Not pondering at all, shelved it , but it is a flex ticket so no rush to change to a future date, probably 2022 laughingcool, and in any case not a lot of money even if we were to not use it, and as we paid some 12 months ago it is water under the bridge now laughing

Quite disconcerting to hear from the Scientists that they reckon this virus or variants of it will be part of our daily life for years to come.

I didn't watch the briefing last night but saw a reference to it this morning.

Dont have the patience to do all that, still got my staycation for a month in Devon booked, we have a couple of family apartments and one cottage in Spain we could use which we have not ruled out completely even to the point of just going solo to Spain and leaving the caravan at home, but no point if you go from one lock down to another, so lets look on the bright side, and hope we have a brilliant summer weather wise in the UK.

As I have said before one of my daughters lives and works in Spain, her school have gone from zero cases of covid among staff before Christmas to 8 as of last week frown, and lots of children have not returned since the Christmas break. It now looks like they will close commencing next week.

actually just checked my ferry booking and it is for the 13th April not March, not that it makes a great deal of difference the chances of having had the second vaccine are still slim laughing

I see that Alicante have 1300 per 100K and Elche are even higher at 1500 per 100K. Doesn't augur well for sitting in the sun with a San Miguel.

I think the majority of the population ,were expecting this situation ,after the two "celebrations?"it was just that those who we are expected to make responsible decisions, were to scared to make the right ones

I think that every European nation well knew the stupidity; but most went ahead anyway and allowed mixing including overnight stays.

I’m convinced it’s wishful thinking for anyone to expect they may get out of the Country at all in 2021🤷🏻‍♂️. The independent experts(outside the Govt sphere) are talking about the dash to open borders as crazy be it train, plane or vehicle. Europe will be the last place to get their herd immunity due to porous borders. We can isolate completely if the will was there but it’s the cost that will stop it happening. I’m mindful of the WHO mantra-‘no one is safe until the whole World is safe’-that will be a long time coming☹️

When looking at the virus spread in this country the mutated strain was first found in Kent (how did it get there?) and has been spreading ever since ,  it seems it has moved on from these Home counties areas, as for the last few days the positives have been on a down ward trend  ,but it seems is now rising in other areas as it moves onundecided

It’s in the name JV mutate/mutation is a natural phenomenon even a virus evolves. There are over 20 mutations/variants around the World. No different to Annual Flu, the jab is changed every year to be a catch all, in years to come this vax will be the same👍🏻

    (how did it get there?).

Perhaps that is where it mutated from one form into its present form.  So far they have detected around 4000 mutations, mostly of little importance.

How did the Brazillian strain get to Brazil JVB? Or the South African one get to South Africa, if you're still trying to blame it on people crossing the channel now is the time to recognize that viruses mutate, full stop.

I see David started this thread in Sepetmber last year, hoping this year. 2021, would bring better news and hopes of travel. It's a time line of changing events.

Last year our eldest daughter cancelled her third attempt at a holiday and we suggested she got her money back rather than accepting continual refunds, dates changed etc. I'm glad she did this and I'm wondering if people who've booked EU trips will do the same?

Well said, brue - pointless, and rather spiteful I always think, to point the finger and try to allocate blame in this situation.

Regarding overseas travel in 2021, we have decided that if our river cruise in May is cancelled (which seems very likely) we will ask for a refund this time - we've already had the holiday "forwarded" once and, looking at dates further ahead when we could rearrange it, there seems to be a smaller choice of cabins at a considerably higher price. So time to cut our losses, I think, and maybe then plan for 2022! smile

At the risk of being shot down in flames 😱

I don't think theres any point in making travel plans at present , for here or there, as things are changing and evolving all the time.......

How did the virus get here? borders open free travel us going out and folk coming in...... How does it spread? Folks going about their errands as well as travel in their areas and to other areas.

OH had his vaccine this morning but no date for next one.Top doctors calling for shorter gap between jabs. Even at a good jabbing rate it'll be summer before everyone's had both doses and it's supplies that are holding things up too. Not looking good 🙁.

I am a very upbeat glass half full person, but realistic too. I just hope we can meet our 'local' grandchild soon after it arrives, 72 miles away, early April. No idea when we'll get to see our daughter and family in the flesh in NZ again, but I'm not setting myself up for any more disappointment 😢. But I hope those that have made plans can use them

Edit, I agree Deleted User User its seems to be getting worse not better. If you really want to cheer yourself up look st how long the black death took to go, and return in the early 1900's in Glasgow 😱😱😱

Just to be the optimist I have been working with Camping-Car Park who seem to be busy improving their offerings by suggesting various touring routes using their aires.

I think it’s good to be optimistic, we certainly are. But it’s tempered with a good dose of reality as well, so simply by being ready to drive away when it’s permitted, and more importantly, when what we have planned feels safe enough to go, we shall be out and off.

Reality to me is just that, it will need compromise, it will need effort, and it certainly won’t be anything like we wish we could do, but we recognised early last year the benefits to our mental health in simply not aiming too high, and plummeting to great depths.

It’s three years today since I dropped my (far too young) OH off at hospital for the operation that saved his life. Two more major operations, and a severe heart attack thrown in for good measure, all in  the space of 18 months kind of makes you focus on life differently. There’s massive joy to be had even to be still around at times like this, let alone being able to get away on holiday.

I sincerely hope everyone gets to do what they really want to do this year, but safely and without bad consequences.👍
