Quite frosty this morning when on our first walk

we met another new puppy, owners did not realise they were still required to "pick up" gave them a bag "where do we put it?" was their next question
Grounds man at cricket club has got pitches into great shape, will not want the season to start?
Found out that local Bakery is selling flour and yeast ,as they cannot keep up with demand for their own

Had an early start this morning. Mrs WN doesn't normally do these but she wanted to get her shopping experience at Tesco out of the way before it became busy. After our delivery last night we only wanted fresh food so 15 minutes later we were on the way home. Much better than a 45 minute shop.
No walk yet as Mrs wanted to clear a border before some new plants go in and I ventured into the wood just behind the house to cut back some sycamores that had started to encroach. We also cleared away a patch of ivy that was killing one of our Holly trees.
Found out today that our Welsh Government have written to additional 21,000 people they consider vulnerable. These seem to have been referred to them by local GPs. I noticed that for the first time, yes first time, that people on Dialysis were now counted as Vulnerable! What were they deemed to be up until now? Dialysis means your kidneys have basically failed. Also some people who are recovering from certain cancers, liver damage, heart disease etc. I'm just astounded that these people weren't included in the first place. It's no wonder I didn't qualify. I'm deemed to be brimming with health. Actually when I see who they haven't sent letters to then I am, and grateful for it.
So these people will now be able to access priority slots for food and free food drops etc. They also sent 13,000 letters out originally to the wrong addresses. I can't exactly say that this government has covered itself in glory.

Thought today I'd try finding some famous film locations in the north east.
Many of you will recognise this as the place where the Village People filmed their video.

Another then and now photographs, first is a NCB loco crossing Caroline street in Hetton-le-Hole, note no level crossing. The Caroline pub is now a butcher's shop as the pub closed down only a few years ago. As usual on my travels I got talking to a local who remembered the trains crossings there many times a day

More great pics CS. Most of our old buildings have been modernised beyond recognition, Of course there is always ships to look at on our walks.
Another lovely sunny day here, just wish the Easterly wind would disappear. Had 2 walks today, both on the normal route to the beach. This afternoons walk I called in at Morrison’s on the way home. Got everything ng we needed including more self raising flour

What glorious weather today. A chilly start but a lovely sunny, warm afternoon with no wind. Daughter gave us some details of a local guy who is selling plants from his greenhouses in his garden as his usual outlet has been closed during lock-down. As he is only a few minutes from us we decided to pay him a visit wearing our face masks and gloves. What a treasure trove. We came home with lots of very healthy plants at a very reasonable price. Very happy
We are not going to plant them out just yet though in view of the dire weather forecast from Sunday for a few days so they are sitting in our greenhouse. Whilst we were out we collected a prescription for our elderly cat's arthritis. We ordered over the phone and then when we arrived at the vets we had to phone from our car and the vet came out to us wearing mask and gloves. A big outing for us as we hadn't been out since 14th March! This evening we are going to watch The Repair Shop followed by the Great British Sewing Bee. My Mum was a seamstress and worked for many years in dressmaking workshops in the East End of London before the war. The programme reminds me of her sewing room (our 3rd bedroom) where she worked from home when I was a child. I can almost smell the fabric and hear her sewing shears (which I still have) when she cut the fabric.

I expect your Mum made lots of nice clothes Millie. I've still got my Mum's tailoring scissors, they've never gone blunt. She used to make clothes for my sister and myself but couldn't tailor coats etc. I was envious of friends who had Mums who made coats!

My Mum eventually did a tailoring course as well brue. Yes I was so lucky I had some lovely clothes. She made me a couple of coats from my Dad's old jackets and trousers which she dyed - waste not want not! I still have a couple of 1950s dresses that she made me but sadly not the net petticoats.

Milliehull lovely memories, brue too. My mum wasn't professional but knitted and sewed for myself and my brother. She was always on the next size knitting for us both. She knitted for herself and my dad and made my dolls clothes. I have no idea how she found the time. Right to the end she knitted and crocheted. In fact I finished the cardigan she was doing the day she died for my great niece.
Isn't it a treat to go out? Great plant bargains for some milliehull 😀
We went out yesterday, first time for 48 days for OH and only my 3rd in that time! Needed to check on mums house and I was going to plant up mum and dad's grave but in view of the forecast didn't. I have some superb geraniums delivered from the local nursery which are covered again tonight.
Went to mum's and bought home her vacuum as mine has not been the same since its service as lockdown started 😤. It keeps coming apart and landing on my foot and will cause a serious accident insteps are very bony and bruise badly! I'm in written discussions with the company that serviced it but keep being told it's old 😯. The guy who serviced it told me it was in really good condition and not to part with it. I digress. I raided her pots and bought several back, pottered about there for several hours and it felt nicer than it had done previously. Cut the grass, 8 inches plus so hard work!
I picked one flower of everything that was out in her garden and put in a vase and took it to their grave and buried the vase. Now it looks like we care. Most strange to know the church was locked, but the churchyard was beautifully cut. I feel slightly better as it looked like no one cared. Dads grave was always well maintained so it seemed worse somehow.
I have spent the day pottering about with her pots, repotting and tidying them. I bought back a potted chrysanthemum that I bought her for her last birthday which was just left all winter on the table she could see from the kitchen window and its sprouting 😀, along with a margarite daisy. I've repotted and tidied them and they're in the conservatory for extra TLC.
I sorted a large pot of mint, boy was it heavy - turns out it had 3 full size house bricks as ballast so that'll give you an idea of the pot size! Placed in the back seat and held by the seatbelt 😂. Placed surplus to my mint requirements out on the drive and put on our local fb page and it went really quickly. I didn't pot it just into bags - wish I'd ordered my compost when I ordered bedding plants- the nursery did ask, but I still had 2.5 bags, not now.
Feeling content tired and satisfied. Showered and put dressing gown on as no one can call in! Left out 3 white plastic chairs again with a label saying free. A delivery driver for a pizza company saw them, and knocked on the door to check it was ok to take them and say thank you. I was very touched, but caught out 🤣🤣.
Good to read of others activities. I got a Tesco slot for 26th this morning. It's like winning the raffle!
Wherenext I'm with you over the governments vunerable letters and definition 😱🤐
As I drove to mums the council folk were putting the finishing touches to a roundabout display. I'll try to post a photo in a mo. Need to be on my phone to do it.

We are still working albeit on skeleton staff ,we have a retail tyre outlet and we fall into the category of key workers .We do work for the West Mercia Constabulary, and also 2 very large animal feed manufacturers and also a big percentage of the local farming community, plus we do quite a bit of work for local NHS staff and carers .The last 5or6wks since lockdown have been very difficult and stressful. We have 6 staff furloughed so trying to keep our remaining staff safe and at the same time keep all the customers socially distanced and remembering to sanitise everything regularly is quite a task .But at least we have been allowed to work. A massive thank you to all the NHS and key workers .
regards Brian & Jo 😊🌈

This roundabout has 2 willow tanks on it. Photo courtesy of an fb group, I did check I could share.
Even with little traffic it was hard to view might have to have this a my destination walk when I next do one!
It seems such a shame that celebrations won't be as they were planned. But better safe than sorry. Hopefully these can be admired long after the 8th 😆

Good work thank you.
I had cause to stop at tyre city as I got low tyre pressure warning after hitting a pothole. I didn't expect them to be open and I'd have to use our footpump.
Great service, the guy checked them all, wouldn't take any money so I'll make a charity donation in lieu. They are doing tyre repairs for NHS for free. A nice gesture.
Actually that reminds me there are lovely thank you NHS rainbows painted in the road surface for the 3 entries on the roundabout for our hospital.

What a lovely day today has been, nice and warm and not a cloud in the sky.
Did ours and 2 others shopping first thing before it got busy. Managed to get everything we all wanted (and some things that were not on the list) I bought some more plants, Geranium and Fuchsia this time, haven't had them for years but if we are not going anywhere for the foreseeable, then I will indulge myself with lovely plants
This afternoon we went to see OH's SIL to take her some masks and face visors, her daughter who works in one of the Erskine homes.
When we got there her daughter was also there
we all kept to social distance, not hard to do outside in the lovely sunshine. Her daughter had got in touch with us to see if we could help in anyway.
So glad that she did as we were both feeling a bit deflated having made them and then nobody wanting them. Still they have now found a good home. She also asked if I was able to make the crochet headbands, with buttons on that she had seen some of the nurses wearing. The face masks start to annoy the ears if you are wearing them all shift. So I've made her a dozen 2 different sizes, I have been wondering what I was going to do with all the odd buttons I have
I thought my biscuit tin was big until I got my Mum's, why do we collect them
When we got back home we had 2 new ebikes sitting on the back deck
yes we have 2 ebikes already but they are full size. These new ones are folders for taking away with us.
We bought them from AS bikes, they are very nice and look to be much better than the folders we had before. We will give them a good try out tomorrow now that OH has got them all set up. AS bikes have a very good offer on at the moment, they also gave us a 2 sets of pannier bags and 2 of the bags to put the bikes in when folded, no postage during lockdown and they came in 2 days.
No point in money sitting in the bank doing nothing is there

That sounds like a lovely and very satisfying day Bakers2. It does lift the spirits to go out doesnt it. A lesson for us perhaps that in future we should appreciate the small pleasures in life.
Such a difficult time for you Brian and Jo but you are doing such an important job.

Missing playing at Church, the Church Choir, and the other two choirs I direct.... the Brewood Singers and the Tamworth U3A Choir.... 😥 Keeping busy doing the odd job around the house and garden.
We should have gone away in the caravan today with a group of friends to Conkers C&CC site.... some of our 'group' are tenters so we usually use C&CC for this week. Tonight would have been our first BBQ away this week so we made the best of it at home....

Much warmer here today as that chilly NE wind had dropped. Had a pleasant 4 ml walk this morning with part of it through a local wood. Then this afternoon I got the bike out again and went for an 1 3/4 hrs ride, some of it alongside the shore. Quite a few people about, both walking and cycling but all keeping well away from each other. Managed to fit in a bit of gardening too. Now enjoying a bottle of Adnams Southwold Bitter before a final trot round the green with Flyte. Should sleep well tonight.

OH has been called for jury duty at the latter end of June. Just as it seems there might be a possibility that we'll be allowed out to play.

Been busy this morning - getting ready for tomorrow. Intend having a BBQ on the front drive and a few glasses of something to enter into the spirit of things. Thank goodness for the opportunity for a bit of a celebration in these strange times.
And before a certain fellow ex-yottie points out that I shouldn't be flying my old blue ensign in the garden, like that - I know!! Chances of getting hit by a £2000 a day fine for doing so are pretty slim (I hope)

Doing a catch up on here whilst not doing too much myself, trying to enjoy the peace before the mower starts.

😃 brue! Snap! I have that identical Mexican garden ring. Very fond of it, present from my sister.
I have ditched today’s bike ride. Hand clipped a hedge yesterday, and boy, do my upper arms and shoulders know about it. So, it will be dog walk, potter round house doing some daily tasks, then as it’s a lovely day, I might just enjoy sitting in garden today, having a read, bird spotting (2 blackcaps yesterday)...........until I spot something that needs doing😁

Just had a phone call from Dad's care home to say they're going to start testing all the residents for Covid from tomorow. Given that it's almost a fortnight since we heard that they had a case it seems a bit tardy to me, but better late than never I suppose. No reason to think he was one of those who had caught it, but will have to keep our fingers crossed.

Thanks for the update M, you and your Dad have been in my thoughts. Sincere good wishes for you all.🤞
If any aspect needs a full, open and honest enquiry when the time is right, it’s the issue of care homes. And not just relating to C19. Care for the elderly and vulnerable needs to be considered as part of community health provision, not something that huge profits can be made from, there for anyone to provide.

Wishing you a good recovery Mikey....🙂
