Thanks brue. It’s a lovely morning here, hard to believe what last night was like. Currently trying to figure out if OH will get to Birmingham tomorrow, as rail lines around us all under water. It’s not much better further South in Derbyshire and Notts either......

Feeling a bit like a zombie, this morning after the carbon monoxide alarm went off (at home) at 0230 this morning. The wood burning stove had died down and a northerly gale was coming straight off the sea and down our chimney - at least I think that was what was causing it. Of course, you can't silence those things, so after opening windows and waving it around a bit - it did stop, only to start again a few minutes later. Gave up trying to get back to sleep about 3.30 - so I'm suffering now

It''s a good job we've got one fitted, though.

Spoke to youngest son last night after reading about the flooding in Sheffield. The company he works for are at Meadow Hall. Thankfully they sent all the staff home at 2pm, he lives just outside Penistone so had an intetesting drive home, kids collected from their schools. DIL also managed to get home from Sheffield without incident.
This morning parents and younger vhild still at home but eldest one went to school with dad's help.
No rain here overnight but believe we are getting it tomorrow

Pretty chilly here now after lovely sunshine earlier on, don't think we will take the bikes now as it looks like it could rain

Queue started at site office already, the female here is a bit of a stickler for timings I think. I went over to the block to do a bit of hand wash this morning all doors locked
approached female member of staff about getting access to laundry.Closed for cleaning she says until 12.00, it was just after 11.00 and she was doing toilets, I asked politely if I could just do a few smalls by hand in the laundry room sinks which hadn't yet been 'cleaned' NO says she, then turned and walked away

Now I'm not unreasonable and understand that facilities require cleaning but to deny access to each and every facility all at the same time appears to me to be unreasonable. I've never come across this before, they are usually done one after the other so that the least disruption is caused. Washing done in van

Bit of lunch then off out to look around.

Disappointing phone call this morning to say that the Barbados leg of our February holiday has had to be cancelled!
Offered the 2 weeks in St Lucia instead but I can't see there being enough to do there to keep us interested for a fortnight so will probably ask for our money back and start looking again. We have this weekend away in the Cotswolds with Mrs M's two sisters and OHs to look forward too - conversation on any subject beginning with the letter B has been officially banned!

We've had a shower here, grabbed washing in 😉. Bright and chilly start, frost on hedgehog water at this end of the garden but not on bird bath at the bottom of the garden. Probably less exposed, about the same depth but bird bath has larger surface area. Was dry yesterday too despite forecast. Don't expect it to last over the weekend
Hope all those who are in or live in the high rainfall area are not too badly affected.
Moulsey sorry to read about your holiday plans - was it to be part of a tour rather than stand alone?
Had a determined attempt to replace our toilet seat, it slide from side to side. Neither I nor OH could work out how to remove old one 😤😤. Luckily the plumber who fitted it lives opposite, now retired, so I popped over for guidance. He came later and showed us that you did from the too by lifting the fitting cover! One side had to be cut off as it had broken, causing the issue! He very kindly removed and fitted the new one whilst we both observed. I hadn't realised how simple jobs aren't as simple as they appear and now my DIY king isn't so capable I wonder who one gets to do such things? I'm a have a go merchant.
Sorted out house insurance, gone back to LV. (We do get discounts on LV) Good quote and cover, we only changed because they have 60 day limit for unoccupied house and we needed 90 days in 2018. Renewal via the other club almost £100 more for extremely similar cover. After the appalling claims handling I experienced earlier this year, didn't follow the claim through but sorted ourselves, wouldn't have renewed with the same very well known insurance company. I worked for one part of them many years ago before they merged. Weren't cheap but always fair with claims. Lady I spoke to at the other club wanted to know and I told her she wasnt impressed and said how much premiums had gone up, ours over £50 on last year!
Took a great photo if one of our hedgehogs feeding in their box last night 😀
Nice to catch up with folks news, read a while ago and so I won't remember who/what/where 😂😂. Must head off and prepare dinner, lunch was scrappy 😱

"Moulsey sorry to read about your holiday plans - was it to be part of a tour rather than stand alone?"
Well the idea was to have a week wildlife viewing in St Lucia then a more relaxed week in Barbados. I really don't think there's enough in St Lucia for a fortnight's stay - we're not ones to spend a lot of time around the pool/bar - so we'll have to look elsewhere. I've seen a couple of possible alternatives in a completely different part of the world but Mrs M will have the final word!

Bit annoying AD as there is no reason to do so, never come across it before, still not end of world

Caught the news at lunchtime and saw all the flooding across Yorkshire, Derbyshire. If we had stayed with our original plan we would have been at Poolsbrook, think we had a lucky escape there. We have heavy rain coming our way tomorrow morning hoping it passes by afternoon.
We did go for a walk along the canal towards Devises, don't think it would have been a problem on the bikes, seems fairly flat for most of it. Path not that great until you get to the first lock and you cross over to the other side, than its wider and better surface. Didn't go all the way as I had new boots on and developed a sore little toe
will need to put a plaster on it
Not sure how long we are staying M, we are booked in until Sunday but know we can extend if we want. Might go to Brighton for a few days before turning round and starting our way back north. Need to be home for the 27th at the latest as I have an appointment on the 28th.
This trip is just a taster of places for future longer stays and to find out if we want to tour at this time of year in the UK.

Thanks for update heddlo, I think the worst has moved further South down towards Matlock/Derby area now. Our station is closed until Monday, all lines in are under water, but if I can get OH to another station, hopefully his train journey tomorrow can happen. It will be a diversion round Derby though I think, so going to be interesting. Friends sent a photo to us of what is happening at the end of their paddock, and the River has now created a lake, water level is 15 feet (😱) above the normal level. We have checked on other family members who live lower than we do, and they are hanging on dry at the moment. Fingers crossed.🤞

TG - assuming it's raining tomorrow and you don't get out on the bikes, maybe a drive out would be in order. You'd could do Bradford on Avon to Corsham to Biddestone (one of the prettiest and most underrated villages in the area) to Lacock and back to Devizes - chance for a stroll in all of those if there's a break in the showers!

We’re back from Norfolk. No Wi-fi on site so I’ve been trying to catch up on pages of posts. We’ve really enjoyed Norfolk. Thank you’s must go to Wherenext and Oneputt for their suggestions to visit Cley Nature Reserve. It was lovely. We got there just as it started raining, so grabbed a window seat and had a drink while we waited for the rain to stop. We walked along Holkham Beach (another cafe worth visiting with a log burning stove) and Weybourne Beach. We also had a meal in The Dun Cow pub in Salthouse (dog friendly). Very good food and atmosphere, with locals and visitors mixing together. Now back home with the washing pile and thoughts of work on Monday morning....... 😕

Another sunny day here, but pretty chilly, about 3 degrees I think.
Some shopping in the morning, we just got a new huge Aldi, opened yesterday, so we went to take a look, seems very nice, and was very busy.
DD has half day on a Friday, so after lunch the 2 of us got out the ladder to climb up and push some slipped roof tiles back into place. Then we removed the utility room units ready for the next step.
Tomorrow morning they will come and help me load my heavy bandsaw into our car to take down to their house as there are several new units that need to be reduced in depth. Things are never simple it seems!

Busy morning in the local town followed by actually getting around to cleaning the car following the recent break. After lunch the 2 ladies went craft shopping whilst I tackled the cleaning of the caravan, or at least tried to as I was stopped on 4 different occasions by neighbours who hadn't caught up with me since our return so a 45 minute job took 2 and a half hours!
Still it was a lovely sunny afternoon so quite enjoyable. I now know all of the local gossip, some of which may even be true.1 -

One would think that working in the service industry requires at least a reasonable level of civility. Sometimes one could be forgiven for thinking they’re doing you a favour

It started off sunny this morning, and the wind had dropped, but it was still chilly. Drove through to Skipton, stopping off at Rohan in Long Preston to pick up some new trousers. It clouded up during the early afternoon and we even had some flakes/splashes of sleet as we headed back. Sites booked for X-mas & New Year just have to sort out those before and after now.
Sorry to hear that you're trip to Barbados has been cancelled, M. hope that you can find a good alternative.
Fingers crossed that OH is able to get through to Birmingham tomorrow, tda, and that your family members don't suffer from the floods.

M, thanks for the rainy day suggestion OH says he will look at that on his map book tomorrow as they are in the car. Sorry to hear Barbados has been cancelled, hope you get a suitable replacement.
ADD, glad you enjoyed Norfolk, we sre still looking at doing it on our way north.
Chilly here tonight and we had a good sunset, hope tomorrow is not as bad as forecast

Skipton is a lovely town, well worth a few days itself. We think best Club Site for seeing town is Bolton Abbey, it’s a short 20 minute scenic drive in, best parking is up by Castle, plenty of room for big vehicles in Foregate car park. BA has stunning walks direct from Site, with Barden Tower an easy mile or so walk. However, if you fancy a very nice CL, a little bit further from Skipton itself, out in lovely countryside, check out Seat House. It has good clean loos and showers, included in price. Another place to try, meal or just an ice cream is Billy Bob’s Diner, close to Bolton Abbey station. We popped in and were amazed at food and ice creams. Does get busy though😁 There’s a stunningly beautiful drive across Moors to Settle from Seat House, some great picnic spots and waterfalls.

+1, Scaleber force waterfall is stunning set in its own valley but access is not for the faint hearted or less sure footed, in fact part Goat would give the best chance of staying upright. . .Well worth the trek mind.

OHs train cancelled, but it’s basically a free for all, so he’s hopped on another train, so happily on his way to NEC. Still lots of flooding around us, have to choose your routes carefully, but the clean up has started. Fabulous sunrise, thick freezing fog lying in valley bottoms, adding to the mayhem today.

Yes, very beautiful. That’s the way we drove into Settle, via Airton from Seat House. Tight squeeze mind with MH into Settle😁

Not the greatest photo to give the best view but it gives a feel for the Autumnal beauty👍🏻.

Lovely. I think I have just found a Winter Cottage to explore up there, taking Mum and Sister. We like to play in the snow!😁

We had one for 9 of us in the South Lakes area-stunningly beautiful. The area carries that haunting look in the winter too. It’s hard to explain it, it’s a-when you experience it you’re either hooked or hate it, hooked has you fixated on the need to return😊

Flipping hissing it down here this morning, got to go out at some stage for food.
Is there anywhere where its not wet? Due to move on in the next day or so, so looking for somewhere less wet. Don't think much to the weather this month so far, definitely putting us of touring in the uk.

Still dry here, despite the forecast for rain, but very cold. Heavy bandsaw eventually squeezed into car once wheels were removed, and now safely in DD's garage ready for use.
Day at home today, keeping warm, but will go down to DD's tomorrow to make a start on a few things.
The old units from her utility room were put on Gumtree last night and she had 15 replies within minutes. Person supposed to come to collect tomorrow, and will take the rest of the units later when we get round to removing them. Just hope this person does turn up, not every experience with Gumtree is a good one!

Essex is still dry 😀. Turned grey now and its chilly. Forecast according metcheck, usually reliable for here, dry days until Friday HERE Come and join us, sadly theres only the other club site at Kelvedon but lots of CL & CS. Suffolk may well be dry too!
Seriously Essex is one of, if not the, driest county. It's why Beth Chatto created her dry garden. Often compared to the Sahara for dryness, but I can't offer proof 😂😂.
It's a shame you're experiencing so much rain, although we did in October 😱, might just be this year - certainly was exceptional here, as Devizes area is lovely, a site I always wanted to return to.
