What are you all up to

It's a shame that you didn't manage to get a serviced pitch when you wanted @DSB but I am sure you will enjoy your stay at Morton.
@KjellNN Seton Sands is a good choice of sites for the kids, we stayed there just after it opened last year. Hope you haven't forgotten that Easter falls over the weekend of 19th/20th April this year so sites might be busy then.
Tda I hope you have managed to get get the whole of the hedge out, and that it soon dries up enough for you to get the fence erected.
Another grey day with some light drizzle although it has not been quite as cold as previous days, and again we did have a period of blue sky but it was short lived. We just did some general housework and I continued with updating the new Site Directory.

Another grey, miserable day here today - so I thought I would brighten things up a bit by sharing a photo a friend sent me the other day.
I know of two or three other people on here who might appreciate it……..
and apologies to all those not fortunate enough to live in God's own County😀😂😇
Tin hat on…….I'm off to take Meg to the Vet's for her annual health check and jab.

We have a better day here, overcast but dry, so hoping it will be garden for us shortly, and a wig trim for me later. Can’t see a problem with that map @richardandros 🤣

“Can’t see a problem with that map @richardandros 🤣”
Nor me. I know a few people who’ll like that.

Still dry, cloudy and chilly, but it didn't feel quite as cold as the wind had gone. OH too had a haircut this morning, and this afternoon I have the car a quick wash. If it does warm up, and stay dry, I might even give it a polish this coming weekend.

I have been shorn😁 Managed a good few hours in garden as well, tidying up, so it’s coming along.
Had some sad news though😢 Mum’s SIL is very very poorly, (my Aunt) Cousin phoned to let us know. I am going to pop into her Care Home and say a quick goodbye. We are all very close, used to holiday together when we were little, so that only leaves Mum now. OH’s SIL was taken into hospital as well yesterday, thankfully she is doing ok, should be back home in next couple of days.
Fingers crossed for a dry day tomorrow 🤞

Yes, I remembered that you went to Seton Sands last year, and that you thought it was fairly good, so we stayed there for several nights last September to visit some friends. DD and the boys joined us, but only for 2 nights, a school holiday weekend when Daddy had school work to do. They enjoyed the pool and the pond dipping, and had an afternoon at NTS Newhailes, a great play area there, so they were keen to go again. It is good for there to be some indoor activities for them as the weather can be unpredictable.
It is however quite pricey between April and October, and more expensive this year than last year. As Daddy will also be going, we are just taking the van over on the 6th and picking it up again on the 12th to move along the road to East Fortune, which is £11 per night cheaper, though at £30 is far more than we usually like to pay. We could have booked their CL at £21, but decided to splash out on a serviced HS on their other site.
Daddy originally wanted to go to Oban, but that was in the wrong direction for us, and quite a wet place usually, so he was persuaded that Edinburgh would be the safer choice!
So we will be moving on just before the Easter weekend, suppose we had better get our next site booked soon. Just trying to decide where we should go before heading to North Wales to visit my former work colleague for a few days. Looking for a couple of CLs in Yorkshire and maybe the Peak District that offer hard standings, preferably serviced, which are not too far off our route.

Thanks TTDA. We will be coming down the A1 so looking for a CL within around 20 miles from the A1 , south of Catterick and north of Sheffield. We have a possible at York, the one we used last year, but have not enquired as to availability as yet as it would be nice to use a different site.
We do not need any facilities, we always use our own shower etc, but at that time of year do need a hardstanding big enough for our 8m twin axle, ideally without having to drive over any (or much) grass. And preferably a serviced pitch to cut out humphing water around, as at age 82 my strength is not what it used to be. We do not use an awning.
We are then heading west to North Wales, just a little beyond Chester, hopefully to Crab Mill Farm CL, just off the A55 .
Possible route would be heading west from around Sheffield/Chesterfield level. We have been in and around the Peak District and Derbyshire a few times before, we have stayed at sites near Matlock, Leek, Belper, Chatsworth and Buxton, but that was several years back. The most recent, about 6 years back, was Tax Farm CL near Matlock, others were CAMC sites, so that must have been more than 10 years ago!We are also CCC members, so a CS is also a possibility. It seems more difficult to find out prices for them, and little detail is given on the CCC website as far as I can see..
Price……ideally not over £25 if serviced, less if not, absolute max is £30.

@KjellNN I will see what I can find, try and get back to you this week. Nellie might be a good bet for possibles as well, he’s been all over 👍

Thank goodness for a bright sunny day although still a bitterly Easterly wind.
Went and picked the van up from the dealers this morning after its annual service. Had a lot of work done including tyres, toilet flush fixed as pump was seized and PCB replaced due to corrosion so invoice was a heck of a lot. Next big job is to replace 2 of the blinds and they are pretty expensive.
We will be off on our first trip on Sunday, going to Hampshire
Hope everyone has a great weekend

Not so sunny over in this neck of the woods OneP. Enjoy your first trip away and I hope your brother is now in better health. Best wishes to you OH as well.
A cold, Dreek day (you've got to love auto correct which had that down as Greek day, if only). OH had her car in for service this morning. We decided to use a local garage instead of trudging to Chester first and last thing in the day. A very acceptable 11.00 drop off and full service by 13.00, reasonably priced as well with no extras. Just the last of our appointments this week. Had my regular kidney appointment yesterday. A mixed bag of results.
We may have a couple of free days next week so will try to get away somewhere close by although the "mixed bag" mentioned above necessitates me being available for some appointments hence the "close by". But they may not happen so quickly.
@KjellNN - have you tried this for serviced pitch CLs?

Nice sunny day in MK today but as Oneputt points out a cold wind. Having said that if you were going for a walk it could be quite pleasant as I discovered when I took a birthday card down to the post box. Had to be up reasonably early today has I had my annual fasting blood tests. Will wait with interest at the results as they have called me back two years running as my blood sugar levels have been hovering close to intervention! My doctor says its borderline so I assume it could go either way? Some years ago I had an accident which caused an ulcer on my lower leg. Fortunately all healed but as a result I have to wear compression socks, at least it saves any decisions on what to wear! When I have my Doppler Test I always ask if I need to carry on and she says its borderline so clearly at our surgery "borderline" is a bit of a buzzword😀

I am sorry to read about your Aunt and SIL @Takethedogalong but pleased to hear that your SIL is doing well and that she should be home soon.
@KjellNN have you thought about Cherry Tree Cottage site at York, as their pitch are large, but not serviced, here's the link
If you want to stay close to the A1/A19 there is Wiske Moor CP, a CL at Northallerton, or Spring Thyme near Catterick, but this may no longer be a CL. Other options could be Low Hall Farm near Bedale which has large pitches, or Old Path House Farm at Patrick Brompton, Bedale. I will have a think on about suitable ones in the Peak District for tomorrow.
@Oneputt hope all the main repairs are now done with, and that you have a good trip down to Hampshire. How are your brother and SIL doing, fairing well I hope.

Wherenext…….thanks for the link to the map. OH had found the pdf list, but I could not get the links on it to work, map works fine.
Nellie……thanks, will check out Cherry Tree near York. We have stayed at Spring Thyme, a few years back, but I think it is no longer a CL. Will look at the others you have mentioned.
Today we made a big batch of soup……roasted butternut and sweet potato, with onions and a few wrinkly parsnips. Tastes very good. We had some for dinner and will have some tomorrow, then freeze the rest for later. Tomorrow I will have to get on with those kitchen splashbacks.

@KjellNN of the CLs in the Peak District on the serviced site map the only one we have stopped on is the Crich Lane one which is fine, although the short road down to it was a bit rough but that was quite a few years ago. The Lakeside Meadow CL looks very good, as does Broadmeadow Farm.
I managed to get most of the inside of the caravan cleaned this morning between dog walks, so hopefully I will complete the tax tomorrow. It has been a fair bit warmer, or at least less cold, today although it is still very and cloudy but thankfully the chill wind has dropped.

@KjellNN Neliie and WN have provided some good ideas. The only one round Sheffield I have found is this one
It has a very good local reputation, and I can vouch for the location as I was Area Manager for Rother Valley’s Watersports Centre at one time, but it might be expensive, and not exactly what you need. A good one for children though, there’s lots to do in the Country Park.

@DEBSC thinking of you. Hope all goes well tomorrow. If you feel up to it keep us posted, but remember were all rooting for you.
Good to read folks news,I had a good catch up this morning.
WWe Had sight of blue sky this morning,so it is above the grey it's gone back to. That said its dry and blowing, jolly cold wind but it's drying my washing.
WWe have a fabulous show of snowdrops this year. But any photos I've tried on my phone don't do them justice. By accident there's some beside pink cyclamen making a nice combination.
Its too wet to do more than a brisk walk on our grass so no chance, even if it was warmish and dry to attempt anything, so it's just list making at the moment. I think I'd better do lots of ready dinners and find a plug in source for energy for when action stations starts. Being a clay soil, worse than our Essex clay, it's very easy to miss the sweet spot!

New adventourous happenings are starting on our farm. The photos (pinched from my son's Instagarm account) show the beginnings. We've gutted a building and are ready for the next stage. (When I say "we" I mean the three generations of men in my family).
Note - it's a long time since 18 milk cows were housed in here.

@DEBSC All the best for tomorrow. I will be thinking of you.
We had such a lovely time with our family from NI last week. We couldn't do everything we had planned because of the dismal weather but we found other things to take their place. They are now safely back home and the house seems very quiet and empty without them. The weather is still fairly dismal here. A brief bright spell this morning but it is now grey again but at least no rain … at the moment. We are promised temperatures up to the dizzy heights of double figures at the end of this week but I have a feeling it will still be wet. 😒. I can't summon up any enthusiasm for gardening at the moment @Bakers2 I hope my 'get and go' will appear at some point.
We had some sad news the other day. A great friend of OH's has died. They first met when playing for the same football team at Leeds University and then coincidentally ended up living here years later just round the corner from us. Their children and ours were great friends as was I with his wife (now sadly no longer with us). They belonged the the same sports club and played squash every week until about 15 years ago and also sailed across the channel every summer in our friend's brother's little sailing boat and had many adventures. So many happy memories.
So sorry to hear about your aunt @Takethedogalong and I hope your SIL is soon back home.

Good to read that you had a nice time with your family, Millie
That looks like a quite a project, @Goldie146 hope it turns out a success. Interesting photos.
The temperature has dropped again today and although we must have had a shower through the night it has been dry all day with the occasional period of sunshine. I completed the cleaning of the inside of the caravan and managed to book a few of the sites for the first weeks of our next trip. However still waiting for a reply from both a phone call and an email from one site from over a day now, which contrasts with the others, one of who replied overnight from Egypt 😮 and another with instant confirmation from their online booking.

After a few hours of sun yesterday, today is grey again.
OH has been checking out sites and has now booked one at York. Our last year’s one only had grass pitches left, so we will be going to Foss Dyke, which is near the Designer Outlet. She is now looking for one in Derbyshire/Peak District for 5 nights.TTDA…..Waleswood looks very nice but, yes, also beyond our budget at over £40. Will just be the 2 of us, so we are happy with something more basic. There are a few possible serviced Cls, but we need to factor in electricity costs as several are now metering electricity and charging for anything over 10 kWh per night. Broadmeadow Farm looks good though.
Also considering the CCC site at Bakewell, no facilities, no serviced pitches, but well priced at £23.50. Only drawback might be the access, reviews are mixed.
