Surely, David, people are pleased to see full sites because it means their club is doing well?
I hope you’re not meaning that folk should be talking down the popular sites 🤔

Maybe but it’s a sign of a prospering business and the individual's choice whether to use the sites. The same choice that you exercise now. I’d have thought you’d be happy to see CAMC doing well 🤷🏻♂️

You & I are happy the CAMC are doing well TW regardless of whether we are members or not. I truly hope the CAMC goes from strength to strength👍🏻

Having been on sites very recently that were full, and plenty before that, I wondering what this lack of choice refers to?
And even when sites are full there's no strain on facilities that I've noticed and while full they never feel packed, they are different things in my view.

Precisely. If nothing else, it’s a good omen for the hobby as a whole.
Who knows where our future paths may lead and a thriving club might be exactly what we’re looking for one day 👍🏻

Just booked York midweek break £51 per night for 4 nts , been a few times to this site before and know its pricey but come on CC !! Been a member for close to 15 yrs.' don't feel any attachment to this club now , seems more interested in fleecing its members !

The answer is simply not to pay it Buster. There are other alternatives for York. If folks keep going, why should the Club think about lowering prices, it’s easy money for them, and they aren’t going to change anything. Just marketing common sense🤷♀️

Yes for sure. There are 71 other sites within ten miles of York. Quite a choice.

But how many can you walk into and out from the centre of the city in just 5 mins? 24hr secure parking for not only a car but also caravan, awning and the dog. What’s more, you’ll have your own comfy bed and although communal the facilities aren’t bad either. It’s a different experience to those rural sites we mostly stay at and worth a little more outlay now and again for a city centre break but once the total outlay is above Travel Lodge prices I do start to question it a tad.

For some sites I would agree with you. However, in the case of city centre locations, such as this and Baltic Wharf, I think they have pitched them about right. Of course I would prefer they were a bit less, but even at the prices asked they are popular. Just out of interest I looked up the price of York city centre Travelodge. Even going as far forward as October I could only get it down to £80 midweek, with another £17.50 a night for parking. Nothing against TL, we do occasionally use them, however personally I would take our MH over one any day.😀

Yes +1 but even at or above travel lodge prices I personally find using my caravan far more comfortable and relaxing than using an hotel room most times. I know where everything is, and in fact it's already there, no unpacking, and the mini bar is stocked exactly as I like it
. The food is cheaper too most of the time!

We're both pretty fit (all that dog walking has to pay off!
) but to say Bath is walkable from BMW is stretching things a bit! 
Certainly not the same as YRP. The big benefit is the "park & ride" just over the road.2 -
What we don't know about City centre sites are the possible increased costs of running them that could impact on the prices charged? We all have a choice whether we pay to stay on a campsite or a hotel and I assume that decision is made on the basis of what people prefer. Maybe some people don't like hotels and feel more comfortable on a campsite, that is personal choice, no one is being forced. My concern is that campsites in city centres, unless the freehold is owned by the Club, are vulnerable and in time they could all disappear.

My conclusion is that choosing an alternative site to one of the Club's City Centre sites means extra fuel costs, having to pay high parking charges, especially if there is no Park and Ride, and wasted time travelling into town. If BW or YRP are not for you, so be it - others think differently.
Also, for a meaningful comparison, hotel costs quoted should be for the same City Centre locations and for the same time period.

Visitors to cities such as Plymouth and Truro leave their cars and motorhomes on out of town campsites and catch a bus into town.. That’s the way forward for other cities too. There is no future for city centre campsites. And for most older people withbus passes the bus is free. Is that a hardship worth meaning about?

It will of course also depend on the emissions of your vehicle, if the site is within an LEZ as with BW and Abbey Wood. It may well be cheaper to stay outside and use public transport, even if you have to pay for it.
We have used Abbey Wood for visiting London as the train or now Elizabeth Line is a convenient short walk away. However, our MH is zero rated. If it wasn’t it would be cheaper to stay at the oppositions site at Kelvedon Hatch, which we did recently. There a bus ride will take you to the Elizabeth Line at Brentwood. Fares are more expensive as you are further out of London, but it is clear of the LEZ.

I have no issue with that providing the bus connections are close to the campsite, Cayton Village springs to mind as a good example, and Seacroft equally so. However if you are meaning Riverside in Plymouth it is a bit of a hike to the bus stop and don't forget not all of us are fleet of foot. Someone suggested taxi's. This is a good suggestion but it does very much depend where you are. I was quite shocked at the price people in Plymouth pay for the their taxi's and many smaller towns have a far less reliable service. Everything is possible, but please do your research before you go.

The Coypool P&R isn’t far from the Riverside site at Plymouth, whether you drive or walk. Buses don’t run on Sundays or bank hols.
