2021 Travel Plans

I've just been hearing about the slow progress of vaccinations in France, BILs family are over there. One very aged cousin in Brittany (90+) has just been vaccinated, half an hour pre-vac interview and check over with local doctor followed by over an hours drive to vaccination centre, reams of paperwork! The french bureaucratic system is not going to speed up just yet to match uk travel plans...

Spain are pretty much the same and it is going to get worse because the Oxford company are going to reduce the EU order for vaccines by 60 pct and as yet it has not been approved, but what i think is more worrying is the pct of population who are refusing to have the vaccination, 59 pct in France and i think 52 pct in Spain. The Spanish authorities have been taking to court people in care homes who have been refusing to have the vaccine and getting a court order forcing them to have it

"A bit like buying a new caravan and using it for 3 weeks rather than three months."
glad mine is a 2008 model and has probably depreciated as low as it is going to go, but it is still a cost, e.g. insurance, servicing and right now it needs 2 new tyres, which i will get once we have a clearer picture as to when we will be able to travel.

If you take the trouble to read my post again you may realise that I was talking about a comparison between Polmanter, in Cornwall, and sites overseas and not with club sites.
I made the comparison as I consider my options for 2021-as the song says "should I stay or should I go".

"having seen the club's prices.... I decided to do a comparison" was the bit I picked up A&J but it doesn't matter. I possibly could get a very cheap holiday in France staying on "free" aires but the fact is I'm not going and it looks much the same for others at the moment.

Hi Steve, I try not to tell people what to do but rather make suggestions and say what I do.
For my comparison, done for no reason other than trying to give an informed reply on another forum, I looked at two options-a site I have stayed at many times, Polmanter, versus going over there and using ACSI sites at the top price band.
I would travel from Plymouth, its only 32 miles away, and be away for app 4 weeks.
Some sites are fantastic value with ACSI, but that's not the reason we choose them, and, for example, our favourite Italian site is between €38-42 at the time we are on holiday.
One of our intended sites is €36 a night, we will pay €20 but except for our fave site on Garda, we have spent more time at Polmanter than any other so feel, for me, its a reasonable comparison.
Oh, and if you will choose the most expensive BF crossing what do you expect?!!!

Hi Brue, You said that I picked an expensive site and then mention getting a cheap holiday by staying on aires??
As you say, at the moment none of us are going, but if I had to stay on aires to get a 'cheap holiday' that would be that and Polmanter would be getting my business!

I'm not suggesting I'd be staying on aires either just saying that's one way to get a cheap holiday in France. Although we have friends that do just that and they like doing it.
We had hoped to rent a cottage in France last year but that went on the back burner.
Back home. Having lived in West Penwith I'd probably give St Ives a swerve, especially this year if the " camping cork goes pop out of the bottle."

"Back home. Having lived in West Penwith I'd probably give St Ives a swerve, especially this year if the " camping cork goes pop out of the bottle." wink"
And especially if you intend to holiday in June, as we are hoping to!!

I agree I’ve always been of the win some lose track mindset when it comes to travel in 2021🤷🏻♂️

There's an intriguing (?) dilemma on the horizon for anyone planning to travel overseas by any means in the near future - if, as is reported, the government is insisting on compulsory hotel quarantine on return to the UK (paid for by holiday makers), strictly enforced by security teams, how many would still be willing to go?
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-britain-travel-idUSKBN29S09U
I pose the question as it would definitely be a deal breaker for us - all this time in the same house has been, shall we say, trying - the thought of 10 days cooped up in a hotel room doesn't bear thinking about!

hi, Will that be the same security teams that enforce the wearing of face coverings?
The BBC, in mentioning the current controls said;
While those travelling into the UK are asked to abide by the 10-day isolation and told they can be subject to checks, London mayor Sadiq Khan is among those who have called for the UK to adopt the use of enforced quarantine in hotel rooms.
So it may be its Khan who is thinks this a good idea, so good luck with that one then as I get the impression that if Khan likes it then its unlikely to go down well with HMG.
The same report said that passengers arriving at Heathrow last week were complaining of 'poor social distancing'.
That will be them then.

It did occur to me that it was a backhanded (better not use the word cowardly ) way of discouraging folk from going - anything to avoid the risk of unpopularity due to having to make a tough decisions to ban travel!
BBC reported that there had been some initial discussions with a couple of hotel chains already - make of that what you will!
Regarding present checking arrangements, I did read a report, can't just remember where, that only 3% of entries to the country requiring to quarantine were being checked up on.

The type of thing that I find annoying is the report of 300 people partying in a building under a railway arc (BBC) I reckon there are around 30 police, at least, involved in the operation; possibly for a couple of hours and fines of 1,500 levied. Doesn't even cover police time.

two of my vouchers were about to expire so I used the smallest amount possible from each voucher to go towards Tesco delivery saver. The unused points are given as change, This effectively extends the expiry date of the voucher ( minus the amount you’ve used ).
