I doubt our little loop did such a beautiful place justice to be honest, but we had a 90 year old with us at the time, and she was getting tired. It was early March, 2020. The World was in the terrible first grip of COVID, and the lockdown started as we got home. It looks well worth much more exploring, wasn’t such a drive for us as I say, we were in a cottage at Eshton, so a quick drive to get onto the loop. If you don’t know it well, Skipton is a lovely place. Lots to see and do. If you fancy a different meal out, there’s an authentic American Diner called Billy Bob’s not far from Skipton, lovely burgers, hot dogs, shakes and delicious ice cream. Be warned though, it gets very very busy, and is a Mecca for families. Mum enjoyed it🤣

I’m tempted to take the blue route TBH, it looks more ‘out there’. Yes, we’ve been to Skipton a couple of times now. Last time we took the train to Carlisle, which was nice. We stayed at the club site nearby, Wharfedale. What we like to do is take a flask and sandwiches, find a likely spot, get the chairs out and soak up the surroundings - nature at its finest. Unfortunately, the other half is beginning to really struggle with her hip, so for now, walking any distance is off the cards. A bit limiting.

A very hot day here 41C phew just too hot so most of the day inside with fans going and now portable aircon on in bedroom, also it is 30C in our lounge/dining room phew and windows and shutters are closed as the air is very warm outside but now 32C outside a bit better but more to go, tomorrow is a bit cooler around 33/34C then Tuesday and Wednesday we have got thunderstorms both days which we need some rain and it will be cooler hooray also saves some garden watering hopefully.
Had to go to Cahors last week phew that was warm with all the old stone buildings holding the heat.
Take care in the heat folks and stay cool for the next couple of days in some areas of the UK.

Having trouble with the signal as CL slightly off beaten track. Lovely spot though. Stopped at Plas Brondanw, a HHA house. Made a pleasant stop for a cuppa and lunch. Having trouble downloading some photos so they'll have to come later. Francis, there's one of a 100 year old Bentley so stay tuned.
Harlech and Barmouth were absolutely bouncing. We didn't stop long in either unfortunately. Able to walk out from site and join up with the old. now converted, railway line that runs from Dolgellau to Barmouth. Walked up to the George III pub for a glass of cold cider. Here for 2 nights. Cycling tomorrow although some rain due early morning.

I’m trying to make sense of Olympic Closing ceremony. I’m sure it’s spectacular in the Stadium but it’s just not doing things for me yet🤷♀️

Depending where you are staying in Harrogate you could head north initially towards Ripon but turn off just after Ripley towards Pateley Bridge, then past Stump Cross Cavern to Grassington and onto Long Preston that way. Coming back to through Clitheroe and up over the Nick of Pendle to Sabden and then head for Skipton and back to Harrogate over Blubberhouses.
The climb out of Pateley Bridge make for an "interesting" tow !!😊

A quite hot day but the breeze kept it bearable. Had to do a long postponed but essential job this morning...cleaning out the buffering at the back of the house...yuck!! It was a great day for getting the wahing dried. Too warm to contemplate cleaning the car this afternoon as it had stood in the full sunshine all morning, and too many applies tomorrow to do it either, so hopefully I can get it and perhaps the caravan cleaned on Tuesday.
RK, please keep those temperatures, and the forthcoming thunderstorms over there. It is nice here to have a period of proper summer, even if It is only for a short while.
WN, enjoy your nights away. I don't think that we have visited Plas Brondanw, so one to add to the list for a future trip.

CS there is a pleasant walk around Grimwith Reservoir not far from where you must be staying, just off the B6265 towards Grassington. There is van with fine ice cream in the car park, just the job at the end of one s walk!!

We watched the NYO on BBC Proms last night - 140 amazingly talented teenage musicians. I love their enthusiasm.
I am out this morning meeting friends for coffee at a local garden centre and then this afternoon I shall stay indoors in the cool. Stay safe and try to keep cool everyone.

Is it something to do with getting old but both Margaret and I are finding this very hot weather difficult to deal with. At least we have the luxury of not doing anything should we wish!

Yes DavidK we are finding the heat difficult to deal with as well. We didn't used to get weather this hot years ago. We have had 33 degrees this afternoon. We used get those sort of temperatures in Greece and Portugal not in the UK. It is hopefully getting cooler as we week goes on.

Nellie - Plas Brondanw is quite small and typical of Clough-Ellis the garden is more architecturally set out. House a bit more interesting if you like contemporary art.
If you do find yourself there then the nearby and accessible Glaslyn Osprey watch area is only 2.5 miles away.Nice cool morning with some rain occasionally so a slow start to the day but it brightened up this afternoon into a pleasant day, not too hot here on the coast of West Wales. Bike riding today. Home tomorrow. Enjoyed the CL and the brief sojourn.

Glad you didn't get wet, WN, and were able to fit in a good home ride. Thanks for the information on the property and that about the Ospreys too. They are still there at the moment but it won't be long before they depart.
After early morning rain the day slowly brightened up and we had a fine warm afternoon. Yet another visit to the dentist this morning, and perhaps a call in tomorrow as I am having a problem with my new plate!
I did get the car washed before lunch a d some more weeding done before the guy turned up to service the gas boiler. It could do with a new pump, but all being well that will be replaced under our boiler insurance policy. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed and wait and to hear what the outcome is.1 -
Clearly people around the country having very different weather to us lot "down south". Apparently hottest day of the year in Cambridge, nearly 35 degrees! Still very warm in MK but we do have a nice breeze which hopefully will cool us down. It needs to as it was 28.5 degrees in the bedroom a couple of hours ago!

Here in Bristol it only got to about 23c, but quite humid, even with quite a strong breeze. I’m minded of the time 2 years ago we stayed on the Norfolk Broads site when it got up to 40c. We were stuck on site sat in the shade with our feet in bowls of water, it was just too hot to do anything. Still, it’s looking like normal service (rain) is set to return, just in time for our next trip away 🙁

That’s one of the things we love about the SW. Because it’s coast on three sides, you get such variations, little micro climates. We used to head to Dartmoor on the scorching hot days, find a river, lovely. I think if I had the choice, Dartmoor would be my top place to live. Our kind of place.🥰

We had 30degs yesterday and Lee on the Solent even made it to the national news on BBC1, lovely again today but only 25 degs, lots of people on the beach, but not too crowded, we have very little sand mainly pebbles so that puts a lot of folk offr, but good for us never gets over crowded, low tide was at 10:30 hrs today so should be ok for a swim, water looking real good just now and you dont get the lanolin sliks (sun tan oil) you sometimes get in the popular Med areas, yuk, Spanish daughter at their holiday cottage near Loja, 49 degs yesterday, too hot for me.

It's scorching here on the east coast. Just been out in the car and that's saying 29 degrees - and the same in the van on the drive - with all the roof lights open.
Had a pond cleaning company come and clean the pond today - not been done since I re-lined it about 10 years ago and it was in a bit of a state. The water was full of algae and looked like pea soup! No doubt the massive build up of silt in the bottom had something to do with it. Was fascinating watching them work - all the fish transferred to a massive tank with some of the original water from the pond - pond pumped out and cleaned and then fish back in the pond and filled it up. Dread to think what the water bill is going to be this quarter since about 20,000 litres have gone in
. Good news is that the official verdict was that, despite the apparent state of the water, the fish looked really healthy. Just needs the pond-clear and chlorine remover to do their stuff in the next 24 hours and we should see a total transformation.0 -
Supposed to be raining early this morning but we set off just gone 9.30 and it was still dry. Stayed that way all the way home. We stopped for coffee at Rhug Organic Farm Shop near Corwen on the A5 for a break.
Really enjoyed the 2 night break. Some photos that have finally emerged. The car was at Plas Brondanw and being driven by an elderly German accompanied by his wife. They were touring in style. It's a 100 year old Bentley. You could tell that they came from a wealthy background. Good luck to them. They were enjoying their tour of Wales.
The bridge is still a toll bridge. There is one of the lovely CL.
Everything fine at home. Some developments taking place at the wreck that is next door. Might be seeing the last of the problem, fingers crossed.
Raining here and cool. Sorry for those caught up in the heat and humidity.

After a couple of weeks of feeling below par I seem to be returning to being 'normal'. No idea what it was, my get and go had got up and gone! A bit achy, very unmotivated, some things tasted odd. Covid? I have no idea we no longer have any tests and I wasn't engaging with anyone. Bare essentials done and very short, but off lead dog walks.
Been to darned hot. Stupid hot 🔥 for a few days, so more essentials only, sunlounger cool drink and the draughty spot in the garden. A very pleasant 28c today, such a relief after 34+ yesterday. Almost demanded a turn in takethedogalong's pool! Made do with lying in a cool bath. Can't imagine how our poor daughter in law feels at 8 months pregnant. She's making good use of the cool mat I bought her. Designed for a large dog she has several options on how to use it 🤣
Good to read others news and see photos. Wishing those, and their, relatives who are poorly better.
Harvest started here saturday, could have been Friday but supersistion said no. Didn't help as one load in the shed, combine went bang..... Trip to Nottingham for the part. Turned out it was user error, my family not involved, phew. Luckily the part back on the farm for 1730. Son on call after his day job for carting. Quick lesson on new tractor with a joystick 🕹 as they are DIL down. Not needed last night so hopefully it will continue. I keep my head well down.....
Fabulous reflex session, just what the alternative doctor ordered,this afternoon. Chose not to use the A1 anx had a pleasant shadier drive there and back.

Quite warm here in Bridlington today, but a noticeable cool breeze in the shade. Off home tomorow, so spend a little time packing things away. Decided to go out for a hot drink and cake this afternoon - that failed!!
First stop Burton Agnes Manor House (English Heritage). Heard that there was a cafe there.... turned up and found that the cafe was owned by Burton Agnes Hall (private - not EH). Got free accsss to the Manor House, as EH members), but they wanted to charge us £10 each (garden fee) in order to have a drink at the cafe, which we had to walk through to get to the EH property! We declined!!
Thought we would go to the farm shop & cafe almost next to the site. Arrived just before 3pm only to find it closed at 3pm..... so off we go to the little cafe counter at Danes Dyke. Here the large signs 'Cash Only' was no good for us - we were intending to pay by debit card!! So we gave up!!
In the end, a visit to the local Co-Op for a packet of jam doghnuts and back to the caravan to 'put the kettle on' had to make do and, (apart from the money we spent in fuel,) worked out cheaper!! 😀

Burton Agnes is a funny one DSB, having the EH Manor House right in the grounds of the new Hall. To be honest, you didn’t miss much this time with the Cafe, everything is being refurbished in that block at the moment, and they didn’t have much choice when we were there last week. There’s a nice cafe called The Cowshed at Fraisthorpe Beach, just South of Brid.
