KjellNN glad your OH has had her OP and all seems good. Is the affected eye not covered for 24 hours? Mine was, gauze dressing then plastic eye shield which I wore every night for several nights. I think they said 2 or 3 but I opted for longer as I sleep on that side and I was conscious of the eye on the pillow.
Op time very similar to mine on the clock and length. Drops started following day and continued for 4 weeks. Vision the following morning was amazing. Didn't drive for a couple of days whilst it settled, possibly longer, time passes so quickly ๐ฏ๐ค. Not had my glasses changed, 6 months on, as I generally wear contact lenses, so was able to insert the left one and could see. Surgeon did suggest to others to have plain glass lens in their glasses until it all settled. I have long sight in operated on eye and short in my non operated eye - most odd to be long sighted as I've always been short sighted. They balance each other out well at the moment but I do have a cataract growing on my left eye. Rest up for a bit and I had gritty feeling by 4 weeks, turned out to be eyelash dandruff, has a posh name being with b......, opticians suggested wipes and drops and it soon settled down. She thought probably got it from the op.
Does that mean you have a full day off DIY today? But other duties require your attention ๐

KjellNN,
The only advice I can give to The Patient is :-
A) Don't Rub The Eyes !!
Get somebody to read the instructions on the bottles of drops ( Most Important this 'cos the daft Hospital Pharmacist put MY address label over the instructions on mine
)
C) Ensure She has good Wrap Round sunglasses -- the newly fitted lenses are oh so very clear as I've discussed before
D) Not sure if I need to add this one but :-- Make a Fuss Of Her
Like B2, I had a nice pink eyeshade for a couple of days -- think I might still have it tucked away somewhere 'cos it so closely matches my rosy cheeks

A lovely daft Spaniel.
Aren't they all Goldie? I think it's a pre-requisite of being a Spaniel.
Cleared the frost from the windscreen this morning but a nice sunny morning, except the wind was bitterly cold.
A day of trying to tie up loose ends. Still not having any joy whatsoever with our caravan dealer. An official complaint looms soon.
Sorted out the car insurance and green card for March/April.
Energy supplier having trouble with their portals, so not just CAMC website.
Been nice and quiet this afternoon as MiL had a lunch date with the "Ladies" and she's out at craft class tonight. She has a better social life than us.
Best wishes Kj, and Mrs.DK.

Yes, she has a shield over the eye, but it is transparent, no other dressing, so she can see through it a bit. Both eyes are now pointing in the same direction, so vision is less weird, thankfully!
Instructions given are pretty much as you have said.
She was very short sighted in the operated eye, not so bad in the other eye, so it has been suggested to knock out the lens on the operated side meantime and see how she feels about driving once things settle down.
Almost a full day off, spent an hour going to the local timber merchant for some oak boards for a project that DIL has asked me to do for our son's 50th in May. Otherwise I will be cooking and pampering.
Back to DIY and Grandparenting duties tomorrow though.
Miserable day here, snow early on and rain now, very dull, so she seems to be fine with light levels so far.

Sounds like you had a wonderful family weekend Helen. Was the vegan cake good? (asking for a friend as our SIL is now vegan). I don't envy you your journey home though. I presume you were on the 'wonderful' M6!
Thanks Millie, the I find Vegan sponge a bit more dense, compared to the normal egg sponge, but I wasn't very keen on the vegan replacement for the buttercream.
Yes, we came down the M6, although after watching Panorama about "Smart Motorways" last night, I may never venture on it again.

Best wishes for those in recovery at the moment.
We have had a lovely afternoon today. Drove over to Hope Valley area above Sheffield, (lovely snowy scenery) and a nice pub meal with Mr and Mrs Nellie! Grand little walk around Longshaw Estate afterwards to blow away the cobwebs away! The pooch is now trashed, despite trundling round a good bit of the walk like Lord Muck in his chariot!๐

All the best to those recovering from an op and others that have just been poorly.
Two different but enjoyable days. Yesterday was fine and sunny so we had a walk around Strand Woods above Chatsworth. This morning we woke to a light covering of snow and it snowed on and off till 10:30 when the sun came out so we went for a walk round the upper of the Linacre Res. The drove over to The Fox House by Longshaw estate for a delicious and extended lunch with Tda and OH, followed by another walk through the estate, just about managing to keep dry....but boy was it cold. Great to meet them and the pooch again.

Yes we watched that programme as well Helen ๐ฑ. I never want to go on a smart motorway again. I think I might pass on the vegan sponge for the time being ๐ค

We had a springer spaniel for many years - she lived for 17 years. Completely daft but absolutely gorgeous. Eldest son and DIL now have a cocker spaniel who is bonkers.
So glad your OH's cataract op went well KJ. Nice to know she can already see a benefit. I am still waiting to hear about mine. I hope it comes soon so it doesnt mess up our caravan season.
I hope you feel better soon.brue. You seem to have had a rotten winter

Still in sunny Bridlington, but heading back home after breakfast. Yesterday we went to Filey and Scarborough. It started to cloud over a little against we had got to the Scarborough South beach, but no rain, fortunately.
Photos: Filey beach, then Scarborough North beach, then Scarborough South beach, then Lizzie. It's been a bit of a beach couple of days...
Sorry to hear some of you are experiencing harsher weather...

I read that a lady who lost her husband is initiating an action against the Highways Agency. Lets face it, the whole concept is an attempt to increase motorway capacity on the cheap.

OH now has eye shield off and I have bathed the eye as instructed and applied the drops. It was a little sore earlier, and itchy, but much better now.
Looking at the sky , she tells me with the operated eye it looks slightly brighter and more blueish than with the other eye, but not so bright as to be uncomfortable.
Apparently now she can no longer read with that eye without her glasses, but can see things at a distance slightly better. And cannot focus at all with her old glasses on.
Another cold and wet day here.

Glad all seems good for your OH. Cataract removal seems to cure one problem but create others to begin with. Sight definitely changes as it settles down. I had mine done in June and didn't need anything other than my usual sunglasses when necessary outside, my dad had his done over 40 years ago, they didn't fit implants then and several days in hospital and wrap around glasses for a long time after. Supplied by the NHS ๐ฒ The hospital eye ward at that time, most of hospital gone now, looked over the county cricket ground - a little cruel me thinks!

CY,
There is a response from Green Flag / Mayday on their views on "Dumb" Motorways == on the " New Advice " Thread today 29 th at 13:45. Rather worrying I think from the viewpoint of "the accident that's just happened" if you see what I mean !!

Well, the component parts of the new kitchen arrived today. Conservatory, garage and lounge now full of boxes etc. Interesting that they scan every item as it comes off the lorry. Not only does this tell them if something is missing but they also provide a print off of what has been scanned for use by the fitters, all very interesting.

A sunny morning and with a brisk WSW wind blowing at about 20 mph made it feel quite cold but we wrapped up and spent a good 4 hours walking along the west coast on the Wirral.
The tide was up first thing so we were accompanied by plenty of Winter Geese such as Pink Feet and lots of Curlews and Lapwings with a few Harriers so you can guess we were as happy as the proverbial Pigs...
Really enjoyed the fresh air. Not too many people about either.
Hope Oneputts biopsy went ok and that the results turn out good for him.

Fingers crossed that they are right, OP

Sounds like an interesting day, WM.
Much better weather here today although the car was frozen first thing. After a ivy time Aldi to restock before moving tomorrow we headed over to Grassmoor CP for a walk before lunch then a second one along part of the Five Pits Trail. Got back to the van and managed to do the getting ready jobs before it started to rain again.
Now have 3 next sites booked, including Barleywood, again ๐
