Yes the £76 included everything spent from the day of leaving until the day of return. We were away 30 days and the average site fee was £24.77 per night. 11 of the nights were on C&MC sites. My planned Contiental trip will be 42/44 days. I have had to book one site (no deposit) because of public holidays and the cost is 26 euros per night with electric.

It might work out cheaper or the same, but if we gave up our UK tour and did two in Europe, we wouldn’t get to visit UK places and countryside. As I put above it’s all about location, rather than purely cost.

My thinking is the better value over there rather than costs (within reaason) and there aren't many corners of the UK that I have not visited.

we didn't pay that much for any of the cottages/hotels we used last year, even taking fuel costs into consideration!

What time of the year was that M? We were away June into July.

So how does that make touring overseas cheaper than here? What’s more, how does it help folk like the OP and Briang who have an issue with CAMC site prices which is what this thread is about?

Btw, do you not eat when at home? For your figures to be meaningful they need to reflect that fact and the energy costs saved when not using your house and any petrol/diesel you’d use at home.

If you have and issue with C&MC site pricing go elsewhere. My thinking is increasingly elsewhere looks like overthere. I don't see why you consider the figures not meaningful just because I have not taken into account not living at home. We are comparing one type of holiday with another here not with the costs of running a home. The costs of running a home per day would be the same regardless of what type of holiday I took and many of the charges are still payable even while not in residence.

You completely miss the point, PD.

Incidentally, I have no issue with prices.

I see the same old moans about prices again , it’s very simple,if you think something is more than you want to pay ,then either don’t pay it or find an alternative that is in your price bracket .

If the Club has set its prices about the right level then site occupancy figures will meet the targets and expectations that have been set.

But if bookings and site occupancy figures are disappointing then financial managers at head office will look at ways of boosting  sales figures by some sort of mid season sale or special offer.

    Doesn’t every business do this?

We were there the week before last (when we had a lot of snow) and paid the same as you.  Not found a CAMC site at that price.  In the past we've used Lady Margaret at Chirk and Meathop Fell in January, as they're not too far from home and open all year of course.  But I no longer find those sites value for money, at £30 per night for LMP and just 30p less than that for Meathop.  I realise they're not in the same area, but Delamere Forest actually is better in some ways, with lots of walking on the doorstep, both within the forest and out of it, which we took advantage of.

One hotel was in March, the other September, but the prices, booked through Pets Pyjamas, were pretty much the same all year.

The cottages were in May and cost approx £450 each.

I only calculate prices on what we pay for accommodation and fuel. Food & drink etc is similar to what we'd spend at home anyway. smile

Yep, nothing new there. It’s a common sense factor that we all surely apply to every facet of life. 👍🏻

It would seem that some on here don’t,and keep paying overinflated prices ,or they just like to keep moaning

    And PD too now!

But then others get upset when this is mentioned for some reason?

It is the only recourse to those that do not want to pay the prices the club set - isn't it?

Not puzzling it at all TW, the reason I now make little use of Club sites is because very often there is better value to me in alternatives. While it is not only the Club that have raised prices, it does look like Club sites have risen more than most.

AD, I have started using Searchforsites for those night halts to the ferry.

Their map is good, you can decide where in the country you want to search, then close in to see the finer details.

There are reviews from past uses and should you wish to book a direct link to websites and phone numbers. All done from that one search.

I've booked a CL for our next trip using this method, so much easier than using the CAMC site.

We started using Searchforsites last year, its opened a whole different choices.

Just returned from Sandringham having paid £46 a night . I am absolutely shocked that they can justify such a huge price increase. We stay in a small campervan and use a minimum of electricity. We don’t have an awning or a heater as the van heating runs on diesel. The lights are powered by our own battery . The hook up covers fridge and electric kettle.

I priced a similar stay at C&CC next door and it works out at £26 a night for the same deal. This will end our membership of the club which has been our first choice for caravan ing for the past 10 years,

Shame on you for such a move without proper consultation with members or regard for the challenges they face

I have been a member of the Caravan club since 1975 but joined Camping and Caravan Club because of the ever increasing site fees.  I have just booked two nights next week and my options were Caravan Club at their Castleton Site for £91+ and Camping and Caravan Club Site at Keswick for £74.40.  Which one would you choose?

It would depend where I wanted to be and I’d not choose Keswick if I wanted to be in Castleton. Location is key unless you don’t bother where you are. 🤷🏻‍♂️

We have stayed stayed at both and really liked the site in Keswick. However, Keswick is 164 miles away and Castleton, which we also like, is only only 39 miles. Therefore if only going for a two day break the extra fuel to get our MH to Keswick would cost £62. We would choose Castleton.

We are mid-way between the two so on this occasion distance didn't matter for us.  I have only chosen the two examples to demonstrate how expensive the Caravan Club has now become.  Both of the examples are excellent sites in very popular locations.  I would be interested if the Caravan Club would explain why their sites in general are now more expensive than Camping and Caravan Club sites.

In your example it is only so much cheaper because of Age related discount. Anyone younger will be paying £94.20 for the same stay, £2.80 more than Castleton. Whilst I am also happy enough to accept the discount, I do accept that someone else is likely to be subsidising it. In that respect the CAMC have a fairer policy in that any discounts are open to all ages. OK they might be easier for us retired go anytime folk to take up, but they do not preclude younger members.

It's unusual for the C&Cc to offer discounts in the main holiday times on their most popular sites or even a two night break. It's normally a five or three night minimum at peak times. The C&CC are offering good discounts for everyone just now not just age concessions but the sites and times are limited. However they are also discounting the age discount so worth a look if the dates and place suit. wink

It may also be that the Camping and Caravan Club recognise that people who are retired generally spend more time using their caravan or motorhome etc and it is financially beneficial for the club to give discounts to boost site usage..  The additional revenue it generates can only be beneficial for the club and all its members regardless of age.

If I wanted to climb Catbells it'd be Keswick, but if I wanted to climb Mam Tor I'd choose Castleton. It really is a simple as that! smile
