Bakers, be careful with some of the Dog Rescue places. I know someone who jumped through lots of hoops, gave all the right answers, but still ended up with taking on a very aggressive dog that they just couldn’t manage. It was heartbreaking for them, as their hopes were raised greatly, they paid out for all the necessaries before adopting, started bonding with the dog but it quickly became obvious that things weren’t going to work out. Not the dogs fault, not the adoptees fault, but not enough in depth discussion between the rescue centre and those hoping to take the dog on. It wasn’t the Dogs Trust, they are usually excellent. Breed Rescue Specialists are usually very good, but of course not everyone is looking for a pedigree dog. Hope you find a little waif in need of a loving home, there are just so many out there.

Sorry to hear that you've not managed to find another dog, B2.  Fingers crossed that you'll find the right one soon.

Not good news about the awning, WN, hope that the canopy fits ok.

After yesterday's poor weather today was much better, with bright sunshine this morning. Drove across to the Coast and parked at Chapel Six Marshes and walked to Chapel Point along the beach. Flyte enjoyed himself in and out of the incoming tide. After lunch walked along the coastal path to The Round and Round House at Anderby Creek. All ready for our next move to Kings Lynn tomorrow.

Not been up to much today, work is still quiet. OH has been busy servicing our little Suzuki,  thinking of selling it as we don't use it much now.

David, good luck with the new kitchen, we replaced ours a couple of years ago, but we did it all ourselves, even I was assembling the new cupboards!

Bakers2 good luck with your search for a dog, we got our collie from the Dogs Trust, who we found to be very good.

Moulesy lovely picture, hope all goes well, have a lovely holiday.

Hope all those away are enjoying themselves, bit envious as not been able to get away since November, but have now managed to book a couple of days away later this month. smile

It would be fine Nell if all the CLs were levellaughing but we both know that there's not much chance of that. The good news is that the area it covers is good for us, missing the toilet door on the nearside end and coming down just before the side window. The canopy is to replace the one gone to awning heaven that we had for 10 years. We'll use that one abroad. Will try it out on later this week. I bet we'll never get it back in its box!😙

    Hope the move goes ok.

    Where you off to Helen?

Well, the airbag warning light has gone out with a consequent dent in my plastic card. To add insult to injury both wiper blades failed on the way home so after a trip to the local car parts shop for ones that didn't fit, ( yell ) I spent an hour or so trawling the net to find the right ones. What a day!

Had a near miss with my Ducato's blades t'other day CY.

The smaller, driver's side, one had frozen solid, and before I could dismount & free it the rubber strip had pulled right out of the framework !! Two minutes work and pair of cold hands later and all was back together A O K !! Swift Prayer to the Fiat Gods followed, naturally innocent

Might be worth checking for OEM ones online. That's how I found replacements for my previous van.

Have a good holiday in SA Moulesy we have friends here who used to live in SA and still have 1 son and family living there, also enjoy your new dog when you get back also good to hear about your little dog Brue we had some of your breed of dog for sale on local sale website 700 euros each  seems we have gone pricey over here for puppies as have the UK, we still miss our Springers but 11 years since the last one went.

A note for TDA I have just read a very interesting book re London Fire Brigade, A Brave Dog Named Sherlock written by Paul Osborne as a Fire investigation officer and his sniffer dog Sherlock who is a Hydrocarbon Detection Dog.

Weather here yesterday was very warm 23C today more like 12C so managed a bt of gardening yesterday but the ground is very wet still. OH still busy with final trim around the kitchen door and then I will start painting tomorrow amazing how much dust gets around when sanding the surfaces!

I'm not the greatest of gardeners but every year about now I have the pleasure of pruning back a huge buddleia bush (I've just finished this year's attempt) - and I prune it back hard. Mrs M comes in from her bridge morning and has the pleasure of telling me I've ruined it and it'll never recover. Then in summer when it's covered in deep purple blooms and smothered in butterflies I have the pleasure of reminding her what she said!

Simple pleasures are always the best, eh? laughing

A bit late arising this morning so had a shower and decided to have a coffee before going out. Sat back enjoying it and looked out of the window to see the other occupant of site emptying his toilet cassette into the Waste Water Disposal which was clearly marked as such. The door next to it has a big sign on it saying Chemical Disposal Point. You just have to shake your head at some of your fellow guests.

Slowish drive down to K L today due to high head and cross winds, but got to site safe and sound. The CL now has 3 good H/S pitches as well as it's grass pitches, and a separate paddock for giving ones dog a run off the lead. Clear still night tonight so expect a frost by morning.

    Oh dear WN🤢

We had a lovely afternoon out in Peak District, only Hathersage area, but very nice. Longshaw Estate was very busy, so we parked elsewhere and decided to chance walking pooch without his chariot. Climbed up Stannage Edge. Glad to say he did ok, slow and steady, the odd sit down but he enjoyed himself. Back into Sheffield city centre to visit specialist vets, parted with a not insubstantial amount of lucre, but the old lad is worth it. Forecast is for some good weather continuing, so hopefully more to be done in garden tomorrow.🤞

We never did get the high winds that were forecast, thank goodness.

Not a bad day here today, dry and even a blink of sun in the afternoon.

Have spent all afternoon cutting  aluminium angle to frame the hatch in the floor, almost done so should be able to start laying the actual flooring tomorrow.  Everything takes twice as long when one has a "little helper"!!

Time to go home soon.....Mummy has returned from work.

It is nice to spend time with the little lad, but not conducive to getting on with things!

WN, thank you for your open handed generosity yesterday laughing.

I'm delighted to inform you that, although the temps are dropping, there was no precipitation in South Cheshire, and no rain either { !! } so the kitchen mats are steadily drying out and will soon be back on the floor to be walked all over wink. Should you find yourself with another surfeit of dark grey fluffy things floating past, you can aim 'em at your nearest duck pond, if you please.smile

I think we're all in for some bumpy weather at the weekend...frown Nice day, managed the relatively simple task of getting my hair cut today, great after too many weeks of being away from the scissors and chat! wink

Sunset looked good, I think it might be a bit chilly tomorrow. Our new arrival is loving some short country walks.

Do not put your mats out at the weekend ABM, you may never see them again. laughing

The weather is looking pretty good on the northumberland coast for most of the weekend until the strong winds forecast for Sunday.....oh well if I have to stay an extra night and miss work on Monday that's not the end of the world 😁

OH collected the caravan from storage today, it needs a really good clean then will have to put back everything as we just about emptied it out last November.

Wherenext,  sorry only saw your post tonight we are off to the Peak District,  where else? wink A new CL to us as usual haunts were full as its half term. Will report back afterwards.

Nice to hear of plans made or being made. Enjoy them folks.

Hope your new arrival knows how lucky they are Brue. Best of luck. How are the eyes these days?

Spent the morning setting up and then taking down our own new arrival, a canopy awning.smile Seems to be what we want for sunnier climes.

Then off to Ellesmere for an elongated walk to Colmere from Ellesmere. Lovely day for it so much that it was just a Gilet and shorts day, well a few other essentials as well. Childblains on my knees now!

Interesting two days of our new kitchen. Yesterday the uninstallers arrived and ripped everything out including wall and floor tiles. Today the sparks came to do the preparatory work which included chasing into the walls. It also involve cutting  six inch diameter holes in the ceiling in order to get new cable work in place. When he had completed doing what he needed to he fixed the six inch discs back in place in readiness for the ceilings to be skimmed tomorrow. I think we have Friday off in readiness for the serious work to start on Monday. It's very noisy and dirty work but quite fascinating and I have to be careful to try and avoid chatting to them and slowing them down!!!

Exciting DK. We got our new kitchen from Wickes a few years ago. Ours was a major bit of work, we took a wall out to make our small kitchen much bigger and link with another room. I of course chose some seriously complicated bits and pieces, including a new cooker that required some serious electrical work, and a Belfast type sink. A Sparky chum advised and checked over the cooker installation (range type), but other than that, we did all the fitting ourselves. Oh boy was it hard. The worst bit by far was the sink, too heavy to lift in with just the two of us, and cutting the seriously expensive wood work tops was a nightmare. But somehow we managed it, I think we would opt to have it done next time though. Worktops are just not easy to get right. Glad to say it’s still looking good. The decorating after was a doddle in comparison.

What cabinet finish did you go for? We looked at all sorts of options, but in the end went for a Shaker style in a nice grey. Our colour comes in with range cooker/hood and splashback tiles. We have nice oak flooring to go with the worktops.

The kitchen that has come out was installed by me. It came from John Lewis at a time when all the cabinets came already constructed. I did everything including all the electrics, at a time when that was allowed!  I just can't cope with all the heavy work now and would have to get the boys to help me but they have very busy careers so that is a bit unfair. It's nice to have someone to do all the work. We have gone for a Shaker style in a sage green. This time we are having all integrated appliances (except in the utility), previously we have freestanding dishwasher and fridge/freezer.

I know how you feel David, my ability to deal with heavy things is much reduced these days, hence the work at DD's house taking so long. The fact we are not early risers does not help either, my "working day" does not start till around 10.30, the lunch break is lengthy, regular rest periods are required, and knocking off time is usually 16.30.

When they first got the house, in August 2018, she was still on maternity leave so was able to assist, but she went back to work almost a year ago now, so I only have her help on Friday afternoons and weekends these days.

SIL is also usually available at weekends for heavy lifting.......as long as it does not interfere with him watching football!  He however is not into DIY, so heavy lifting is the extent of his help, whereas DD has been down under the floors pulling in wiring, doing a lot of painting, helping to lay the flooring,  and also is getting good at tiling.

The only jobs we had to get expert help with was the plastering, and one wall of wallpaper, which we had to admit defeat on, despite having hung a lot of wallpaper in the past.  Even the pro said it was a "difficult" paper she had chosen.
