Good news CY. Driving licence renewals can be a bit stressful. Happy travel planning.
I hope you enjoyed listening to Peterborough Cathedral choir ABM. Our eldest son was in the choir in the 1980s but sadly we have no recordings of him singing as no CDs were recorded during his years of service.
My Katharine talk went well on Wednesday evening but annoyingly I ran out of time. I have since been asked to help at the Katharine of Aragon festival in January. I dont know whether to be pleased or absolutely terrified π±

Well done millie on being asked to help at the KoA festival & glad that your talk went well.
Good to hear that you've got another 3 yrs on your license, CY.
JVB & WM, where have you been for the last week or more to not know it was BF today, hiding in a cellar without EHU? Apart from the bombardment of ads on TV there's even been posts on CT about it.
A glorious but cold day here, after a heavy frost last night. Managed to get a good few smallish jobs done and completed the polishing in the van, so nearly ready for the off again. After all our concern regarding the digging up of our road to install a new gas main it now appear that they may not be doing our section of the road as the main is too deep for the squad that doing the work, so it may be postponed for a long while, fingers crossed.

Had a round of golf this morning, first time in well over week, following my injury (fell down and twisted my ankle) and days of wet weather. After that, popped into where the caravan is stored and switched the battery for a new one that arrived yesterday. I put the replaced battery on charge, to discover that is was well down on power. The van is equipped with a solar panel, but as itβs stored undercover, the panel is useless.

Thanks WN, but canβt do nowπ We have chosen Sites earmarked, if we can get over the Peak District to tβother side, then we shall be ok. Can cope with wind and rain, snow will beat us though!π

Heavy frost this morning - 8c, frost still on cars and garden so still below 0c. Blue skies and beautiful sunshine so not complaining.
Finished emptying caravan off items we keep indoors over winter, all cushions pulled away from outside walls, lockers and cupboards open. Taps in kitchen and bathroom frozen in open position, van all drained down so hoping they will be ok.
Eldest son came up on the train yesterday for the weekend, his youngest (boy) has his 'rookies' parade at school tomorrow, afterwards he will be a fully fledged 'Victorian'
Son has 'borrowed' one of our cars so he can get around while here, as both his children are out of school until tomorrow morning, when he has to have them back by 9am so they can get ready for the parade and church service.
We can go along at a more respectable time of 10.30
then all out for lunch before taking Son back to train station for him to head back down south.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Very cold start to the day with heavy frost on our first Rosa walk but we both came back dry and mud free for the first time since getting home from our last trip
Walked to Christmas fair at our local church St Johns Digswell (centuries old) it was in grounds of the original manor house which has now been extended and is split into several luxury apartments and houses
Took Rosa out again at lunchtime and the frost was still on the fields, where the low sun does not reach this time of year,so were still mud free
looking to be mud free again when on her last daylight walk at about 1530

Sounds like you'll all be busy this weekend TammyG, have to say -8C is a bit chilly!
Good to hear CY has the ok to proceed with travel planning and also Millie has impressed with the history talk...
Decided to go to a tree farm for a Christmas tree this morning, our previous pot grown one lasted quite well but didn't survive the dry summer, must use better tactics next time. Anyway, loads of people had the same idea but it was nice to be surrounded by Christmas trees!
We then went onto a garden centre, where we met half the village looking for a bit of extra sparkle β¦ expensive sparkle when I added up all this morning's purchases. π

Feeling very Christmassy here. We finished our Christmas shopping this morning. π₯³ (apart from presents for each other, which tend to be bought after Christmas as we also both have December birthdays π) We went to OH Christmas βworks doβ last night which was really nice to have in November before all the madness starts in December. It was at a local tapas spanish restaurant so lots of sangria was drunk....π€ͺ. Weβve just got the Christmas tree down from the loft to find both sets of lights have given up. π€¨ Iβm not surprised as theyβve not been used for at least three years as weβve been away in the caravan each year. Off to the shops tomorrow to buy some more.

Popped into Perth mid afternoon to fill up my car as I will need to use it tomorrow now that son has nicked the other one
stopped off at big sis for a cuppa and for OH to help sort their antenna in the loft, seems BIL must have knocked it when up there.
Temp was at -2c that was at 16.30
its going to be a cold night.
Think I need to look out the boots and thermals for the parade at Dunblane tomorrow, its always cold there but I think tomorrow might just be flipping freezing Brrrrrr.

Things a bit odd here, my mum died on Thursday. We'd spoken in the morning and she said she had been dizzy getting up- not unusual at times these days. Had got washed dressed etc and downstairs and was cosy. Wasn't anything I could do if I went over. She said our gifts, (tubs of sweets I'd shopped for her and money in envelopes - I presume and cards all in Christmas bag) for next time we went over but she didn't feel Christmasy.
Couldn't raise her in the afternoon went over and she'd passed away. Had to have emergency ambulance, 2 crew plus 2 paramedics turned up in separate cars! 2 police officers, what a waste of resources π² despite it being very clear she'd passed away very peacefully quite sometime previously. Now waiting on the coroner. Peaceful end to a long, 89 years last month, happy life. Living in the same house for almost 64 years! Plenty of stuff to sort there! π²π²
She'd written and addressed - over 100 Christmas cards, stamps bought but fortunately not on the envelopes yet.
Been very cold and bright here today but not as cold as Tammygirl ββ. Good to read everyone's news.
Milliehull when is the Katharine of Aragon thing? I'd love to come. Love the Tudors and Henry VIII period in particular.
JVB couldn't agree more regarding dry frosty dog walking. Unfortunately thawed here early so only managed one today .
Stay warm folks and enjoy life - it's very precious.

So sorry to hear your news Bakers2, it must have been a shock to find your Mum. A peaceful end for her but sad circumstances for you to adjust to over the coming days. My sympathies to you, I'll be thinking about all the things you have to do now, take care.

Gosh, what a shock for you Bakers. I am very sorry to hear you have lost your Mum, but it sounds like she died peacefully and quietly after a very long life. Very sad though, and somehow makes it a little worse coming up to Christmas. I hope you get things sorted out ok, you have had a couple of dreadful years.
Sounds like your talk was a great success Millie. I would love to come to the K of A celebration at Peterborough as well, will have to look up dates in January.
Very cold here today, after a heavy frost, it warmed up enough to get above freezing, but itβs back down at -1c now here, and still dropping. Sooner this than all the gloom and rain though.

Just checking in to catch up with the news.
Sorry to read the sad news Bakers my condolences to you and the family.
It's been cold but sunny today, finally finished sorting the caravan ready for the winter. We won't be away any more this year, no free weekends and no holiday left now.
Went to a local Christmas Market in the village church but it was a bit disappointing this year. Then it was a trip to Wickes to pick up new flooring for our lounge, extra 15% off today. The plan was to try and get it done before Christmas but it may not be finished. π Haven't started due to my cold which I have also passed on to Trevor now!π²
Nellie thought I read a post asking where we stayed in the peak District, couldn't find it now, but we had a few days at Castleton making the most of the mid week discount and also a few days at Blackwell Hall.
Keep warm folks.

My dear little brother has taken all the paperwork and is sorting, I'm so grateful. We, me OH. brother and sister in law, were over there today gathering important stuff! I was looking for her wedding dress, my sister in law and I couldn't believe the amount of bed linen and towels we found πππ, comes of being a child raised during rationing! I'm sure the local homeless shelters and animal rescuers will be overstocked when the time comes!
Brother and I have plenty of 'suggestions' at least 6 hymns several poems and readings I reckon the order of service will come with a health and safety disclaimer! I spoke to her priest in charge tonight, they've been without an encubent for several years, he sounds wonderful. Despite the village Church being clearly seen from her chair in the lounge where we all worshipped she went back to her childhood Church 2 miles away for many years and will join my dad there in due course.
Clearing the house will be hard, as it is for anyone, but we have no time pressures and hopefully they'll be happy memories as well as the sadness. I actually feel quite calm unlike when dad went 18 years ago, but his last year's had been hard. I have my moments, generally at something unrelated. Or maybe this year has taught me valuable lessons??

Sorry to hear your news, B2, what a shock for you. Please accept my condolences. I guess you'll have busy time sorting out her house, as well as all the other things associated with a parent's demise.

Another fine day after another heavy frost through the night. We found the pavements were rather slippy for our walks this morning and the grassy areas are still soft but not too muddy. A gentle breeze got up during the afternoon and the temperature rose enough to melt nearly all of the frost. We have competed all the jobs on the van so it's ready for the off, probably in a week or so.
Helen, we know Blackwell Hall well, having stopped there a few times in the past. Good walking and cycling from the site. Hope that you and Trevor are soon over your colds.

Terrible news B2 thoughts with you and the family
TG we have drained our van down too ready for winter we normally get away in December but circumstances this year have dictated that it will be February at the earliest before we get away again.
