PS I was doing some family history on line recently and I suddenly realised I often looked up what the men did in WW1 and 2 and hadn't looked for the female records. I found my Aunty's records that day (stationed at Oban) so I'm now trying to find my Mum in law's too. Trouble is she used different names as she didn't like her original names and war records are quite casual with names, Harrys and Bills rather than Henrys and Williams!

Had an email this morning from one of the old Arthritis Quiz regulars asking me to run a quiz night for RNLI next year. The three Arthritis branches I ran them for have all folded now so I've had some time on my hands (never a good thing according to Mrs M) so it'll be good to get back in the saddle again!

OH reminded one of our elderly neighbours that we were off to Cromer soon. The reply...."Oh Rome, how wonderful..."
OH spelt it out more carefully C_R_O_M_E_R
Next reply, "oh,
that's a long way to go for the cold.."(I suppose it is isn't it?

Got up this morning and the whole site was covered in frost we had left the heating in the van on overnight so we were warm. Went and had lunch at The Kirkstone Inn we were the first customers of the day but by the time we left the pub was very busy as usual the food was excellent. After lunch we took a drive in to Kendal while SWMBO went around the shops I went and had a pint of Landlord at the newly refurbished Shakespeare Inn they have done a good job although they no longer have a pool table. The drive home wasn’t the greatest as we went up Shap just as the fog descended could hardly see in front of us not ideal. Now back at the van with the heating up full nice and cosey we won’t be venturing out again tonight.
Millie sorry to hear about the accident glad everyone is ok

Lovely day here after a couple of light showers early on.
Took a walk through the woods to the C&MC site, nice site more open than the C&CC one, bit nicer too, pitches bigger and not so 'rustic' if we come here again I think we would use the C&MC site

Did a bit of food shopping as the fridge and cupboards were bare
then a spot of lunch back at the caravan. After lunch drove to Kings Lynn, big mistake as we came back with 3 new pairs of trainers, 2 for me 1 for OH.

I know I've been there before back in 1970 with my parents. We were visiting my Mum's sister and family who lived in Pinchbeck, Nr Spalding. Can't say I recognised anything.Looking at going round the coast tomorrow

Gorgeous if cold day up here. We went to Harrogate to pick up an eBay purchase, but gave the town a swerve and headed off to Fountains Abbey for a walk and some history. Lovely day for it, not many folks around. Stopped off in Wetherby on way home for a meal, a nice day out.

Tammygirl we always use the C&MC site a8s the CC&C looks rather dark - too many trees!
Grand-daughter not too well today. She rang this morning to say she had a funny turn and couldn't drive please could we pick her up from school (she is a teacher) so OH went over and collected her and brough her back here. Apparently she felt dizzy, faint and odd. So I suggested she ring her midwife which she did. Midwife said her last blood count was a bit low and thought that was the reason so to go for another blood test this afternoon. I think it was related to the car accident and that she had a busy and tiring weekend. She carried on with her social activities on Sunday (despite my advice to rest😠). She spent the day at ours resting and had a sleep after lunch and we took her for the blood test this afternoon after which we took her home as her fiance was back from work by then. Hopefully she will be OK tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your accident, millie and that your grand-daughter is not feeling too well. Hope things improve for her tomorrow.
Sounds like a good day out tda. Makes a change from all the rain that you've been having.
Yesterday was dull and a bit wet. Managed to get 3 of the lounge walls painted at last...have had the paint since our autumn trip to Cornwall/Devon last year!! Only managed a short while on CT yesterday because of the football and BBC's 2 evening programmes. Woke to a fine day after a very frosty night. Completed the painting before lunch and then hoovered out the caravan this afternoon.

Been quite nice day here in MK. I even managed to cut the hedge which I have been plucking up the enthusiasm to do for the last few weeks. Fortunately it was just a trim rather than a full cut! Raked up even more leaves.
It has actually been quite a traumatic weekend. Got a phone call on Saturday evening to say eldest son in A&E at MK. He had been out with a friend on his Trail Mountain Bike and came off and hit his head, fortunately he was wearing a helmet. Apparently he was unconscious for a short time. He did have a brain scan which seemed OK. Not only that but he has broken five ribs, his shoulder and the wrist on his other arm. He was discharged today. I think he has been pretty lucky. Knowing him he will be thinking about going to work any time soon!

Just having a quick look in to see what you've all been up to.
Sorry to read about your accident Millie, and about your son DK.
We are up in the Peak District, had a wonderful day out and about on Mam Tor and Lose Hill weather has been great. ☺ Lots of Paragliders over the hills today.
Now making the most of the pubs in Castleton 😉 one more to go!! 😄😄

Nags Head and The George are our favourites! I think Tuesday might be Pie Night at the George!

Crikey DK, that a bit of a pile up! Hope he mends up ok, and that you GD is ok as well Millie.
You sound like us Nellie, we buy paint and wallpaper, but holidays get in the way! Attic is going well at the moment though, and my hedging plants arrive tomorrow, so we shall both be busy!

That sounded nasty David. Good job he had his helmet on.
I've been doing some trimming today as well. The Hawthorn hedge at the bottom of the garden. This was supposed to be done in August and it was the day I ended up in A&E so never got around to it. It had its revenge for every bit of cutting I did. Scratches all over me. I wouldn't mind but its a ratty old thing, I suppose it would feel the same about me.

You've hit lucky with the weather Helen. Nice day for a stroll. I was listening to Ewan Maccoll singing about being a Manchester Rambler today! Good timing.

Just done a little research to calm me down before bed and I've found quite a few posts by said Nelliethedog == think it must just be my age !!
Good night, insulin & bed calling zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Oh goodness David that sounds traumatic. What a worry. I do hope your son will be OK. It seems that Saturday evening was not a good night in MK.
Helen it sounds as though you are having a great time in the Peak District. You are so lucky with the weather. Will you be seeing your son and his girlfriend while you are there?
Good luck with the painting and decorating Nellie. Not our favourite job!
Clearing our loft is still on our 'to do' list' TDA. Well done you.
It has been a beautiful day here today. Wall to wall sunshine although very cold. I can cope with this. I think we might need to de-ice the cars in the morning though!

Sorry to hear about your grandaughter Millie, and your son DavidK. Hope all are recovering now.
Well... I've managed to write all my Christmas cards ready for posting in a few weeks time. I've also done all my concert programmes except one - and still got the Carol service at the Abbey to do. Feeling quite organised.

It’s still not clear Millie. There are currently five cycles up there, plus my work desk, and a lot more “treasure”😂 It’s a big space, OH is on with replasterboarding it out and re insulating it after we had a new roof on a couple of years ago. It’s was relagged under eaves, but he had to have a break due to a couple of illnesses.
He is seeing it as a cycling studio for those days when weather intervenes getting his miles in, while I want somewhere to do my hobbies without a blundering dog taking out my latest creation, a puppy munching things or having to constantly move stuff around. The light is good, we had Velux windows put in, and it’s a stunning place to watch sunsets and other weather. It will of course make a great bedroom come extra living space although I doubt we will ever use it as such. One thing that I think will happen........we have lots of 00 gauge Hornby railway, so we might do a Barter Books and build it around the ceiling! 😁

Those are our favourites too Ttda. A glass of wine in front of a log fire in the Nags Head after a day out walking is bliss. ☺
The George has changed hands recently and I don't think they do Pie night now.😢

Millie we are hoping to meet up with our son and his girlfriend next weekend.
Woke too a hard frost this morning and very misty over the hills. We walked the long way round into Castleton today following the footpath past Dunscar Farm. Visited the church to see the Christmas Trees. The village is so much quieter during the week, site however is almost full still. The Christmas lights are very good as usual.☺

We had our Wedding Night at the Nags Head, complete with pet Rottweiler in tow! Then we headed off in our campervan elsewhere.
Castleton is lovely at Christmas, we spent a nice few Xmas visits with friends there in the past. We used to send the menfolk on to get set up, then the working ladies would get the train out to Hope later.
There’s another nice foodie pub on outskirts of Hathersage, The Scotsman Pack Inn. Plus the Fox House up near Longshaw. Both serve very good food.😁
Hedging arrived this morning, so all hands on deck, spades at the ready, and it’s almost all in now. Looking forward to seeing it in the Spring, a mix of green and purple beech. Lovely healthy plants, fingers crossed they all survive, but we bought a few fillers just in case.🤞

we are just home after a lovely 5 night winter break at Troutbeck Head in the Lake District. We prefer visiting the lakes in the winter as it is much quieter and not so busy also it’s lovely to see the snow on the hills. We had nice visits to Keswick, Kendal and Whitehaven. As usual The Kirkstone Inn was great we had a nice meal and sat at the roaring fire we actually visited twice on this visit. Had an easy 3 hour drive home today there were actually quite a few caravans on the road. Had a bit of hassle when we got home as our next door neighbours are having an extension built and so we had agreed to let them have across from our side to make it easier for them but when we got back a digger was blocking our drive so we had to leave the caravan out on the street for almost an hour. Also the space where they need access is our space for the van so it is currently sitting right in front of our living room window so no view for us but it’s only for a few days so hopefully back to normal for the weekend, the van is filthy so hopefully be able To get it washed and back in it’s space by Sunday. We won’t be away now until after Christmas as we have a lot on although hopefully we can get a few days away between Christmas and New Year just local. We have a mobile engineer booked to service the van next week so fingers crossed that goes ok.
Hope everyone else is having a nice time whether at home or away.1 -
Brilliant day today weatherwise, after a frosty start, the first on this trip.
Took a drive round the coast, first stop Hunstanton. We liked it there
then on to Wells-next-the-sea, stopped for awhile and took a walk across the fens
Lots of birds around and people. Then onto Sheringham for a late lunch, liked it there too, seemed to be a popular place as the town was busy. Last stop was Cromer, then back to the site by the more direct route.
Think this is an area we will definitely come back to, next time in warmer weather and when more things are open.
Not sure what to fo tomorrow could be Norwich OH looking at the air museum.
MillieH, hope your GD is feeling a bit better after her rest.
DK, your sons accident sounds awful hope he recovers well soon.

Glad to see H&T and TG enjoying themselves.
Decided to get out for a walk ourselves today so drove up to Thurstaston on the Wirral, just close to the club site. Walked into West Kirby, then around the marine lake and back again. About 7 miles of restoration to my walking needs. Called in at Parkgate near Neston for a brisk stroll to a coffee house and to do some late afternoon birdwatching. Home to Pea and Gammon Hock soup made yesterday. Yum!
Had a phone call from the hospital when we got home asking me to go in for another more detailed scan. Always something to look forward to.

After hard frost and lovely day here, sun and blue sky’s in East Norfolk. Took brother shopping and then returned home to site. Had a walk to the beach, counted over 20 turnstones. Sorted out the log store in preparation for this coming winter ❄️☃️🌬💨🌊

Milliehull if you missed something so did I- come on takethedogalong put us out of our misery 😂.
DavidKlyne that sounds like a nasty accident I hope your son recovers quickly and takes proper care of himself by resting we only have one body to use!
Milliehull I hope you granddaughter is getting her equilibrium back. Everyone seems in such a hurry these days!
Wherenext good wishes for your scan, glad you got some 'nature' good for the mind and body.
Collected grand dog yesterday, lovely drive in the sunshine through Saffron Walden and onto Cambourne where son works. Took the scenic route as I wanted to check out a jumper in Crew Clothing - the only place in the county with a store. Colour very true to webpage and sizing spot on so I could have ordered online, but I would have missed out on a lovely shopping experience with their 2 lady staff. Saffron Walden is a beautiful old town, wealth came from growing saffron 😉, several years since I 'explored' must get back to check out again on a warmer day with no time constraints! Quick sandwich lunch in the car with son who's suffering with a cold 😢. Called in on mum on the way home so plenty achieved.
HelenandTrevor good to hear from you, your break sounds great.
Tammygirl glad you're enjoying the area, plenty to occupy you in East Anglia and around - generally a drier area 😉
Good to read other's news - my brain can't hold all the info to comment on posts 😉😂 and you cant check back whilst posting - as I have learnt to my cost before 😢😤
Edit we too woke to a very heavy frost. Our hedgehogs are still about and eating well. Often having a warm in one of our houses 😂. Granddog enjoying following their walkabouts in the garden.
