Life is too short for all of us bar none. There must have been many folk who never got to fulfil their personal dreams not just some of us. Everyone deserves to find their personal nirvana, their happy mind place.

I’m liking this new vibe👍🏻😊. If it’s there spend it, when it ain’t wait a while it’ll be back👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻. It’s our moral duty to spend our way out of the hole some have dug for us, keep Britain moving.

I don't think I mentioned £30 to £50 a night or a white peg did I AD? I was referring to general costs actually.

We are keeping the house in reserve, but otherwise our two have had help when they most needed it......university costs......house deposits.......hand-me-down cars to get them started, so now what is left is for us to spend.  Made a start on that by ordering a new car a while back, plus 2 new bathrooms and a new boiler.

However, the savings pot is for those sort of things, day to day, including holidays,  comes out of pension income.

Via a posting in Motorhome Fun, the CAMC site New England Bay is closing one toilet block and 30 pitches because of a lack of bookings for the rest of the year! Apparently there is a notice in the toilet block. So where does dynamic pricing fit into this then?

This has been published on FB. If true perhaps they should turn some of the site over to a motorhome aire for parking only.wink

I wonder if the lack of popularity is down to New England Bay  only having about 10% of the pitches being hardstandings? Last year we were at Garlieston which majority hardstandings, which is not far away, and it was full most of our visit. If they are only operating at 25% capacity in peak season I wonder how much longer it will be in the network?

New England Bay doesn’t need hard standings. The ground is solid and well drained. It’s very different to Garlieston - more open, less straight rows of pitches. For us it’s almost perfect. Would be perfect if not for the wind!

I just think that now we are in the habit of booking hardstandings, especially motorhomers, and regardless of how well the ground is able to withstand water many may just not know that and vote with their wheels? If I am wrong and it plays no part in the attraction of the site it still means it has difficulties attracting new punters. In many ways it looks the ideal site in a lovely location.

We had a fantastic family holiday there once in the summer holidays. It was, is, an excellent site for a young family as it's on the beach, had excellent facilities for children with a  play ground and playroom and we had excellent weather half the time.

However the only way is north to anywhere else and after thoroughly exploring the area (including northern Ireland) it wasn't on our list of a site to return to, perhaps added to as few HS. Yes it didn't flood but the grass did get wet and there were at the time a very large number of rabbits who left deposits everywhere on it.

So I can sort of understand with the location (mainly) and uncertainty of the weather why it's not as popular  as it was.

We would certainly go back, and did, to Garliston though.

That will add to the free draining aspect C👍🏻. I had a full week of non stop sun around 8yrs ago. It’s a water sports dream👏🏻👏🏻

The Mull of Galloway is lovely and I agree with Goldie's comments about the pitches. We had relatives in the area so have stayed on both sites and in various other places locally. I used to think it was popular with Scottish members who could get there easily, take boats etc. I wonder why the bookings are down, is it too expensive or not enough local facilities? Sorry to hear that bookings are down, there aren't many coastal sites with a good beach adjoining.

Having been on many holidays up and down the length of the west coast I’d suggest being daring. I know it’s easier for us with a tiny towed car behind the smallish motorhome to get off that caravan  beaten track and go to places only camper vans, cars and tents can go. When the roads determine then Mrs SF drives those last few miles solo. We’ve had some fabulous experiences doing just this and visited some absolutely awe inspiring places away from those pesky wee beasties and the crowds of regular tourists. Doing this the world becomes your oyster so to speak.

At £42.70 for a family with 2 school age children, in the summer holidays,  price is probably the problem, especially being relatively remote.

Our lot are off to a lovely site near Aberdeen for a week in the holidays, and they will pay £38.50 for a fully serviced pitch....and no membership fee to pay first.

I think you are right KJ although there are still some who enjoy the simplicity of a site like New England Bay and it's excellent for those with boats etc. But when you're spending hard earned cash on the relatively few family holidays you can take when working I can see why families opt for VFM sites with more possibilities. smile

    I hadn't realised that!

We're planning on going there, but not sure when, so maybe we can'r take advantage of it. I must look into it. But, being boring old pensioners who go to the same sites every year, we will probably go anyway (despite the cost).

Unfortunately we've no idea when we can get away. June is hectic according to the calendar, then as we get into July (if the grass is ready again) there's second cut silage. Then after mid-July we cut the hay meadows . . . and so it goes on.

There's no way we can give 21 days notice of amendments etc, so we will just bit the bullet and pay whatever.

It's only a holiday, not a necessity and we're lucky to be able to afford it, and the world won't stop if all we get is an afternoon off at home. In fact, it's warm and sunny outside now, so I've packed up work for the day, and taking my Kindle outside.
