Thinking of folks preferences wrt paying / receiving payment for items RedKite I, like a lot of 'Aged Ones', will  have got quite used to buying my newspapers with a 'contactless ' wave of my credit card but I think my statement will probably be about a dozen yards long per month by the time this silliness is over !!

The only time I used a cheque was to pay for our log delivery, about 2 or 3 times a year and even he, together with the coal man now prefer BACS so that they don't get charged for paying in a cheque.

As for paying in cheques - I bank with the Halifax and their App which photographs the cheque is easy to use and it is credited to my account immediately.

I haven't been into a bank branch for almost 10 years!

Just done our first 'Click and Collect' order from Asda - not our preferred supermarket, but the only one I could get - and it went surprisingly well and very well organised.  Noticed yesterday that there were quite a few delivery slots available from Tesco's, so it looks as if things might be slowly improving.

A lot of shops over here still accept cheques  as I waited in the queue for shopping to ind the 1 couple paying by cheque the checkout staff have a machine to print the cheque and you then sign it and sometimes they need extra ID, a lot of the older generation here prefer cheques to cards or even cash.

Many years ago when we visited France every year, sometimes twice a year we decided to open a Credit Agricole bank account. When we opened it we found that the laws in France about writing cheques are extremely strict. There's no bouncing a cheque over there as the bank will inform the law and immediately suspend your account. This is probably the reason a lot of the older folk still trust the cheque paying system. It was virtually guaranteed. We just used to transfer some funds in before the holiday and pay a small annual charge. They even had a dedicated British dept.

We listened to a 2002 broadcast of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' via Youtube, and then discovered a home made audio on the same medium of hundreds of 'Samantha' excuses for late arrival/early departures. Sound quality not great, but the material was pure gold!

So many punchlines involved the outcome of leaning over to stroke small dog [who pants round Samantha's ankles] and her men friends cleaning up candle drips from furniture whilst Samantha was using sandpaper to remove old varnish [ 'he was looking forward to Samantha stripping whilst he wax off in the dark...']. It's all in the ear of the listener, as Humph was wont to say sealed

'Mastiff' = Front row of teenage boys at a [2002] Britney Spears Concert

    Lovely sunny day today.

I surprised myself by suddenly, and without any malice aforethought, got all of the stuff out of the garage and washed the roof of the caravan, which admittedly did need it and obviously then had to give the bodywork a quick spruce down.

Last Sunday when we went for a stroll it was like the M6 on a busy day so we've decided to have an early evening walk today.

Metheven, the cheque will last for a few months. Can it not wait or is the thought of an Insurance payout just too much to resist?

I know what you mean Mousey about the third degree when trying to get into the bank. I was given the same and did venture that if everyone took that approach the young man would be looking for a new job as the bank would just close as he and his fellow employees would be surplus to requirements. Didn't seem to bother him though.

Sunny day here today and quite warm so will be heading out to the garden soon. Yesterday’s delivery from local shop was a success again got nearly everything we wanted and it was delivered within 2 hours of ordering. Had a BBQ last night and sat out in the summer house until quite late on.
WN- I cleaned the roof of our caravan last weekend it actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be it only took me around an hour. Caravan sitting on the drive nice and clean I suspect it will be staying that way for a bit longer yet as there is nowhere to tow it to :(

I believe some banks are allowing cheque deposits by photograph. No idea how it works but might be worth a chat or look online before you go??

If I transfer money online  I always transfer a £1 1st to check it arrives in the right place. Not got it wrong yet but I can be dyslexic with numbers, and incorrect recipients don't have to return it 😤. Not got it wrong yet 😀🤞.

When I paid for our new car young salesman thought I i was mad..............  Sadly he had to phone me after the accounts department wanted to know where it needed to be posted to! Youth today 😂🤐

I often use them as better than cash if posting cards for youngsters. I do transfer online to our kids, good job one is NZ retains UK account! But I will write cheques for them - clearly labelled DUMMY CHEQUE in as many places as I can, in case they are tempted to bank it 😂😂 and I wouldn't trust the bank to notice otherwise! Then I set up the online transfer.

Went belly up for sons 1st wedding anniversary, I didnt complete the transfer to the end - still made him talk to me and say thank you 🤔😂😂😂

Totally agree with this, the constant repetition of the same "news" is very depressing.

As it's too cold (sunny but with a chilly breeze) to sit in garden, I have spent day watching youtube videos of national trails and mountain walks. My favourites are by Abbie Barnes:a very inspirational and admirable young lady 😊

Whoops several posts from me embarassed. Replying as inread, then find answers or comments I raise!

Glorious here, still trying to put plants in the ground, not got the urge yet 😯. Tackled the small shed, gee I hope it stays up now, it's in a bit of a rocky condition but can't deal with that. Don't think anyone has been in it for years!!!

Got rid of loads of bats and balls, frisbees, chairs, greenhouse shading, hanging baskets. All in drive with help yourself sign, saying been u touched for years and were self isolating day 31. Also put it on local good neighbour fb page and WhatsApp. Some respondents and lookers as they pass. One asked where we are, wanted bats to beat the kids, said she'd send hubby in the car - might use bats in him. I responded in similar way saying there are some if those bam bats that will let the beighbours know what she's doi9g if the kids don't scream 😂😂

Took photos, you have to these days, to show the kids! Opened the tidied shed to find hed snuck in 2 empty boxes 😱😱😱 why?? I've crushed them now so they're no use.

Right now to see exactly why one pressure washer doesn't work and either offer it for free if it might be fixable or chuck. Then its grass cutting, then meal prep. I thought someone said this us Sunday? A day of rest?

Sadly not us either JV. I think the ticket was bought in South Ayrshire we are in North Ayrshire however we visit South Ayrshire on a regular basis as our 2 weekend sites are there The Ranch in Maybole and Ayr Craigie Club site both only 30 mins drive from home but checked all our tickets and not us. One can dream though if it was us I’d go out and buy a new Land Rover Discovery always fancied one but not enough loose change to justify it haha

The cheque we get every 3 months is the FITS one, why they can't pay it in to the bank through Bacs I don't know.

We went to the bank the other day to pay one in, normally do it through the ATM outside but they are not doing them just now, unless you already have it in an envelope. No problem with a third degree, just flashed the cheque and once the customer that was in there had finished I was allowed in.

Lovely sunny day today, chilly though.

OH did all the ironing this morning while I have been messing around making re-washable face masks.

I've tried 3 different designs but have decided on just one, slightly adapted but very easy to make. I've lots of plain off cuts of sheets from when I made fitted sheets for the van. If its going to be something we are going to have to wear in the coming months then at least I will have some that fit wink

Saw a very good interview this morning on the Andrew Marr show with a professor from Oxford Uni, she is a vaccine-ologist. They have got a vaccine ready to start human trials in the coming weeks. The professor said (when asked by Andrew) that once you have had the virus, the it could be possible to get it again, as the anti-bodies only last for a given time.

However it seems a vaccine would give better protection and last for longer but 'may' be required to be repeated at intervals. It would appear that the UK does not have the capacity to make the vaccine in the quantities we would require, also it 'may' be that we 'may'  require 3 different vaccines for different ages (just like the flu ) could be up to 2 years until all folk get vaccinated.

    Stay safe folks

Just catching up on here after a day off yesterday.

Moulesy I am so sorry to hear that your Dad's care home has some cases of the virus.  Such a worry for you.  OH and I were only saying a couple of days ago and when all this started we thought that folks in care homes would be isolated and safe, how wrong we were.  Best wishes.

Helen. Belated Happy Birthday.  What a strange time to have a birthday when you can only see your family and friends 'virtually.  Still it is good that we can at least see each other in various ways.  It is certainly helping me to see the children, grandchildren and great grandson.  I hope you have found somewhere nice to put your rose and that it thrives.

I had an hour long phone call yesterday morning with my Cathedral guiding mentor. It was such a help and really good to think about something different for a change.  I then spent the rest of the day reading, researching and sorting out a script for my tour. We also got very excited as our tomato plants ordered from Sutton's arrived.  We are very impressed with the quality of the plants.  They are sitting on our conservatory window sill for the moment until they and the weather are ready for them to go outside in a couple of weeks.

Which pattern did you find best for the masks TG?

We too have plenty of sheeting off  cuts, so I could set OH to work!

Strange you cannot get your FIT payment direct to the bank, who are you with?   We get ours from EDF and it is only about 3 or 4 days from submitting a reading to the money being in the bank.

Twocals- has anyone ever seen the A1 so quiet?
We’ve had a good day here. Sunny and bright (a little windy) so I weeded the back garden and tackled a hardy fuchsia that had got too big. Topped the pond up, as we’ve had no rain here for weeks. OH edged the front lawn then mowed it.

We got a delivery from our local farm shop and it included “meat for the week” which had two small joints of meat, sausages, chicken, bacon etc. We decided to have the gammon joint for tea with chips and stir fried mushrooms and leeks. (to use the veg box up). It all went really well and got to plating it up to find.....the gammon joint was actually a pork joint!! 😳 (No labels on the meat joints) . Quickly got the apple sauce out and made some gravy.......tea was very nice, if a little unexpected! 😊

Only just put our dinner on 😱.

ADD46 lucky you could adapt your meal 😂😂

Lots of bits I put out from shed clear out are going. I've had lovely thank yous on fb and WhatsApp where I advertised them.

The florist lady who works from home, I discovered when she offered on fb to recycle door wreaths hers or others, put a note on fb to say she could do flowers from her garden and allotment. I need to trim a Pittosporum and curly hazel, offered them to her. She said yes, coming round to cut herself tomorrow. I can let her in the side gate and maintain social distancing! She maybe interested in some more of my shrubs - that's be my pruning sorted 😂

Tammygirl I'd be interested in your mask pattern. I can follow a pattern but no good to adapt or start without, certainly won't be on sewing bee! There's been some on fb that I've saved but no measurements. I don't have enough material to waste it 😱. An earlier tidy up last year and passed on to crafting group!

There is a D I Y Mask  which can be made from elderly t -- shirts,  so if you can get the Mail on Sunday ( No sarkiness puleeeese  ) on line then you could perhaps print it off  undecided.

No doubt it can be fabricated from other, similar, no longer needed fabric samples innocent

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pZLEtwD-yM

This is the address for the one on youtube that I'm using, its very easy and at the end of the clip it gives you the 3 sizes, small, medium, large.

I've found the large is the best for adults, probably medium for teens and small for children.

The only adaption that I did was put a small piece of wire at the nose piece so you can pinch it in to the nose bridge. Very easy to do, just make sure it secure at either end of the wire to stop it moving in the seam.

There is lots of other types but I felt this to be the easiest, I do uses a machine but it can be done by hand.

    Hope it helps.

I was reading up about fabrics for face masks earlier on, the best type to use etc. I don't think I'd bother with a liner as the mask would need a total wash after every use. I presume you'd need plenty of spares. I read on one web site that good quality old sheeting or men's cotton shirts with a tight even weave were suitable. Thanks TG and ABM. I wonder if we'll need them? I tried a mens hankie over my face, bandit style, it's pretty horrible after a few minutes. I don't know how those on the front line cope under layers of plastic, it's grim. frown
