Coronavirus: Stay or go

If this is of any help for folk, in order to travel or not, I've copied this from the government advice published yesterday (20th March 2020):
They are to:
- Avoid contact with someone who is displaying symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19). These symptoms include high temperature and/or new and continuous cough
- Avoid non-essential use of public transport when possible
- Work from home, where possible. Your employer should support you to do this. Please refer to employer guidance for more information
- Avoid large and small gatherings in public spaces, noting that pubs, restaurants, leisure centres and similar venues are currently shut as infections spread easily in closed spaces where people gather together.
- Avoid gatherings with friends and family. Keep in touch using remote technology such as phone, internet, and social media
- Use telephone or online services to contact your GP or other essential services
Everyone should be trying to follow these measures as much as is practicable.
We strongly advise you to follow the above measures as much as you can and to significantly limit your face-to-face interaction with friends and family if possible, particularly if you:
are over 70
have an underlying health condition
are pregnant
This advice is likely to be in place for some weeks.Stay safe everyone.

The story broke yesterday, M, around the same time as our MP was on TV urging people not to undertake non-essential travel to Cornwall and for accommodation owners to shut up shop. He made it very clear that holiday travel is non-essential and underlined Boris' stay at home message. It’s good that someone then saw sense and withdrew the advert.
I make no apology for again stating the relevant points of the message and it’s not aimed at you, M, but is info for everyone.

I have come to the conclusion that the UK now has two schools of thought. Those individuals and companies that have chosen to be proactive and community minded, interpreting and heeding common sense advice from the Government and other agencies desperately trying to cover as many emergency issues as they can, and protect as many people in different ways, as they can. This means that vital resources, vital staffing, vital transportation can be channelled where it is required most.
The other school of thought is to interpret advice and guidance differently, possibly think it might not happen to me, because I am too young/no health conditions/no one is telling me what to do/it’s a hoax/ it’s not going to be as bad as you think/I don’t care what happens to me/I am too important to have to follow advice/etc.... Time and effort, maybe money, will have to be used to ensure at some point that such an interpretation is clarified and the full extent of the danger in made plainly clear. It will take time, it will take staffing, if it takes staffing it needs paying, it is probable it will cost more take up of vital hospital resources.
If you don’t choose to try and be part of the solution, then you are going to be part of the deadly problem. Pray that your choice doesn’t hurt you or your loved ones.

I did state somewhere way back that we were in danger of seeing vigilanti groups in certain areas of the country trying to stop people entering certain areas, or shops refusing to sell to incomers etc.
This is getting close to becoming a reality, there are reports of increased numbers of caravans/Mh's heading for the west country and where locals are pleading with people not to travel into their area for fear of overloading local services which are very limited, especially hospital beds, and this influx of incomers will increase especially now that the schools have been closed, and guess what, when they arrive they will have nothing to do because all the leisure facilities will have closed so you will have kids running around bored, and guess what, they will be spreading the virus more and more.
Although the governments message at 1715 hrs yesterday seemed to be perfectly clear...STAY AT HOME PROTECT THE NHS STAY ALIVE there would appear still to be a lot of mixed messages flying around.
As a result the inevitable will happen sooner rather than later, total lock down, and then we will have incomers complaining that there is no food available, no medical care, and streams of people in their LV's trying to get home , and guess what, even if they didnt take the virus down with them there is an even chance that they will be taking it back with them, unbelievable

Unfortunately in a fast moving situation like this DSBs Govt advice is already out of date.
The 21st March Govt. update reads
Entertainment and hospitality premises to close temporarily and people urged to only travel if absolutely necessary
Everyone to stay at home unless they need to get essential supplies such as food or medicines.
All those able to work from home to do so unless their work is essential.
Only travel if absolutely necessary whilst public transport won't stop this should only be used for essential travel for example for key workers to travel to and from work.

Going away next week for a few days. As an over 70, I am probably safer isolated with my dog in the van, and going for country walks than I would be at home. I live with my daughter who is a teacher, who will still be teaching the children of key workers. Some of these workers are front line NHS staff who are dealing with COVID-19 cases.

I hope it doesn’t happen, but I can see some very nasty confrontations building over a lot of issues, such as the stockpiling, second homers descending into small communities, groups of people not doing what the authorities tell them to do.
As a nation, we enjoy untold freedom across all aspects of our lives, unlike many other countries, so the sight of armed police, possibly a military presence (even in a humanitarian role) is an almost alien concept to most of us. Some situations however demand firm management. Just how firm relies upon everyone doing as required, everyone heeding advice, everyone considering more than just themselves.

This being a Democratic? country ,and as such the person/information that has the most "votes" is normally the one who is listened to,
Then i would by all the information out there adviseing , and then because of some ignoring, , ordering ,, it seems the No Non Essential Travel and Stay At Home vote is is the winner
With no more "information?"needed
Although with as already noted ,those not heeding the winning vote, have now been ordered to

but how do you know that you will not take the virus with you, you could be a carrier but showing no immediate symptoms but now you take the virus into an area that currently does not have the virus, exactly what happened in Spain and look where they are now

Martin, see the post immediately above yours. It spells out the situation clearly.
The message is to stay at home. It’s not just about keeping you safe as you could already be carrying the virus which would aid the spread as you will inevitably meet people and use site facilities, shops etc. Be responsible, follow the guidance.
To reiterate, this is part of the latest Govt guidance as linked by Brue -
"The government has also urged the public to take further steps to protect themselves and the wider population from the coronavirus, including:
Everyone to stay at home unless they need to get essential supplies such as food and medicines. "

sorry to say TW I think we are bashing our heads against a brickwall. Unfortunately there are thousands out there who do not have a clue as to what is happening to our country, all they see now is an improved weather picture for next week, although be it somewhat cold, and this now as just an extension to the Easter break, good luck in your area, we are fairly fortunate and not many sites in the immediate area, but i bet there will be a queue at the ice cream van, and people saying "what is this social seperation thing"

There really is no excuse, Rufs. So called intelligent people are ignorant of the easily accessible news items and even if they are aware, are choosing to ignore the directives in some cases.
I never realised until now just how many selfish people walk among us. It’s a sad time and has shown humanity at its worst. Unfortunately, the decision makers at CAMC fall into this category.
Thanks for the wishes. I suspect any holidaymakers foolish enough to travel here at this time will get a frosty reception.

well in an effort to stay fit, and while we can, i was out on my bike earlier, now i live in Lee on the Solent/Stubbington and i can tell you that there is not a car parking space to be had, and by Titchfield Haven i counted no less that 10 MH's, now these could be from the local area just out for the day who knows, but not much sign of "social seperation" going on. Using my bike i can keep well away from most people , but i was shocked to see so many people out and about, and a lot i guess are just down for the day.

Travelled to Bradford this morning and there were certainly far far fewer cars on the A1/M1/M62 than normally. This was Wetherby services at 10am, no seating inside but all the shops and food outlets open.

No, Martin, you must stay with your daughter because people on this forum tell you to, it is what we are told to do. If you isolate in your van, and do not mix, there is a good chance you will be ok. However, if you stay with your daughter, there is a good chance you will get the virus, and with your age may end up in hospital, draining NHS resources, which is what the government don't want. You will never win with the self righteous on this site. I have done a risk assessment on me and my husband, and we will be safer away from home, with 3 key workers in the family. My husband has just spoken to our Doctor, and told him our plans. He said it was the best thing to do in our case and has given us a letter saying as much.

How nice that your doctor is available on a Saturday and willing to hand out a letter to allow you to contravene the Govt advice.
