For those who are old enough to remember the A12 before it bypassed Chelmsford and the Army and Navy maybe amused by the photo.
The second hand one way flyover which was erected in the 1970's was closed a while back due to being unsafe, is due for demolition next month, another solution not yet sort π².
Some wag has attached a blue plaque πππ

A few years ago we were walking through a farm on a PF in the Peak District with our Westie. Upon heading out of the farm building area we came across a Jack Russell who had half a rabbit sticking out of his mouth. He saw our Westie, who was on a lead at the time, and promptly proceeded to swallow the rest of it. I have no idea how he didn't choke himself to death. Bet he wasn't feeling too good afterwards.

Returned home this afternoon after a lovely family get together in Manchester. Celebrated eldest sons and OH's birthdays. Went for a rather chilly walk round the Deer park at Dunham Massey and a rather expensive visit to Altrincham. Managed to loose the parking token which meant it cost us Β£10 to exit the car park.
Of course found the token back at sons house which must have fallen into the shopping bag!!
Our youngest sons girlfriend had made a birthday cake, vegan of course complete with candles.π and we had a fun evening on Saturday playing games, which caused much laughter especially as the night wore on and a few drinks.
Journey home wasn't pleasant, very heavy rain and lots of spray so it was relief to get home.

Glad you had a good family get together Helen and Trevor.
We've taken the 'van out today, for the first time since the end of November. We've come up to Bridlington CAMC site. Arrived just as it was getting a little darker. Been out to do a little shop for tea and look forward to exploring the area tomorrow. I decided on Bridlington as it looked one of the best places for weather over the next few days - and only about 150 miles from home.... πππΆ

A lovely morning here at Bridlington. Bright clear skies. No frost, but a little on the cold side. Not at all bad for January....

All four seasons here today, sun and rain, then about 15 mins ago we had a heavy snow shower. Didn't last thankfully as we are due to leave in a couple of hours to go to Glasgow for our flight tomorrow morning.
We decided to stay overnight at a hotel there just in case, we've had to many flights lost or nearly lost due to winter weather here, so a few weeks back we said" there hasn't been any snow yet this winter bet it waits until we are due to fly". Sure enough the forecast is for more snow but I don't think it will be a problem.
OH been trying to check in online but there is an error so phoned in to discuss, yes sorry an error on the system and you can't book in on the telephone. If its not resolved in the next few hours looks like we will have to stand in line at check in tomorrow..
Oh well worse things have happened.

Popped up to Flanborough (including cake at the cafe) - Lizzie liked a small bit of carrot cake (π―) Now in Bridlington - a little walk on the north beach before we go shopping for food....

Great pictures, David - reminded us of our trip up there last year. How is Lizzie doing now by the way, is she recovered from her earlier illness?
Don't know if you've spotted it yet, but just up the road from the site in the Flamborough direction, is a signposted car park at Danes Dyke. A great spot for a stroll towards Bridlington, past the grounds of Sowerby (?) Hall, and a nice little cafe there as well, though I'm not sure if it's open at this time of year.
Enjoy your stay!

DSB wow the colour of that sky π² I'm sooooooo jealous. It was bright here this morning but now very grey and raining. Just had a very heavy vertical shower.
Grabbed the bull by the horns and am starting on some internal decorating, that was always OH's forte. Following the new conservatory roof I've ordered new blinds for the roof and the windows. So 'easy' start. Re-emulsion of the pebbledash, what was the external wall but hasn't been since the late 1930's so finish isn't crucial π. Couple of glazed doors to gloss, that'll be a challenge! Then cills to varnish. It'll be fresh if nothing else!
For hose heading off on their travels have a safe and good trip and for those away enjoy yourselves.
Milliehull I didn't make it to the Katharine of Aragon events, I chose my events then forgot to book! Well I was awaiting reply from DIL re one talk! So will book immediately for next year when they're announced. We were with son and DIL the weekend before and that's when I discovered my error and no she didn't want to go. π€.

Anything my big sister can do I can too. Bicycle without stabilisers is proving an extra challenge
Bakers..., this reminds me of our youngest (many years ago) who, on arrival at Park Coppice, jumped on his brothers bike and rode off with me chasing him. He was two months short of his third birthday!

Bit of family history there, DSB. My grandfather was born in one of those coastguard cottages at the back end of the 19th century.

Sounds like you had a wonderful family weekend Helen. Was the vegan cake good? (asking for a friend as our SIL is now vegan). I don't envy you your journey home though. I presume you were on the 'wonderful' M6!
Wonderful photos DSB. Such lovely weather. We have had a real mix of weather today but so far have avoided Tammygirl's snow thank goodness. I hope you have a lovely holiday Tammygirl. We have always stayed overnight at the airport since the beast from the east just to be on the safe side.
We had a busy weekend. Friday night at our local theatre to see Ruby Turner who was as excellent as always. (my Christmas present to OH). Then on Saturday our daughter and 9 year old grand-daughter were in a panto that their local village amateur panto society put on each year so we had a family outing, took up the first 3 rows of the audience. We picked up grand-daughter, her fiance and baby Finn and took them as well. It was such good fun. I haven't laughed so much in ages. Hence I didn't get to any of the Katharine of Aragon events either Bakers2 so feel very guilty. Hopefully all the events won't coincide next year.

Thank you for the kind comments about the photos.
I'm no photographer. All photos taken on my phone and just resized so that they are reduced to under 500kb in order to fit the CAMC website requirements.
It's been a really lovely day today. The weather has been really good for January, enabling us to get out and about. Hope others have had some good weather today too. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Thinking of a trip up the coast... perhaps Filey or even Scarborough? It's not an area we are particularly familiar with, so it's been an interesting time....

Mixed weather at the moment, though it does make for good photographs.
We're the farm at the back in the centre. Taken by by son yesterday. (He's much better than me).

After a stormy night with someone chucking buckets of hail on our back windows we have sunshine just now. I hear the M5 and A30 have been affected by snow and ice so take care if travelling this way.
That is a beautiful photo Goldie.

Dramatic photo Goldie.
Brue that sounds nasty.
Bright and breezy here this morning nice change for here. Towels out for a hazel. About to walk into town to return couple of bits. Will continue painting the conservatory on my return. Pleased with the results so far, about halfway on the pebbledash.
Anyone else just getting a blank page after refreshing? It's happening on my tablet and phone both Samsung android. End of my knowledge π. It happened after I logged in too! Progression bar loads and disappears but just a black white screen. There was maintenance this morning π²

Very busy week this week. Yesterday Margaret went for her 6 month appointment at Bedford Hospital for her polymyalgia rheumatica. The consultant she has seen for the last two years has now left the hospital and moved to Milton Keynes hospital!!! Might be a bit confusing to try and change. Fortunately the new consultant is very nice and tends to cut to the chase so to speak. Today Margaret has her hospital diabetic eye check. Tomorrow the kitchen is being delivered, just hope we have allowed enough space to store it all! Thursday Waitrose as usual plus lights to pick up from JL. Friday dentist check ups in the morning and solicitor in the afternoon. Might need a sit down after all that but we can't get too comfortable as kitchen fitters start next week and that will be a test of our inner strength!!!

Well good luck when all those boxes arrive David! I remember the fun involved...
A second hand book I ordered has just arrived. lt's about winter gardening...that will keep me happy, it's an old favourite and when I went to look up a few things I realised I hadn't actually got the book but had borrowed it a lot in the past. Thanks to this book, we have lots to look out on over winter but I can always add a bit more...
I'm not actually doing any gardening just now, it's too cold and damp and I'm recovering from some heavy doses of penicillin, they have knocked me and my glandular infection out, which I am thankful for!

Just stopped for lunch. Sitting in the sun πin a muddly conservatory. Successful trip onto town- jolly chilly! More progress on conservatory walls.
Brue you've had a rough few months. I sincerely hope this lot of antibiotics has knocked all infections out and you can begin to feel better. Interested in the winter garden book, last January I bought Chimonanthus praecox having seen your photo of yours, sadly it didn't flower last year, but I was otherwise engaged π. Can't see any buds for this year π’. Just checked the label and it says flowers VI-VII which is surprising. Didn't flower at that time last year either! Very strange really as label gives other names as wintersweet. That said our Christmas Box smells wonderful in the back garden but is further behind in the front which is much cooler and less sunny so can look forward to that too. Outdoor cycles still going strong and a couple of small iris bulbs flowering π
David good luck with your busy week. I too remember the delights, eventually π, of a refurbished kitchen 8 years ago. Just go with the flow! Still open the 'wrong' cupboard from time to time so don't change storage places too radically ππ

OH had her cataract op this morning. Left home 06.45, arrived at hospital 07.45, admitted to day ward by 08.30 and was 3rd on the list. Taken through by 10.45, 15 minute procedure, discharged by 11.45 and we are back home and have had lunch.
Vision still blurry as the right eye is pointing in a different direction to the left! Should settle down once the anaesthetic wears off completely. She has 2 types of eye drops to use 4 times per day for 4 weeks, then she can get new glasses, so may not be able to drive for a while.
She has a booklet of instructions, tips from those of you who have had this done will be very welcome.
