I can hear loud bangs and crashes, followed by rubble moving coming from next door! New patio going in........might be time for a tour somewhere until things settle down. We knew it was imminent, just hope they don’t require a radio to chivvy the work along!😱

Saw a clever little  ELECTRIC  JCB  digger on TV yesterday - digging trenches for new pipework and the operator could chat to the reporter without pausing never mind turning the machine off.  I wonder how long it'll be until  KjellNN starts thinking of extending his tool kit wink

Hissing down out of a flat grey sky here in the County Palatine so I'll go away & try to cure that ( Bleep  bleep  bleep ) leak I have discovered on the toilet water feed.  wet  inside, wet outside ==  ain't life fun  yell

Recovering today 😂 after 3 nights at Abbey Wood. We walked miles. The primary reason for the visit was the Antony Gormley exhibition at the Royal Acadeny, which we really enjoyed. However, we also went to the Natural History Museum to see the Moon, Tate Modern and St Pauls. Plus wandering about Oxford Street etc looking at the Christmas lights. I managed to get up the 590 or so steps to the top of the Dome at St Paul's, which gave some fantastic views. You can just see the curve of the dome in the photo of the millennium bridge. Abbey Wood really is a good location for visiting. Easy to get into from the Dartford crossing and fast links into the city. Hopefully it won't get prohibitively expensive for MH's when the  Ultra low emissions zone is extended in 2021.

We always walk miles when we visit London, but it’s the best way to see all the little places of interest off the beaten track. If it wasn’t for our pooch, I could be tempted down, especially in Winter. But god, is it expensive.......food, travel, accommodation, attractions, etc..... you have to do lots of careful research and up front ticketing to save money. We did last time we did a proper planned visit, got into Hampton Court and Tower completely free via Tesco vouchers. But this Summer did an emergency visit to see a dying elderly relative with Mum. Transport in London alone (Mum not fit enough to cope with Underground) ran into treble figures. Mind we were travelling across city.

Glad you had a good time, I love AGs work.😁

OH not able now to do the walking needed to see the "real" London, but do not find the prices of food/transport any more expensive than most big tourist cities, just there is a lot more of it allcool

The food prices at NHM, Tate Modern, Royal Academy and St Paul's, were National Trust plus a bit. So very much what you would expect in London. Quality in all was very good. No discounts on offer for RA but St Pauls was Tesco 3x1. We are still OK on trains and tubes, just as well as the tubes were rammed on Friday evening. Although we were offered ( and accepted ) seats. Must look old 😂. We use a pay as you go visitor Oyster cards. Safer than having to get your credit/ debit card out at every barrier. From Abbey Wood the price was capped at £9.50, which considering how many journeys  we made, I thought very good value. Bus journeys coukd be made using our Nottingham bus passes. However, getting anywhere takes ages.

Enjoyed your photos Steve, you did well seeing so much, the AG exhibition looks really interesting...I wonder how they assembled the large structure, lots of numbered plans maybe! wink

We are lucky in the SW as we arrive by train at Waterloo so we're straight onto the south bank and a short stroll to the Millenium Bridge, the Tate, the Globe theatre, Westminster etc. In recent years I've booked lunches at the Tate and British Museum and they've been good, the Tate Modern has great views over London. After my mishap on the train earlier in the year I was quite pleased to get on the train to Norwich on this recent trip without further problems! So may be I'll brave London once again. smile

The large structure called Matrix III was built off site especially for this exhibition and then assembled. It uses 98% recycled steel and hundreds of thousands of spot welds.😀

JVB, we enjoyed the Cromer Pier Show, the "World's only Christmas Pier Show" just to get the facts right...laughing

It was quite a stormy night so we could see the seas heaving around the Tides restaurant (we had a meal before the show.) A first night performance ensued, packed theatre, thought it was a lovely old building and all very prettily decorated for the festive season. 🎄🎇🎄

Arrived here at Moffat just after 2pm, roads not too busy came up the A1 (M) then crossed on the A66.

Lots of fog around quite thick on the tops. Raining on and off here, could have made it home but we would have arrived in the dark.

Although we've not had the best of weather we have enjoyed being away, which is what we needed.

Best of weather was in Brighton and Norfolk,  although we've not had a day when we couldn't get out at some point.

Luckily we never got caught up in the floods, not one site was booked in advance just turned up on the day.smile

Car and caravan are filthylaughing hoping for some mild dry days once home,  doubt it but you can always hope laughing

Had a distinct lack of energy these last few days. Most unlike me. I think Mrs WN has taken the key out and hidden it and forgotten to wind me up.smile

Haven't done a great deal apart from walking around the lanes near the village and a bit of food shopping. Doesn't feel like the lurgy coming on. Maybe I need to eat a few more Oranges.

Mrs WN and MiL have a weekend break coming up this weekend, touring some of the Christmas markets in Yorkshire so I'll be looking after myself. She is good to her mum as she hates markets (or shopping of any kind) whereas MiL would happily spend hours perusing them.

We love Moffat such a nice town and the site is handy for the shops pubs ect. When we got back from the Lake District last week our car and caravan were filthy too just all the road dirt. Weather was ok on Saturday afternoon so got them both washed then. Won’t be away again for a while now unfortunately so it was good to get the van cleaned for the winter.

Another dark damp day here, but filled it with useful things. Attic coming along😁😁, bit of domestic goddess work☹️, some present wrapping☹️☹️, dog walk😁🐾🐾😁. Just planning a nice evening meal, squid ink pasta with seafood and a cheese sauce! Yummy.

Just having a chuckle about an 82 year old female whose home was broken into in US. She is elderly but a super fit body builder, after she had finished with intruder he was carted off by emergency services. I’d call that justice😂

TG - They are under strict instructions not to buy me anything. Saves me having to say nice things and then find a charity shop outside of our area to give it to sometime next year when they're away on holiday.wink

Sitting here with no mains water! Apparently a burst water main nearby. Funnily enough a new neighbour, well she has been there two years and this is the first time she has spoken, asked me if we had water. I went off to check and said yes and thought nothing more of it. As the afternoon wore on, less and less pressure! It's supposed to be back on by 11.00 pm hopefully. We have a few bottles of bottled water so enough for tea and coffee. We gave up buying bottled water to do our bit for the environment and now only use it in the van. Its raining so the buckets will be filling up if we need to flush the loo!!! Otherwise quite a productive day as we took the first steps towards a new kitchen today.

Hope that you're soon feeling more like you old self WN. With Mrs WN away it's a good excuse to have a long lie in and aid your recovery, unless that is that she's left you a long list of jobs to get done during their absence.

Yet another miserable day weather wise. Two more appointments completed today, Flyte to the vet for his yearly booster and a visit to the dental hygienist. I came away from there with yet another appointment, this time with the dentist on Wednesday as I've another cavity that needs filling!yell Fingers crossed for tomorrow as we are hoping that the guy will be here to move the gas meter and fit our smart meters, at the 3rd time of asking!

David, we've had e-mails from our water supplier concerning burst mains twice since we've come home, but thank full we've not suffered any drop in water pressure. The whole estate is having it's gas mains replaces and the chaps doing it have broken through the water mains at least 3 times so far!!

Spent today fixing the floor and painting at DD's house, arms now very tired!

Lifted the saggy bit of floor, an infill bit of ply that was not even fixed down, and found the problem.  It sits over an old concrete foundation which previously supported an internal wall, and the concrete is not totally level, so the piece of ply was "tipping" to one side.  Made a couple of wedges to support it at the correct level and screwed it firmly back in place, hopefully a good repair.

The afternoon was taken up with painting 2 walls and one side of the ceiling, looks much better now.  DD is now considering whether to leave it white (yes, please!!) or go for the planned pale blue.

Colour she wants is not stocked at our local DIY shed, so that may influence the decision.

We had the same problem too a few weeks back.... they ended up putting traffic lights at the entry to our estate while they dug up the road.  If the water goes off and you can't have a cup of tea,  open a bottle of wine!  laughinglaughing

Glad it's all sorted now David

Our water was turned off when we were away, we knew about it beforehand and expected to come back to a flow of sludge from the taps but it was all ok. Good to hear yours is working now DK.

A very dark, wet, windy morning here, the only one who will appreciate the great outdoors will be the cat when he returns from the cattery. wink

Do hope WN had a recuperation day and the shoppers enjoyed their trip out.

I have got to sort out the room I'm in just now, since my son swiftly took the old pine dresser on offer from us I bought a cupboard which unfortunately won't house all the contents of the dresser (my mistake. frown) So I've got to have a rethink, surrounded by stuff that has nowhere to go and I've cleared out quite a bit too.

It seems, according to our local Facebook Group, that a few people in our grid square still having problems with their water. There seems to have been two leaks. We are now signed up for email alerts and have already had a couple this morning so the system seems to be working.

After several days of wet, grey, dreary weather, the sun has finally put in an appearance down here in Cornwall. We had Perranporth beach pretty much to ourselves this morning. Got to make the most of it - according to Madame Kirkwood there's more rain and wind heading our way!  surprised

Decided that as most of the leaves had now fallen i would use my leaf blower and pile them up to be collected into our brown recycle bin, which was fine until there was lots of movement under the ones near the fences and about 7 frogs hopped out,so have now decided not to bother any more until the spring,as there may be more and give those that have been disturbed a nice and bigger pile to return tosurprised

And save the planet by using less electricwink
