Coronavirus: Stay or go

I am very disappointed too with the club's decision to keep sites open, the risk of spreading the infection is too great, especially over Easter when families and older people could mix. How on earth can facilities be kept clean at the level needed? I sincerely hope people will not travel to sites, we should all be responsible including those running the club.

Me, too, Brue. In fact I have now spelled their irresponsibility out to them in two emails but they cannot seem to grasp the fact that they are encouraging the spread of the virus. They think my concern is that I won’t be able to use sites. No, that is not my concern, far from it!
I think you will appreciate that I usually make my views clear and have done the same in my mails.
I've just received Nick Lomas' mail as well. ☹️

Companies across not only the U.K., but over the world are closing their doors, thousands of people are staying and working from home to avoid unnecessary travel, yet still caravanners are almost encouraged by the Clubs inaction to carry on as normal. Just don’t get it🙈🙈

Clubs inaction to act responsible along with members irresponsibility, add the two together and you could get consequences that will inflate rather than flatten the 'spanish hat' example given by the government.
Just what the NHS needs, I think not.

I also think the Club should close the sites to the public. Perhaps they will still have to keep wardens on site to do maintenance and consider that they therefore might as well stay open. A little income is better than nothing.
I certainly won't be rushiing out to use them.

I agree , and think it is PR run, rather than a sensible response, ,to the fast deteriorating situation,
According to a local counciler I was shouting to across the road , he says do not be surprised if London goes the way of several European city's by probably this weekend, with a complete lock down
With only essential workers allowed to move arround

Yes agree the sites will need to be maintained. Other than that no one needs to be there.
Just heard that schools will probably close early.
My nephew's wife is a hospital consultant, both parents are at home due to a sick child. The NHS is under huge pressure, there is absolutely no need to add to it by doing an unnecessary journey where you could transmit or acquire Covid19.

It must be very hard for any business, large or small at the moment. Some are essential, some are very clearly not, but nevertheless the economics will be devastating for those none essentials. After this coming weekend, I suspect that the drop in bookings will commence and possibly by the following weekend, it won’t be viable to keep all Club Sites open anyway.
I think the sites closing at some point is inevitable, but I am interested as a Member what the Club is proposing to do around payment for staff throughout this period. With luck, HQ staff will be able to do some tasks from home, and their salaries will be safe. But I would also like to think that other staff, at the shop front so to speak, will be able to enjoy a degree of protection and commitment from all those £millions in reserve. Other businesses have put valuing their staff to the fore, Greggs for example. I sincerely hope this is part of the Club’s emergency strategy. I am struggling to recall what happened during Foot and Mouth crisis, as we were Members, but possibly only visited one Site per year.

Looking at lots of other non caravanning forums, there is a huge groundswell of opinion to the effect that caravanners should not be travelling around the country. There is a groundswell of negative comments from local communities to the effect that they do not want visiting caravans in their area. We could see this backfire and set us back years in terms of public relations. It will be forced on them sometime soon, so avoid the negative publicity and close the sites now (with a bit of warning of maybe a week)

I have mixed views about this issue - mainly based on risk assessment. We were booked into a small commercial site in May, in Northumberland and a CL in Pembrokeshire in June. I have cancelled both, mainly on the basis, that having travelled all that way to both, we wouldn't be able to go out from the site, once there (because everything will be closed) - even if it were allowed by that time.
On the other hand, we are due to go to an adult only CS, an hour away from home for Easter and are quite happy to stay on site at that time, so avoiding any contact with others. The site is spread over two acres with 5 vans and no more than 5 tents, so we're going to be further away from any neighbours than we are at home. I really can't see any problem with that. Apart from a bit of shopping (which we would have to do if we stayed at home), I can't see any reason why we should have to come into contact with anyone.
However, if we end up with a total ban on any movement by then, there won't be a decision to make.

As the latest figures are showing a rapid increase in the virus, I am concerned that anyone thinks that unnecessary movement to other areas is ok. Today I found out that two people I know have tested positive for the virus, I haven't met up with them recently. One is quite poorly. We will all be hearing this sort of news soon. Keep safe and well and do your best to stop the spread.

"The NHS is under huge pressure, there is absolutely no need to add to it by doing an unnecessary journey where you could transmit or acquire Covid19."
I agree 100% with that brue and I think that is the most powerful argument of all against those who are continuing as if the situation is entirely normal. I've recounted elsewhere our niece's experience of what is happening in hospitals at the moment. As we are no longer touring I have tried to stay out of these threads and, when I do comment, try to remain courteous. But that is becoming increasingly difficult the more I read some contributions!

It’s definitely ramping up. Just had a very good email from Tesco CEO (as an online shopper) They, and no doubt most of the supermarket chains are taking action to try and stop the selfish stupidity of the few, and limiting all items to a maximum of three. Details extra help for the vulnerable, how they will protect staff, clean stores etc..... Common sense is starting to kick in.

What makes you believe that folk are behaving as normal?
You decry others travelling to another area, regardless of any precautions they might take but you yourself have said that you have a couple of cottage breaks booked that you intend to take unless forbidden expressly to travel. You have two homes, having a static, are you desisting from using the static home or have you abandoned main residence?
Do not judge others too harshly - I don't

I nipped into the local CO-OP this morning at 08:30 in an attempt to purchase some Loo rolls, we are nearly down to the local newspaper. Empty shelf, so asked the guy when would be the best time next to call in, at 06:00 tomorrow was the reply. Have to set the clock then

Just get rid of the trolleys and make everyone use a hand basket - that will soon stop the greedy so and so's.

Another bunged up sewer, then. 🙁

The risks of snuffing it here seems to be higher than many other countries. Just been looking at the global figures and compared to countries like Switzerland and Norway the percentage of deaths to cases is quite high in the UK. A sobering thought for those willing to risk contagion.

Er...keep up Alan - now that the advice has changed both those cottage breaks have been rearranged for next year (yes, 2021). And no, we came back from the stactic last week and will not be returning under present circumstances. Is that clear enough? So I'll await your apology.
I have not "decried" anyone, merely stated my opinion. Indeed, until the last couple of days I have kept put of these threads as we're not "touring" any more. I am trying to remain courteous and non judgemental, but I have to say that is becoming increasingly difficult.
