely holiday TDA and family, looks like the weather is blowing over soon.

    Still raining here...

Arrived home this afternoon, a day early.

On making the bed up in the van this morning I noticed a bit of damp on the wheel arch under the bed. It had been raining all night and was still tipping down. Looks like we have a little leak, OH thinks it must be from the newly installed satellite dish. The cable on the roof comes in just above that area so probably not sealed properlyyell

Can't get a hold of the fitter just now but he will be getting the van back asap

Decided to come home early as the rain was set to continue so didn't see the point in staying put.

The knee isn't to bad today as long as I remember not to kneel on it, the top of my right arm is sore though so I must have pulled it when I came off. Thanks WN and TTDA, for your concern.

Sorry to hear about your holiday WN, totally agree its crazy that folk can travel to your area but you can't leave.

Watching the BBC today the amount of folk not isolating on return from overseas trips even though they know they should is unbelievable.

Well that's gone t***s up! Decided to take car and park nearer town so don't have to carry shopping so far. Luckily a residential road so not stuck in a carpark!

Quite successful shopping trip, but of course couldn't try on boots - although M&S did have my size in and I do like the look of them and I think.they will accommodate my quirky feet. Also picked up 3 pairs of trousers as you do! Cards purchased too. John Lewis didn't have ones I liked in. Purchased a string of pumpkin and a couple of pumpkin lanterns with lights in Tiger as this year parents will provide sweets as kids go out and spot pumpkins. Guides also doing similar. Back to car as the rain starts. Great timing thinks me.

Well it was weatherwise! Shopping stowed, I hop into drivers seat depress clutch push start button everything flashes on dashboard and blindspot on mirrors. System fault, chassis fault,.  Phone breakdown folk lady asks for fault so I try again start stop failed now too 😱😡 . Hopefully here within 90 mins. Luckily I have water, mints and dog treats. Wouldn't mind but car probably just weeks out of warranty if it was 2 years and I can't remember if it was 2 or 3. Suspect former but ill get OH to check now I think about it.

Really raining hard now so will sit it out.

Quite understand what you Ladies are on about when talking about leaving a clean house,  etcetera.smile

Went up to aged sister's residence this morning, 'cos I was at Opticians to get new specs ( £££££ !! ) and Diabetic Retinopathy yesterday so no driving for A B M embarassed.

On arrival opened door & announced my presence, quite loudly. Went in & found a hairdresser merrily snipping away . Fifteen mins later all the snipper's bits were tidied away in her bag and away she went. Sister got out her lightweight vac  & whizzed around like a blooming dervish to my utter disgust 'cos I was waiting for my usual coffee as well as knowing her cleaners would be arriving shortly after I left. Suppose I should be pleased the Old Girl still has some standards laughing but really ,, ,, ,, ,, ,,

    P.S. / EDIT

Glad to hear you've got a knight in shining overalls on his way, B2  Good luck with your Warranty / Memory

Bakers - hope you're sorted speedily and hope Dora will recover quickly from her lady op!

I am in Big Big Trouble this evening (capitals intended! surprised) It had been raining all morning so we decide to stay in, catch up on a bit of reading and have lunch in the cottage. Had to go down to the village after lunch to post a friend's 70th birthday card so, as it was looking slightly brighter I suggested we took the dogs and walked from there. All went well for about 15 minutes, then it started raining again, "just light stuff, nothing to worry about" (I said), " let's keep going". And sure enough within a little while it was hammering down and we could hardly see where we were going, let alone any views. Mrs M was not happy and I'll spare everyone's blushes by resisting the urge to reproduce her comments here! yell To cap it all the only "out" was to walk down a main road back into Exford. frown

I've got a lot of making up to do! laughing

TG, sorry you had to leave early but don't blame you in this rain...hope the leak gets sorted.

Glad your break is improving David. OH shouted like a fog horn in his sleep last night, you'll be glad you're not near us!

Had to smile about the cleaning tales...my Mum used to  have a cleaner when she was working, pandemonium before she arrived, to get the house tidied up! 🙀

Well my Knight in shining overalls, thanks ABM, sums it up well. Arrived very promptly. Unfortunately he had to park his truck in an adjacent road as insufficient space to turn into the road. Flat battery diagnosed within seconds. 11 volts apparently when he checked after walking back to get jump leads and power pack. Started incredibly quickly. Suggested a 20 minute drive before parking up. Just before 6pm called in at home to use the facilities 😉 and see if OH and dog wished to join me. No. Luckily I'd prepared shepherd's pie  so OH warmed it up and did veg while I took car for a spin. Drove up the A12 and was approaching Brentwood exit where I proposed to go off and come back down the other side.thought flashed through my head 😱 even less traffic coming out of London than before, and that wasn't much. Literally next second saw why - stationary traffic and a car sideways across 2 lanes and people walking about - so came back on the old roman road.

Thanks for your kind thoughts folks. Glad I didn't need a tow or lift as I can't imagine how that would have been achieved! Fantastic service from Britania as we've always had on the very odd occasion we've had to use them. Possibly 5 times in 42 years, so we don't push our luck.

Tammygirl good to hear your only bruised, shame about the leak and curtailing your break.

Brue hope you have a quieter night tonight!

Mosley 😱😱😱😱 I hope you manage to make amends!

Off to try on my shopping and doubtless a trip back to town to return some bits. Hopefully battery should be covered by warranty according to knight in shining overalls.

    Enjoy your evening folks.

I learned long ago to never trust a male who knows a little walk and a short cut, and that “it will brighten up”😁 I require bribing nowadays.

Some adventures going on today, hope you sorted Bakers, so annoying.

We are all packed. Only dog walk and valuables to do in morning then off.  We don’t even have to shunt our vehicles around as kind neighbour said put Jeep on his drive, to save us time in morning.

Must say I'm impressed with the travel company that we booked the cottage through.

Read their website which was concise but explained everything I needed to know. Basically they would contact us if we couldn't travel due to a local lockdown. By 10.30 this morning they had, asked us whether we wanted a voucher or full refund, which we want, and promised funds returned within the week. No ifs, no buts, no quibble.

Moulesy, you really, really should know better. Happy days eh!embarassed

When you said you'd got to cancel 😪😪 i wondered if we could enquire if we could use the booking. But I checked our diary for next week 😱, how did that get something on the calendar every day?

So delighted that you've had no issues with cancellation.  Let's hope you can manage something for MIL. I fear we are all in for a long winter - after an long year.........

Takethedogalong all sounds very good fingers crossed.

Just catching up. Sorry to hear of both the fall and having to hear home early, TG. Hope you're feeling less sore tomorrow and that you get the leak sorted. Bet you're glad that you found out reasonably close to home not when you were a long distance from home.

Glad to hear that your recovery service was fast and efficient, B2, and that it was just a low battery and nothing more serious..Hope Dora soon gets over her op.

Your travel company certainly's come up trumps, WN. There will be plenty of opportunity for a cottage break next year, all being well.

Enjoy your trip away, tda. Hope there's no more restrictions applied while you're down in Norfolk.

M, sorry to hear of your soaking. We too were out in the rain today, but fortunately we had our brollies with us and although it poured down there was no wind so we didn't get very wet. We parked above Crieff Hydro and walked up onto the Knoll.

Think I've missed a few posts from others that are away. Fingers crossed that all is going well, especially now the neighbouring dogs have departed.

Sounds like the same promise on our cottage WN, which is why I felt covered to book. The very nice sounding owner got in touch as well yesterday to provide lots more information for us, so we are very lucky. I am so sorry your trip is off, but hopefully you can all sort something maybe closer to home if cases ease off a bit around your preferred area.

Keep safe all those out there, enjoy as much as you can.😁

Gosh what a busy day yesterday! So sorry to hear about the trouble with your car Bakers2 but pleased to hear that you Knight in Shining Armour (or rather overalls) arrived swiftly and was able to sort the problem. I am sure you could have done without it though on what was supposed to be a quick shopping trip Hopefully you will get a new battery under warranty.

Sorry to hear about your fall TG. I hope you are not too stiff and sore. Sorry also that you have had to curtail your trip. Hope you get the leak sorted ut.

Brue sorry to hear that you also are curtailing your trip. Isn't life difficult at the moment.  I am pleased you managed to see your family though even if it was a brief visit.

So sorry about your cancelled holiday WN. Your MIL must be so disappointed.  Hopefully you can arrange another holiday for her before too long.  Pleased to hear about the good service from the holiday company. It's good know that there are some good guys out there.

Moulesy, I am really surprised that your OH went along with your ascertains that the weather was going to be OK and that the rain wouldn't be too bad! I now never believe OH when we says he knows a good short cut or that the weather will be fine!  I have learnt through bitter experience!

TDA I hope you all have a lovely time in Norfolk and that the weather is kind to you.

I did my practice guided tour of the Cathedral yesterday with a 'willing' group of Cathedral volunteers and the Education Manager.  I think it went OK. The Education Manager was very encouraging and and we had a very constructive chat afterwards. OH came along as well as 'Joe Bloggs' from the general public and said he enjoyed it - he knows what to say laughing. I am to be let loose on the general public in a couple of weeks surprised

Milliehull congratulations on doing well. I'm sure you'll make a lovely guide.

Battery under warranty tomorrow, recall for grommets  on childlock on backdoors. Had to use my powers of persuasion for an on the spot job! Have to do the grand dog handover at lunchtime time. No good with courtesy car as no animals........

Shopping trip mixed results, boots and casual trousers ok but walked into M&S to swop the more formal trousers for another size. Not tried them yet.

Photo of Dora's wound to vet this morning and telephone consultation. All going well, can do a 10 minute lead walk twice a day now. She certainly has recovered from the anesthesia now and is finding mischief 😱. Brue I read that part of your post with a sinking heart!

Very wet and windy overnight but nice now and towels drying nicely on the line.

Off to get late lunch, Dora too.

MH into dealers this morning, its not as we first suspected the satellite dish its the window seal. They can't look at it until Tuesday as they have to leave it for 3 days (covid) and they are on holiday Monday but they are putting it under cover to prevent more rain getting in ( once they realised it was a warranty claim)

Sun has at long last come out. Need to go shopping this afternoon once I've been to my appointment. Washing machine on 2 lots done 1 to go. Then to decide if and when we are going away again, hoping to go south with the caravan but weather not looking great.

Glad you booking company did the right thing WN.

We need to decide what to do about one of our ferry crossings, tempted to take the hit on losing the deposit. Its either that or move it again, this time to next year. Might give BF a call to discuss options.

Glad the car got sorted ok Bakers

    Well done Millie.

I think I've been forgiven for yesterday's transgression! wink

We drove over Winsford Hill to Dulverton this morning, looking very grey and unpromising all the way over, but by the time we got there it was dry  (just as I told Mrs M it would be! surprised) so we got a good walk in before lunch at the Bridge Inn, which those of you who have stayed at Exmoor House probably know well. I'd emailed to reserve a table (no phone signal in the cottage) but they were fully booked anyway so we had to sit outside (fortunately it stayed dry) so a very pleasant hour or so. Had to force a smile at a notice in one to the gift shops - "if at first you don't succeed, try doing it the way your wife told you to in the first place" - quite appropriate I suppose. laughing

We've decided to pack up and go home this evening as the weather forecast for tomorrow is grim and we'd have to be out by 10 anyway. It's been a really nice break and if anyone is looking for a cottage on Exmoor we can really recommend Riscombe Farm just outside Exford - new owners took over at the start of the year and have had a difficult time so far with the lockdown - they have 4 cottages of different sizes and if the others are as comfortable and well equipped as this one is they deserve to do well. 👍

We went into town quite early this morning. It is usually quiet on a Thursday and especially so today.

Main reason was to return the maps I had borrowed from the library. There was no-one else in apart from the 2 Librarians and we were invited to browse the shelves. First time we have been able to do this so we made full use of our time. 8 books later and we were on our way.

Took Mrs WN to doctors this afternoon. She was most impressed with precautions taken.

Glad the trainee guide passed her test.👏

Moulesy, thanks for recommendation. Will take a look.

Well! That's another year over, but I don't feel any different.😁 Started off rather dull, but had to get some washing done, but had to leave it hanging up in the van. Drove to Tesco at Perth to fill up and get a few provisions and then onto Newton Bridge on the Aberfeldy road for a walk up Glen Almond. Called in to view Chapel and Old Library at Innerpeffrey on way back to the van. Our last night here before heading further north.

Well done millie, you must be very proud of your achievements.

Glad Mrs WN's appointment went well.

Hope that you get the leak sorted, TG, and can get away again soon.

Pleased it hear the Dora is fine after her op, and you are able to get her out for a short walk now, B2.
