Had a very enjoyable if loud evening yesterday , went with my youngest lad to see UK Pink Floyd Experience , a very good tribute band. Scary to be informed that it's 50years this month that The dark side of the moon album was released !. Where have all those year's gone ??🤔.

Talking of Goldie and the search for water. We had an old house in Warwicks with a very deep well, it gave me vertigo looking down it. I was out doing some gardening one day when I sank to my knees..another well discovered. I've never dowsed for water but there are a lot of wells around that have been filled in so I suppose the old well system worked for most.
OH cleaned the outside of the M/H yesterday in the hope we might get away which seems unlikely.
DK we recently put a light in our unlit cloaks cupboard...it now blinds us when we open the door but at least we can see what's in there.

On our trip to collect the motorhome yesterday we used the Newport Pagnell bypass heading north towards Olney. I noticed that someone had dumped an old washing machine in one of the laybys. What is odd is that to get to that layby they would have had to pass within a couple of hundred metres of the Newport Pagnell Civic Amenity Site! Be interesting to see into the minds of such people. I did suggest to Margaret that if someone could find the serial number of the washing machine the previous owners could be traced if they had registered it for warranty purposes, she told be to concentrate on the road!

Well the field is now being planted with trees not sure what but will go out later and have a look, 1 man was out until quite late last night with a petrol powered auger doing all the holes for the trees and still at it this morning, looks like they are trying to get things done before the rain coming on Tuesday.
Another sharp frost and sunny again today and will be helping OH with the wood in our sitting out wooden arbour which we call the bandstand as it has gone a bit springy not good when you sit down on the chairs in there, mini greenhouse will go up tomorrow as base all done ground not as stoney thankfully.

Our freshly reboarded and plastered ensuite still has a few narrow damp areas. It's been nearly 2 weeks. We've had door open, window ajar and gentle heat.
I probably could give it a watered down coat but I'll continue to wait 😉. Why risk it??

B2, 2 weeks is a long time! Did you have to have all the outer walls removed to do the insulation? And the shower, tiles etc? A big job if so!
Although we had to get all our walls removed as the tiles just wrecked them, it was only the ceiling that was skimmed and needed to be painted as everywhere else was re-tiled

He did the ceiling on Friday. I have just looked at it and it's about 90% dry. It's only a skim over the original Artex, so unlike the kitchen where it was a two stage plastering it shouldn't take as long to dry. I don't think it will completely dry out today which is a shame. I wanted to paint it before the downlighters went is as they will be more difficult to paint round! Not quite sure what is happening on Monday yet. It depends when the electrician is available. If he can't come on Monday the Fitter said he would be here about midday so that would give me a chance to paint it in the morning? That's the only problem with using contractors to do work like kitchens and bathrooms you have to work to their timetable if you want to avoid further costs.

No the hanging tiles were removed on the outside walls, insulated with as thick as possible. We had Upvc boards instead of hanging tiles replaced. Just the ceiling had to come down - again as much insulation as possible.
Not sure if it's still damp, but it is slightly darker in places. So will leave for a bit longer. I might even be able to find a decorator before I feel the urge 😉. I'm not a painter of vertical surfaces without much splashback! I dread to think about ceiling painting, let alone with a more liquid paint 😱😱😱

Should be OK for tomorrow then. I think our ceiling was done on the Saturday morning and I painted it on the Monday evening and the Tuesday evening, before the walls were all tiled. They left the downlights dangling till I was finished, which was good.
The 2 fellows we had mainly work alone, one of them does the plumbing and simple electrics, which ours were, as no new circuits required. For more serious stuff they bring in an electrician. They do get a separate plasterer, and also have a tiler they can call on if necessary, but they did all ours themselves.

The original dormer was built without using any insulation? Or was the dormer a later addition? Bad either way! Surely Building Regs would require insulation?
I am not a fan of painting ceilings either, but we have a long pole for the roller, which makes things a bit easier. Also a skinny roller which is great for corners.

When we had our utility ceiling replastered last year we left it a week before painting. When I say 'we' I actually mean OH 😁.

It was an original dormer. Built 1974. Shows that regs were either not in place or inspected!
The house has cavity wall insulation inserted at a later date. Never occurred to us that the dormer wouldn't have been included. Not mentioned by the surveyor - hindsight is a wonderful thing! They refurished it beautifully, but spoilt the ship for a hapenny of tar!
Hopefully it'll be the last surprise the house offers 🤞

Weather here has turned positively artic, 🥶🥶 Just waiting for some snow 🌨
Spent yesterday on the hunt for a wheel barrow wheel, which we soon discovered wasn't easy, Ebay came to the rescue in the end.
Also had a trip to Chipping Norton yesterday, surprisingly busy, but then all car parking is free!
My mobile rang just as we pulled into the car park, Churchill Hospital,a follow up appointment, which I knew nothing about 😱 oh well luckily I could talk in the car. 🤣
Had a look through the OS maps in the Oxfam bookshop, but didn't have any we wanted this time.
Found out this morning neighbour has Covid, just hoping she didn't pass it on as we met up on Thursday for coffee 🤞🤔
Hope you've all had a good weekend.
Bakers2 we also fitted panels over the tiles in the bathroom, OH said he'd originally put the tiles up, and he didn't fancy trying to take them off! 😉🤣

Sincere apologies for the white stuff. At least it's not cold 😉
Grandson woke from his nap, so pressed reply. Shocked at all that clear air as snow boarders would say!
HelenandTrevor where and what did you purchases for your bathroom? Good luck with your appointment

Lovely and warm here in Lanzarote, 😎 sorry folks. Warmer than normal at this time of year.
Everything seems to be back to normal on the island. Restaurants busy, pubs busy and resorts busy. Still suffering shortages of staff everywhere though.
I hope the new beast from the east isn't as bad as the last one was.
Hope all the DIY and building projects go well.
Take care folks.

B2........Our first house in UK, which we had for 5 years, was built in 1965, we bought it in 1970. I think at that time we did not bother much about insulation, though in Norway it was already important. Much colder there of course
We moved in 1975 to a chalet type house where the bathroom was in a dormer. 2 bedrooms upstairs with sloping ceilings.
In 1978 we had a very cold winter and at New Year 1978/9 we had frozen and then burst pipes in the space outside of the upstairs rooms. We were at OH's parents and got a call from the police to say neighbours had reported water cascading out of our house!! Local Police had broken in and we told them where to find the stop cock, so they turned off water.
Water had come down into lounge, ceiling ruined, carpet ruined, minor furniture damage. After that we became very "insulation aware" !! The water pipes to the bathroom were totally uninsulated, and made of stainless steel, which is worse than copper.
Anyway, we soon insulated everything we could, but the sides of the bathroom dormer were impossible to do much with without removing outside finish, as you have discovered. Had we stayed there we would no doubt have got around to it, but in 1987/88 we moved to a rented property while our present house was being built.
Insulation was of course a priority!

Had another dry day, although a bit cloudy and cool. Another 4 ml walk this time in Gisburn Forest by Stocks Res. Unfortunately there had been a call of trees over the winter which obstructed the path so we did more distance than intended, but it could have been worse but thanks to a gent out with his children who put us on the right path we found the car park without too much difficulty. There were a group there who were training "Search and Rescue" dogs but not for any specific organisation but just for their, and the dog's, pleasure.
Am now enjoying a bottle of Welsh cider, Black Dragon, a present from a close friend, and can thoroughly recommend it.😃

Does snow clearance come within the remit of mods?

For the last week or so my desktop computer has been making a bit of a noise. As it eventually stops I've been ignoring it. I know it's probably clogged up inside with dust and anything else it has sucked in. It's in the main room in our house - known as the kitchen as it's where the Aga is - and it gets very very dusty (re the Aga dust). Last week the computer noise didn't stop so I switched it off and rang a local independant computer business and someone is coming out to look at it tomorrow.
Luckliy I'm very aware of "business continuity" and I have a decent laptop as a backup. I regularly copy data over from the desktop. And, for years I've been automatically backing up to an external disk every 10 minutes. Yesterday we had a massive clean up round the back of the desk and sorted out the dusty wires. I unplugged the backup disk and then plugged it into the laptop. I was extremely relieved to see my strategy had worked - years and years of data.
I'm hoping there won't be a costly repair and that it's just the fan and a need for a deep clean.

OH has been outside today, this time with some help to get the fencing done and hopefully a good section finished before the weather turns. They've now got half way so that's progress although slowed a bit by lots of chats with people on the footpath.
Don't know that cider Nellie, hope it was tasty, we often share a "Sheppy" with our lunch, it's nice and light.
Enjoy your holiday TammyG, nice to have some warm weather.
Best wishes to Deleted User User, mentioned on another thread, hope the entertainment committee on here are doing just that....hope you'll be home soon.
Put some new curtains up today (Bakers2, we're all curtain poles here, so fairly easy) surprising how a small change brightens up a room but not so easy getting up and down stepladders with fiddly curtain hooks.
Good luck with the weather one and all....!

A few dense snow flurries over at Consett during which it was white out conditions but they only lasted a few minutes, much to the disappointment of all

Busy day today. Had bloods taken this morning then OH and I scooted off on a 4 night break to Llandudno.
We stopped off at the bird reserve at Conway, on the estuary for about 3 hours, dodging rain showers then went to Tesco to pick up some food and petrol (£1.58 for diesel) then onwards and upwards, literally as cottage halfway up the Great Orme. Fantastic views and the cottage seems cosy enough. Bit worried though as local weather forecast is from "Llandudno Ski and Snowboard Centre". I've forgotten to bring my Skis and might even need them.
Sun due to shine tomorrow so will take a snap from cottage then.
Our wedding anniversary later this week and the weather reminds us of that day. Sun, hail, sleet, snow and ice all in one day, so much so that guests couldn't get to reception in Lancashire hills in the evening. Think we got the scrabble board out.
Belated birthday wishes to Ttda.
