Cold water swimming is becoming quite popular in my part of the world. Quite a few clubs have sprung up at various beaches. Those who do it regularly swear to the health benefits, particularly those suffering with mental health in lockdown. My son is an avid surfer/kite surfer and will happily spend hours in the water in mid winter (in Scotland), albeit with a good wetsuit - he certainly didn’t get that gene from me!

I remember surfing down at Newquay one Whitsun and I was so cold I couldn't undo my wetsuit to get out of it.

What a load of neshies!😂 We used shorty wetsuits for first time ever last September, and that only because my OH is under strict medical orders of no cold water immersion. And it was the North Sea, not the Gulf Stream🥶
You get in fast, you keep moving and once you start to shiver you get out quick and warm up. Bracing😂

Tend to agree, it was certainly at least that at the leisure club we used to frequent, prior to covid. However, when we spent a few days just north of Biarritz in September 2019, the Atlantic at 21C wasn’t bad on a lovely sunny day. That’s about my limit these days.😀

There's rain .... and then there's rain! When we were on one of the river safaris in Costa Rica the boatman had to make a dash for shelter when the most torrential downpour I've ever seen descended on us. But it was very warm rain!

When we were last in the canaries it was over 30C but there still a heated pool. Loved it.

The Solent was 5 degs this morning, regulars were in, no wet suits, but am not advocating people should try this, it can be extremely dangerous if you are not experienced in wild swimming, when i did the New Years day charity swim some 5 years ago 3 people had to be rescued, as their bodies just ceased up on entry. You have to be a bit of a masochist to do this, buy every year 100's enter the water, but officially you have to swim to the offshore bouy to qualify, but many dont.

Sadly, too late for a huge number. I read somewhere that 21 million people went through Heathrow alone during pandemic months. One airport. Admittedly some of those folks will have been going on elsewhere, but it’s a shocking number in terms of controlling movement.

When some try to "advise" that what has happened could have been handled better ,many it seems overlook how small this main island is and how many are crammed into it, even more so in some of the Towns and Cities ,,also how many points of entry we have, compared to other places,

Interesting article in the Guardian which publishes a forecast by the data analytics company Airfinity on Herd Immunity. They take into account the likely vaccine supply situation for various parts of the world. Working on the basis of a 75% vaccination rate which should achieve herd immunity it suggests that the UK will reach that point by 14th July but Europe won't get there until 21st October 2021. ( Also Japan will get there about the same time as Europe so how that impacts on the Olympics we don't know?) That is just a snapshot at the current time so I imagine it could change but just from a practical point of view unlikely to be earlier? Might this mean for anyone thinking of a European holidays this year there will still be restrictions well into the autumn?

Not sure we are going to be overly popular in some parts of Europe in the short term, not only are we, supposedly taking all their vaccine requirements, I read in the Olive press today that there are now large outbreaks of the so called Kent variant of Covid in the Murcia region that they are not too happy with and blaming Brits going for Xmas hols for the Spread, they also have it in the Canaries, Oh, and France. Spain are saying it will possibly be March before they feel the full impact of the Kent variant .
Trouble in Ireland also with people returning from holidays in the Canaries, it was reported 1 guy travelled home although he knew he was covid positive. dont think he will have been the first

Won't that already count as abroad to Mistress Caviar?

I’m not sure whether Israel is big on camping, but I’ll be the only safe place to visit this summer. Currently all EU states with the exception of Germany are well back in the vaccination running order with little chance of securing sufficient supplies in the short-term.
