Yes TTDog, we both had a flu jab, then contracted it and have both been very poorly, would hate to think how bad we could have been without the jab. As you say, the same with Covid doesn’t stop you being very ill.

We haven’t had a cold for years, either of us. But we have had two now in only two months, and a good bit worse than usual cold. We are both flu jabbed as well. Nothing like flu, but uncomfortable enough.

I don’t know why, but I am actually staggered that testing before leaving, and on arrival isn’t as good as it sounds for overseas travellers. It’s like everything else about UK.....a money making racket for someone, and no one to properly police it. You can have as many “rules” as you like. It’s enforcing the rules that makes the difference. And that’s not the job of shop workers.

    “mixed messages”

I can kind of understand it…. on the one hand there are political, social & economic factors that the Government can’t reconcile, let alone manage. And on the other hand there’s an escalating healthcare crisis. In minister’s minds there must be real concerns about social unrest and disobedience. People are utterly fed up and we’ve seen on the near continent what that can lead to. Therefore weakening the link between catching Covid and hospitalisation is the only meaningful game in town. Infection is a secondary consideration. At one time it was all about slowing the panademic to enable the NHS to cope, now it’s very different. Time will tell whether the vaccination strategy eventually puts Covid into remission. Trouble is, mutation seems to be the strongest player in the game at the moment.

There lots of cowboys I fear, some enjoying the lobbying support of MPs using their ‘free time’. As I said in a previous post, Trustpilot reviews are now starting to emerge and I think they’re a fairly reliable way of filtering out the dross. In the early days most of them seemed to struggle with infrastructure, not least websites that didn’t work properly. It was clear that many had no intention of providing a facility to contact a member of staff when things went wrong. My most recent experience was a good one and I’d happily use them again. Like you, I suspect there is nothing much going on to monitor or follow-up test results.

Totally agree AD. And with much of what you say as well SB. But it doesn’t inspire confidence at all sadly.

One of the downsides of having grandchildren is that they are basically petri dishes. Everytime we see them, especially in the winter, we’ll come away with some form of lurgy. Our recent encounter left us each with a cold and persisting cough which is very unfortunate as we’re now shunned by all and feel the need to explain that we’ve tested ourselves (again) that morning and don’t have Covid!

That’s the other strange thing SB. We have no contact with children at all, and for last few months haven’t had close indoor contact with anyone else who does. Just shows how random it can be though picking up any kind of virus. Once one in house gets it, other is doomed of course. OH was well on the mend before I succumbed, and trust me lots of handwashing and sanitising going on. Haven’t dared go see my Mum all week, don’t want to risk her getting it, even a bad cold at 93 takes some getting over.

Our grand daughter has said that just about every job at Tesco has been given a time to completesurprised

She has also said she hates it when she is "supervising "the self checkout tills as that is where the majority of shoppers who try to fiddle the system head for undecided

They are not the only ones to suffer abuse David!  I was talking to a warden at a site last month and he told me that many staff had left due to the amount of abuse they have received, especially this year.

It was never a problem with Tesco until this year to be honest, I can’t recall ever handing back fresh produce (and as a Veggie I am very picky). But it pays to check everything fresh and from deli in terms of dates at the moment. I have had stuff like hummus with use date same as delivery........useless. They get that back. I think it’s a delivery to store issue to be honest. Some stuff is sat too long before there’s a truck to deliver it.

Definitely no angst here around Xmas. I only need fresh veg, and I will go up to our hospital for that. There was a fantastic fresh fruit and veg stall outside on apron last time I was there. Best stuff I have seen in years.

When I go shopping ,as many others seem to do is look for the longest sell by dates to be able to spread  our food dates out   ,where as as our grand dauters says the pickers do not have time to check dates so it could well be a very short window to use the delivery up ,or hopefully can be frozen to extend use by times

Thank you for the reminder - really very helpful!  In their defence they do have to pay expenses from that money.  In common with all members of the volunteer army, as Boris called us, I do get the odd crumb.  During my last six hour shift I got cold, moaned at because the queue wait was about 90 minutes at times and people had to stand outside in the cold and rain.  On the up side I had a free mug of instant coffee and a slightly soft bourbon biscuit. Oh, and five minute to have a pee.

We have been having weekly Tesco deliveries since the start. We don’t tend to bother much with veg as we have a very good fruit and veg shop in the village. However, when we have, or with other fresh products, the dates have generally been good. On many products there is a guaranteed number of days and if it isn’t met you are told and can reject. Substitutes have generally been very good and often financially beneficial.

I think you should make yourself known to one of those doctors. Sounds like a bad bladder problem there LLM.

Had our booster today at an old Chateau above Villfranche all went very smoothly after having to stand outside in pouring rain,  a member of staff called out your name and time and in you went folk in front of us not happy as we were in before them heyho, did not even feel the needle today a very experienced young lady in one door and out a other after a five minute sit down after and handed our new  paper covid pass all done in less than 10 minutes for both of us and so far not feeling off yet.

What are they using for the booster in France RedKite? Are they planning to shorten the gap for the booster? Interesting to hear what's going on elsewhere. smile (Hope you feel ok after the jab!)

We were very surprised that when DIL got Covid a few weeks back, nobody else in the household went down with it.

As a teacher, she and all the family do regular lateral flow tests, and she showed up positive and immediately shut herself away in the bedroom, and went separately from the rest of the family for a PCR test the following day, also positive for her and negative for the others.  I think she was isolating for at least 10 days, with her food left on a tray outside the bedroom door.

Can it simply be put down to people behaving differently due to Covid JK? What seems to have changed? I don't mean for the thread to drift but is Covid making people behave less tolerantly.

Personally I think my behaviour has become more tolerant as I'm just grateful to be out and about after the lockdowns. Then again maybe the people who have met me think differently.laughing

    Thanks RedKite!

Our booster venue was quite interesting too, at Haynes Motor Museum, queueing amongst racing cars. There was a sign outside their cafe on the route out. "You've been vaccinated now get caffeinated!" wink

    Morning

Not sure of the answer to be honest. I guess how we've all been treated as citizens could have something to do with it as well? This year has improved a lot compared to 2020.

The positive thing is that the club as a large employer has recognized the possible need for extra support and measures are in place. That is quite reassuring I can tell you.

Saying that we still meet some lovely people with nothing but holidays on their mind, I hope next season is sunny as it will be my second season at my current site so nothing site wise to learn (except the new booking system!!)

    Good to know JK.

Anyone read the story about the Italian man who turned up for his jab in order to get a Covid pass with a "false arm"? Didn't want the jab so built a mould made of silicone to place over the arm.🤣🤣

Unfortunately for him he got an experienced nurse.👍
