New Booking System

Same here. Hope that it is not a done deal as,we use the SD as much as the website directory of the app. Agree with Arch that the app doesn't work properly, regardless of what some want us to believe.

Thanks peedee, I did start reading the T&Cs but lost the will to live.
Guess I will only book a few days before going away in future. That's if we bother to renew.
We got the email mentioned earlier, just Deleted User it, didn't bother to open it.

I wonder how many will get caught out, which I guess is just what those at HO are hoping so that they can then turn round and say "look x number just want the digital version, so that's all that we will give in the future"

Agree, Peedee. I have tried to find a reference to it on the club's website but can't find anything, although others might have more idea about where they may have hidden it, that is if they have posted something on the web site about it.

We have not received an email asking about going paperless or similar. This thread prompted me to check my preferences and I discovered that as well as choosing not to have the monthly magazine. I appear to have also chose to be paperless. Now, I do not remember ever seeing that on the list, and certainly would never have chosen to not receive a Sites Directory or Membership Card. I will try to phone the club tomorrow and try to communicate with them paperlessly and temperlessly.

it is now claimed that these have been fixed:
✓ Simplified Google map functionality - removing 'other' countries (USA, Canada etc)
✓ New Club App to default to the search box rather than the map searchThe search a location is better but in order to eliminate other countries you need to complete the search text or most of it.
There has been no change on the Club App but this might be down to the update hasn't filtered down onto Google Play yet?
The two new objectives are:
1. All site types (including Certificated Locations) will automatically show when starting a search
2. A link to the Certificated Location site details webpage will be added into the contact informationI hope 1. doesn't slow the search down and that you have the choice to remove Club sites from the search for CLs. 2. should have been available from introduction. I still remain in disbelief that it wasn't.

My wife has had this problem too. What is really annoying is the continual pestering to go paperless. I've told you before what my preferences are. Why do you need to keep asking me?
It may be prudent to keep your latest handbook just in case they arbitrarily discontinue its publication. I suspect that such an action would be the final straw for many and could precipitate an exodus. I wonder if 'directory updates' will be dropped from the magazine as a first step.

1. All site types (including Certificated Locations) will automatically show when starting a search
That seems a bit odd. When you go to find a UK campsite you are presented with two options. Club campsites and Certified locations.
If I select club sites why would I want certified locations to show and vice versa if I select certified locations. By all mean provide the option of showing them, however why everything as a default. That is just going to slow things up, particularly on older devices.Similar to you with the App PD. No update in the App Store yet.

I’m sure they will make the figures match their agenda. If they really wanted to gauge support, or lack of it, they would have put two buttons on the email. Yes Please and No stay as I am, as I get more or less every time I log into online banking.

I think comments on the AGM have knocked the booking system off the number one spot of hot topics 😂

Hi, in the scale of things this is really trivial but just wondered if the new system will be reviewed to improve the 'My Bookings' part, where we can bring up a list of future trips? Under the old system sites booked would be simply listed to show site name, dates booked, ref number and little else. Very handy because in my case (old fashioned I know!) I would highlight them and copy and paste them onto a word document which I then printed to pin on our notice board - an easy reminder of where we had booked. In the new system, the list contains all sorts of details that seem irrelevant if you just want a handy reminder of trips booked. Worse of all, the actual site names are not shown, you have to open each booking to see where you had booked to go to. That then makes the process of copying and pasting a lot more cumbersome. So it would be good i think if the page content could revert to Site name, Dates booked, Ref number (if really needed). Everything else can be found in the email confirmation that accompanies every booking!
Like i said, very trivial in the scale of things but its what I was used to!

It's trivial compared to the pandemic, the state of our economy and conflicts around the world but, in the realms of CAMC and trying to book sites, this debacle of a booking system is major.

Haven Holidays must love CAMC, their Devon Cliffs holiday site is still top of the list on the Devon location holiday search!!
I wonder if CAMC sites feature so prominently on the Haven Holidays Web site?
I just can't understand why CAMC say this system is fit for purpose or that fixes have been made.

Works reasonably well for me brue, OK not perfect but very useable. It has certainly improved in recent days.
For instance a search for something around Bovey Tracey. Put in the name and OK not top of list but it was there. Touch on it and the map and list in the attached picture was displayed. No zooming or panning or anything. I’ve tried it for a few places around the UK and it works similarly well. Things are definitely getting better. However, as has been mentioned earlier older devices do seem to struggle. It is fairly memory hungry and works better if you start off with a clear cache.1 -
Presumably that's on a Desktop, it certainly doesn't display like that on my Android tablet or phone. I like to book as I go along on a trip, so don't want to take a PC or laptop with me. I have sussed it now on how to book a club site if I know where and when I want to go but would love to see the old way if displaying availability at sites in the next 3 weeks or to be able to enter a distance from a specific town and get all sites and CLs in that area.

Steve, I've just done the same search on my iPad , Bovey Tracey. Got same sort of answer but my map window was much slimmer...mine only works in portrait...it won't switch to landscape which would give a bigger map view along the site list...

I've just discovered that the website will rotate to landscape and I get same screen as SteveL on my Android tablet but the app (which I always use) will not rotate. I thought the app was simply a gateway to the booking section of the website, something else that needs work. So thanks for making me look.

I tried to use the new booking system look for a CL a few weeks ago, had to give up after an hour of hopeless and frustrating searching.
This week I stayed a few minutes later at work so I thought I'd try using the booking system on my desktop. Have to say although not perfect it worked better, would like a link to the CL site directions though.
Not very practical having to search/ book using the work desktop all the time!! 🤔 Hears hoping it will eventually work as well on phones and tablets.🤞

I assume you have it working ok now using the web site. I am like SteveL and not having any problems using my desktop or tablet but as pointed out using a small screen device like a phone even on the website is a real fiddle and the App is a near dead loss.
Contrary to what they originally said at the beginning of the week, the App has not had its default set to show the list. The Club is now saying it has still to be done. I doubt even this change will make it as good as the previous App.

Steve, my point was about the strange mixture of places that come up on a search and I really don't think an in house booking system needs to contain a rival companies (in this case Haven) caravan park. I'm sure many of us can get round the system but it would be so much better if the system was straightforward. As I've said before all my devices are up to date, they're not old, most of the time I'm using an Android 12 phone. Why would anyone want to find private and other commercial addresses on an in house holiday site search?
I think basically I'm tired of reading statements from CAMC that the system was successfully introduced after lots of testing and just a few fixes are needed! The fix list is now very long in the booking experience section!
However in the scheme of things it's their problem not mine but I hope they do take on board what is being said and reported.

H&T
I suspect all these programs are developed on desktop computers and I imagine the Apps have to work round the original program? Personally I am a slave to a keyboard and only use apps to find information or to check things, like banking or checking the central heating when we are away in the winter. I would rarely have a need to book whilst away from home so I tend to use my PC to make bookings. I am yet to book a site on the new system so there is still time for it to all go wrong for me

David,
Only being able to use a PC to make a booking easily and successfully isn't good even at home if you haven't got one. It should really work well on all devices, the old system did.
