I tried one in Italy a few years back albeit only the aftershock and that was bad enough!!! I don't think I have had a feeling of such uselessness as there is nothing you can do!!!

Strange habits some folk do have, Freddy surprised, I'd never dream of using oil on my tongue !!sealed

Well the sky in the County Palatine is clearing at last. T'was grey & nasty when I got up this morning, but it was dry. Made the decision to utilise the morning as best I could.  Had a decent breakfast with only one coffee, then off down to Morrisons to fill up with diesel and give the Duccy its winter wash. Few quids worth of fuel then across to the 'washing area'  popped relevant number of sheckels into the unit, turned on the 'Vehicle Bubble Bath' And then down came the blooming rain yell. Acted heroically  and got the full vehicle washed and power rinsed. Only left a minute on the dial, so defo got my money's worth ! Drove off the site and,     and,      the rain stopped yell.yellyell

Drove round to my preferred garage & booked in for MOT, Service & good check on vehicle battery condition -- well it's still the original one now 8 years old & struggled a bit in the recent cold spell. Don't suppose it owes me much now !  Had annual chit chat at the owner & the receptionist ( his Daughter ) then strolled back to the 'van for the run home AND it was raining again.  Still raining as I arrived home so I'm glad I have had the Pensioners Flew Dyab wink.  Now it's all relaxation 'til the morning  .

    Have fun y'all  smile

I've not been very active for the past couple of weeks or so (Flu or some similar lurgy), but I think I'm over it now. So I'm whizzing round with polish and a duster as we have friends coming to stay tomorrow. I can understand dust in our kitchen (the Aga dust makes everything filthy), but how does it get into a bedroom two flights up and along a long corridor? It's a good job it's very old friends who don't care.

I'm totally organised, with a timetable of what and when to take out the freezer and when to start cooking. I'm being a bit rash with two new recipes. Maybe the shelf full  of Gins will help.

I've watched quite a bit of television when I couldn't do anything else and enjoyed old episodes of Lewis (recorded). So I've signed up for a free trial of Britbox as it seems to have the sort of old programmes I like. I've connected the TV to a laptop as it doesn't have an App on Sony TV's yet (and prefer to watch on a proper screen). Time will tell whether I continue when the time comes to pay.

Back to the dusting! Why do I have so much "stuff"?

Good results HD  as I showed it to OH who is Type 2 and says you have done well in three months.

Brue we did not feel anything here at Cheddar club site just gusting wind and then some heavy rain after the wind. Cheddar has got a Xmas village do on tonight and at 6pm fireworks from the church tower so will go out and watch them may go later for a walkabout to see a local choir singing but the footpath upto the old railway line is very muddy at the moment.

Well she can't thump me if she's laughing, can she undecided.  Well, can she  embarassed

Thanks Husky, it all came up when a change of medical centre included a check up and it was a bit of a shock (the partner of one of our daughters.) Not overweight but his Mum has diabetes, he's doing well so far, two spoons of sugar in coffee and tea were the first to go!

Dry day today but everything still very wet so no outside jobs other than topping up the bird food.

Since its now nice and mild up here, we decided to have yet another go at clearing out the attic storage room. Boot of car full of things, another load waiting to go to charity shop and a pile to be sold off. Phew.

The one thing I don't know what to do about is my knitting machine. It is still in good order with many attachments and a huge box of wool. I can't bare to just dump it but would anyone these days want one?  Any suggestions welcomed.  I would like the time and opportunity to use it again as I ran it as a business for years while living in Germany.

Finally got a response from my LPG supplier, not as good a result as I would have liked but can't complain too much wink

BIL had his first chemo session yesterday, popped out to see us today for a cuppa. He has a very positive attitude so fingers crossed.

Sorted out some more of Mum's personal papers this morning, came across a diary which turned out to be my Dad's from 1946 when he was in the Navy, he had written in it every day. During that year he was sent out to Ceylon (Sri Lanka ) and then returned again through the Suez Canal. Within 10 days of him being demobbed he started work.  Also found Mum's Bible and New Psalms from when she joined the RAF.

Margaret uses the Drama Channel, which is on Freeview - don't know about Freesat,  a lot for catching up with retro TV series, she sets the recorder to capture those she wants. Of course a lot of them are not in HD which makes for vintage viewing!!!

Like HuskyD, I got the 'treatment' from the dietician when I was first diagnosed,  Tall slender lady ( could hide quite happily behind an HB pencil ) told me quite seriously, Oh don't stint yourself at Christmas, you can have A mince pie you know !!  And no, she had not got any sign of a sense of humour -- She meant it   !!

Hi TG. Re the knitting machine and wool....it might be too big, or a bit complicated to use, but would Dementia/Alzheimer’s charities not make use of it somehow, would be great for making Twiddle Muffs, the basic tube so that all the bells and whistles could be added later?

All your papers sound very interesting. We are underway doing a bit of research back into our families at the moment. Fascinating stuff.......

Edit, good luck to your BIL as well. Chemo is tough, it’s the cycle of knowing at some stage you are going to feel like poop, but have to endure it, again and again. Hope things continue well.

Goldie,  Hope you are steadily improving from the bad days of the lurgy.  Just make sure you're protected from the 'flying dust particles ' nasty sneeze inducing stuff !!  Never suffer from it myself, 'cos Brian is collecting dust & cobwebs to use as Christmas decorations  wink.

TammyG,  If you need to put your knitting machine thro' it's paces and get shut of some of the wool mountain, you could always set up for " mass knitting " of red/amber/green babies hats { Just trying to reduce my aged sister's work load at the same time as making life less stressful for Alfie, her house cat  }innocent

Now its back to the coffee & dry toast for lunch ( just showing off for  Huskypup  cool )

To all others, Enjoy the day what ever you are adoing of  laughing.

Dark, wet and miserable here today, lights on since getting up.

Went out and did some food shopping, freezer now full smile

Had our daily visit from the cat just as we were going out the door typical, she shot in the house like a rocket. So gave her some food and left her in the dining room while we were out, she is quite happy nowadays to curl up on top of the dining table and have a sleep. laughing

Think we are having a day off today from jobs, I was going to get the sewing machine out but the light isn't great for working with dark colours so it will have to wait.

TDA, thanks for the suggestion re knitting machine but I'm afraid it is a bit of a beast so don't think it would not suitable for your suggestion, although I could make some of the twiddle muffs for the home Mum was in. I'd have to google them first to see what it should be like but I think I have an idea. undecided

If we didn't go away as much as we do I would have time to get stuck into it again laughing my hand knitting, Arran cardigan/jacket is coming on, I'm about 3" above the armhole shaping. I can only knit for about and hour just now as my left hand forefinger is suffering, must be lack of use.

    Tammy

I had a knitting machine 20/30 years ago. I knitted for the family (whether they liked it or not), and sold at the local WI market. I was also an out worker for a local business making posh designer i.e. expensive, jumpers.

I sold it through the local paper when I started work full time. I think the family appreciated the silence. I’ve kept some samples (farming related) as I designed them and can’t bear to throw away.

I have found myself looking at machines on EBay lately.

Hi, I bought mine in 85, its a Knitmaster 360K with a ribber bed and a lace carriage.

When we lived in Germany I used to do lots of knitting, jobs were pretty scarce with the armed forces and we moved every 2 years so by the time you got a job your were not in it long before you had to move on again.

A friend had a machine and taught me the basics, it kind of took off when I started knitting jumpers for my boys that were different to what could be bought from the Naafi or in the local shops.

Friends then asked me to do stuff for their kids and it kind of snowballed. By the end of one posting I was knitting for a couple of places, all military based.

Rugby, skiing and football jumpers in their Corps/Regimental colours. I even got an order from the cross country skiing team as they wanted jumpers with longer arms laughing

Ski hats in winter were in big demand as we lived in an area just an hour from the slopes. I used to have the boys making the bobbles when they were sat watching tv after tea, while I sat and sewed up the seams. It was great fun but by the time we came back here at the end 1990 I was ready for a brake.

Sad to say its been packed away for quite awhile now, I have done one or 2 bits and pieces but have never got back into it in the same way.

Now that we are both retired I don't seem to have the time like I did when working part time, its crazy but OH used to worked an hour from home, so didn't get in till around 18.30.  I used to have most afternoons to myself, plus he used to work one night a week and every 3rd weekend so always had plenty of me time back then. Maybe I should send him back out to work laughinglaughingwink

Perhaps I take should over the grandkids attic room, I could then leave it up, surrounded by all my mess laughing

Had a nice walk into our local town this morning via the back lanes. Normal Saturday market in full swing with a farmers market also going strong. Nice to get out and about.

TG - MiL had to sell her machine a few years ago due to arthritic hands. She advertised it in a knitting magazine and sold it straight away, to the first responder who insisted on travelling from Hull the following day to collect. Mind you it was a good few years ago now, about 10, so don't know if she'd get the same response now.
