Woke to freezing fog off the lake. Got away before it had cleared but soon drove out of it. Home by 9:45 and van cleared out and washing on before 11:00. Still can't get away from the rain though as we've had an odd short shower throughout the day.

We don't like visiting large cities so we avoid them like the plague, although we do like the smaller ones such as York. Much prefer being out in the country.

Tomorrow my wife goes in to hospital to have her hip replacement operation, so I’ve got a few days of peace and quiet.

    HD

Best wishes to her. It can be a life changing operation, it was for me. Hopefully she will notice an immediate difference, especially in pain levels. To make the best of it you have to encourage her to do all the physio. It will be slow at first. The worse part of it for me was having to sleep on my back for six weeks!! I never sleep on my back!

    Thanks all

it was 2 years ago that she had the other hip done and was back to normal in no time, so she hopes that his one goes straight forward , then she is waiting for the date for her shoulder replacement operation, we spend quite a bit of time at hospitals surprised

Husky glad you're making the most of your retirement hours, it sounds as if you'll be very productive 🥦🥒🌽🍅🍎🍐🥕🥔. It's nice to hear that you'll be sharing the greenhouse 😉😉 just remember to play nicely!

Hope all goes well for Mrs huskydog today and you stay focused on the tasks in hand.

It started raining last evening and continues very softly at the mo. We've had 4 dry days on the trot despite forecasters saying rain, we've been so lucky, my heart goes out to all those affected by the rain.

Must get moving several things to achieve before appointment, then home and visitors. Enjoy your day folks

Went across to the van in storage this morning, before the rain got going. It's been so dull here of late, I wanted to check the solar panels were keeping the batteries topped up,  as there is a constant drain from the alarm and tracker. Pleased to find both were full, so no problems when we want to take it out.

This afternoon it was Sainsbury's and Aldi shopping. The rain really got going when we were in the store, very noisy on the roof. Anyone with Nectar points, might be interested in the double up offer, which is on for the next few days. It applies to many items, including some wines. I put a mention in the wine thread.

The journey home was very very wet, with large lakes in any dips on the road. One of the schools seemed to have turned out early, possibly because of the weather. A young girl suddenly decided to dart across the road in front of me. Fortunately we were only doing about 20 mph and stopped easily. Made the heart beat a bit faster though.

Caught the bus to Staines today so OH has had her retail therapy fix. Weather has been surprisingly benign for our stay here. Off home tomorrow to a DVLA eye test at Specsavers for my licence renewal. Always a bit of a tense time.

We have arrived in the Lakes after an easy 3 hour drive from home very very cold but not raining heating on in van. Site not very busy. We took a drive in to Keswick this afternoon and had a walk around the market lots of Christmas decorations up in the shops this is a lovely part of the world at this time of year. Had a pint and a lovely meal in The Oddfellows Bar in Keswick as always it was great although disappointed to learn the no longer brew Snecklifter Ale.

Torrential rain here (again😱) all afternoon. Must be dreadful for those in flooded areas. Traffic everywhere so roads are obviously closed or flooded as we seldom get a very bad rush hour. On the plus side, at least it isn’t the snow that Wales is having. Don’t think it will be long before we get snow though, temps are getting lower every day. But, I did manage a nice lunch out with Mum, and took her to do a bit of shopping.

Good to hear you are home safe Nellie. Wishing others a warm and dry night as well😁

Our van is stored under cover, so the solar panel is useless. I’m pretty sure that the battery is being drained, as in your case. As it’s an insurance/cover requirement to have an active alarm, taking it away to be recharged isn’t an option. Looks like the only option is to get another battery, and interchange.

A bit surprised this morning, woke up to snow falling. I hope it isn’t a long winter 🙁

Called in on the way back to pick up some more bird food. Beginning to sound like ABM now.

Another dry morning, but still cold. Didn't do much this morning apart from some tidying up in the garden while OH completed the washing. Flu jab in the afternoon after a spot of shopping and make a  couple more appointments, for next week, as we walked trough town.

Hope all that are effected by the rain are safe and sound, and not washed out.

We interchanged the battery for that reason on our caravan (no solar panel) about every 6 weeks. Only problem was carrying / installing the 25kg of battery ☹️ in the tight confines of the storage compound.

Very heavy rain overnight in Brighton but woke to a beautiful but chilly morning.

Left the site heading for the motorway, took us 40 mins to get there due to roadworks. Good drive on the M25 north, couple of numpties doing 45 mph in the middle lane.

We've never been to this site before, Commons Wood,  thought it would be bigger only 44 pitches in the low season.  Yet there are 2 sets of wardens living in mobile homes at the entrance to the site. Big' ish storage area on site. Seems to be fairly quiet to say where it is.

Went to see big brother late afternoon, only got back to site just before 10.00pm. Thought I could talk laughing forgotten were I got it from laughinglaughing

Dry all day here but only 3c as we got back tonight so might get a frost overnight, rain forecast for tomorrow here. Hope there is no more flooding for the poor souls who got hit last week.

Stay safe folks where ever you are.

Yes that’s right lovely site we love coming here although haven’t been here since last September. Keswick is lovely although not very busy today. We always make a point of going in to The Oddfellows Bar while we were there another 4 people asked for a pint of Snecklifter think they have made a mistake not selling it anymore.

Hope you're enjoying your Cumbrian stay Francis, we'll have to wait till spring to get up there once more.

TG we've not tried CW but I had thought about it for an overnight en route to Norfolk, glad you enjoyed seeing your brother!

We went to see "The Lady Vanishes" (Hitchcock play) last night, a classic thirties thriller. It's on tour with Gwen Taylor, Denis Lill and others. They played it in a very thirties "terribly, terribly" clipped style. Good fun, if I'd got us better seats we might have seen what was happening round the corner of the excellent scenery! wink

It’s briefly stopped raining here. Big caravan storage area is flooded though, not far away. More roads closed, but nothing like as bad as last week. Will be cleared quickly. They have managed to get station back open, although how far up the line you can actually get is a bit of a mystery. OH can reclaim all of his rail fare from last weeks trip, as all his trains were cancelled.

Meanwhile, indoor work is ongoing. Our attic is current project.

Most of our interior doors are opened/closed by a sneck.

Photos of both sides of kitchen to hall door.

    Ignore the dust and scrow!

    Work all finished now David.

I do find the layout of the site strange in as much as the h/s pitches are arranged around the far side of the site.

There is a big grass area in the middle which is used in good weather. However there is not a path from the h/s across the grass. The h/s pitches are mostly under the tall trees around the edge of the site, the rest are foward of them but as the trees are blocking the suns path just about all of them are in the shade.

The only place on site that had sun yesterday was the now unused grass area and the toilet block. Could have been layed out better.

Yet another site where all the facilities are roped off at the same time. I can understand why they keep it roped off after cleaning, to allow it to dry. However why rope off the rest until they are ready to clean it.
