Rain has just started here,  big spots, very grey out now.  Hopefully it will clear the air

I reckon I have finished tidying my room, OH even had me remove all the interesting stuff lurking under my desk, dust it all off and put most of it in cupboards.  She keeps finding space in cupboards!

Vacuumed the floor too, but have just noticed I have left behind some stuff that was to go in the loft, that will have to wait till later.  I have a feeling there will be an inspection this evening and OH will no doubt find more things I have missed!

She has already pointed out that I have not taken out the recycling and other rubbish.   🙁

I was supposed to be retiring  today as well as being my Birthday. delayed (retirement not Birthday!) for at least another 18months.

so we went for a drive out to Dorchester thinking it would be quiet for a bit of shopping, we weren't wrong there was no queueing. although when we drove back through Weymouth there were queues at every shop so we had made the right decision.

Not all shops open but enough to have a wonder around, all shops have 2m markings, sanitising stations inside and out and friendly staff to explain the shops routine ie no trying on clothes try not to touch things and the return period has been extended etc although one shop said you could book an appointment during the first half hour of trading for test fitting etc.

I was hoping to get something nice to mark the day, OH got a new cardigan (it was a bit damp and chilly out for the summer dress she was wearing) and 5 books, all I managed was a 50p bottle of coke zero! they had run out of Cornish pasties so even that was a fail!

having not been to Dorchester for a while, I was disappointed to find that all on street parking is now on a meter and the only payment method is over a phone for which they charge a premium. I decided I wasn't going to use this system as it is another concern over who I am giving my card details to and why are they charging extra to use this service? so found a parking spot a little out of the way.

its no wonder the town was quiet if others think the same as me

Happy Birthday RJ. Mine on Sunday.smile Big one as well, although I count them all as big.

MrsWN has promised me a special meal to celebrate. I know because she specifically asked me what I wanted to cook. Oh well, I convince myself it's for self preservation.

We're still stuck at 5 miles and no shops (those open on Monday) so nothing big planned.

Hope you have a nice tipple tonight to celebrate.

It’s our Golden Wedding Anniversary tomorrow.  Where did 50 years go?!! We are celebrating with a Champagne afternoon tea during a Zoom chat with family in Hertfordshire and my sister and brother in law in Scotland. Never done Zoom, neither has my sister so should be interesting.  I’m sure our grandchildren in Hertfordshire will sort us out! 😂

The day started out quite nice, bit damp after last nights rain but it soon turned dry and sunny.

OH decided to give the Kuga a really good valet inside.

I finally managed to finish all the orders I had for face masks. smile I still have some material and elastic left so will make some more and offer them on the village FB page.

Priority now is to get things sorted out to go away. We can't be away for long as I have plants in the garden that will need attention and pots and baskets this year that I haven't done in years. I think it will be lots of short trips within Scotland. The schools up here go back August 11th so hopefully the sites/CL's will be quieter from then on.

NTH,  thanks for the info the book and Cruden Bay, I've taken note and will try and get it to read.

    Happy birthday RJ

Could be an interesting night to night, our next door neighbours have friends round to stay. They unpacked the car (tents, sleeping bags etc.) so far they have had a BBQ in the garden. No sign of the tents going up and the rain has started. The women are sat out under a big sun parasol the dogs running around the garden and the 5 children and the dad's are nowhere to be seen surprised yes that means there are 9 of them. Tut tut only allowed 8 in a group and they are not allowed to go indoors other than to use the bathroom.

Some folk just think they are above the advice and rules, what can you do but keep your own distance. Can't wait for the sites to open so we can get away.

Happy birthdays and anniversaries to all that are having them this week and over the weekend. Hope you all have a super time regardless of the lockdown.

TG the book is the latest in a long interconnected series, but can be read as a stand alone, although one might get a bit confused with some of the references in it. I can recommend the whole series but I seem to remember that others on here thought that some were a bit gruesome.

Mixed day weather wise again. Fine this morning followed by periods of rain, one which caught Flyte and I out about 3/4 mils from home, but fortunately I'd taken a small brolly with me so didn't get too wet. It could be a case of wet weather gear in a shot while though, looking out of the window.

It was our Wedding Anniversary this week as well. We only do something for the big dates nowadays, so nothing special planned.

Couple of nice walks today, half hour for me seeing Mum and Sis, still at a distance. All fine. Then home and some ice cream making! We have plans to see our close friends tomorrow, haven’t seen them since February, so hoping it stays fine as we are going to meet in their big garden. Be so good to see them and have a proper chat.

Happy birthdays and anniversaries to everyone. Strange times but hope you all can enjoy  your celebrations. It is OH's birthday on Tuesday. I hope the forecast for good weather is right so the family can come and see him in the garden at a social distance ( but not all at the same time). He will be 83, where have the years gone!!! (I was a child bride so much younger 😁). I have ordered a meal to be delivered from Cote Brasserie. Eldest son rang on WhatsApp  this evening. So lovely to be able to see him. Modern technology is wonderful.

I think I read somewhere that the 'solstice' to be exact is at 10:35 or  something this morning  so I will be thinking of nights drawing in, Malcolm M and his lady,  and  others out there like a certain footy fan from  somewhere in the East Midlands .  Very Best Wishes to them all .

Happy belated birthday(s) and happy in anticipation birthday(s)!

Wherenext you share your day with my dear late dad. My grandmother produced his elder brother on the shortest day, then her next, dad arrived on the longest. The other 5 didn't have such special dates!

Happy anniversary to those celebrating and congratulations on 50 years 😲 and never a cross word 😉. My beloved aunt and only remaining godparent celebrates her 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday. I was a bridesmaid and I clearly remember the excitement of her having a request on the radio and they played I'm getting married in the morning. I also remember tripping over, on my nan's path, in wedding bridesmaid dress - luckily knee length and having a large graze. It's still there but much smaller in relation to my knee size theses days.

Rather warm and muggy here. With the odd large spot of rain so must grab the washing in shortly. Just cleaned through the house not given it much attention recently but then no one can come in and judge me anyway!

All block paving sanded and looking good,  but it's a bit like walking on a beach with the stuff sticking to your shoes or feet. Garden still 'different' which means no grass cutting, as they're coming on Monday, weather permitting, to seal it. Not had that before but am assured the weeds won't grow in the joins HURRAH and it will wash down and look like new. Can't remember if I said got caught out Friday,  guys reckoned they'd be here mid morning. So after letting puppy out at 5am I dossed on the conservatory sofa puppy on the floor. I heard my phone vibrate, thought oh daughter, checked it was the guys on our way 😲 0755 texted I'd get up! Equilibrium upset all day! Asked for eta for Monday so won't get caught again!

    Enjoy your day folks

Edit forgot to say I will be at the dentist for my appointment Tuesday,  be glad to get my sensitive tooth looked at.

I can also endorse nelliethehooker recommendation of the Logan McCrae books. They can be gory but didn't upset me as it was in context - nasty world some folk inhabit! All can be read alone but the interplay between the officer's is something that runs through the series. I'm hoping there'll be another along soon!

I don't do horror or similar usually but worth it for these.

Oh brue how lovely to read your post. Brought back some lovely memories of my dad singing that song. He had a beautiful voice. I'd forgotten that one!

Enjoy your soup. Do you just use Carrots?

I had veg soup for lunch from the freezer dated Jan tasted good, no idea on the actual contents!

Sun's out here now pups undress my chair in the garden chewing legit stuff I think. She's off her food but up for tra8ning treats.  No flies on her! Cooking he some chicken just in case 😉

I remember singing the song on childhood coach trips. wink

The carrot soup is very easy, carrots, onion, potato, coriander and stock. A basic BBC recipe I looked up, just whizz it with a bamex type whizzer. smilesmile

It’s been a hectic and expensive couple of days here. Got the Volvo back yesterday from the specialist who has done an excellent job that’s a new timing belt and a full extensive service carried out and a few other issues fixed such as creaking suspension, noisy exhaust, brake issues and a few other bits and pieces quite a large bill but they have done an excellent job drove it home from Glasgow last night and it felt brand new. It was a lot of money to spend in a 10 year old car but we like it and have no intention of getting rid of it as it is an excellent tow car and all round very practical and so far reliable plus Volvo no longer make the V70 mode so wouldn’t be able to replace it like for like. Hopefully that is us all sorted for the sites opening and we can get the van hooked on and go and relax after a stressful six months or so that we have had.

Nice and sunny and warm here today so I moved the caravan out and we emptied it and gave it a good spring clean and clears some things out that we don’t need to take anymore. Decided while it was out to give it a quick clean its amazing how much dust gathers on it when it is just sitting I think it is because we are only about 500 meters from the sea. Narrowly avoided a disaster when putting it away put the mover on and started moving it but got a terrible grinding noise at first though it was the jockey wheel but no careless me has forgot to put one of the front steadies up luckily it looks like there is no damage and luckily only moved it a few feet before I noticed but that could have bee. An expensive repair anyway it’s back in its space now ready to roll as soon as we can. SWMBO is away out a walk with daughter and granddaughter so I’m having a nice relaxing time sitting in the conservatory catching up on a pile of Practical Caravan Mags I have sitting. Plan is to cook on the BBQ tonight so long as it’s still warm later on.

hope everyone else has had a nice day and congrats to those with birthdays and special occasions

If it's any comfort you would have probably spent far more on replacing your car than actually have the repairs done.

Congrats to all those with birthdays and anniversaries.

Its been a nice day here, sunny with clouds, warm but not hot with a light breeze.

Both cars got a good wash today and I did the inside of the Toyota.

We've decided to sell the Kuga as we don't need 2 big tow cars. The Toyota is the newer one and the one we can get everything in ( bikes and washing machine) when going away for longer breaks, and still have room left over for the wine on the way back laughing OH checked out 'we buy any car' but they are having a laugh at what they offered, so told them to go ---------surprised

Apart from cleaning the inside of the Toyota I've mainly just pottered today. Can't seem to settle to anything much. House needs a good going through but I don't feel in the mood so it can wait.

Our neighbours friends, ended up spending the night in the house with them and not in the garden camping as had been planned.

Thankfully they were nice and quiet, no sitting out until 1am playing music and making lots of noise talking over the music. That could happen next weekend when its the little girls 4th birthday.

They are only supposed to have no more than 8 people in a group at any one time and shouldn't have more than 2 different households visit on any one day but hey rules don't apply to them yell

Wish the sites were open frown we usually go away when we know they are having a party, can't do that this year.

Must go and see what delights we are having for dinner tonight.

    Have a good weekend all.

Just out of interest there is some truth in carrots helping to see in the dark as there is a vitamin in them (forgot which) that helps the body synthesise another substance (forgot again) that helps your eyes with low light.

But the idea came about in world war two when the RAF to deceive and explain said how a famous night fighter pilot called John 'Cat's Eyes' Cunningham notched up such a good score, they said he ate lot of  carrots, when in effect it was the use of (then secret) airborne interception radar. The government then used it to get people to eat and grow more vegetables, especially carrots.

Bet you wish you never posted now Brue, sorry.

Firstly Congratulations and Happy Birthday to all celebrating.

I have had a busy and quite stressful week at work, so needed to get outdoors today, we took the dog for a lovely walk in some local woods. Then called round to visit a friend, caught up with all his news sitting out in the back garden, luckily we only a one short rain shower which didn't spoil the afternoon.

Oneputt, saw the photo of Mrs Ones masks, loved the Hedgehog material. 🦔
