New Booking System

I don’t think your experiences with other providers will serve to pacify those who have suffered at the hands of CAMC's new system.

TG on my android phone I couldn't proceed without providing a DOB for my OH and the calendar provided wouldn't budge unless a painfully slow manual adjustment took place, I got as far back as 2000 and decided that would prove OH was an adult....think 20mins allowance and this eats into booking time.
Using a laptop improved the calendar experience.
Obviously booking in another member should not require details and I don't recall having to do this with the C&CC, I just add another to the A/C account no further details because cards are checked on arrival and adjustments can be made.
I am now stuck with a payment against my bank account and no booking, tel lines too busy to sort. Hoping for a response to my e mail but this is likely to be a lengthy wait.
I am very angry that CAMC has taken money twice from my account. One amount has now been removed, possibly because I asked the bank to cancel when it was pending. I left a note for the bank about CAMC!
I am aware that other new web sites fail. I recall John lewis and their on line wedding present lists having a very shaky start. But that was a long time ago and web site developments have improved since then.
Out of interest about the credit card suggestion I don't have one, I like to pay as I go.

i”m still puzzled about this business of in-putting birthday for wife / partner / mistress / or lover . All I was asked for was number of people - it didn’t ask which woman I was taking. None of them are joint members anyway. Alice says does that mean some ladies will get a birthday card from East Grinstead but she won’t? Why such discrimination? I told her I was taking someone else.

I'm still waiting to hear an answer about the pet phone lines. If our dog rings up the uk one will it start
- If you are a dog press 1
- If you are a cat press 3
- If you identify as another type of pet press 4
- If you want to speak to an animal welfare officer press 5......?!

Thanks TG I've just gone through the booking procedure once more...the bank and CAMC will probably wonder what's going on but I've cancelled again and rebooked. I originally wanted to pay for one night and this was deducted twice. Just before payment it asks for the name and DOB of anyone included on the booking, so I had to input details for OH (using my laptop.)
Now have to await any refunds due, possibly 5 days.

Some in this Club do furious very easily and very fast - I remember when mops and buckets of dirty water were taken out of the shower blocks - that got members really enraged.
And as for the alterations to the Cirencester approach road - that caused lots of noise and raised blood pressure for weeks. And what about when they changed the name of the Club?
But the sound and fury this time will die down just as all those others did.

Just because you have a credit card does not mean you cannot pay as you go. It is wiser to use a credit card on line for greater protection, I have a dedicated one with a low maximum spend. All you are doing is paying for your purchases in one lump sum at the end of the month in my case using a direct debit.

In a long drawn out process lasting months (possibly years) the club has wasted a huge amount of money and moved backwards. The new booking system is one of the worst website I have seen. Doesnt work properly on mobile devices. Sites don't always show up. Its slow and barely works on a low bandwidth connections that a lot of people will have while touring.
Before you tell me its my equipment, I'm an IT engineer so well used to figuring my way around problems and poorly implemented systems and this ranks amongst the worse Ive seen in recent years. The appalling implementation smacks of inadequate testing and probably off shore development by people who dont really understand or care what is needed.
Ive been a member for 30 years now and to me the club seems to be gradually losing the 'member driven' ethos in favour of 'take it or leave it'.
Terrible !!

On the first point, we don’t have to be consulted because membership is represented by the club council in line with its governance rules.
As for the second point, you’d need to ask the club that one.

Why does the 'Location' return places abroad, not just in Europe but the USA as well. Obviously it wasn't fine tuned to filter out these places and only come up with ones in the UK.
Sorry to keep going on about the 'Location' search field but it really is rubbish, using site name is fine if you know it.
The best method I've found using my laptop is the map but you have to select a Location first for it to come up.
Late Availability isn't that, you have to enter dates to do a search, rather than the club providing a list of sites with Availability over the next few weeks. The old list was much better as you see at a glance who had spaces for say 5 nights in a block, then look for the next 5 nights for another site. So much easier than the new booking system.

You can still pay up at the end of the month, and you get the protection of the credit card company .... I guess then that you draw cash for everything 🤷♂️

Well, well, well.
So, after spending years saying that there were no speculative bookings and refusing to release numbers of late cancellations, the Club has spent 2 years and who knows how much money on developing a booking system that takes deposits……to prevent speculative bookings. And it doesn’t work!
Last week we were on a private site, owned and run by a couple, that did have such a booking system that worked perfectly. It cost us about half as much to stay there as a Club site costs and had facilities at least as good as any Club site. But, being adult only, was far cleaner and quieter.
This week we are on another private site. No booking system (just a phone call), no deposits, no problems. Costs a third of a Club site and we are one of three units sharing about an acre of beautiful, well drained grass surrounded by trees and shrubs.
People using Club sites are, frankly, being had for mugs.
Any comment from the CAMC fan club?

Of course there were problems with the old site.
With any new site it takes time to find the things you want to find, because you are used to the old ways.
All that is to be expected.
A few minor glitches are to be expected.
However, the new site and its launch go way beyond any of that. People are finding issues with pretty much every area of the site.
A new web site should be user friendly and intuitive. This site is not.
Its launch is an IT and PR disaster. The reputational risk is huge. It will take time for the Club to rebuild its credibility amongst a lot of very angry members. I don’t think that such numbers of angry members should be dismissed as having a moan, or not giving the Club a chance.
I just hope the Club cares sufficiently to remedy the situation.

In the old system which is still there as a method to find a site etc I've found it easier to put a named site in the search box at the top right corner of this page, then tap "book" on the site details and you're straight into the booking page. This works if you know the site needed. I did the same previously, you don't need to get there via searches and maps if you know where you are going.
Searches for CLs work still work in the old system too and obviously you don't need a booking page for these.

I feel that the club is being run by accountants not the members. £25 NON REFUNDABLE deposits X 100,000's equals a great deal of income !!
