Wet for most of the day, so not a lot done. Couple of walks from site before lunch then drove over to Jervaulx, to view both the CL and the Abbey. Then onto Middleham for a wander round the village, unfortunately the Castle was closed.

Booked our Flu injections for the day after we get home, and could have had them done tomorrow had we been there, then got into the dentist the next day to get filling replaced.

I was more concerned about the splatter on your MH.  With several hundreds of thousands of waders, ducks and geese to feed you would need a convey of heavy duty machinery undecided

We got caught out early in season for Middleham, but managed to have a lovely afternoon there in September. Similar with Bolton Castle, we were a day early in Spring, checked opening later in year, all fine, only to find it was closed one day for a Wedding! Grrrr....😁 I am packing in appointments into a week between trips at the moment.

Busy morning. We ventured out towards Chester to a retail park. Mrs WN needs an adjustable lamp for her craft work as her previous one has given up the ghost. Found one in Hobby Craft so she is happy bunny. Then onto Dunelm as we needed some tie back material and cord for the caravan curtains as the existing way they are tied back means that the curtain material catches on velcro so Mrs WN wants to make some new ones. Then to local caravan dealers for a new gas connecting pipe for my propane gas, some caravan cleaning fluid and a new water filter. Quick call in to Lidl to pick up some lunch materials like smoked salmon and Serrano ham ( I know how to live the high life).

This afternoon I've been checking out some ferry prices for a trip to Spain in early Spring and back from St.Malo after Easter. This was Plan A this year but it went AWOL. Looks quite good with the refund voucher I got from Brittany Ferries last year plus my brothers BF code for a further reduction. Probably book that soon unless we decide to come back from Bilbao instead. Have to do some research on where to walk in the Picos d' Europa.

    Miserable day weather wise.

Had an interesting day at the hospital yesterday getting my CT scan. Came out and 4 policemen were sitting next to Mrs WN with their handcuffs out.surprised They were attached to the prisoner they were escorting for a scan. We were told by the receptionist that the hand gels were being stolen due to the alcohol content in them but I think this might have been a bit of an overkill.smile

I went back to the Hand Clinic again today. No real improvement in the thumb. They did give me a wax heat treatment which was rather nice. If it was on Blue Peter it would be an illustration of how to make your own rubber gloves!!! It seems the the Physio has limited options in cases like mine and one of the few instances where exercise does not help! Unless it gets better of its own accord, which is possible,  it looks like a steroid injection at best or surgery at worse!!!

When we got home I have been fiddling with the pressure valve in the motorhome as it has a tendency to either not switch off or constantly pulse at 30/40 second intervals. Inside was perfectly clean so difficult to work out what the problem is. There are no signs of a water leak but it could be air which is more difficult to find.

Yesterday we treated ourselves to a new Humax PVR as an upgrade to our existing one. We had a bundle of JL gift vouchers from using their Partnership Card so only had to make a modest extra contribution from  our own resources. We tend to keep the gift vouchers until we have enough to treat ourselves. Last time they went towards out then new TV.

My elderly neighbour has just had a cataract operation, she didn't tell her family and another older neighbour agreed to take her in, saying it was silly to call the family. undecided Well the op went ok but somehow our neighbour took a staff mobile home with her. She had been leant a mobile to get in touch with her "driver." But has never used one and couldn't find it when needed so with a newly operated eye she spotted a phone on the counter and decided it was hers. Chaos ensued, now with two phones on her person, they finally tracked her down back at home, probably seen earlier on a ctv camera, she said she'd send it back by registered post...! The phone, which contained important hospital data was taken in "by hand" the next day.

WN maybe there is a now possibility that she mistook the hand cleaner for it's alternative use?! wink

The NHS  certainly has a lot of things to deal with...

    Drier start to the day.

Went out in the car to Tewkesbury, had a nice walk around the town. Couldn't do a walk by the water as it to dangerous just now as it to high. Lots of fields in the area are also flooded. Then onto Stow on the Wold, Evesham and back to Malvern. Got back before a rain shower, we were going to a fireworks display tonight but its far to wet for that so night in smile

Thinking of Devises next, probably on Thursday.

DK, I have trouble with my right thumb, sometimes locks up and can't bend, throbs domething horrible. I've found rubbing on Ibuprofen gel 3 or 4 times a day helps.

WN, we had the same problem with our curtain tiebacks in the caravan, I did the same as you and made new ones smile looks like you will be coming back from Spain just as we head out. Saw a programme the other night about the Pico's it was a train journey along the coast and inland, looked lovely.

Went to Norwich today to take afternoon tea at the Assembly House, and very nice it was to. 🧁🍰 thanks to son and daughter for the Christmas gift

Brought a new pair of walking shoes, current pair done just over 1500 miles in 18 months and were just about shot.  Couple of shortish walks this weekend to break them in.🥾🥾

Out of interest, what’s the crossing generally like (BoB)? On our recent cruise, it was a bit rough outbound 🤢

Devizes C&CC site is great TG. Right next to the canal, you can turn right and walk along to The Barge at Seend Cleeve or left into Devizes itself, plenty of eateries there. Or The 3 Magpies right at the entrance does good pub grub. Lacock, Castle  Combe, Corsham, Bradford on Avon all within a day's drive

(Better stop there or I'll be in trouble with DD again! laughing)

Thanks M, just hope they have spaces. Hoping for decent weather so we can use the bikes.

Freddy55, we've only used the ferry to Spain once,  that was the Pont Aven into Santander 3rd week of April. The crossing and ship was fine, bit of swell mid crossing but nothing to bad.

If we were going in May we would take the route through France,  next year we are going earlier as we are coming home earlier.

Life without our NHS would be so different Millie. We equate it to having an uninsured dog. Vet bills for anything beyond vaccinations can be astronomical. We pay £120 per month to see a specialist eye vet, thats just for consultation, no tests, meds or other treatment.

NHS has kept a lot of less well off people alive and into older age in this country. Not everyone can afford medical insurance. It’s an easy choice not to own a dog because of vet bills, but the choice isn’t quite so easy when it involves human beings.

Good that you had such a nice meet up😁

I thought Canada had some type of NHS provision, and decent pensions etc.  We  stayed for a few weeks over there with an aunt of OH's and she kept telling us how good their pensions were and how well looked after they were for both health matters and "senior care" as she called it.

I was interested enough to try to look it up Millie, it seems there is free public health care somewhat similar to our NHS, but as prescriptions and glasses are not free, many people take insurance for this and may also get private benefits via there employer, presumably like BUPA schemes here, or pay themselves to extend their cover.

There is an Old Age Pension which can be claimed at age 65, though it does not sound over generous, and most people also pay into private or employer schemes, very similar to here.  OH's uncle was a postman and seemed to have both a "state pension" and a "works pension".

There are also unemployment benefits related to your former earnings it seems.

Like here, there is great pressure on funds due to increasing numbers of pensioners, so contributions, that would be similar to our National Insurance, are being increased now and even further in the future,  no doubt the high taxes your friend was referring to.

Woke to a nice bright day, sadly it didn't last now turned chilly with the odd rain shower.

Have booked Devises for our next stop, tried to do it on the app, logged in filled in requirements got a price of £68 went to pay, requested full amount of £86 surprised that's not right says I to OH.

Went to site office, very nice lady there said I can do it for you. Gave requirements, price £55 smile  deposit of £25, not sure why the differences but happy with the outcome. Seems 'staff' can also request preferences too smile really having nothing but good experiences with the C&CC on this trip smile can recommend this site Blackmore at Malvern, lovely open site, good h/s pitches and good sanfacs, good area to be in too.

Bit of shopping this afternoon before moving tomorrow.

Life can be tough in Canada if you don't earn high wages etc. I suppose we could say the same here but at least the NHS is available for all.

We had a good evening yesterday hearing the Australian guitarist Craig Ogden play. He also made a lot of interesting comments, especially about his Australian guitar and how it was made.  It was an evening of classical music, including some familiar Spanish works but he did an encore with "Here Comes the Sun." smile

OH now looking at routes to Norfolk, if only there was an easy route across from here!

I can only speak for the family I have over there too and because my Dad was brought up in central Toronto. There is a state pension and there are private pensions so like here some have very good incomes in retirement others much less so. I would say earlier on our Canadian family could travel more than we could here on our pensions but things have evened out over the years. Certainly our "free" health care is good but money gets poured into research and development in N. America. We lack funding and lose some of our best people due to lack of investment here.

Brue - There's no easy way to Norfolk from Somerset! Suggest keeping to the motorway network to London and swinging northwards via M11. You may have to set up base camp somewhere en route.smile
