We know a local caravan site owner and hearing his comments about bookings in general it looks as though it's been a more than usual quiet start to the year. Whether higher CAMC prices have put people off remains to be seen.

and only 45 minutes from home, tks for the info, we used Rooksbury for 3 weeks as  base when we lived in caravan when we moved south from Scotland, Rooksbury is 30 mins from home, used it since just for short weekends to check out new camping kit etc, Bow Hill looks very nice, will certainly consider giving it a shot, maybe later in the year. Enjoy your stay

The last CL we were on last week, we were the only ones there the first night, then the next day one more van arrived.  Their neighbouring commercial site was also sparsely occupied.  When I went to pay, the lady agreed that it was very quiet on the sites compared to previous years.

factor in the weather which has been a bit grim north of Watford Gap and an increase in pitch fees and you have a no win situation

I think everywhere is quiet at present Kjell. There's a small site in the village near us that only has one van on and speaking with the owner his bookings aren't picking up. The oldest affiliated site on our network near us "Damage Barton" only has 25 vans on and that's normally full by now. Personally I think living costs, site fees and rubbish weather have all contributed to the slowest start to the season that I've experienced.

Been on 1 club site in the last 12 months, the clubs prices are now similar to Haven sites and ones with more to offer so with 2 kids its a no brainer, £70 a night for York? no thank you

On another forum someone mentioned that the CAMC site next door to a commercial was only half full. Yesterday's Email touting vacancies for the May bank holidays so close to the dates suggests that take-up is significantly lower than might be expected. Perhaps people really are voting with their wheels.

I think JK is right, the number of empty CLs last weekend in North Norfolk was really surprising

The economic situation was bound to catch up with the leisure industry eventually. Whether the forecast downturn in LV sales happens soon remains to be seen but seems likely. Meantime, it seems folk are watching the pennies and not going away so much which is to be expected.

There could be all sorts of reasons for sites to be quiet at this time of year and perhaps price is just one element. The new booking system, where a deposit is required, tends to concentrate the mind on whether someone will honour that booking. Where as with old system you could book months ahead I suspect people are no longer doing that. Even the better off will still be paying more for their weekly shop! Perhaps that explosion of new campers during COVID has disappeared. We have not been away this year yet, when in the past we would have had at least one trip. We just seem to have a mass of mainly medical appointments that we need to break from from! Mid May looks to be our likely first trip which from reading on here about the trips people are doing is way behind the curve!

Our daughter is getting back into caravanning, using our caravan, and has joined some group on facebook, she was saying that some who bought LVs during the pandemic, and are now looking to sell them, are finding it difficult.

However it seems they have unrealistic expectations on price, not realising how much value the LV will lose in the first year.  This person had posted the price they wanted for a  2 year old caravan in a private sale and was told it was far too high.

We called in at a dealer while away, to look at Adria vans, which it turned out they did not stock at that location, and their yard was full of vans, mostly new, with not that many marked as sold.  The whole place was very quiet, only us and one other person looking around.

Having seen the prices of new vans, we were not surprised!

It seems quite variable.  The CL we used  before our last one was full while we were there.

It was however an ideal CL as far as we were concerned, HS, EHU, water and waste disposal on the pitch, security gate........£20 per night......so not surprised it was busy.  Good MH service point too.

We're going away next week, for the first time for nearly a year. I can't remember what we paid last year (and I've too much to do today to look back at the emails) but £92.40 for two adults for four nights seems perfectly reasonable!

Maybe I should add - standard pitch, not a Bank Holiday, no facility site. Perfect!

£92,40 to put your caravan in a field?  Seems pretty outrageous to me. Wish I was the landowner. Money spinner!

01/07-15/07 haycraft- £560, same dates le col vert, France £280, same dates well advertised commercial site just outside Torquay £360. As much as I like haycraft I will excercise my right to common sense and book Devon. It is evident that my membership of the camc is no longer value for money and I have booked commercial sites over the club this year for a lot less money. The sites I have booked have good facilities, are clean and the electric is not metered. After 16 years membership I think it is time.

not at all David, although i am away, not in the caravan, return early next week and caravan will get its first outing Friday May 12th for 10 days to oggie oggie land, quite looking forward to it, have to admit club site fees are a bit of a shocker, but never have been a great fan of club sites so am using a very small commercial site which for me is better value for money

Our first trip away will be next week, a lovely CL for £18 per night. It’s only my caring duties keeping us at home.☹️ It’s not a field either. Landscaped garden, picnic tables, lovely views, cafe on site and free wifi. Edge of a very nice village and lots to do, see, cycle and walk.

Meanwhile, we have had the latest sale update from the Club……🤣

advanced booking works for me if you can choose your pitch at time of booking, at least you then you have a better idea of what you will be getting for your moneylaughing

I live surrounded by fields, a caravan site will make a nice change. Since Lockdown we have taken our caravan down our fields and had a couple of days off grid. But as the last year has been challenging in several ways I am willing to pay whatever it takes to get away.

I agree completely,I have already made up my mind not to renew. It seems the caravan club are charged more for their energy costs the prices they are now charging.

Just looked back my records. We stayed on that site last year it was £21.90 for a standard pitch so the price hasn't gone up to much.

    Enjoy your break.

Had a last minute getaway over coronation weekend priced one club site and two commercial sites  offering similar fascilities one of the commercials was close to the club site, prices were £136 for the club site for two adults, the commercial close by for a serviced pitch £125 and the second commercial further down the coast was £72.
