New CL: fantasy price
I've just read in the New CLs list in the club magazine, as they laughingly call the junk mail self advertising masquerading as a magazine, that there is a new CL at a garden centre in Northwich, Cheshire. The price is an eye watering £20 a night. Approaching club site price for a CL. Hope no one gives, pricing like this will destroy the whole ethos of the wonderful CL network.

Depends what is included - if it is two dinners and two breakfasts then it might be a good deal.

We are not at that sort of priceing with our CL, but need to watch our overheads, this week we had a visitor with a Crossover car,and wanted to recharge the batteries overnight, we came to an arrangment, but is this the future and do we need to cover additional

wildemere, if it were me then I would charge them the same as they would pay at a charging point. Don't know how much this works out to though......

But the CL might be a far more pleasant place to stay? Why do you consider the price of the Club site acceptable, but not the CL?

The pricing seems a bit strange to me. It is a "basic" if beautiful site, one acre, grass, EHU, AO. So nothing in the way of extras that some would want, toilets, showers, HS. The £20 per night includes access for two adults to the admittedly lovely gardens,
worth £8. So that would be good for one night, but if you stop for more than one, you are paying £8.00 per night for the garden access again?Looks nice, as I said earlier, but at £20 per night, on the expensive side for what you get. Good arrival time, 10.00am although last departure is 12 noon, so I can see some confusion there? Latest arrival is 5pm, way too early for us!
Might suit others perfectly though.

We have stayed at a CL not far from sons house which is £25/night. Immaculate facilities, hardstanding, terraced serviced pitches with stunning views over the southdowns. We would have stayed last week but they were full so stayed at Rookesbury for about

I can think of an even higher price one at East Marden, West Sussex that we like and know others do; there must be a market as booking is not always too easy.
That it is charging CC main site money is irrelevant, as we are not talking like for like expriences, one has just 5 units, that to some clients is worth paying a premium.
That said, if a site has near zero charm then we would not be there and certainly not paying high prices. I do feel the club suggest to new owners some pricing that does not reflect what we would "value" them at. I don't think this helps them or the potential users, so expect their existence to be short lived.

CL at Cockermouth £14. Shower, Toilet, lovely childrens play park, beautiful views, blissfully quiet plus free WiFi

There is a new CL near to where we store our caravan, thought I would check it out, as it was local, they also charge £20 then an extra £2.50 per night for a dog!
I
note that they also charge £5 per night for a child, a family with 2 children with a dog would be paying £32.50 a night!!People are using the site though and the reviews are all good.

As the CLs in/part of a garden centre it appears semi commercial and can charge what they want of course. No doubt there will be takers but not us. We'll happily pay around £15 but want peace and a bit of seclusion for that - and electrics!

last two posts have hinted at why small site prices have crept up....electricity...
the investment to do this over and above a similar (but, say, very nicely) mown and kept field, is considerable...
this has to be got back from customers, and it may be that they want that return back reasonably quickly....so this will add to prices.
then there are the 'demands' for showers and toilets....again, often more investment needed, and these small places dont have the economies of scale that the club has to 'work on' costs....
a simple (well kept, well drained) field/garden/meadow can be a lovely place to stay....usually at a sensible price....£10 or less in its native form....
start ramping up unnecessary facilities with 'electric, showers, toilets' and that cost will move accordingly.....
visit any number of CCC THS (temp hol sites) which, in effect, are CL-type accommodation but for larger numbers, and these come in at around £8-£9 a night....more akin to an untainted 5-van site....
start changing all this into mini club sites and the cost will soon be on a par.....

No chance if us visiting at that price. Just back from NT Ilam - £14 per night all in with showers & toilets etc. Thats what I call acceptable.

Ilam Park Caravan site is open 7 days per week from: Friday 26 February 2016 to Saturday 29 October 2016.
2016 pitch fees:
£14 per pitch per night on
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday nights
£20 per pitch per night on
Friday and Saturday nights
£22 per pitch per night Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights on bank Holiday weekends.
Fee includes: pitch, 2x adult guests, car parking for 1 vehicle, awning space on pitch, electric hook up, drinking water, waste water disposal facility, shower facilities and toilets nearby but off site.0 -
Running a CL is hardly a profitable business. Limited to 5 units per night even at £20 a night they are hardly going to get rich given the cost of land and the ancillary services they would need to provide to achieve that price. The customer has a choice, pay and stay or don't pay and don't stay. Surely it up to the owner to charge what they see fit. It's called the free market. My question is fantasy price or realistic price? Depends if you are the customer or the owner.

Write your comments here...exactly, if you are going to the trouble of running a CL then you would want to make some thing out of it for the hassle of running it. How much each person wants to pay will differ but it does amaze me that some people will spend 30k+ on a caravan or 50k+ on a MH and then expect to camp for free....

We holiday usually with motorhoming friends, two different couples, and whilst we all have differing opinions on what constitutes good value only two of the three couples ever expect to 'camp' for free!!

I have admiration for anybody running a CL because, surely, it must be just a hobby? It doesn't make commercial sense with only 5 vans allowed. So, I am happy to pay that much for a really good site and location but agree that electricity costs have a lot

MichaelT I only deal in realities. It wa£14 per night for those nights we stayed there.Not interested in pricesat different times. Thats why we never use CC in peak.

As far as i am concerned I am happy to pay a good CL with Electricity and water £14 - £15 per night.
Have just spent 14 nights in Pembrokshire on CL's both not only with EHU but also very nice wash room shower & toilets for £14 pn. The second of the two not only provided the same facilities, but greated each new arrival with a tray of Hot tea/coffee and
biscuits. Again at £14pn. Now thats what I call good value! Who would want a Club site under those circumstances?TF

Brian - if you're ever looking for a short break fairly near your neck of the woods, I can recommend Forton House CL near Chard. Nice village site, easy access, level pitches, excellent loo/shower for £15 a night. I've just left a more detailed review!
