New CL: fantasy price

I am concerned though about the High prices being charged by several new CL's. It starts me wondering what advice they are being given by the CC at the start.
The cynic might say that the organisation might be getting concerned about the numbers of members turning to CL's & away from club sites, and as a result are trying to close the gap. I'm sure that that is not the case, but its a strange trend nevertheless!

I am currently on a temporary holiday site and three different people have said (without any prompting from me) that they have left the CC because of the prices of CL's have gone daft., stupid prices and they have forgotten their purpose.
Not my words, just what others have said in the last few days. Make of it what you will

Next week its the LLeyn Peninsular. With CLs at £15+ we will boycott and use the Euro pitches at Haven- Pwllheli at about £10 per night. H/S EHU, T/v point, Grey waste,full toilet facilities. Neither the CC or Cls seem to appeciate that competition is getting
keener and with new entrants in the market.0 -
I don't think £15 is unreasonable for a good CL with level pitches and facilites like a loo & shower such as the one we stayed at recently. And even at maybe a fiver more a night I'd rather give CL owners my custom than pander to the likes of Haven whose
(admittedly good) low offer prices are subsidised by families paying sky high prices at other times of the year. Just my opinion, though!

I think a lot of us use CLs because we don't want to be on the very large sites like Haven even if they are offering special rates. There are some lovely CLs out there and cost isn't the only factor. Mind you the if the banking situation gets more dire in
November I might re-think that!

We have been away for 18 van holidays this year.We use CC,Cls and commercials. All I am saying is that there is more competition out there than in the past ( yes many are specials from the big boys) but they are worth looking at. Unless the CC also moves
wirh the times they will be left behind. Has there been any trials with different prices for 2017 or just the same old, up the prices and extend the peak? v0 -
i see the Morris Leisure group of sites (Ludlow, Bridgenorth etc) have their 3 for 2 offer on now....

Works out at £17.80 per night for us BB at Ludlow. Are weekends, Sat and Sun included in offer, I can only get including these days? Can't get offer details up on website page, or I would check myself. Thanks.

How much each person wants to pay will differ but it does amaze me that some people will spend 30k+ on a caravan or 50k+ on a MH and then expect to camp for free..
We holiday usually with motorhoming friends, two different couples, and whilst we all have differing opinions on what constitutes good value only two of the three couples ever expect to 'camp' for free!!
i am more than happy to camp for free when/where the opportunity arises.
most of the aires we stay on are free and with such a choice, why pay unless you will be in a specific spot for a specific reason.
camping for free in the uk is still possible, but the places arent in a 'directory' like sites and aires are....but many know these spots, and as long as they are responsible in their camping whats the issue with it being free?....after all, anyone can do
itive seen £100k vans parked up outside a campsite, and you'd think they could afford the fees....however, spending six months on tour would still cost a tidy penny if you stayed on a site every night (just multiply 180 nights by the average CC price of £25
to see how much.....£4500) so a few freebies will cut down on that....anyway, they didnt get that £100k MH by chucking it away

During our long June holidays we stayed on 7 CL's, prices ranging from £7 to £17 pn. The cheapest was basic, hard Standing in a rural location with fantastic views, for the prices we did not expect much, but was surprised and impressed, the dearest was close
to a city, had toilets, hard standing, electricity, pot holes, rabbit droppings very disappointed. We gladly pay around £12-£14 for basic CL but no more than £18 for all facilities.0 -
It's not so much that Motorhomers can't afford to pay, it's much more about stunning locations that are possible for us to stay in. You see, we are equipped to stay the night without need of a campsite. Tonight we are parked perfectly legally, right next
to a beach and I can hear the sea; it's such a lovely sound. We have an inverter, a solar panel and first thing this morning we did all our housekeeping on a CL.0 -

The touring park is away from the busy static van area and if you are lucky with your pitch allocation you should have no complaints.
Toilet facilities superb and of course fully serviced pitches.
We have enjoyed very good weather, even managed a quick swim in the sea. Ha very quick.
Not saying I would want to be here in July paying silly money per night but for out of season you can't really beat it.

agreed..purely from a 'technical' standpoint, the site is clean, pitches are large, fully serviced, decent facilities, quiet, well placed, wardens friendly etc, etc....all the things you want from site
.....oh, and we paid arounf £6 a night for the 10 days we were there....
again agreed, not necessarily for us in peak (are we snobs?) but anytime outside thses periods is a cracking site at an amazing price.

We have recently returned from a trip and was chatting to a CL owner and he told me that the electrician who checks his hook-up points told him that a caravan uses an average of £3 a day electricity. That would equate to £90 for a month, I dont use anywhere near that at home and we have all the usual gadgets on, TV, Internet, Laptop, not to mention the usual white goods. He is increasing his pricing by £3 a night on the strength of that.

I can't help wondering how the electrician would know that. Sounds like guesswork to me.

My guess that a typical cost for a caravan would be £1 a day, more in winter if using Alde.
£3 seems way over the top and encourages people to waste electricity because they have paid a lot for it so they will blooming well use it. Not great environmentally speaking.
I would be tempted to offer a 10 amp supply and charge £1 per day (or meter it)
Read somewhere it's illegal for a CL to charge more for electricity than they originally paid for it.

£3 per day is £1095 per year which would be virtually impossible to achieve on a typical campsite supply of 10 to 16 amps and with a typical caravan's equipment. A domestic supply is normally about 60 amps (approx 5 times a campsite supply) and £1095 would
still be more than a lot of people pay annually for electricity even with higher powered appliances used at home.It is not legal to re-sell electricity at more than cost price.

Tinwheeler we have a CL open all year and the CL DD is £248 per month which includes information hut with laundry facilities and 16amp hook ups, the shower block which has its own metered supply is £40 per month, the greatest usuage in one day on the CL
alone in winter was 220KW it is always far in excess of our own usage in the house. Hope this helps.0 -
Gibbo, thanks for your figures but my point is that £3 per day consumption per EHU is an overestimation by the electrician referred to earlier.
