I know exactly where you're coming from. Having trodden this path ourselves, almost 2 years since OH's last heart attack, first was 20 years before. NHS spent a lot of time and effort not to mention fantastic high tec equipment, to keep him here last time and I'm very grateful. Certainly teaches you life is for living and ceasing the moment, but also brings home the bitter sting of disappointment in the future which we may not be luck enough to have! Be prepared to take what's on offer when we can go out and enjoy any 'freedom' were given in the coming days and months. This may well mean booking crossings!
I'm defo glass half full but don't over build up our hopes and dreams but grab our chances when we're able rather than have the heartache of broken dreams.
Long may they both thrive thanks to fabulous NHS care and dedication.

I agree and as OH and I are not any younger ,Me a year older next week after my heart ops last year , a couple of other "underlying" problems that may mean a curtailment of touring in the future ,and OH who now has a problem that needs help in the shape of a buggy/scooter for any longer than a few hundred yards,
It is something to look forward to ,hopefully for this year , as last year was as for most, quite a disaster for getting away ,if it works it will be a real boost for both of us,as many this year i expect ,but we know that there is now not a problem? with pitches booked if the as the DG of the club says the bottle cork is ready to pop ,if things improve
Just got to work out how to get buggy /dog and bits we normally carry in the car to fit in now

Today we received our 2021 ACSI discount card, books and map from Vicarious Books: an investment for the future or a waste of money?
It could be our last 'fling' as our 'van is now 19 years old and we've travelled 170,000 miles. We're both in our mid-seventies and the 'there's always next year' philosophy no longer seems appropriate.
We're set to go where and when we can.

No disaster for us last year, we actually managed four decent breaks, two admittedly before pandemic got hold here, but we still had two more, another five weeks in total during period September/ October. We will do more this year, we held off going away until schools had gone back, but we shall just grab things as they come up this year. We intend doing lots of walking, swimming, cycling, hopefully some garden visiting, some historic places and churches.😁

likewise here TDA. Had some good trips up to November and plenty to keep us happy once we're allowed back out.

yes good post, as you say you, or one, have to keep things in perspective and focus on what you can do and as you say plenty to be happy about and to do in a more local way perhaps.
Better than than talking about what might have been or what one has missed out on.
I know one thing I've missed out on that a lot haven't, and I fully intend to keep missing out on in this dreadful virus and nothing really makes me happier and more enthusiastic to be doing everything I can while I can.

Hi, I suppose it depends on what each of us consider to be a ‘plan’?
One definition is that it’s an ‘intention’ and that suits me- I intend to go abroad this year but who knows if I will make it.
At the moment I have 8 different combinations of channel crossings and route ‘planned’, due to having a bit of time to fill, as well as possible holidays to Sicily, Greece and maybe a cruise.
Nothing is booked so nothing to lose if none happen but would rather be looking ahead in hope than not.

Sorry to read your post EasyT. It does seem to be closer to home this time.
Heard from a friend today her niece has tested positive. Son told me just now one of his oldest friends, babes in arms together, his partner, Russian, lost her father to it in Crimea yesterday sad times 😢.
Son says hospital he and his wife worked in, coming from those still there, theatres converted to cope with Covid patients, they had taken London cases and now north Essex cases rising.
Was heartened to check out goverment map, we've turned blue after being deep purple, now 200-399 from 400-799 🤞. Maybe we will get to enjoy further afield, and I don't mean my back garden!

We still have hope for later this year, a ferry booking that can be moved, a tunnel booking that has a bit of flexibility in it.
If we can get both jabs done by the end of May (should get first end Feb/ March)we will have 4 weeks in which we can go 'over there' before the tunnel ticket expires.
I've yet to see if the tunnel will extend their 12 mth rule, I believe some have managed to get it extended so will look into that nearer the time.
I'm considering booking something in the UK for the Spring, probably Scotland. Looking at the prices this club are coming back with, it probably won't be with them, unless there is nothing else in the area we want to visit.
If all the sites open this year we shouldn't have a problem getting something somewhere, we are members of both clubs and between them that gives us a huge choice. Then there is all those commercial/private sites and the night halts, Forestry commission sites etc. Don't panic Mr Mannering

We did similar last year, managing 137 nights away in the caravan, about half as many as in previous years, both before and between lockdowns. We hope to be able to do somewhere around the same number this year, but could be more difficult to arrange it there are many who usually go abroad looking to tour in the UK this year.

In these desperate times we need something to look forward to so we’ve booked sites in Austria and Croatia for July and August but not the crossings as they are so expensive at the moment. Will probably go for Eurotunnel despite the extra 25 miles each way. However I’m being put off by the valid only for a year from time of purchase which I keep reading. I have Tesco clubcard points which need using by the end of next month so I think I’ll do a price check then, and probably convert them to Eurotunnel points but not make the booking until the picture becomes clearer. But does anyone know how long I’ve got to make the booking once I’ve converted them?

Thanks. We made it over to France last year but were caught out by Boris’ sudden imposition of quarantine and got lumped with 2 weeks quarantine when we got back. I didn’t mind but the teens hated it. Got a week booked in the Lakes at June half term but I’m craving the mountains and space of mainland Europe, & I’ve been missing Croatia since we drove there for the first time 2 years ago.

As I have said we are hoping to get across the water this year but can see your point TG.
A friend wants to meet, they are in Kent, so we had decided that the Centenary site in the New Forest was about halfway, so looked at prices for May-£40 a night!
Then realised it was during the BH period so moved dates and still £32.
On another forum I recently posted in reply to a request for info about two Cornish sites and cautioned that they both are often fully booked up.
Out of curiosity I had a look and one, Polmanter at St Ives, is already full, in July/August, and decided, having seen the clubs prices, to do a comparison for our, hoped for, May/June dates. with a trip abroad.
The site fees would be more than double to stay in the UK and even after the ferry cost still more than £300 cheaper.
If we do get to go the £300 will help to pay for the breakfast we will have to buy now we cant take milk!!

Apologies, but what has the cost of 'running a site' got to do with my post?
So far as I can recall I have not previously posted about cost comparisons, indeed I would have presumed that a trip overseas would almost always cost more, but having looked at the relative costs, felt it worthy of a mention.
