If we needed the additional resources all the time I might agree but we already have the army.

Apart from taking months and millions of pounds to train and equip these additional police, do we furlough them when not required?

I can think of a situation where the British Army was used to as an armed peace keeping force. It didn’t end well, and the consequences reverberate to this day. Rumour still has one PM used disguised Army to quell a different public order incident as well, again, hardly a good idea.

We need more police, actually patrolling, doing the presence on the streets, on the motorways, Etc...... instead we get cameras, PCSO’s (who do their best) and long long waits on anything but 999 calls. Be good if folks could remember this at the next election..........👍

I can imagine that one very big problem will be getting acceptable proof that you have had both jabs, if this becomes a requirement. Thousands of folk all wanting them ASAP so they can travel. The health service IT isn’t exactly joined up at the best of times. As I understand it the government have let several contracts with independent firms to look at how they could be provided. Although they have said there are no plans to roll out such a service at present. If other countries request proof to allow entry, it could end up being a significant hurdle.

It's my contention the additional resources are needed all the time as I don’t think there's a Chief Constable in the country who isn't begging for more manpower in normal times.

It's currently reached the stage of Special Constables being paid in some areas in view of the extra time they need to give to the Force.

Furlough? Yeah, you forgot the 😀

If we have a Spring like we did last year, we want to be ready for grabbing a few days away when we can. It was red hot last year in April/May across here.

Ah!! but i only got caught the once, and as all my immediate family are front line workers i guess it was inevitable, but Sir K is now in it for the 2nd time.

But my current travel plans are all in tact, walk to beach via sports fields, proceed along beach to beach house, put kettle on and make a brew, eat my lunch on the patio in the sunshine, maybe have a siesta, return home via sports fields.laughing Yesterday was gorgeous cooltoday same but i cycled cool

I read somewhere it was the third time🤷🏻‍♂️

I reckon he'd be happy to lead a life away from the crowds as well but somebody has to do the job of attempting to hold the Govt to account.

Don't be silly.😂 The British weather is never that consistent or reliable. It'll be snowing in April, just mark my words.

I'm beginning to realise that a trip abroad is going to be out of the question for us this year and am becoming less hopeful of getting away before June.

The three of us will all be having second vaccinations at spread out dates so any caravanning will probably be short term stuff.

Agreed! We have decided today that,  given the uncertainty looking ahead (dates for vaccinations, quarantine on return, does France want us? wink) it probably best to assume that our planned river cruise in May is unlikely to happen. So we've cancelled and rearranged it for the corresponding week next year. (Must praise the service from Riviera Travel - they got back to us within an hour confirming all the new arrangements. 👍)

So maybe I should start a "2022 Travel Plans" thread?  laughing

Don't really want to like your post Moulesy but sadly I agree, when you think of the EU and just about every country struggling at the moment it just doesn't add up to easy travelling.

I wouldn't bet on it given the way it's going at the moment.

So can I. My dad was a copper in Portsmouth in the fifties and sixties and was most grateful for the NP assistance of a Saturday night.

Consistent no, think about the T shirt February we had two years ago😉 Last April/ May here was fabulous, low 30s for weeks on end.

Spoilsport😉 We are looking forward to majoring on wild swimming this year, outside of Summer will need our shorty wetsuits, but determined to go for it. Hopefully sea will be warm enough in September down in Cornwall to do without. We did North Sea last September🥶🤣

If we don't manage to get away abroad this year, the one thing I will really miss is swimming in warm clear blue seas with the amazing tropical fish, swimming in murky British seas is never the same.

Never mind, we can look forward to using our latest Christmas present - an inflatable SUP laughing

If it’s your first time PB’ing it’s fun learning in the sea, I wish I followed advice of learning in a lake. The learning is a balance thing, the SUP is the easy bit. If you do SUP-ignore the previous bit😊👍🏻

Have you never been to Cornwall, seen crystal clear waters down there? 😁 We have seen basking sharks and seals not far away from some of our swims. Rivers are good as well, we used to canoe River Fowey, a real wildlife treat.

Does your SUP have a rigid top, just wondering how you stand up on an inflatable one? 🤔 We sold our Canadian canoe, really need to get an inflatable one.....

No matter how clear you think Cornwall is just wait until you get to places like the Red Sea or the Caribbean it will simply blow your mind.

It is a high pressure inflatable, it's not an airbed! laughing

Yes, I SUP'd in the Caribbean, as you say it is easy when it's calm but much trickier in the swell.

I’ve never taken mine overseas I just hire one, I’m not that precious😊. SUPs are great fun & very relaxing but they don’t come near a canoe or Kayak👍🏻

Aye, have to admit it’s a darn sight easier to just walk straight out, rather than the “ooo......eee” that goes with British waters😁

OHs father was a RMP, as far as operating in the UK is concerned then they can only do so when it involves a member of the armed forces.

We lived in Plymouth for a few years and yes the SP did patrol the night spots, they could only arrest those in the military or defend them if they were being attacked. Its the same if a crime has taken place in the UK the MPs will work in conjunction with the Police force but do not have the power of arrest. They can only do that if the crime had taken place on  Military property then if serious becomes a court martial matter.

Late May & June in Belgium & Netherlands was planned for 2020 and re-scheduled for 2021. At 59 & 60 we will not have had vaccinations by then and I doubt the places we want to see will be open, so it's on hold again.

I'm guessing with some restrictions lifted we will get to visit a few CL's.

I'm still holding out hope for late August & Sept in France. This is s sit under the tree at side of river reading books type holiday, hopefully catching up with old friends at a favourite site.
