TG, don't tell everyone the number of the pitch otherwise you'll never get it again!

Off to Chester early today to get the nashers sorted out. Thank goodness they all passed their current MOT.

Returned home to find a dead eviscerated rat lying slap bang in the middle of our front lawn. Wasn't there when we left home. Guess who had to deal with it?

    Blooming cold out there today.

No warmer in Essex either! Grey and drear distant mist real November day.

Glad your teeth ok Wherenext sorry about the rat - defo boy job 😉 at least while it can be 😂.

Tammygirl good to hear you 'done good' for TV and wifi on your pitch.

New gas fire fitted today - guess what??  Yes not straightforward despite having the same size fire our opening is mm's too large so can't get a seal........ Got to have granite insert, made to measure, and really nice fitter guy coming back to finish the job as soon as it's made. Why did I think it would be straightforward after the year we've had??

Had to have boiler off and guy was in and out . I kept kitchen and  conservatory warm. Made soup and a crustless quiche so lunch, dinner sorted  and some in the freezer too. House didnt seem to warm up! Reset the boiler twice, no joy, guy coming back asap but on another job. Lightbulb moment, turned gas supply off and on again and ran the hot tap reset boiler. Eureka boiler kicked in house now warming. Guy impressed but not as ,much as me! I'm getting there on boy jobs 😂

Whatever you're doing stay safe and warm and enjoy. Off to walk the grand dog. Still cuppa and cake on our return 😀

A lost day here. Woke up with an eye problem. Irritated, lot of pain round socket. Managed to sort out Mum, but Sis insisted I went to hospital. Glad I did, not too long a wait either. Seems I have a bad scratch on eye. Back home with eye drops, pain killers and an appointment for eye clinic next week. No idea how it’s happened.🤷‍♀️

Glad your tow went well, TG. It's quite a surprise that you were able to get a TV signal without a cable, well done.

Good to hear that the dental visit went without mishap, WN.

Who's a clever girl then, B2. Hope that the engineer fixes the fire on his return.

Sorry to hear about the eye problem, tda. Fingers crossed that it's no more than just a scratch and that it heals up quickly.

Another cold gray raw day here, too. The window guys came and we now have a set of sliding patio doors out from our dining room. Hopefully tomorrow the job will be completed, all plastering  and cementing done. Then we will have to wait a few days before redecorating that part of the room.

A whole 7 days up to now...getting itchy feet already!! We won't be heading off for a little while yet, still a couple of more appointments next week, then we'll have to see what's what, as the Balfour Beatty are digging up the gas main in our road at the moment and the van may be blocked for a while, unfortunately.undecidedyell

Sorry to hear about your eye TDA.  That sounds nasty. I hope it heals soon.

Glad you are all set up with TV and Wi-Fi Tammygirl.  What a bonus. I hope you enjoy seeing your family and that scattering your Mum's ashes isn't too emotional for you all.

Glad your dentist appointment went well WN. My appointment was cancelled as dentist is ill so I have postponed it until January. Well done with the rat. I definitely don't deal with rodents either dead or alive!

We met up with friends for lunch yesterday. We met them many years ago on a campsite in France and have remained friends ever since.  We used to meet up every year somewhere in France and also a few times in England as well until they sold their motorhome some years ago.  They live near Stratford-on-Avon so we meet up 3 or 4 times a year for lunch at a venue that is about half way from both of us. I then went to my Cathedral Guiding course last night.  We all have to give a 5 minute presentation about an aspect of the Cathedral next week.  I have chosen Katharine of Aragon. I am beginning to wonder why I let myself in for thissurprised

Well done with your heating Bakers2. I am most impressed. We had our boiler serviced today and mentioned that our time clock isn't working too well - sharp intake of breath - might not be able to get a new one for a boiler as old as ours (13 years). How much for a new boiler we asked - another sharp intake of breath - can't install another one in the same place as outlet pipe is in the wrong place and doesn't comply with current H&Asurprised OH has had another 'look' at the time clock and it is currently working, fingers crossed. If it packs up we will just switch on and off when needed while we save up for a new boiler.

Our boiler is coming up for 26 years old! Still behaving itself, although it’s had two new thermostats and a new time clock. It’s seldom on all the time, stove warms the whole house most days. We are looking at replacing it possibly though, might need to add additional radiators in attic, so might need something else.

Millie, your lovely Cathedral was on Channel 4 news this evening. Reporter was up on roof overlooking town doing a report on Election.

Presentation sounds interesting, I would go armed with a Pomegranate! K of A must have had a very interesting childhood, strong parents and the Alhambra? She actually contributed (sadly for her) in one of the most defining moments of English history. Hope it goes well, great choice of subject😁

Well here we are in chilly Cromer, our electric heating has conked out. We decided to have lunch at the Cley Nature reserve cafe, their heating had conked out too. We decided as we were so cold we might as well go for broke and freeze in the name of bird watching. That worked, we did see a lot of wildfowl and the Marsh harrier. We missed the bus and had another hot drink in the cold cafe.

How long will our gas heating last I wonder? We need Bakers2 to sort us out!  wink

Best wishes to all those with ailments and appointments, injuries and all those things we all have to sort out from time to time...

Millie.......I would have thought it should be possible to fit a separate timer clock to your boiler, best person to ask about that is probably an electrician.

In her flat, which was built in 2001, our daughter had a combi  boiler with a built in timer, it was an Ariston boiler.  The timer was only a 24 hour one, and her days were not always the same with lectures etc at University, so I disabled it and instead fitted a separate 7 day CH timer.  It was an easy job.

I would also doubt that it will be impossible to find a replacement for the existing timer, 13 years is not really old for a boiler, we have 2 here which are coming up on 32 years old, and if I remember correctly One Putt has an even older boiler!  Our gas person has said to keep them going if we can as " they do not make them like they used to ".  In that time, one boiler has behaved impeccably, the other has needed a new part in the fan about 25 years back, and I recently had to replace one of the pumps on that system. The pumps are not however part of the boiler itself.

Worth searching yourselves for a replacement timer.

Thanks KjNN That is very interesting.  Our boiler is an Ariston as well.  It has been an excellent boiler so far.  I have told OH and he is having a think.  Having said that he sprayed the time clock with WD40 and it seems to be working!

Brue our heating packed up when we were away in the caravan recently (there seems to be a theme here!) so we went and bought an inexpensive fan heater which worked a treat.  There is a very good caravan accessories shop in West Runton near the fishing tackle shop.  You can get there by bus from Seacroft.

Thanks all for the heating input. We have ordinary gas and before we came here I had thought about packing a fan heater. I spent time in the van yesterday in full cold weather gear,  whilst OH tried to find the problem. He can fix the heater at home, we think and we managed to get it going on the low setting this am. Think it is overheating.

Yes I spot a theme too. wink

Hope your presentation goes well Millie, not easy but "you can do it!" smile

Hope those with heating problems manage to sort them - it's no fun to have a heating problem in this temperature.  My wife tells me I'm always complaining about the cold - and our heating is fine!  Alas, we have one of those combi boiler things, so no doubt we will be down the boiler shop before those with older systems.

This morning I have my usual Friday morning hour with youngers grandaughter while Carol takes the older one to school.  So its Zog again, followed by Stickman.  Marcy now knows the days of the week - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,  Thursday and Zogday.

Sadly  we've decided that to go out in the caravan next week is more than is possible.  We usually do Sunday lunch unntil Wednesday.  Unfortunately, we have a funeral to go to on Wednesday morning (distant family) so we would have to come home on Tuesday.  Arriving at a site on Sunday, probably after dark, and leaving again on Tuesday morning, just leaves us with one day - Moday - so we've decided that wasn't really worth the effort.  So that's our caravanning done until after Christmas.  The busy lead up to Christmas begins next weekend.  Three concerts in 7 days to start, together with 3 practices - just to ease me in gently.  At least I've written the Christmas cards!!

Ordered a new Christmas tree this week - we had the last one for almost 40 years!!  Put it up to check it - the lights are 'integrated' into the tree so thought we'd better check it.  I've decided now it's up, it's staying up!  I'm not packing it away again just to get it out again in a couple of weeks.  It goes up the corner in the conservatory, anyway, so it's not in the main part of the house.

Oh well, onwards and upwards.  Zog has finished.  Stickman on.  Time for a little breakfast before I get geared up for U3A choir.....

    Have a good day everyone.

    Millie

We had our boiler replaced earlier in the year (after 17 years) and it had to be moved to a new location as like you it couldn't just we swapped into the same place. Previously we had a system with a separate water tank and that was all taken out, including the tanks in the loft which were no longer needed as the new boiler is a Bosch Worcester Combi. Thus far its seems very efficient. The heating is better and the hot water pressure, previously gravity fed, is now at mains pressure so we get a decently powerful shower. It will be interesting to see, having invested £4000, whether it is cheaper in terms of energy used. In terms of controls we have the Hive system which is wireless. Also quite handy in that it can be controlled by an App on my phone so when we are away in the winter the day we leave the site I can just up the temperature as we leave so we arrive to a nice warm house. You can also monitor the boiler and house temperature remotely.

That's a bit similar to ours David, except ours is a Vaillant.  We haven't got Hive, though I've thought about getting it - just haven't got around to it.  We're getting on quite well with replacing our light bulbs with Philip's Hue, and I'm expecting a new smart plug this morning, for the Christmas tree- to save me travelling on the floor in the conservatory to switch the lights on.

When we need to replace our boiler, I think we will just stick with the same system we have, which has the stored hot and cold water.  I am not a big fan of combi boilers due to the lack of HW should anything go wrong, I like to have the ability to turn on the electric immersion heater if necessary. Also, we have 3 bathrooms which I feel makes  a combi  unsuitable.

If we were starting from scratch, I would have one of those pressurised systems with stored HW, DD had that in her last house and the showers were excellent, but I would hesitate to install that here in case the CH pipe work could not take the higher pressure.

The combi was great in her little flat as only one shower, short pipe runs, and really no space for tanks.  Her present place is also a flat, but is a sprawling place, some 275 sq. m., and the previous owners fitted a combi despite having 4 bathrooms.  Then they fitted 4 electric showers, which just do not give a decent shower.  DD's next project is to change the shower in their en suite to run off the boiler, which is near to 3 of the 4 shower rooms so should be fine.

The trouble is that you can always over spec everything. However you do need to take into account the use the system will get. The trouble with stored hot water is that it is often not used so is therefore wasteful in energy. For the first five months of using the new boiler our gas consumption has dropped dramatically. We have yet to see if there is a saving on the heating side of the equation and we won't know that until next Spring.  We live in a four bedroomed house but there are only two of us for 95% of the time so keeping to the simplicity of the Combi makes sense. Fortunately both bathrooms have very short runs from the boiler and that was an important consideration when the boiler was re-located. At the point of deciding what boiler to have any estimator should go through the requirements with you so that you understand the different choices. We also have the motorhome at the bottom of the garden should all else fails and BG don't turn up to repair itsmile

We have one of those except we call it the "Mother-in-Law". Not quite the latest technology but gets the job done if a bit expensive to upkeep.

We braved the food aisles this morning. Seemed to be a bi of stocking up for Christmas going on. Caught up with some friends in one of the aisles that live in the village but somehow we haven't seen since last Christmas. How does that happen? There was a nasty incident when one of the staffies that was tied up outside got loose and attacked another dog walking by. Police had to be called. The owner of the attacked dog actually grabbed hold of the staffy and held it tight until the owner could be found.

All this talk of boilers goes right over my head. Our cooking is done on a 70 year old solid fuel Aga. This also heats the water. We also have two wood burners that keep the house warm. Heat flow is controlled by opening and closing doors into other rooms.

    All maintenance done in house!

We managed to visit Norwich today, I've never been into the centre so was pleased to get the train in from Cromer, wow, Anglian trains compared to our West Country Wells Fargo!!

We loved the cathedral and the old medieval area. Had a good lunch in the refectory.

On return we bought a fan heater, the van heating had stopped again, needs must.
