What are you all up to

In a way I was glad it was raining this morning. Stopped her ladyship from pretending she wasn't tired.
It's cleared up now so we might venture out after lunch. For some reason I feel quite at home driving 5 miles down single track roads with few passing places. I feel that there should be a CL around here somewhere.
Sounds like a smashing night Ttda.
Glad you got your bargain DEBSC. Thank you for your kind words. We just do what seems natural but I know what you mean.

We arrived in Somerset early this afternoon got set up ok awning up etc nice sunny weather we took a wander to the pub at the end of the lane and had a couple of drinks out in the beer garden such a nice day. Left home late afternoon on Friday and stayed at our usual CL near Carlisle then yesterday made our way down to Chapel Lane just south of Birmingham our usual stop off on way south. Easy 2 hour tow down here today M5 not busy. Weather here looking promising so fingers crossed. Nothing planned yet but there is lots to do in this area
Hope everyone else has had a nice weekend

Your MIL did very well yesterday, WN, and I am sure she appreciated the restful start to the day today. Hope that the weather picked up and your were able to get out and about in the afternoon.
It looks as if you had a grand time, if a little bit of a damp one, last night, tda. There certainly seemed a grand turnout for the concert, helped perhaps by the match being shown on the big screen.
Sounds as if you got a bargain, Debs, and that you can make good use of it this summer.
Enjoy your stay in Somerset, Francis. Club Site or CL?
It has again stayed fine for most of the day, with just a couple of very short light showers, and we now have a clear sky again. Took a drive over the moors, where we had a couple of miles walk, to Lofthouse for lunch and a short walk up to How Stean Gorge. Stopped off to view the Leeds Old Pals memorial above Leighton Reservoir.

Had to take grandson Luke for a Karate assessment today, he passed and received his Brown/Black belt, now he has to wait 8 years before assessment for Black belt. Sophie, in the meantime had a football practice session at Norwich Cities practice ground

Have to make the most of the day as the weather looks changeable for the rest of the week. Beautiful morning here. Waiting for the ladies to sort themselves out.
Off to Levens Hall. Might have one or two topiary photos later.
Enjoy the day wherever you are.

Enjoy Levens Hall WN. We went a few years a go when staying at Meathop Fell site and absolutely loved it. Looking forward to seeing your topiary photos.
Started off a lovely sunny morning here but the clouds are bubbling up now. I am off with my secateurs to tackle our garden which has gone berserk with all the rain. New dishwasher arriving from JL later today - hooray! - hopefully we can stop washing up by hand. Ours died about a week before we went away. The same week as the tumble drier died . We have had to get our plumber to fit a isolator tap so that the dishwasher can be fitted - new rules apparently.

Thanks for the tip TW
Rain here this morning but weather looking promising for the rest of the week we shall see how that turns out. Not a lot planned for today as we have been on the road a lot over the past couple of days so hoping to just relax today

Somerset is lovely, have a good time Francis. Glad to hear things going well while away WN. I am assuming you have taken Camper? Great as a day out tourer?
Lots more done in Mum’s garden, the last rather neglected and difficult piece is looking really good now. Nothing spent yet, I even found a roll of thick anti weed membrane in her outhouse, so bark will be next. Got some plants doing well in my greenhouse for her. She will only be able to see photos though, cannot get her out into rear garden now.🥲

Enjoy your holiday Francis as we lived in Somerset for 25 years and actually joined the club at Hurn Lane gosh a long time ago.
Glad you managed some gardening Ttda for your mum, we have been cutting some grass and strimming today and oh boy was it hot after lunch as we cannot use noisy equipment until after 2pm so did a bit more and by 2.50pm that was it just to hot at 32C rest will wait until cooler sometime this week we hope, OH off for annual big blood test tomorrow morning so tea at 4pm and a light one due to weather, and then some shopping to do in some hopefully cooler shops.
WN hope you are enjoying your break away.
Our next break might be in September not sure where to go yet as a few things to sort out first.

Thankfully all went well today. Lovely warm sunny day, the sort we've been waiting for all year.
We started off by having a cuppa and the ladies tried the cakes, Frangipane declared delicious you'll be pleased to hear Goldie. Then we wandered, as you do, around the beautiful gardens. Surprised to see the Westmorland Croquet Association out on the green. MiL declared it "Bowls with a hammer" and not as entertaining!
There was an art exhibition stationed around the grounds, for dementia charity. All to do with trees. Canvasses and paintings waterproofed. It was lovely to see.
We were going to stop for lunch but 2 coach loads beat us to it so, on a recommendation from the property owner, we ended up having it at Beatham Nurseries and really enjoyed it. Mind you that was packed as well but they seemed a tad more efficient at service.
Back at cottage by late afternoon. Sitting out amongst the flowers watching the bees and the Swallows.
Enjoying the local produce. Milk (Goldies'?) and cheese and beer from Low Sizergh Barn, New Potatoes, Woodalls bacon and local eggs from Holker and some beer from Bowness from Levens plus fresh local produce from Booths.
Campervan came in handy for fridge when buying stuff from Booths Ttda. Not that handy when meeting bin lorry on single track lane! We survived, just.
Think we're getting your rain tomorrow Francis.

A mere 22c here RK, but that was hot enough. That sounds rather civilised, no noisy machinery before a certain time.
We have had fun this afternoon measuring and trying to decide where to put pool in garden, hard trying to find a perfectly flat spot that is also wide enough. It’s a trial run this year, think we have found a location, and if it works ok, we will get it levelled for next year, and get turf up. It should be up by Weds, so fingers crossed it stays warm now🤞0 -
Lovely photos WN, long time since I visited Levens Hall, it was a trip with other garden volunteers from Brodsworth. We did Sizergh Castle as well, that’s a nice place. That mosaic is beautiful, you have just reminded me I have a book on mosaics🤔 Now there’s a project to contemplate.

Dishwasher arrived late afternoon and I am now trying to work out all the different programmes. We spent a good couple of hours in the garden cutting back, dead heading and tidying up. We seem to have a lot of stuff suddenly growing that we dont know what it is and where we dont want it. However did we manage with the gsrden when we used to come back after 6 weeks or so in France?! After a sunny morning it was cloudy this afternoon and rather humid. No rain though. The forecast for tomorrow isn't too good.
Your grandchildren sound as though they are doing really well with their respective sports OP.
RK I like the idea of a period of no noisy machinery but would prefer it during the afternoon so you could get garden jobs done during the morning when it is cooler.
Lovely photos WN. I especially like the photo of one very plucky lady with her walker.

Good luck with the dishwasher! We have a built in Neff (Bosch) and it has a one hour programme at 60 degrees which we use for almost every wash and seems to work OK. Although once a week I put it on a 70 degree long wash in the hope that it keeps everything clean!!! We have always used Finish dishwasher tablets but we did buy some Waitrose own brand to see how we get in as they are half the price!

I recognise all those on your photos, WN, from our visit there a couple of weeks ago, including the croquet! Pleased to read that MIL is enjoying her wander through the gardens.
Thankfully we have not had those high temperatures that you have experienced, RK, although it has been around the low twenties today, plenty warm enough for OH. We visited Middleham Castle this morning before having our picnic up by the gallops followed by a walk up to the trig point. Very few people about, and only a couple of horses out for a training run, so a lovely quiet walk. Went for a pint of Black Sheep in the local pub this evening, a must when staying so close to its brewery. Deep red sky just now, so hopefully tomorrow will be fine again, although there is rain forecast.
Enjoy your stay in Somerset, Francis. We might venture down that way in the Autumn, but it will be CLs, with possibly the odd THS thrown in, for us.
Good to hear your grandchildren are doing so well sports wise, OP. It won't belong before your next trip away.

Not a bad day today we didn’t want to go too far so took a drive to weston super mare and had a nice walk right along the sea front visiting the RNLI shop then a walk back in to town. Went down the pier and had a pint and a surprisingly nice meal at the bar at the end of the pier very nice food at a great price. Got back to the van around 6pm and it’s rained ever since took a walk to the pub at end of road done the quiz and had a couple of pints watching the karaoke. Back at van now and it’s still pouring not looking promising for tomorrow we shall see I’m sure we will find something to do

Wherenext - Enjoying the local produce. Milk (Goldies'?) and cheese and beer from Low Sizergh Barn, New Potatoes, Woodalls bacon and local eggs from Holker and some beer from Bowness from Levens plus fresh local produce from Booths.
The milk wouldn't be ours, but I think they stock "our" cheese - St Sundays. made with our milk by St James cheesemakers at Holker. And another connect - Low Sizergh is our cousins farm.

Lovely photos Wherenext, I almost feel as though I’ve now met MIL after seeing her photo as well. Good to see the dog managed to get in your photo Nellie.
Everyone seems to be having better weather than us, yesterday was dull and not particularly warm with rain later and raining again today.
Had a shock yesterday, well a nice surprise really, I visited a bank to sort something out, no appointment, and straight away got to speak to a real person! He sorted something out, no, ‘oh you have to do it yourself online,’ rubbish’. No nonsense just sorted. Just like the olden days. Most impressed. Might have to change my main account to them.
Oh has many Drs appointments at present, he hasn’t been to see a GP for years as so difficult to see anyone here, I nagged and nagged and finally a few weeks ago he went. Dr said he couldn’t deal with everything in the allotted time so he has another appointment today and the first appointment has led to lots of nurse and specialist appointments. Glad that I nagged him.

We thought of 'upgrading' our dishwasher as, for some reason, it decided not to fill with water. Fortunately, it's started to work again, so we'll leave well alone, I think. Mind you the rain is coming down today, so might just stick all the dirty dishes in the back garden!!! (Joking) Sorry for those who who are out and about in the rain... hope it clears up soon... especially as we near our big trip out in the caravan...

I think we're heading to Sizergh on one of the days left so I'll pop in and buy some if we do. Both Mrs.WN and self are cheese nuts.
As expected it's persisting down. MiL quite happy to rest up. We've brought waterproofs so if we need to go out we're well equipped. It is the Lake District after all.
I think brighter weather heading Francis' way today.

Love Middleham, it’s a sleepy little place most of the time, but 6.30am all you can hear is the clip clop of hundreds of horses heading to the gallops. The castle is superb, and overlooks an earlier motte. We love it up there.
MIL is doing so well WN, great you can still get out. After yesterdays lovely sunshine, we have heavy rain today, but everything needed a drink.
Glad your dishwasher is delivered Millie, I wouldn’t be without one. We only really use one setting on ours. Gave up on expensive tablets years ago, we just use cheaper ones now. I occasionally shove one down loos as well to stop limescale build up.

Oh! well perhaps my OH breaking her wrist was not all doom & gloom, we cxld our 3 weeks away if we hadnt we would have been travelling, camping etc in the rain. Rained for 2 days here, not cold, but very dull not seen the sun for a couple of days have got my reading light on.
No plans to go away now until September, OH has been invited to join a trial for a newish drug for osteoporosis, got to get some blood tests done first before we see the consultant etc but hopefully she will start the trial soon.

Not too bad up here in the Arctic, some rain mainly overnight. Today started dull, but now sunny. Daughter and family are now on their way here, plane was 45 minutes late leaving Edinburgh, so they will not have a lot of time to wait in Oslo. The boys are very excited about going on a plane for the first time.
My sister and I will soon be setting off , in 2 cars, to drive to town ( a good 90 minutes ) for some shopping, picking up child car seats, and then to collect the visitors later this evening. Will be late before we are back here again.

Dishwashers have a series of floats, usually on the side of the machine but inside the casing. Over the years you can get a build up of muck which interferes with the floats which prevents various actions. An engineer will take it apart and clean everything, I have done it myself. Alternative is to buy a decent dishwasher cleaner and use it on the hottest wash as that will dislodge a lot of the build up. As I mentioned up thread I always set our dishwasher to the hottest wash at least once a week as that will help to.

Thanks for the hint, David. I'll take a look. Carol regularly usually uses a dishwasher cleaner, but wouldn't have a clue what sort... One of the problems may be perhaps that we don't use the dishwasher all the time - we sometimes prefer just to wash up 'manually' straight away....

We arrived home Sunday afternoon, decided to stop overnight at the same CL as on the way up, just as well really as the M6 was busy and there was an accident between junctions 20 & 19 so we were ready for a break. Enjoyed our holiday despite the weather, although I won't be rushing back to visit Morecambe.
Lonely to read others are enjoying their breaks, well done to your MIL Wherenext , lovely pictures too. I also liked shopping in Booths while away, particularly the local produce.
Glad you enjoyed your music event Ttda good luck with sorting your new pool.
It's been wet on and off here too now really warm and muggy, OH has my car in the garage to do the few jobs needed to pass its MOT, It will need 2 new tyres too.
