We have had a “day off” today, so I have been tackling fitting the new wheel spat, with help from OH. Not easy, but hopefully have managed it. Tomorrow I will need to seal the top edge to the van body. Hope I have secured it sufficiently to avoid it falling off!,
Very warm and humid here, fans going.
I will be back to working in the flat either tomorrow or Saturday

Millie, MiL is feeling a bit better thanks and is now off the cocodemel pain killers. They have a bad side effect for her so she'd rather have a bit of pain. She actually went for a second short stroll late this afternoon. She's told us to book in somewhere this Sunday as we have a couple of local places we want to visit. Mind you we will only be about 20 minutes away. She'll not go out on her own. Back home after the 1 night.
Hope you get used to the car quickly.
We actually had some rain during the night, which made the air a bit fresher this morning. Back to hot though.

Wow!!!! a whole day and no postings, everybody must be super busy and enjoying the sunshine.
Very gloomy just now here but super sticky, Cowes fireworks last night were a bit of a non show, apparently the Cowes sailing club have lost the sponsor for their end of week display, however, a holiday camp which is in East Cowes did put on a display which we could see quite clearly so all good, however, there was a very strong SSW wind which made it feel very cold, but now no wind and hopefully the sun will return later, happy weekend to one and all

Thankfully much cooler here in MK overnight, although it takes a while for the house to cool down. For my birthday I had one of those Fitbit style watches that record heart rate, sleep and much more. Apparently last night I had eight hours sleep compared to four the night before!

We liked it when we stayed there, booked the ferry with them as well, ferry terminal only five minutes from the site. Serviced pitches but only 10 amp electrics, which is fine for most of the year. The pitches are terraced with nice views out over the Solent. http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/waverley_park.html for some pictures. Its fine going down into East Cowes but a bit steep coming back up if walking or on a bike. Osbourne House not to far away.

It was my birthday a week ago and one of the presents I asked for was a Fitbit style watch as I was interested in monitoring various things. Totally unnecessary of course but being a bit of a nerd just the thing I would like! It measures heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep patterns and steps. I was particularly interested in the latter as someone we worked with said that she often does over 10000 steps around the house which I found hard to believe, although in fairness she could race around the house at a pace! From the first few days I haven't found the step count to be wildly out of step with the app on my phone although because I wear the watch 24/7 it does have a higher count but not more than you would expect. Perhaps I need to enter my ex colleague for the next Olympics! Sleep measurement is interesting as it measures when you are awake, light sleep and deep sleep. On Thursday which was very muggy I manged just over 4 hours sleep. The next night which was cooler it was over 8 hours!

Had a lovely day yesterday we were invited over to 2nd oldest sons house in Edinburgh for a family BBQ lovely day and very warm and sunny great family day. Drive home was a nightmare as the M8 was closed so a long diversion round Glasgow. Not much planned for today weather not too good here at the moment

We've had a smashing day as well. CADW (Welsh Heritage) operate three Chapels for estate owners and we attended a guided tour of one of them today. They're only open once a month for a short period of the year. This one is on the Rug estate near Corwen. Very interesting, quite ornate in places and hedging it's bets between the 2 main religions. Considering it was built in 1632 you can probably understand why it remained unconsecrated.
Its been passed on down the years. One of the guardians, Lord Newborough known as Mike, was a bit of a character. He fought in WW2, sailed over to Dunkirk 5 times to save lives, was a Commando unit that torpedoed the harbour at St.Nazaire in France to prevent the Germans using that harbour. Was sunk in that mission, captured then escaped from a POW camp, recaptured and sent to Colditz. When he died in 1998 he had his ashes put into a cannonball and fired into the estates' woodland. Isn't History fascinating?
I'll put photos on tomorrow when we get home from our 1 night overnight stay on a CL. Some of them need editing as the light not very good and this android not the best.
Afternoon spent wandering around Denbigh Castle. Another fascinating place with gorgeous vistas. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
Then off to the CL. The roads were very quiet today and I enjoyed the driving in a beautiful part of North Wales that most visitors bypass.

Gla to hear that the MIL is feeling better Wherenext. Sorry you were disappointed in the fireworks at Cowes, Rufs. You need to go to Monaco (🤣🤣).. In the days we used to go regularly to Provence we alway made a trip out to Monaco for one of the firework nights.
We've spent today travelling from Stonehaven CAMC site to a private site in Northumberland (South Meadows, at Belford), and have set up for the next few days. The breeze was rather cool at Stonehaven but at least it was dry. Started to rain here in Northumberland. Fingers crossed it will be short lived...

We have had quite a busy time over the last few days. We drove down to lovely, quiet CL near to our daughter's on Thursday then she and our grandson came and visited us in the afternoon. On Friday we had a walk around Turton & Entwistle Reservoir and then went out for a most enjoyable meal with the family. Yesterday we had riverside walk and then a drive up onto the Moor by Winter Hill and another on the fell opposite. Today we stayed local with a wander around Roddlesworth Res. The reason for our visit was to see our grandson who is heading out to the Far East with the intension of hopefully taking up a post teaching English as a foreign language in Japan from next March. Photos of the CL, a sculpture at Turton, and one looking across to Winter Hill. Thankfully the weather has been king with just the odd spot of rain
Sounds like those that are away are having a good and fingers crossed that the weather stays dry for the rest of their trips.

Some photos from yesterday. Interesting candelabra as it is made from wood. You can see the candles in it. Photo taken from underneath as it looks like a huge spider. It's a wonder there hasn't been a fire.
Last photo is one of the views from Denbigh Castle looking down at a private school and towards the Clwydian Hills.

Don't think so, as it is not what one would call a money making enterprise, it has never been very busy. Great value at £15 pn with EHU, in the sunnier months, grand views and close to major routes but nice and quiet even through the day.

It certainly is lovely, in a beautifully manicured garden, and owned by a lovely lady. We use it most times we are though visiting our daughter.

We have had a little drizzle this evening after another fine dry day. We visited Sunnyhurst County Park today and had a walk around to Earlsdale Reservoir, which we hadn't visited before. The view below is of Darwen Tower overlooking the Res. Last night here before we head on yo our next port of call.

One of my old stopping grounds, it was one of our Good Friday walks with the youth club, up thru Sunnyhurst wood and on to Darwen Tower beautiful area.
bit grey this morning, but that brisk SSW wind has abated and the Solent is like a mill pond, but it is very sticky, cycled just in shorts this morning, Sorento just away for svc & MOT, hanging on to the old girl, until such time as we give up towing or they sort these EV's into something that is practical for towing.

It’s a good job we are all different. We don’t like busy, over managed sites. Most of our favourite sites are this type of site, pretty, relaxed, plenty of space, quiet, sort of place you can stretch out, read a book in peace, go for a walk, get away from other folks. It’s why we bought a camper, a caravan, a Motorhome. We like more remote cottages as well. Not adverse to city breaks, or big hotels, we have room in our options for those as well.

Very interesting. Sadly we drove past Denbigh Castle last December when in area, as we needed to get to cottage asap, and it was raining, but hopefully we will get back at some point. I have been round, but OH hasn’t. Hope your trip is going well👍

Yesterday Margaret had a phone consultation with a Doctor at the Physio Clinic she was sent to so they could assess her hip. A scan and an x-ray have established she needs it replaced so the question now is where and when. The Physio Clinic do have their own hospitals but the nearest is either Kettering or Banbury, there was also the offer of the Saxon Clinic here in MK. The problem with these private facilities is the fact that Margaret has had a heart by-pass operation and none of them have emergency provision. Undoubtable any of those establishments would have done the job more quickly. However after discussing it with the Doctor he is now going to refer Margaret to MK Hospital where the wait will be around a year! Maybe if the new Health Secretary can get things moving maybe it won't be so long but she is suffering. Maybe when she gets her appointment with the hospital we will get a clearer idea.

I well remember the last time we visited Denbigh Castle as we were in the company of good friends.
Perhaps we will get there, or somewhere similar, with them again in the not too distant future.Pleased to read that you got to see what you wanted to on your latest trip, WN.
We had an easy drive to our next site, a THS, with an expansive view across Morecambe Bay. There are about 30 units on tonight but there had been over 50 on here at the weekend. Not the cheapest one we have visited this year but worth the price for the great view. Hopefully I will be get a decent photo of the view tomorrow, as, although it was fine and clear when we arrived, it became hazy in the afternoon and it was difficult to see the Lakeland Hills clearly. It stayed fine, if a bit breezy, all the same I was able to sit out until after 19:00. Have just booked a site for our next trip, £5 pn with full facilities, ....well a water tap and an elsan point! What more can one want?😁y

British Gas had made it difficult earlier in the year to self book an appointment for a boiler service. "We'll be in contact with you when you need a service" was approximately the message. Left me frustrated for a while, then I forgot about it until this week. So I logged on yesterday morning and lo and behold a calendar for appointments appeared and even more amazingly there was a free spot for same day afternoon. Rest of August fully booked. Gas man duly came and did the best service we've had in years but I'll be switching in November.
We took a full service for both boiler and an emergency call out for other services contract a few years ago as we were away quite a lot and wanted to make life easy for MiL to get in touch with a reputable company in an emergency. We're now at home a lot more and hopefully the need isn't the same. Plus the cost has rocketed.
Is there such a thing as a "Scarfaholic?" If so does anyone know the helpline number? MiL acquired yet another one today. She must have at least 30+. We took her to a local garden centre to assimilate her in her recovery.
Not nice weather today. Windy and cool with rain off and on.

Hi David. Glad to hear they have started the process to sort out Margarets hip. Carol is suffering with hip and knees at the moment, but she has been told she must lose some weight before they will put her on the list for replacements. At the moment she is on so many pain killers! Fingers crossed they both get sorted soon.

I have heard before that ladies have been asked to lose weight prior to a hip operation, it happened to one of my ex colleagues. I think in those circumstances I would be tempted to ask if that rule would apply if you went private
I think Margaret will be happier once she has seen a consultant at the Hospital as that will mean the process is in train even if it does mean a wait. There is always the temptation to have it done privately but should that be necessary? Both boys keep saying just spend the money. The strange thing with Margaret's hip is that if seems to have come to the point of needing a replacement quite quickly. With mine I seem to recall it was about three years before they suddenly said you need it replaced.
Hope Carol gets sorted soon.

It has been much cloudier today, but thankfully we have virtually no rain, just a short shower when we were out walking this morning, but we were sheltered by overhanging trees at the time. We had parked in the old quarry on the side of Warton Crag and had a walk through parts of the Nature Reserve before lunch, and up onto the upper levels after. I then had a walk along the coastal path from the site on our return after getting in some shopping where I came across a couple of interesting pieces of work. If one looks closely you can just about make out our caravan site in the middle distance of the sea scape photo.

Had a lovely morning on the beach this watching grandson and his karate club training. Over 20 youngsters participating and it’s great to see their self discipline and enthusiasm. Of course they all ended up in the sea at the end of the session

I mentioned British Gas service yesterday. Received a letter from them today asking me to book a service, dated 31/07. Renewal in November so if they are as tardy in arranging it next year they will go an entire year without providing a service at all. Nice (non) work if you can get it.

Weather a bit cloudy with a few showers here in Northumberland today, so decided on a visit down to Warkworth Castle - making use of our English Heritage membership. Hoping for a brighter day tomorrow, for our last day here at South Meadows, before moving on...
