I was wondering what was happening Moulesy but didn't like to intrude. Hope it turns out ok for your Dad.

Busy day. Stripped the shower of the sealant this morning having dried it out with a hairdryer first. Then prepared dinner tonight by making some fish fingers, having lightly oven baked some breadcrumbs first, then after lunch finished the job in the shower room by resealing. The old stuff really didn't want to come off so I'll have a little bit of grouting to fill in tomorrow. Then it's onto MiLs shower which also needs doing.

    My knees are complaining.yell

    TammyG  / Bakers 2  etc,

Thank you ladies for the admissions  !!  Never again will we males have to stand speechless when you have little digs at us and our " must save them, they'll come in handy ( eventually ) places" like garages, sheds, man-tins etc etc smile. All because we now have it in PRINT !! that you save enough bits of cloth, buttons  and so on and so forth to "Mask up" half the NHS  when not converting granny's nighties into Sunday Best blouses  and all with MoP buttons you scamps wink

So with this evidence to hand I will head for a light evening meal and prepare for 8:00 tonight  --  BE THERE  !!

Started out fine this morning so I painted the front fence.

OH played with the new bikes laughing tried them folded up in both cars to see what space they take up and what room we have left for other things. They fit fine in both cars with room for the rest of camping items as well smile

The weather turned around lunchtime and became chilly and dull. So this afternoon I finally tackled the mountain of ironing we had.

After the ironing I had a nice long chat with my friend, we worked together for 18 years and both of us can' talk the hind leg off a donkey' laughing only managed 30 mins today as her phone's rechargeable battery cut out on her.

Nice chat with my sister followed, she gave me her recipe for Madeira cake, so I'm going to give that a try next time I bake, we've had 2 banana loaves in the past week, my excuse is they have fruit in them so it must be ok. laughing

Hope tomorrow is a good day as we want to give the bikes a good try out. Fingers crossed.

Hope that the test turns out negative, M, fingers crossed.

Another sunny and warm start to the day. Our morning walk took us past an Abbey today and back along side the old Abbey Mill stream, where Flyte had a cooling dip. Went out on my bike after lunch just as it was beginning to cloud up. There were a few light spots of rain as I was heading home, and we had a short heavy shower about 10 mins after getting back. It only lasted a short while and the the sun came out and it was warmer than ever.

Another then and now. Then was South Pelaw junction where rails from the east would divide before meeting up again a few miles on at Annfield Plain, and notice the colliery in the background. It was always busy and hence the almost strange silence in today's picture where bikes have replaced the sound of the steam trains.

We had our usual NHS street gathering tonight and had a surprise serenade from a couple of musicians who live here. It looks like some of us will meet outside tomorrow for the VE Day toast. I printed off some of the VE Day "thankyou" posters and went out in the twilight later to pin them to the telegraph poles. The village is covered in flags and bunting. I was thinking of my parents and in laws as I did this, I'm sure they'd have enjoyed seeing the celebrations even in these present conditions. smile

Thanks JV, we got 2 bags with the bikes, along with 2 sets of pannier bags, really good deal from AS bikes.

The bags are great, as you say saves scratching the car and if the bikes are wet or dirty keeps the mess off the car.

Not a happy lot of clappers tonight.

One of our neighbours said that he had lost a long time friend only last week to the virus and we heard that the ambulance seen in the close just before 7pm was to take an elderly neighbour and dear friend of ours away with a broken hip.

I'll be thinking of my Uncle tomorrow. He was part of the landing in Sicily in '44 and saw the action all the way through to '45. It affected him greatly for quite a while when he returned. Also be remembering my father, who was injured in '66 when abroad with the services.

Well my bum has recovered sufficiently from Tuesday's bike ride to Newcastle that I'm about to set out again today.

Hubby has been called back offshore for a week (he's gutted as he's one of the very few that haven't been furloughed) so going out with daughter instead. Think we'll do a nice leisurely ride down to Bede's world in Jarrow along the river Don.

    Happy VE day everyone 😊

Son and grandson are tackling the cycle routes north of the Tyne, they've done the coastal one out to Seaton Sluice and Seaton Delaval. Heading further north each day...I think they could soon link up with the John O'Groats run?! wink

Hubby is an experienced cyclist, having completed the c2c etc. He's always trying to persuade me to do an event with him. Do your son and grandson know about The Great North Bike Ride? It's usually on the sunday before the bh at the end of August. It's around 50 something miles I think from Seahouses to Tynemouth and thus far I've avoided it (other than having to drive him to seahouses at some ungodly hour on the sunday)....can't imagine it going ahead this year (phew!) but one to look out for in future?😊

We did the coast up from Old Hartley on our bikes, very interesting, and very good dedicated cycle paths for a good bit of it. OH has done a lot of cycling in Northumberland, especially further North, stunning scenery.   We have been up in Borders cycling last two years at some point. Went for a Tour of Britain last year.

Not been up to a lot today, did manage to get another coat of paint on the front fence though. Then we had a rain shower frown sun came out for about 5 mins then back to dark clouds. Every time I think its cleared and get ready to go out it rains again yell would someone please tell the weather that its MAY not April.

Can't seem to get doing anything inside ,so I did a bit more of my jigsaw. Crocheted some more of the headbands to wear with face masks and surfed the internet.

Hope tomorrow is better than today.

What a climate we have......it’s been 26c at times here in our garden, too hot for me at times. We are getting a bit of cloud now, so out to do more weeding.....

I am finding myself measuring time in a totally different way. It used to be all about how many days at certain sites, or days before next holiday. Now it’s all about “that’s another tube of toothpaste empty, or crikey, another flea treatment for the dog, or which plants are due out next” 🤣🤪

Glorious here again today. I can't recall such blue sky's for such an extended period maybe its the planes and traffic that cause the cloud in our area?

Washed nets and cleaned windows this morning, 1st time washing the new nets and got the bays, up and down, and the bathroom ones confused! Never had that problem before, all now labelled ready for next time. Buts that's cos all the previous ones were adapted ready mades!

Realised I'd done nothing for VE 75, no material for bunting, no coloured pencils, laptop doesn't talk to the internet, tablet doesn't talk to the printer! Brain wave, just have them once or twice a year 🤪. Red and white  geraniums ready for parents grave, blue forget me nots. Forget me not on their way out but a big bunch in a vase did the job. Young boys across the road gave me some of their coloured Union Jack's, so good looking window, after all. All outside at 11am for the silence, back out for afternoon tea at 4pm. Sadly our immediate neighbours didn't so we felt like Billy no mates so back garden again now. Anyway full sun at the front, some sitting in the shade if their Van's 😯. Head in the shade legs in the sun now in the back garden. Even dressed in my posh frock red white and blue 😀. Sadly it won't be going to my niece's wedding as expected at the end if the month 😢.

Brue you're gathering sounds like great fun, we live in a through road and you're lucky if the drivers stick to 30 let alone our 20mph 😤

Making the most of the weather before the chill comes down from the north!

Had some better news today, OH's cousin who was rushed to hospital on Monday, bleed on the brain only early 50's, doing ok and hopefully won't need invasive surgery. It's in his family's genes....... So fingers crossed.

Had some YouTube of our new addition to watch - hard to tell them apart as they will hide their collars and only one little girl has more white in her face than the others! We have already picked our 1st 2 preferences, but would be happy with any of the girls. Just 13 days until they can leave mum. Will we be able to collect? Will son be able to collect and deliver? Or will she be collected by son and have to have B&B with them until one of us can travel? Torn as if it's the latter it could come potty and basically trained 🤣🤣. Am I the only one not in a rush for loosening? We'll be happy with whichever we get, all very odd in lockdown 😉, breeder says they are taking more of her time because they're not having the visitors to the house as would usually be the case so it's down to her to handle often. Luckily they have son DIL and their toddler so plenty of domestic noise 😂

Not in their finished position, but on the kitchen work top, but light all wrong to photograph in the window! But here's an idea of finished look. Note the dazzling nets and windows. Shows better with the net up than without 😂

Got up early this morning to rummage around in the loft (OH wasn't impressed)

then had a rummage around in the shed to find my tripod and portable aerial mast.

rigged a flag staff in my front garden then at 0800 (colours) piped the 'still' and raised the Jack. then the 'carry on' a few curtains twitched as the neighbours wondered what was going on!

then tonight I will do the same at 'sunset' with the addition of a toast to the fallen.

spent most of the afternoon mowing/weeding the back garden, my arms and back are aching now.

We have put out three large flags up on our deck the union flag the saltire and one we got with a depiction of a soldier walking across the poppy field. watched Prince Charles on the TV this morning at the war memorial at Balmoral. 75 years such a shame the planned celebrations weren’t able to go ahead.
