Oh Bakers. What a dreadful year you've had. I thought I was having a bad one but yours seems so much worse. My deepest sympathy.

Funny old day. Did a few jobs around the house and some work on the caravan to get it ready in case we get away around hospital appointments. Speaking of which, I received confirmation in the post of my appointment for a PET scan, a week on Tuesday. I hadn't realised the complexity of the scan. It's timed for 8.30am which means a very early start from here to get to Wrexham as I need to be there an hour beforehand. No eating or drinking. But its the timing that is the crux of things here. The scan involves injecting a tracer which contains a radioactive fluid into you and you must allow half an hour for it to pervade your body. The tracer only has a shelf life of 2 hours and is made in Preston, some 60-70 miles away from the hospital so as soon s its made it is transported to Wrexham. If there is a delay anywhere or if the tracer fails in its production, which apparently happens more than one would like, then the scan is called off. I've had to get Kidney specialists involved to ensure I'm ok to have it but apparently they think its alright. I'll just have to make sure that I'm not the one that is delayed. Mrs WN doesn't do any travelling, apart from ferry ones, before 7am so I won't have to worry that she will be alert enough to come with me.smile Isn't life complicated? I sometimes think a bit of joined thinking might help, like having the scan done in Preston but they don't have a scanner on a regular basis as it travels around. Oh well, best just get on with it.

Cold here all day as fog was slow to lift.

Thanks Wherenext, you can generally find someone having as difficult if not harder time than you 😉.

Good luck with your scan, it all sounds liking timing is crucial fingers crossed for clear roads for all concerned on the day as well as favourable weather conditions.

Ps Mrs wherenext sounds very like my OH on starting the day! I think that's one thing that has got much worse that since his events and I don't find that easy, especially during these short days 😤

Hope the timing works out for you WM. I thought my 8:30 appointment at the dentist, which is only a 10 min drive from home, was early! Rather you than me, in more ways than one. Will have fingers crossed for you on the day.

Normally Bakers I'm awake and chomping at the bit to get up even in winter before 7am but just lately my sleeping has been all over the place and I find I could get up at 4am, having been awake for an hour or so but if I drop off again after 5am then I "sleep in". It's most frustrating if I have to be somewhere early as I've had to learn how to set an alarm clock again.smile Mrs WN not amused as her time clock is completely different from mine.

I couldn't possibly comment, especially in view of an earlier comment that could have been misconscrewed embarassed

But that sounds very familiar. Opposite rolls at the other end of the day as I put the matchsticks to good use 😂😂

If I was nearer you know I'd be only too pleased to oblige, but I'd have to set off about 3:00 am to be there in time to take you to Wrexham, and I'm no longer keen of driving in the dark. 7:00 is about the earliest I get up these days, and that's not very often.

Oh Bakers2 I am so very sorry to hear the sad news of your Mum.  What a shock for you.  It sounds like a peaceful end for her but so very difficult for you to cope with. I am sure you will be glad to see the back of 2019. As others have said take all offers of help and take your time.  My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know you have a difficult time ahead of you.  When my lovely Dad died and I was doing the clearing and sorting of their belongings it was the silly little things that set me off. The things I remembered from my childhood. I still have some of them as I can't bear to part with them. Don't be too quick to get rid of everything.

The K of A commemoration festival is 23 - 26 January. I hope I will only have a minor role as I am still 'in training'.

Best wishes for your scan WN.I hope the timings work out OK. OH was radioactive after his bone scan in the summer which meant he had to keep away from our pregnant grand-daughter for a while.

It has been a very cold, frosty and foggy day here. Eldest son went to a football match this afternoon and sent a hilarious photo. I don't think the players would see each other!!

I have at long last made the Christmas cake today. At least I managed to get it made before December (just!)

Very cold here today, first day in ages that we have had the heating on all day.

After a late start and a leisurely breakfast we have made the most of our "day off" by doing the laundry, defrosting a freezer, making a big pot of soup and relaxing.  Tomorrow we will be making yet another trip to Ikea for items for the current project so the work can continue as planned on Monday.

All 3 tall units are now fixed in place, so time to move on to the new lights and painting the ceiling.......not one of my favourite tasks!

Deepest Sympathy, B2 It always comes as a terrible shock even if it is expected.

When my father died a good few years ago the 'attendance' was of similar numbers.  Emergency Doctor & separately a two man ambulance under blue lights. When it was obvious that nothing could be done, the ambulance crew left but the police arrived as I believe, is pretty standard for such unexpected cases. After that the Doctor left only to be replaced by the undertakers.  When all was satisfactorily cared for only the police stayed --  just long enough to empty the tea-pot !

And that's just to show that I remember everything that took place nearly 20 years ago, so don't fret if you keep getting memories popping up at strange times -- it will happen and is only natural.

Thoughts with you & Mr B2,

    Brian

I got an early birthday card today  which turned out to be my 6 monthly " You are hereby requested to obtain a sample tube  ,, ,, ,, ,,  etc etc, fill it first thing and return it to your preferred surgery BEFORE 11:00 THAT DAY ".  Some Diabetic Clinicians are forever extracting the  .. .. .. .. .. from me these days frown

Suppose that'll be yet another rollicking on my Medical History chart for the surgery clerks to giggle over embarassed

Hard frost yesterday but a perfect sunny winters day. Had a walk to the beach, clear, cold air which made for good, long distant views out to Scroby Sands where through the bino's I could see seals hauled out basking.  How is it that if i ever watch a fishing programme the presenters always tell me how environmentally friendly fisher folk are.  Well thats not true of the sea fishing fraternity here.  Yesterday I picked up and binned over 20 yards of discarded fishing line and lots of bait wrapping paper. Rant over.

WN - good luck with the scan

PS have looked out of doors to see what the weather is like today

Stunned pigeon 😲. Great outline though! We've had similar, but not such a clear outline, generally when the sparrowhawk comes through.

Again thanks for all your kind words.

ABM I phoned mum's GP as she'd been the previous Friday for the 2nd time that week,  I expected an out of hours doctor and the police. Instead we tied up an ambulance and crew, who arrived within 15 minutes, plus 2 separate paramedics although they went quite swiftly, for 2.5 hours - they had to stay until the police arrived. I had to keep the 999 call open until the ambulance entered the house. A few weeks ago a young lad who got knocked off his bike had to lie on the road for 4 hours locally 😲. The police were with us for almost 2 hours as it was a busy night and their control forgot to call the coroner's undertakers, who did come very quickly. All in all 6 hours.

B2. It's one of those things that happens when someone dies unexpectedly. I remember the same happening to a friend in our village but in some ways having the response people around her after her husband suddenly died helped with the initial shock. I spent quite a bit of time mulling over things when I lost my Mum last year, all the "what if's" because she was taken ill very suddenly and nothing really prepares you for these events.

We had a spate of Kamikaze Pigeons hitting our bedroom window a few years ago. Decided on installing vertical blinds and that seems to work as a deterrent or just lets them know there is a window there. They always seemed to hit the window the day after I cleaned them.

Lovely sunny but cold day here so I weather proofed a couple of fencing panels that badly needed it. Didn't think I was going to get around to it this year but better late than never.

We occasionally get the “ghost” print on the windowpane. Usually a wood pigeon, or a collared dove, and they are usually fine. But we sadly found a beautiful little goldfinch dead on our patio one morning. We have put those bird silhouettes on all windows now, which has helped.

Just returned from dog walk, went a little later and omitted the park, so it was dark our church has organised advent windows in the parish. First one at the church hall lovely surprise all 5 windows facing the road decorated 😃. Tried to photograph on my phone not easy with dog lead too! All dig walks will be taken via the windows as another joins in.

I almost volunteered to do our window for it - so glad I didn't in view of recent events. Maybe next year.

Lovely crisp sunny winters day here today, -5c as we left home this morning at 09.30 to drive through to Dunblane for our Grandsons parade and church service.

Temperature rose to a balmy -2c by the time we got to the school.  By 10.30 when they marched on to the parade square, led by the schools pipes and drums, it had managed to rise to 1c.

All the boys and girls did very well, they have only been there since the end of August and learnt how to do drill so well, even going from slow march to quick march without a hitch. Some very proud Mums, Dads and grandparents. Many of them serving or ex service themselves so appreciate how hard they have worked.

Afterwards at the church service, all the P7s ( rookies) had a part to play, from reading poems to prayers and singing in the choir. Our grandson did one of the readings and sang in the choir so Dad and Grandparents very proud.

Took them out to lunch afterwards then off to the railway station with our Son for him to head back down to Wiltshire, he should be home just after midnight. In 11 days time he has to drive back up to collect the 2 of them as they finish school on the 13th December this year.

Crafty pair they are, as after Dad went they both remembered they needed tuck, they must think we are soft or something (their dad went to the same school)  it worked of course laughing quick trip to Tesco's.

Back home by late afternoon, roads were already getting slippy again, supposed to get milder overnight here though so maybe more leaf raking tomorrow.

We get birds hitting the windows some times usually in the Springtime though, I've got bird stickers I put on the windows that don't have blinds.

Interesting early start to the day when we were woken by the windows of the house rattleing have since found out it was sonic booms from two Typhoon fighters going supersonic to intercept a commercial aircraft in uk airspace not in radio contact with ATC surprised

Not as cold today so a muddy walk againfrown

Out to Dinner at OHs son and partner , lovely as she is a great qualified Chef smile

Not a great journey home in the dark which involves country lanes and bright modern headlights on cars coming the other way( I try to avoid night driving now unless roads well lit)undecided
