Commiserations, B2 it's always a traumatic event no matter what time of year it is. Much quicker when my Father died twenty years ago and therefore much easier for aged Sister & myself to handle, especially as the so-called New Millenium Celebrations were a few weeks past.
Now I've been up a while & checked the latest news I tootled off, bought a newspaper, fed the birds then applied myself to the latest mantra -- " now lets get Breakfast Done ". Did it and, happily, enjoyed it so now the day is designated ' Get those Cards & Presents Finished Mister ' day

Itโs hard Bakers. We were very fortunate, got all Dadโs paperwork done quickly. The first Xmas is very hard as well, but you have to keep going. Take care, in our thoughts.

Sunshine here but have now caught the local croaky cold, so not feeling brilliant. Got OH to wrap presents this week, never asked him before and I'm a terrible present wrapper, skewiff (not typed that word before!) paper and Sellotape stuck to the wrong bits. Anyway he's done a brilliant job so I'm appointing him, officially, from now on...
B2, sorry you are having to wait so long to make all the arrangements for your Mum. We had similar for my father in law who died suddenly on New Years Eve a few years back. We had to wait a month, by which time we were quite downhearted and my sister in law kept adding things to the service. Hope you can find some peaceful time for yourselves and keep to your plans, a long wait is a difficult distraction.

Went for my annual Doppler Test today. For those unfamiliar it is a test to establish the state of circulation in the lower legs. Now nurse Shirley always seems surprised at the ease at which I hop up onto the bed and get into position for her to do her tests. It got me thinking. I have never been a sporty person but neither have I been a slouch and it just seems second nature to move freely and quickly. Is this not normal for people in their early seventies? Perhaps it's a benefit from our hobby?

We have been to Wansford today to get tickets for Burns night special train on 25th Jan ,it is very popular, while there got talking to some of the volunteers,,and so managed to "Blag"a look "behind the scenes in the workshop, , and could still get up onto the footplates of several engines from ground level quite easily ,so dog walking and our hobby could well be helping to keep us supple

Iโm not sure there is a normal, David. Some of us can and some canโt. You happen to be one of the lucky ones.

Bit of a rotten day yesterday, BIL collapsed in the bathroom. My sister phoned around 5pm to say she couldn't get him up off the floor. She had called an ambulance but not sure when it would come. OH went straight out to car and drove into Perth to help her. Ambulance arrived at same time, so between them they managed to get him up on a chair. Long story short, he is now in hospital in Dundee. Perth don't have a cancer ward so transferred to Dundee. Today he is a little better, managed to get some much needed sleep and they have him on a fluid drip and antibiotic drip. His blood count was very low after the chemo a week ago. Seems it can happen sometimes, he will be in for a few days to get his levels up and to make sure he has no infection.
Other than that, eldest son came up yesterday, stayed overnight, then left this morning to collect his 2 children from school in Dunblane and drive back down the road to Tidworth.
Weather better today as no rain yay
bit off colour this morning, felt really dizzy and queasy. Feeling better now and managed to eat tea.
Should make a start on the Christmas cards but it can wait until tomorrow now.

Best wishes to your BiL TG.
Another rainy day.๐
Pudding bowl day. Not much else going on. Managed to work out how wrapping paper and cellotape can work together. Yahoo.
JVB - Your post about sedentary or active can work either way. Just depends on whether the person is generally fit, well and has the willpower to excercise. Plus a lot of luck.

Sorry to hear about BIL, TG. Glad that he's feeling a bit better after his treatment and sleep.
A pleasant day here, although still cold but the wind had dropped. Drove up to Brimham Rocks for a couple of walks. I managed to clamber up onto a few of the outcrops, although I did have a bit of assistance from Flyte!! Heavy rain again now, unfortunately. Still a few Christmas cards to write and get posted, so might get them done tomorrow if it is still raining.

If you mean active manual workers can literally wear out their joints then I agree with you.

All Christmas cards written and posted. Received driving license renewal today also going to have to renew my passport so that will happen after Christmas.
Fortunately we are still pretty mobile and walk between 3 and 5 miles a day, long may it continue.

Sorry to hear about your BIL. Chemo is tough, my OH had to be made to take it easy, take a nap if required etc... and of course itโs the infections risk as well. Good wishes for you all, hope he picks up quickly.
I have had a day wrapping as weather so foul. Managed a dry dog walk this morning, it went downhill quickly after that.

Wrapping presents. I hate it! Love choosing and buying, But wrapping - ugh!
Back to it. Must get done in case someone calls by with something for us.
Never been so organised (if that's what I am) so early before.
But - something to look forward to - Chris Difford at Settle tonight! The last time we saw him solo was in our sitting room April 2018.

You can ask him to return the silver when you see him.
Another cold and quite rainy day here in North Wales. When the sun is out it is definitely lying. Managed an almost dry walk, mostly a quick trot, before settling in for the day. Our attempt at decorations put up. We don't go over the top and have quite minimalistic stuff but Mrs WN still has tree decorations from when she was a baby and they're the first ones up. No paper chains though.
1 -
Have just been doing the same with the decorations. Also putting the lights up outside to keep in line with most of the neighbours who would probably be able to help out with Blackpool Illuminations if needed!
(We keep saying we're doing it for the children but that includes any age from 0-100yrs.
) Also the youngest grandson will be here for a few days just before Christmas and he will be expecting his old grandparents to have made an effort...

Mums tree is a ritual. Stuff on there going back 80 plus years. Younger stuff includes one of my first toys, my newborn bootees and a teething ring! Old Westling balls are incredibly fragile, lethal if the break๐ฑ
Two last pressies bought today, got three more to make (jewellery) and then done.
Hoping Iโve got a date with Mr Humble himself (Jose M) in New Year, fingers crossed we can get tickets now. Makes Frenzy Day look a cakewalk.......

Just filling in time with a bit of keyboard surfing on here -- recovering from a rather different type of 'collapse' to others thankfully !! Had a very light lunch, opened the post and found the second but much superior magazine for steam traction nuts
. Had a quick browse before getting the afternoons work done but only finished the sandwich, half cup of coffee and just a tiny nibble of the cake remnants before I 'dropped off' . Now I'm an example of the non too mobile aged generation ! Definite crick in the back with it's brother in my neck so I'll be under going therapy in front of a warm fire for the rest of the afternoon
.
Seriously David K What do your Doppler Tests ( D T ' s
?) involve please. The reason I ask is because I have a six monthly discussion with diabetes clinic nursing staff. They do the usual foot checks on me but I'm sitting in a normal chair & they are on their knees ( as is only right of course ) prodding & jabbing away. I am sure this is not good for them when there is a normal surgery type bed on which I could perch with them working at normal seat height, with no strain on either of us. But what do I know, I'm only the patient

Seem to have been chasing my tail for the past couple of days. Thursday evening the lights fused. Investigating yesterday revealed that one of the ceiling fittings had been collecting water from the roof leak and had shorted it all out. Doubtless exacerbated by the delusion quantities Disconnected, dry it all out, give the hole through the ceiling a good shot with the OH's hairdryer. Lining the fitting back up for the holding screws was a ten-handed job though.
Another visit to my tame garage man has confirmed that the airbag ECU on the MH needs some TLC so we are going to deal with that in the new year.
Then to cap it all the new phone I bought for the OH on the net won't charge so I've had to return that.
Finally, I was collared by the vicar for a 'dress-up part' as a 'wise man' for the second carol service on Monday week.( Talk about mis-cast) We have to have two sittings to get everyone in.

We've got a tree (from a local farmer this afternoon), but it will stand naked until next weekend. We've cut back this year - only one real tree downstairs (as we've no family staying overnight until after the New Year). We will be putting small artificial trees (with lights of course) in the four bedrooms at the front. Easy to do - as we just fold them up a bit and shove in a cupboard in the relevant room. Whether the lights survive is always a surprise.
Presentwise I just have to get some cash for the Grandchildren (to put in tiny mugs with their names on). Gone are the days when I knew what to buy them.

Oh do tell CY.....what is your dress up part?๐

Firstly thank you to those who have sent good wishes to BIL, OH went to see him this morning and he is much improved. They are talking of him going home on Monday. Big sis couldn't visit him today as she is full of the cold so not allowed. Its her birthday tomorrow.
I had a lazy morning today, still not feeling 100% really tired but at least the sick feeling and dizziness has gone. Felt a bit better after lunch so got the tree down from the attic along with all the dec's for it. Tree now in situ looking good even if I say so myself, had a little help from next doors cat, best fun I've had in awhile.
A few other items have been placed around the house to make it look festive but we don't go overboard.
Weather has behaved itself today don't think we've had any rain at all
can't be sure as I haven't been out the door for 2 days.
Still haven't got my cards done.

It has been horrible up here, periods of heavy rain and sleet all day. We've finished writing our card so they are ready to post. Managed a couple of short walks with Flyte without getting too wet. He must have hurt one of his legs yesterday as he was hopping rather than running about and wasn't keen to go too far, so he's had plenty of time to rest his leg today. Our last night at Harrogate before we move up to Teeside tomorrow.

I should perhaps explain that about ten years ago I had an accident on a campsite in Germany when the door of the toilet block sprang back on me an injured the leg just above the ankle. I think because I didn't understand the seriousness of it and perhaps didn't give it the attention it should have got I got an infection in it and eventually it ulcerated. They were getting very concerned about it and at one time thought it might be cancerous, fortunately it wasn't. When I was eventually seen by a skin speciality nurse she managed to get it to heal and it's been fine ever since. However what concerns them with any form of leg ulcer is the state of circulation in the legs and as a result of the problem I have to wear compression socks. The Doppler Test measures the blood pressure in your arm relative to that in the ankle. For this you have to lay down on a bed and they use the same blood pressure strap on the ankle as they do on the arm but in addition they use an ultrasound to help measure the pressure. They then work out a calculation which you either pass or perhaps need further treatment. Fortunately my reading have always been fine. However like you Margaret is a diabetic and her tests sound rather like yours but I suspect they are looking for different things. From what you describe you don't have a proper Doppler Test?

Tammygirl good to hear your OH saw an improvement in your BIL today, and that you feel slightly better today. Happy birthday to your sister for tomorrow tough times for her too!
I have come down with achy cold and sore throat ๐ฏ my usual reaction to stressful time, surprised it's taken this long in view of the year we've had!
Friday 13th turned out quite productive, death certificate obtained, cause of death fraility with underlying issues hypertension etc! Which I did know last week. I met the farmer from mum's road at the registry office - there to register her mum's death she was in her 90's and had a granny flat in the farmhouse. 2 in the same lane, 25 houses and the church, within a fortnight.
We collected the wills, dad's and mum's plus their enduring powers of attorney and house deeds from solicitors, dad's been gone 18 years. Decided we aren't using them after brothers house purchase....... Not decided if we'll do it ourselves but have a fixed fee appointment with solicitor on Thursday to discuss. Closed her current account, visited the undertakers to officially book funeral date 7 January at her church, ordered our flowers too. Good job it's not the week before, no flower deliveries! Announcement for the local paper and parish magazine sorted. Confirmed caterer and village hall, we have the session in between yoga in the morning and karate in the evening! Totted up numbers we think will attend and frightened ourselves!! Starting telling folks now the date's official. Spoke to the vicar to confirm our provisional date is definite, he was under the weather earlier in the week with flu like symptoms but now under the hospital for the nasty bug, but at home, sounds dreadful so those discussions on hold.
Posted Christmas cards and delivered local ones today as well as grabbing a very odd selection of items in a 'food' shop. Hopefully I'll have energy, time and whatever's required to list food required for festive period - never been this far behind, may do a 'the good life' and buy Christmas in but not from Harrod's ๐๐ as well as sustenance for the next week.
Oh yes it was showers first thing but dried my washing later in the stiff breeze.
No wonder I'm feeling sleepy ๐ค๐
Keep warm and calm folks and keep posting it's generally nice light relief ๐.
Cyberyacht a Wiseman, no adding silly words to Carol's.........

Thanks Bakers, its not been a good year for a number of folk on CT, I think yours has been truly testing.
Good to hear you are now managing to get things put in place for your Mum's funeral. Here hoping next year will be kinder to you and your OH. Hope you feel better soon.
